Had a 7p reservation at 7:30p left without being seated and looked like another 15 or more minutes- there were 4 other groups same. Food and restaurant looks great but management is poor and inexperienced- did not offer a free drink for waiting nor even acted sorry - need to not accept so many reservations and show empathy for making reservations wait - very complacent- do not have same issue at other small neighborhood venues like Nobie and Nancy Hustle- we shall never return and advise others. I really like this new place. It's pretty cozy inside and with a pretty patios. I made my visit on a Friday night and it was super crowded. I was lucky to get a seat by the bar. I had tried two cocktails from the menu, fairway and plunge. The fairway was pretty refreshing and the plunge was pretty sweet as I expected. I ordered fried oysters and Brüssel sprouts, the fish dip and scallop dinner. The Fried oysters was very good and the Brüssel sprouts was very tasty. The fish dip was a lit disappointed-too fishy and salty. We had told them abut this and they took it out from our bill. The scallop was cooked just right. I love it and the risottos was perfectly matched. I would like to come again to try more stuffs from the menu. One of our favorite lunch spot in the heights. Been here and few times and each time the food has been so good. I love their take on comfort food but make it fancy. I recommend the crab tostada, low country fried chicken, and red fish. Absolutely love the atmosphere here it is so nice and quaint. The food is good. However, some dishes could use a little more seasoning as they do come out a little bland. We ordered the pork eggrolls, which were somewhat bland, we ordered the gumbo, which was also somewhat bland. We also ordered the pork chop, which was full of flavor, and one of the best pork chops we've had! And we ordered the redfish. I would not recommend putting redfish on top of beans and rice, and neither had good flavor. If the chef just makes some minor adjustments and add more seasoning to the food, this place would be phenomenal. The drinks were good as well. The atmosphere was nice. We stayed after closing. We weren't rushed off, so we will definitely visit again, but we will have to either bring hot sauce in our purse! Lol or at least have salt and pepper handy. read more

Really an excellent all around restaurant. High quality food and service. I especially like the tuna poke ( a little spicy with homemade tortilla chips) and the East coast oysters. Smaller but tastier than local ones. At my age quantity is not such an attraction. Served with a tasty thin mignonette sauce as well as the traditional ketchup and horseradish sauce. It has nice outdoor seating in several different areas and is dog friendly but we prefer to sit at the bar where everyone is very friendly and helpful. Really good margaritas ( my wife likes hers with mescal) and a nice wine selection. The fried oysters with cream spinach are really good but remember to tell them to put the spinach on the side otherwise it will make the oysters soggy. It's been about 5 years since we visited F&T. Our first experience was good but no wow factor. Last night's visit definitely left us with the "wow" factor. Tried some different things than we normally do. The roasted beet salad was was refreshing and wonderful! Had us looking up how to roast beets. Tried the fried chicken piccata and loved every bite. The scallops and risotto were also delicious. But...the best part was the strawberries and cream. Delicious! Highly recommend and am ready to go back again. My husband and I have been coming here for two years . We started going there when we lived just around the corner and we continued to make the journey even after moving to the memorial city area. I say that to emphasize how this place was one of our beloved restaurants on our regular rotations. However, over the years we have continued to be slightly more disappointed with the menu, one dish in particular. The famous pork chop. What caught our attention with this place when we first started going here was the enormous but absolutely delicious pork chop main dish. Its original recipe was a Dijon mustard sauce and it was without a doubt the best pork we have ever had and one of our favorite dishes of all time. It kept us coming back for sure. Then at some point, they changed the recipe to feature jalapeño and blue cheese. We were disappointed with the change, however tried it. It was also delicious and even ordered it a few times, but it was nothing like the previous recipe. We found ourselves always requesting the old recipe, which 9 times out of 10 they would do for us which we greatly appreciated. That brings us to last night. I was super excited to go back and chose this place to celebrate being pregnant with our first child. We saw that they changed the recipe once again and we decided to try it. Once again we were met with disappointment. The pork itself is cooked perfectly but the sauce and the partially cooked onions on top were not impressive at all. It is very frustrating knowing the potential of this place and just seeing our favorite dish continue to go downhill. I understand that restaurants need to update their menu but there is no reason to change perfection. This review is truly meant to be constructive criticism for the restaurant. Everything else about it we enjoy including the cocktails and the atmosphere. However, we can't see ourselves continuing to go back here as frequently because of this. As loyal customers. I beg you. Hosting friends from Tampa, Dallas and Mexico we had high hopes for this neighborhood restaurant. Goodness where we disappointed. We live a few blocks over and hadn't had the chance to try it and thought now was a better time than any. With the perfect seating outdoor area for the six of us. We went on Easter Sunday with reservations through open table we where sat immediately. It took 20 min to get 2 drinks, 30 min to get water for the table. I must mention it was not busy all out door tables where seated but no wait, which I thought was odd on Easter Sunday around 2PM. At 3pm we still had not received our order... I was watching the staff as we where not the only ones inquiring on the delay. Finally the waitress came by to inform our table items ordered where not available. And said the ticket machine had a back up. The girl was floundering, not one contact point made by the manager. As a 6 top who had ordered multiple appetizers, soups and main entrees. Multiple rounds of cocktails. Oddly enough the entrees came out an hour and a half later then apps ... then the gumbo. Isn't gumbo in a premade vat? Why was this last item presented? We all where in awe of the lack of order and hospitality. It's was very disappointing our guests where trying to keep their smiles on but we knew it was a terrible experience. Thankfully our events later in the evening created a better thought of the neighborhood offerings. We will never be back. read more

