I wanted to come here to see how it compared to the Oakland location. I love Fentons and the owner is a bit sketchy. But, history and memory is hard to overcome and I have some good ones. What I liked was that I could get an ice cream and eat it in the lobby. Probably not ideal for the people who work there, but what I loved about it is that we didn't have to wait in a long line, wrapped out the door to get a scoop. We were able to sit there in the entryway on the couches and enjoy our scoops. And they have flavors, that you can't find elsewhere. Butter brickle, black walnut, rocy road, butterfinger. I could never get that at Cold Stone. It didn't taste as good either. I think that if in the area, I will go and get a scoop. I don't do that in Oakland often, because the ice cream isn't worth the wait. It's not a thing of the quality, their ice cream is of good quality. But, while in line, all I think of is all of the other things that I could be doing instead of scooching forward in line. And the Oakland store has a ton of employees behind the counter. This store had fewer, but I noticed that more people were coming in small groups and the three guys behind the counter kept up. They also filled orders of people who were ordering online, which was also cool. I'm glad this place is still around and look forward to coming back. read more

Who knew that Fenton's was a great brunch spot? We were meeting here for the ice cream, of course, but were so surprised to see they had such an extensive food menu. CarinaM opted for a Crab Louis salad and I chose a Monte Cristo. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food, especially the Louis, which included a huge serving of fresh crab. It was like a magical plate in that no matter how much she ate, it never looked like the salad decreased at all. Besides the fresh crab, it also came with avocado, eggs, olives, lettuce, tomatoes, croutons and cheese. My Monte Cristo was good and came with a side of fresh fruit and yummy jelly! Even though we were stuffed, we still had room for ice cream. I had a petite hot fudge sundae and CarinaM had a chocolate chip cookie topped with a scoop of ice cream. Service was attentive. We got there right after they opened at 11 am on a Sunday. The dining room was not packed yet, but it was after the lunch crowd arrived. We came back later on in the afternoon to get food to go and it was packed! Most parlors focus on their ice cream and the food is jut an after thought. That is not the case at Fenton's. They've literally built a huge shopping area with new restaurants, but same old Fenton's. Pro Tip: if you just want ice cream takeout, they have a separate line to get you what you need. Don't be afraid if the lines you see, check it out. Coffee cookie dough cream Enough said this is what I get EVERY TIME. I mean I try a couple of interesting flavors but I go back to this tasty creation. I've eaten the food like 1 time in the 5 years I lived in this area. When we walked in, there was no host. We waited about ten minutes (being ignored by several staff members) and then decided to grab some menus and find a place to sit. When we were approaching the ice cream counter, we were yelled at by a women to go back and read the sign. After explaining that no one came to help us after we and the other parties were waiting at the sign that said to wait for the host, she said in a very hostile way "You can find your seats then". We then had to wait about fifteen minutes for a server. The server was not very hospitable. He mumbled and we couldn't hear him. Food came fast and was ok but VERY overpriced (even taking into consideration inflation). We then ordered ice cream, and it took a whopping 25 minutes for our ice cream to be made. I am honestly writing this review because of their BBQ sauce. We ordered the chicken tenders, sliders, sirloin steak sandwich and their speciality- ice cream. Chicken tenders - nothing spectacular about them. They were a little overdone, but tbh I love chicken tenders and I am not too picky. But still I can recognize they aren't anything special. Sliders - came with curly fries. The curly fries were much better than the regular fries. Sliders were juicy and the special sauce is delicious. Ice cream flavors - we ended up with Mocha Royale and Coffee Cookie Dream. Coffee Cookie Dream has cookie dough and Oreo bits inside and was my favorite of the 2. Mocha Royale was creamy and good as well, but a little boring for me. Now the main reason why I had to write this review is the BBQ sauce. I am usually a ranch fanatic for my dipping needs, but man oh man this BBQ sauce was addicting-ly amazing. Maybe I am crazy and haven't had great BBQ sauce, but wow I would come back and buy a bottle of this BBQ sauce if I could. Food wasn't OMG THIS IS THE BEAT EVER. Fenton's creamery has the best sundaes! It took us a while to get seated because they were busy but it was worth the wait. We have been here several times but have only eaten a meal here once- I would pass on their food but definitely come up for the ice cream! My go to is the Black and Tan but I switch out the vanilla for Swiss milk chocolate. The ice cream is so creamy and their caramel is so delicious you just want to drink it. The kids ordered the strawberry and strawberry cheesecake. Hubby ordered the junior sundae. They were extremely huge portions so we didn't finish them. Pricing is a little more on the pricey side but definitely a nice treat once in a while! read more

