Fenton's is an amazing place. It's an Oakland institution and they opened number 2 in Vacaville at the Nut Tree. It's a fit! The place is a little bare, but also, considering it is a new building trying to be an old fashioned ice cream parlour, it's ok. It gets the vibe. While we waited for our food, we had a lot of fun watching the soda jerks make sundaes and all the other ice cream concoctions that are ENORMOUS. Then, we watched them get delivered to the table and took bets on if they would be finished--LOL. Our sandwiches were delicious and freshly made. All were enjoyable. We got single scoops of ice cream and chose to do that at their smaller scoop shop. We realized that any ice cream that we ordered at the restaurant was going to be too big for us on this trip. Haven't been here in about 17 years it's still delicious! Hasn't changed no wonder it's been in business since 1894! I always came here as a kids but at the Oakland location. This review is mostly about the service We were seated outside but took forever to get served. The reason given by the waitress was that the hostess never communicates to the wait staff. Ok I can deal with that. No deductions. When we finally ordered, we asked for the ice cream to come out when we are done with our dinner. She said she'll put a hold on it until we were done with the dinner. The food came out in a decent amount of time. No ketchup for our fries or ranch for our onion rings. I asked the server for ketchup and he said he'd be right back. No, he never came back. 1 point deduction. At this time my soda is empty and half my dinner and fries are gone. I'm contemplating getting up and walking in with my empty cup and asking for a refill and for ketchup. But I didn't, because what's rude. I stopped eating to wait for my waitress. 1 point deduction. She comes out and asks if everything is alright. We ask for a soda refill and ketchup. She gets my cup and stops at the next table to take their order. She tucks my cup (straw sticking out and all) inside her armpit and she takes the order of the next table. They have a ton of questions and she spends maybe 5 minutes with them. My poor straw is next to her armpit. 1 point deduction. She finally finishes taking their order and says she'll be right back with my soda and the ketchup. She comes back in 30 seconds. If people are waiting and you have a cup in your hand, please just fulfill that task first. The fries are waiting for the ketchup. No deductions. We finish the rest of the meal pretty quickly. Waiting for ice cream. Sat for a while, never got checked on again, no more soda refills. Water didn't get refilled once. At this point I'm debating going inside and finding her to let her know to bring out the ice cream. But that would be rude so I don't. Kept waiting a while, and she finally came out. 1 point deduction. I can't blame the waitress. I've done these jobs so I know she's trying her best. She was actually very nice and hard working. My husband, sister & I decided to come here for dessert on our way home from Napa and boy we're glad we did! I got a cup with 2 scoops of ice cream $8.15, which is a great price considering it was HUGE!. One scoop of Peppermint Bark & one scoop of Maple Nut. Next time I'll have to try and remember to ask for 1/2 scoops instead. The peppermint bark even had some pieces of chocolate as well as chocolate syrup which ended up being a bit messy. My favorite was the Maple Nut! It had such wonderful flavor and with the crunch of the walnuts. Came here on Wednesday around 6pm with my husband and kids. Surprisingly, it wasn't loud and full of people. We were greeted and seated quickly. Our waiter, Cory, was excellent! He was attentive and friendly. I think he noticed my little one threw the crayons and gave him sprinkles in a bowl with a cover to shake. I thought that was a great idea because it kept him busy until the food came. The food was eh, but I think people really come here for the ice cream. We went to Fenton's for a quick bite and scoop. They're curly fries are really good and we had ordered the Cranberry Turkey sandwich. Server was nice and attentive. We had split the sandwich and it was perfect to share. We had also ordered a side of potato salad with the sandwich. The dessert we had ordered was a scoop of roasted almond ice cream and Wifey had the Raspberry Sorbert. Fentons is an East Bay tradition and we often show the place some love when returning to the Bay Area. However, the owners need to show the place love too as it hasn't been updated in ages and is showing it's age. The shattered glass in the front Ice Cream display case hasn't been replaced in almost a year so few flavors are immediately available, bathrooms are run down and need new fixtures (one stall was shutdown for some time), and decor is too rundown to be current yet not old enough to be classic. But Fentons IS a classic and deserves better - it's past time for this Bay Area tradition to get it's deserved makeover. (Or at least repair the broken stuff) read more

