What a find! Niece flew in from LA, I asked her to find a place for afternoon drinks & appetizers in the Heights. Give her 5 stars for finding this great quirky but classy restaurant. Surf and turf, field and tides, steak and fish - which one would you choose? Luckily, Fields and Tides offers both flavors from the land and sea and you can order both (because it's okay to order a burger and a fish sandwich as one meal, right???) Fields and Tides is a cute little restaurant that looked like it once use to be a house. Because of the small space, coming in on a Saturday afternoon for brunch/lunch, our party of two had about a 20 minute wait (since we opted to sit inside). The décor (including the super cool antler light fixture) makes the place feel homey and rustic, almost like a (non-creepy) cozy house in the woods. I ordered the Mexican Scotch Egg - one egg wrapped in chorizo and deep fried. The egg was perfectly cooked, with the yolk solidified but still slightly runny (you know what I mean!) The chorizo wasn't overly salty, as chorizo can be sometimes. Though it was fried, the scotch egg didn't feel greasy at all. Along with the chorizo, what made this dish Mexican was the bed of potatoes, pico, black beans, avocado and queso fresco on the plate. The mixture was light and fresh, with generous amounts of avocado to make this dish filling. The boyfriend got the Sloppy Tides sandwich and it was seriously delicious. Based off of most other table's orders - it seems that the general consensus here is that there is a clear winner between the Sloppy Tides and Sloppy Fields (sorry cows, the fish got yall this time!) Though the food itself was great, the high price tag for what I got ($16) will probably stray me away from coming here again. I would recommend coming here but give caution about the high price tag for what you get. read more

A go to spot in the Heights. First time coming here, it felt quintessential Heights vibe, house conversion to a restaurant. The interior of the main building is pretty interesting, based off of an older one story house. There is an adjacent building for more dining space that I've been in once. There are about 5 parking spots next to the main building and now there's a lot across the street for parking so there's no issue there. There are 3 tables outside for outdoor seating during COVID19. We've been here for lunch meetings quite a few times. The menu is small but good for a quick bite. I actually prefer the apps to the main entrees (chicken sandwich, burgers, fish sandwiches, braised ribs, etc). The oyster and fried Brussels are good for apps and there are a few other choices like octopus and duck meatballs. The food is solid, however it feels like the quality could be a little higher. That's the only reason I won't give it a 5/5, the food and ambiance is pretty spot on, but I never really crave F&T but its always a solid choice. My brunch group, Pretty Girls That Brunch Houston visited in September. This location appears to be 2 small houses that are connected. We had the pleasure of sitting in the private area which is light and airy and it has a full bar. We had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, Jeff who is an absolute sweetheart. He was so kind as to send us 4 different appetizers to try. Everything was DELICIOUS! And our server, I can't remember his name was wonderful. He was so kind as to split our checks for us, which is something that they don't normally do for large parties. I love how hospitable everyone was. Parking was easy, they have small lot or you can park in a lot across the street or on the street. We were so impressed that we're thinking about having our holiday party here. read more

Fries were nice thin cut and crispy- covered in cheese and guajillo beef gravy. The salad was refreshing with house made croutons and the gumbo was ok. For the entree we ordered the redfish and the F&T Burger. The redfish was perfectly grilled. Nice charred-crusted skin. The burger was great. I would have liked if the bun was toasted. Did a girls brunch day here and for the most part, it was nice. I was an hour early, because I was not told they changed the time. LOL But not to worry, sat at the bar and had the BEST mimosa. I ordered what is basically avocado toast. Bread, avocado spread, lump crabmeat with poached eggs. I changed mine to over medium eggs. When I received my food the eggs were cold, so I sent it back. The MICROWAVED it and brought back to me. Well in doing that the eggs turned to over HARD and the bread soggy. LOL Sent it back again and basically ended of canceling the order. We visited on a Friday night with only a 5 minute wait to get a table. I started with a plunge point and we also had a rose. The plunge point reminded me a little of a pineapple express. We also added the double cut pork chop at the recommendation of the server and chose the scallop dinner, which was good but much smaller than the pork chop. While this was no Perry's pork chop, it was still good and a hearty portion. One negative was the rose, it tasted like a pretty cheap wine but it was still priced at $12. Absolute wonderful experience working with Justin and the Field and Tides team on a retirement dinner. We had 30+ attendees and the private room, with its own bar, terrace, and bathroom worked perfectly. Everyone enjoyed the excellent service provided by a dedicated bartender and two high energy waitresses. The vibe was fun, relaxed and happy. Had SUCH a great experience here. It's such a great date night or dinner with the girls. I went with two of my girlfriends and it was such a great experience. Their system is different, they don't have one waiter per table, all the waiters wait on all the tables. This ended up being great because you never felt like you weren't being helped. We had one particular waiter that was absolutely amazing. One of my friend had diet restrictions and they worked with us without making it a big deal and finding something that worked. I am used to the usual long wait for food at this place but this time was longer than usual - almost 30 minutes to get our entree on a weekday albeit Friday lunch. When they brought my soup it was room temperature/barely warm. When I pointed it out and asked for it to be heated through they took it and brought it back with no apology or acknowledgment that they had just served me a stone cold bowl of $15 soup. It would have been nice for someone to say hey sorry - this was a mistake - but they were determined to act like nothing had happened. Entrees were good - fried chicken sandwich was the best thing out of the risotto and crab stack trio we ordered - that is the only reason for the 3 stars. read more

I have been here three times now and am loving it more each time. The team service approach is very cool and the take on low country food is artistic without being over the top. I loved the she crab soup. I should have just ordered two bowls of that and a large straw! Sooo good. It the deviled eggs were also killer. It has that magnolia feel to it where you want to dress up for brunch. Along with brunch, you must get mimosa. I had the crunchy chicken sandwich along with fries which were good. The portion were big and I felt full afterwards. My husband had the sloppy tide which was good too. The fries were thin-cut and seasoned well. We ate a late lunch there Tuesday, October 3, 2023. We started with the fried artichoke. Delicious! My friend ordered the beets in some kind of sauce that she raved about. I had the low country fried chicken piccata with mashed potatoes and green beans. Obviously fresh ingredients. The green beans were cooked perfectly al dente, and the mashed potatoes were scrumptious, but the fried chicken with a lemon butter caper sauce on top was out of this world. Service was outstanding. When in Rome do as the others and that is give a 5 star rating. This new place occupy's the former Zelko's. The build out is a casual chic style that is open and welcoming. The bar area really stands out and is a great area to allow for good conversation with other patrons seated there and the bar staff. Many of the staff personnel are very familiar and friendly faces that previously worked at Liberty Kitchen on San Felipe. Marcello has been great each time I've been there and Chef Travis takes the time to check to see how you like the food. The two times I've come were for brunch and the other time for the dinner have been consistent. One way I gauge from the different restaurants breakfast menu's is I always get the basic American breakfast and you can tell which places seem to take shortcuts on what you get. Well the Field Style Big Breakfast you get your money's worth. 2 links, 2 strips bacon, 2 eggs, good portion of breakfast potato's and 2 slices of Texas toast (I'd prefer wheat). Oh, I almost forgot that the She-crab soup also a very yummy dish that doesn't short change you on crab meat. On my second visit, I went for the oyster roman & kale caesar salad, lightly dressed for me. What really enhanced this dish were those bite sized fried oysters. Dang were those good! I'm also a big raw oysters fan and they're fresh market for the day oysters from Canada Deep Cove. Phenomenal meaty and ocean flavor. Chef also makes his own in-house vinegar and house cocktail sauce, but would you expect anything less. Overall a great new addition to the restaurant scene.