We eat here 3-4x/year. Overall food is okay, ice cream/sundaes are huge, but actual flavor and quality leaves much to be desired. Wait staff is good, we always appreciate their level of service. Exception was our latest visit wheee server told us they have sorbet. I don't believe these are sorbets, they are sherbets that have milk ingredients. So our son who is allergic to milk had some and had to vomit 30 mins later on the side of the road. We told server about allergy and were still served what they advertise as a lemon sorbet, but is something different. Anyway, just letting milk allergy folks know they do not offer any non-dairy/milk free options at this time despite what they say. I've been to this location a couple of times always have been greeted nicely and service has always been great. Surprisingly there was no one in the to-go line today. When we walked up we didn't receive any type of greeting just a dead stare from our server Mya. A dead stare that lasted awkwardly until we started our order. She looked very irked and I thought maybe she was just having a bad day, it happens. However when the Caucasian lady behind me ordered her whole demeanor changed and she was greeting with hi how can I help you? Its sad that in this day in age you're treated differently based on the color of your skin. Came here about a month ago, our party of 4 cost us $250 which is ridiculous for the service & quality of food we received...it was just appetizers, sandwiches & ice cream for goodness sakes! We placed our order. When appetizers came out we HAD to ask for plates. In between the plates, there was a piece of glass, I brought it to an employee's attention (a runner-person who delivers the food to the table) and all she did was meekly apologize like it wasn't a big deal & took her sweet time to replace the plate...we sat next to the area where food is picked up, so it shouldn't have taken that long. One of orders was crab salad sliders. The bread of the (3) sliders was stale...my grilled chicken sandwich was overcooked & came with a bunch of small pieces of ruffle potato chips, like the last of what's at the bottom of a bag, while the other plate came with normal ruffle chips. There was no condiments on my sandwich as well, i again HAD to ask for mayo & mustard . The bathrooms were also unkept...no hand soap, garbage was overflowing to the point where the paper towels were all over the floor. I try to stop by whenever I'm in the area. Between Fenton's specialty sundaes and the build-your-own custom sundaes, you really have endless possibilities of deliciousness... so treat yo'self! I love the old fashioned motif at Fenton's. It has the look and feel of a 50s ice cream parlor - right down to the red seat booths, checkered tiles, and retro diner uniforms that the employees wear. Kids can also get soda jerk hats for funsies. This location always looks busy, but I've never had an issue with getting seated. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the restaurant can accommodate large parties. Customer service is always great. The employees are consistently helpful and friendly. Shout out to Taelor, who was our server today. She was especially very attentive, such as filling up my water without me asking and checking in to see if my boyfriend and I were doing OK. In addition to the ice cream, Fenton's offers savory food like burgers, sandwiches, salads, and fries. Today was the first time I tried items off the regular food menu, and I found that some things were hit and miss. I think I'd rather stick to dessert when I'm at Fenton's. I ordered the French Dip with a side of fries, and my boyfriend had the bacon cheeseburger with a side of curly fries. The meat in my French Dip was super dry, and the au jus couldn't salvage this sandwich for me either. My boyfriend's bacon cheeseburger consisted of bacon, a burger patty, cheddar cheese, and as much fixings you want to include (i.e. lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, ketchup, mustard). I liked that the meat was flavorful and moist even for it being cooked to medium well. I also appreciated how it was simply a solid burger. You don't always have to get a gourmet burger with all the bells and whistles for it to taste good! Both of our fries were great. My regular fries tasted freshly made, and the curly fries were perfectly crispy. The sundae we got today was the Cookie Connection, and it's nothing short of a cookie overload. Definitely a cookie fanatic's dream sundae. The sundae had cookies lined at the bottom, cookies 'n' creme ice cream, cookie dough ice cream, chocolate syrup, marshmallow fluff, and whipped cream. We made the mistake of ordering 3 Caesar salads for ourselves, three of us. Without exaggeration, it is the worst salad we have ever had! The salad was drowned in the dressing and none of us could eat more than a few spoons as the dressing was so overpowering. The curly fries were good and the ice cream was divine. Ice cream! This is Bay Area's version of our Leatherby's in the Valley. I've had ice cream here in the past and I think there was another time I've dined here once long before I've started Yelping. This weekend we came for another visit and did both -- dinner and dessert! When we arrived at the Nut Tree there was a line outside and I was afraid there would be a waitlist for the restaurant... the line was for the ice cream. We were seated immediately at the dining area. The menu was just as I expected, similar to Leatherby's, classic selection of grilled sandwiches, burgers and salads. I ordered the BLT and daughter had the Tuna Melt. My BLT was delicious, a triple-decker sandwich piled with bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo. They didn't skimp on anything and it was loaded with bacon! The portions were big and half a sandwich filled me up. The meal came with potato chips but can upgrade to fries for an additional $1. For dessert we chose Myrtle's Monthly Creation and the Sundae of the Month was "Ode to Melvin" -- toasted almond and Swiss milk chocolate ice cream with Jersey topping and caramel sauce, finished with roasted almonds and cherry on top. It was gigantic and the three of us couldn't finish it. Our server was Rachel, nice and very sweet. This is our favorite ice cream spot in Vacaville and I don't mind coming back again for their BLT! There is patio seating and the front entrance takes you to the ice cream line if not dining in. Fenton's is located in the Nut Tree Plaza off of Interstate 80, the place does get crowded.