Good to the last scoop! We came here for the first time for my son's 2nd birthday last week and haven't turned back! The portions for the ice cream sundae's are CRAZY! I had the "Cookie Connection" and it is heavenly! We came back yesterday and I had the same thing. They serve food too, but we came for the ice cream. From what I see though... those are big too. Today was a very warm day. My friend and I were down for some ice cream. We were next in line until a random woman comes up to the hostess and inquired about the wait times. The hostess told her the wait times and asked to take her phone number to be put on the waitlist. She went on to tell the woman her wait time would be 10 minutes for her and her plus one. When she got to us, we told her we were there first and were in line. She apologized and told us our wait time would be 15-20 minutes for party of two. That upset us because we we're waiting at least 15 minutes in that lobby and that lady she sat waltz right in to ask her she gave priority to. She told us we more than likely will be seated at the same time. We saw the other lady who cut to ask her a question get seated and we had to wait another 20 minutes. Lies! When she finally called our name she tried to tell my friend she liked his shirt but my friend proceeded to press her on why she did what she did. To which she replied that next time we need to grab her attention first. Remember when your in line at Fentons you better raise your voice at the hostess because you can't simply just be next in line you have to grab her attention! When our server came we asked to speak to the manager. She took our order and I had asked if they had pies. She told me that they had peach or apple pie. I asked if it was heated and she said yes! We came here for an early dinner and ice cream feast on the patio yesterday - got here around 5 pm and there was plenty of outdoor seating. The menu is extensive so be prepared! There were 6 of us and everyone loved what they ordered - top hits were the shrimp po boy and the crab sliders. I had the club sandwich, which was delicious and classic. Super impressed by the entrees since these can be meh at an ice cream place. Everyone changed the chips side for fries - my kids loved the sweet potato fries. The onion rings were also impressive and worth getting. Service was perfect - food arrived quickly and our waiter was helpful and made sure everyone was happy! Now on to the ice cream - we ordered the black and tan for two (note that they made one for sharing in a boat - and it was massive!), a single black and tan and Hot toppers (mounds of vanilla, sliced bananas and hot caramel). All were over the top and incredibly - no one is going hungry here. It's just a happy place. Overall, a really good dining experience and I'm glad that this is here in Vacaville. I've always passed by this place whenever I'm Vacaville and heads they have really good sundaes. I went in only wanting ice cream and the first thing I noticed was the price for 1 scoop of the smallest scoop (petite) was $8.90?! I was taken a back because I could literally get a pint of ice cream from Safeway for $6 and have more ice cream. Regardless of the price, I still decided to give it a go since this place has been on my foodie bucket list. I decided to order the Cookies & Cream and it was definitely pretty good! I ended up ordering a salad with crispy chicken and a vanilla milkshake. The salad was nothing insane but as expected and good. I had my hopes way up for the vanilla milkshake to be the best I've ever had, but it wasn't. I like a thick milkshake and it was more on the runny side, so maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea. They did have MANY dessert options. Scoops, milkshakes, italian sodas, floats, etc. I tried two different flavors of ice cream and it was really good! It's been a HOT minute since I've posted and also a hot minute since I've been to Fenton's Creamery! It was a surprisingly warm day today in Vacaville, so my man and I decided to get something to cool off. I got a single cup with half Dutch chocolate and half coffee cookie dream (it's as amazing as it sounds). They really pack the cup full, it was definitely more than enough! My boyfriend got a chocolate malt, and it was thick, creamy, and super chocolate-y! It did take a while to get through the line when we went to the walk up counter on the left side. The menu is extensive though, and I think the wait and price is definitely worth it. The parking lot is huge, but there isn't much outside seating. Not sure if it would be more worth it to get seated at Fenton's. It's a classic though a super worth it if you've never had it! read more

Visited on 6/27 about 5 for dinner. Food and Ice Cream was very good. Noise level was high probably because they seated us near the kitchen. But, the noise level was worse because one of the employees with a load voice was standing near us at the ice cream bar talking and joking with the scooper for almost the entire time. Don't know what his job was, but he was not doing it. I was disappointed to read my receipt when I got home and read at the bottom that they have a separate "service fee" of 3% for using a credit card. It is not added on the bill presented but by a note that it "may" be added. Who brings cash for a bill + tax + Tip of $70. In addition the only options for tips were 20%, 22% or 25%. read more

Since this review, I have visited this location two more times and each time, it was the same experience. I did not sit down to eat but my family and I wanted to have milkshakes to enjoy the warm weather outside. Both times, I was COMPLETELY ignored by the staff working at the ice cream area. I was appalled that this happened on two separate occasions and waited patiently to be acknowledged. I was not. Instead, the two boys behind the counter walked away and came back to ring up an entirely different family and an Uber Eats driver who arrived after mine. They did not even make eye contact with me and I was very disappointed. I truly enjoy the food and ice cream here, but at this point, I will not be back. read more