First we had called ahead and were just around the corner and they stated that it was a 20 minute wait, then we got there 5 minutes later and it became an hour wait. They told us we could sit outside except it was like 100+ degrees and that just seemed insane they were offering people to sit outside. Next we found available seating by the bar, however the bartender took forever to get our drink and we asked for a wine reccommendation it was met with a roll of the eyes. We ordered the brussel sprouts appetizer but it was very saucy, like overbearing in a type of soy sauce. I ordered the scallops and risotto which was just okay, nothing to rave about, and my boyfriend had the Tuna Loin, which I had a bite and it just tasted bland. It's hard to start to a review for this establishment, being a foodie and long time childhood friend of Chef Lenig. But I won't hold back and openly criticize if need be. This is food people. Last night changed the game. It's generally a 4.5 star restaurant. We've been twice before, but had to go when I saw the 45 day Ribeye on the menu last night. We will get to that. Our dinner started off with a bottle of red for us. It hit the spot. It was on the heavier side, but blended perfect. Then Chef Travis sent out his world famous Fried Oysters. As a hard core fisherman, my whole family likes oysters, I don't. But this was different. I loved these. Best crunch, flavor, and texture. It's not a wonder why others call it "life changing". So from there, the wife and myself are looking at each other saying," we love a wedge salad, but don't need it". I can't quite define the salad, because it was amazing. Baby citrus and tomatoes with what I'd call it a cross between an Italian and a Green Goddess dressing. It wasn't too heavy, it just fit perfectly. My wife's Mahi-mahi was banana wrapped, and cooked perfectly. Absolutely a dish well executed. I'm a fisherman and eat fish I catch not even on ice, so fish is hard to prove to me. But it was well within the "market price". No craziness when we got our tab. Now, to this bad boy dry aged ribeye... You just can not do it any better. Period. Before at the table, I was like "crap, I just overpaid". I was thinking back of 15 years of traveling, and going to the #1 dry aged steak restaurants from Gibson's in Chicago, other cities, etc. This dry aged steak was cooked a perfect medium rare(rare if my wife didn't want half). The biggest thing was, they didn't have to bring it out on a plate 500* steaming with butter plate(and I generally like that). Every cut was amazing. Every dry aged steak from here to Chicago, NYC, LA will have a great taste. This one raises that bar. You'll usually get a strong taste of salt. But not here. Every single bite, no extra salty taste that you get at every steakhouse across America. It just connects. The lobster loaded potato and greens were unreal. I was looking forward to trying this restaurant. I just lived to the the area and have driven past several times. A different take on seafood. We ordered the shrimp & grits, liver, fish dip, and catfish. The food was decent. The shrimp & grits were the best. The three stars are for the food. Took off the two stars due what we witnessed inside the restaurant. Approximately 45 minutes into our meal, there was arguing at the bar. The argument was between the bartender and a younger black gentleman with twists in his hair. They were arguing loudly in front of patrons of the restaurant. I am not sure what the argument was regarding. The black gentleman then walked outside to continue waiting for his tables. As he walked back through the restaurant (looking straight ahead and not making eye contact with the bartender), the bartender came from behind the bar and started shouting: "You gonna say that to me? Let's take it outside!" Let's take it outside right now!" He then followed the gentleman inside of the kitchen. There was another couple inside the restaurant and about three employees that witnessed this incident. I heard one server start laughing. Our server looked uncomfortable as he gave us our check and did not acknowledge the argument. Our server said the bartender's name was Jackson. Jackson completely antagonized the situation and made it escalate when the server walked past him after the initial argument at the bar. It was extremely awkward to witness this incident and definitely was a first for witnessing employees almost come to blows in front of patrons. This was extremely unprofessional and made us feel uncomfortable. It gave us a negative impression of this establishment for our first visit. Seriously lacking professionalism among their servers. Also, the managers never came out to apologize or give a valid explanation. Our server was confused and inattentive. Other patrons experienced similar frustrations as well. What a fantastic introduction by a friend to a restaurant establishment that literally is just down the street from me. I'll start by saying it felt like I was either walking into a place in New York or San Francisco. It was eclectic, it gave off a great hip classy vibe and everyone treated us like we were part of the family. Now on to the food...to say the least I am a foodie and my knowledge around a restaurant is very vast....so I was aware of the service, where I sat, what was on the menu and what was brought to me while sitting at the bar. Now this was on a Tuesday at around 7:30 pm. My friend ordered the porkchop that came butterflied as I was told that it was more than enough to feed 2 people. I was skeptical at first but pleasantly surprised when these plates arrived. As I'm writing this my mouth is salivating and my descriptions want to take me right back there and do it all over again. I was so taken aback that I stupidly started cutting my portion of the chop with my butter knife. Get where I'm going with this ? You had me at the Sous vide cooking technique. It was tender beyond belief. What a beautiful presentation this was. The bartender who took our order split the veggies for us. Green beans for my friend and collards for me. The grits were buttery, silky and smooth like velvet. Will I go back ? You bet I will. It was well priced with great value. This has now become my new fav place to have brunch, dinner and by the way did I say a mezcal frozen margarita. Sitting at the bar was awesome. Eating and drinking and having good conversation with those around was like recharging my battery again after this very strange and unfortunate couple of years.
