I visited this restaurant last week. The service was wonderful, very attentive. The food, however, was not great. I had the rojo enchilada plate. The red sauce tasted more like tomato sauce than chile sauce. It was very bland and flavorless. I felt the rice and beans were also lacking flavor. A mile off the main drag is Felipe's, which might be the best Mexican food in the city! On Wednesday it's a very busy place as all the tables were full for dinner but it was a short 10 minute wait. There's indoor and heated outdoor seating and complimentary chips and salsa. Our server was friendly and checked on us multiple times throughout the meal. Jamaica Margarita (Reposado Tequila, House Brewed Jamaica, Agave, Lime Juice) - This was solid but not a whoa to me. The jamaica has good flavor but the tequila didn't stand out. It's like Jamaica with a little chaser of tequila. It's good if you love jamaica. I'll probably try a different drink next time. Chiles Gueros - I haven't had a dish like this before. Six fried yellow pepper halves, topped/filled/stuff with sauteed shrimp with a creamy golden orange chipotle sauce that glistened the whole plate. The sauce was not spicy and wasn't too creamy or overwhelming. It was a good match with the shrimp and the yellow peppers which already had some mild heat. Carne en su Jugo - This was a large soupy dish that was packed full of thin sliced beefsteak, chunks of bacon and whole beans in a chile verde type sauce served with your choice of tortillas on the side. The base packs a ton of flavor and is moderately thick, it creeps up on you and fills you up before you know it. If you can finish this all, props to you. It's filling but doable. Pollo a la Pasilla - I could easily eat the same dishes I always eat at Mexican restaurants so I asked my server for a recommendation and she gave me this and I loved it. Three thin sliced grilled chicken breast pieces (about the equivalent of 1.5 full chicken breasts) topped with sliced roasted onions, green peppers, red bell peppers and their to die for light green poblano pepper sauce. It also comes with rice and beans. The poblano sauce is creamy has a very light kick. The sauce is not thick and is subtle but very present. If Mexican restaurants were to do pasta, this would be a perfect sauce. Hell, it is a perfect sauce. A healthy serving size but the dish didn't feel heavy and I was able to finish all of it. We enjoyed our meal and I'll come back again when I'm in the area. It can get a little chilly outside even with the heat lamps in the fall and winter so do bring a light jacket! Service is fast and friendly. Probably the best horchata I have had in a long time. One thing preventing five stars, the indoor dining has most uncomfortable chairs ever. My stomach had felt queasy all morning so I chose a shrimp and mushroom quesadilla. It was marvelous, but huge. That would have been great on another day. My husband had a shredded beef quesadilla. Also great. His iced tea was off though. So, maybe be cautious about that. Maybe go for the horchata. The service was impeccable. It's a group effort. Beware of the scam! My spouse and I went to Felipe's this evening for happy hour. This is the fourth or fifth time I've been there for happy hour. Margaritas are two for one. We each had a margarita and a couple of appetizers. When the bill came, they had charged us for two margaritas. I questioned two different people there and they both told me that it was two for one for each person. Therefore, we could not have the two for one price. This is the first time it has been like that. In my previous visits we were only charged for one. If we had been a husband and wife, and a family, I seriously don't think they would've charged us for two margaritas. It makes me sad to write this review because I have been going to that restaurant for many years. I supported them through Covid and everything. I will not be back. This place is full of funny, flirtatious, welcoming guys. Quick service, helpful waiters, our drinks were good and the asada chile rellenos were delicious. Surprisingly two come in the combination plate, typically everyone serves one. I asked for their spiciest sauce and their creamy habanero sauce did not disappoint. They had a promotion where if you bought any drink made with Teramana tequila you would get a free guacamole courtesy of Dwayne Johnson. I have contacted the City who basically does nothing, and the police (who are right next door, hmmm), to no avail. I've been coming to this restaurant for more than a decade and it's my favorite in Palm Springs. The food is consistently excellent especially the seafood (the fish fillet diabla is incredible if you like spicy). The family that owns the place is from Guadalajara and even the horchata is special and different from the standard Mexican fare. Eating here is my ritual when I visit Palm Springs.
