I wasn't going to leave a review because I like Fenton's a lot. I usually go to the Fenton's in Oakland but have been here before. We tried the Crab Salad Sandwich (cannot compare to the crab sandwich at the Giants game at Oracle Park :-)), the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and the French Dip. All were disappointing. Service was friendly and quick; however, two entrees came much faster than the other one. I do have to say, the ice cream is to die for, whatever favor you pick. We choose and made our own sundaes. We always stop at Fenton's in Vacaville after we visit family in Sacramento. It's a nice place with good food. The ice cream is the main attraction. It's FANTASTIC! I was super excited to hear that Fenton's was open for outdoor seating. After a good shopping trip from across the way my party of 12 was hungry. We also celebrated my son's birthday. I was able to call ahead and they were very accommodating. Server was great, the food was good and dessert was amazing. I gave Fenton's a 3 because in the middle of dinner a server dropped ranch on 2 people from my party. Server was apologetic and helped clean us up. Another server quickly got us some napkins. The 3 star is because management NEVER checked up on us after the incident. I had ranch on my hair and my guest that ranch all over her back. If management reads this, please do your table touches, with the amount of dine ins you are allowed at this moment, this shouldn't be an issue. There's this Creamery in the city that I been meaning to go. I can't believe this been around since 1894. The other Fentons Creamery is on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. I went here this evening. This Creamery is enormous. There were a lot of people here for a Friday. Look, I got a booth again. Awesome. There's a lot of people out there that asked about the dessert. What about dessert? Some people out there say I don't do enough dessert. Sorbet and Sherbet might be more healthier than Ice Cream, but everybody wants Ice Cream. The selection was simple. I went with the Jumbo Ice Cream Dish with three generous scoops in three different fabulous flavors. It's bigger than it looks. I appreciate Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream. I love Chocolate and Peanut Butter. I knew some people out there that had a thing for Chocolate and Peanut Butter from Hershey's. Then again it's Kryptonite to some other people out there. Chocolate and Peanut Butter is magnificent together. I wanted that, but I suddenly went with the Cream Caramel Almond this time. I had to get the Pistachio. I probably like the Pistachio more than the Orange Creamsicle. I also know some people out there don't like Cheesecake. I always liked Cheesecake. It's a New York thing. Been coming here for 15 years, every time we head up to Tahoe, we stop by here on our return. Kind of like a treat after a long weekend or a break in the drive. They were busy, but that's no excuse for terrible and negligent service. Every time we had to flag someone down, they told us "I'm not your server". We went to Palo Alto for a medical appointment and since COVID practically shut this town down we headed back to Elk Grove but while we were on the SM bridge the kid's stomach was grumbling loudly so we made a detour when we got to 680 because I remembered our fellow gastronome said this famous eatery was again open for dine in last week. Staffing was understandably limited and so we had to wait a few minutes before being acknowledged even though there were plenty of tables available with the "new" distancing norm. We chose outdoor seating because the day was beautiful and without the droning echoing noise inside. Actually, the wife said it always too cold inside. Once we were seated and ordered our fare, the dishes came out surprisingly quick but I guess it makes since because of the reduced crowd and virtually absent take out other than the small gathering at the ice cream counter. I ordered fish and chips, the normal salad with curly fries for the wife and the kid......a double Swiss shroom burger. My fish and chips were nothing out of the ordinary and the salad/curly fries were the same. The kid really liked the burger and for a growing 16 year old, he couldn't finish it so he ended taking it home as a midnight snack while playing his favorite PS4 2K game with his buddies. I would have only given the food 3 stars but kicked in the fourth just because I was happy that society is showing some normalcy and all the employees were being extra nice and seemed happy to be back working. We were too full to get any ice cream which they're really known for and worth 4 stars by itself! So I guess we kinda wasted our trip. Oh well....there's alway next time. I'm not sure it's even worth the 3 stars but here goes. Walked in on a Saturday for lunch. Group of 5 people. Stood at the door waiting to be seated for well over 5 minutes as the hostess chatted with her friend and we waited for her to finish her conversation. Then we were sat in the back booth. We waited a little while before our server came over to get our drink order. When he finally came back he was carrying drinks for 3 tables and knocked over multiple drinks onto our table and the floor spilling them everywhere. It went into our milkshake and onto one of our party members. The server got pissed slammed his tray down then stomped off throwing a fit. He slammed open the back door to the restaurant and left. Fenton's is a great ice cream shop with old school sundae's, as well as a decent diner food offering. You can grab a sandwich, some fries, a salad, a burger, but let's be real - you came here to eat softball sized scoops of ice cream. The sundae's are phenomenal, but be warned - the junior banana split is anything but, and if you think you can knock out the regular sized post diner meal, you should probably contact the Food Network, because I don't think they ever found a great replacement for Adam Richman on Man Vs. Food. The junior has three softball sized scoops - the regular, more than five! I had a small plate of onion rings / fries as lunch so I could tackle the junior, and even then was struggling. And let's just say I can eat. It is reminiscent of Leatherby's in Sacramento, or the old Farrell's ice cream parlor. Don't come looking for a fancy dining room, and expect lots of kiddos being loud. We used to love this place. It's gone downhill. It is dirty inside. Sat on something gross on one of the booths that ruined my shorts. Ordered the appetizer sampler. All of the items were deep fried too long and dried out. All the cheese in the mozzarella sticks had seeped out during cooking. The chicken strips were the cheap kind. If you know chicken strips you know what I'm talking about. The other food was just mediocre at best. The server was not experienced and took forever to get something when asked. I've been to this location about four or five times now, and each time was absolutely amazing. The service provided by the waiters and waitresses is always so pleasant, and the food comes out in a reasonably fast manner. I'd also like to share that they listen to their guests wants. My husband and I went one time, and we have been craving orange milkshakes. It wasn't on the menu but the team at this location did what they could to recreate our dream milkshake. Family oriented and just a great place to come relax and enjoy some of the worlds best ice cream. The weather was perfect and the staff was even better always smiling an upbeat. Fentons ice cream is made on the premises and you can definitely taste the freshness and the cream in their ice cream. They do not sacrafice quality for quantity. They keep doing it the same way. We have never had to wait no more than 10 minutes for for a table. Kids do not lie when it comes to food and dessert. They tend to speak the truth or in this case the facial expressions of our kids were priceless. I had the Junior Banana Split with the works. Haven't had a chance to revisit this place until this afternoon. An excellent day for ice cream. Place was a bit crowded, but we managed to snug in after a 20 minutes wait. Our server, Katrina was very patient and explains the flavors of their ice pie. Ended up ordering Black and Tan special and create own ice cream. Both ice creams came out very decorative and appetizing. The quality of the ice cream is still as good as I had tasted a few years ago.
