Pretty tender, but I didn't feel satisfied for the price point. Our order came out to a little over $200 before tip. We ordered: -2 dino ribs: tender, flavor was ok. -1 lb. brisket: kind of tender, taste was ok. -Jalapeño cheese sausage: ok. -Rendang plate: the meat was not really tender. It's worth the wait! I'd recommend getting here around 11:30-12 on the weekend. We happened to arrive at 12pm and they still had a lot of their beef items left, which usually sell out the fastest! We got the brisket, ribs, fried rice, salad, and 2 drinks. Brisket: 5/5 Tender, flavorful, and delicious with the bbq sauce. Ribs: 3/5 A lot less meat and it's harder to eat. It's the same seasoning so felt repetitive and less rewarding alongside the brisket. Fried rice: 2/5 Maybe this wasn't freshly made when we ordered, but it wasn't hot and lacked flavor. Excellent moist brisket! Definitely worth the hour and a half we waited in line before they opened. We went in late September when they were just named by The New York Times as one of the best restaurants in the country. I don't know how long the wait is now. Probably a lot longer since the accolades from The NY Times and other media outlets. We splurged since we waited so long. Hubby and I shared the Dino Bone (get it if you can afford It.) So moist and flavorful. It was my favorite with brisket slices being the second. We also ordered a sausage and Indonesian fried rice. We spent around $200 for the Dino Bone, 2 lbs of brisket, sausage and the Nasi Goreng. My friend also ordered the Dino Bone and loved it. We ordered so much food, we definitely took home a lot of leftovers to enjoy the next few days. The staff were very nice. The chef himself actually came by before they opened and handed some samples for us to taste. Yum! They also post how many pounds of meat they have available for the day. We were able to eat our brisket next door at Alameda Brewing, where we got some beer samplers to go with our barbecue. Nice comfortable seating. Overall: one of the best Texas BBQ spots in the bay area. Worth a try if you like BBQ. But be prepared to wait 1-2 hours. The line starts to form before 10am, and opens at 12pm. So even if you show up early, you'll be waiting the same amount of time in line as if you showed up at 12pm. The line starts to die down dramatically after 130pm. Came here on a Sunday, and was super surprised to see a long line. Honestly I had no idea what I was getting myself into (my friend just suggested to come here for lunch). I didn't know it was so popular/famous! I arrived around 11:45, and I think we finally got to the front of the line around 1:30. Estimate was 1hr but waited 1hr 45 min til got to cashier, sooo hungry...the slowness is partially due to people taking like 5 minutes each to decide what they want, and there's only one carving station. Would recommend to have carving station first then the cashier so you pay whatever the weight is instead of trying to cut to the amount paid (like how the BBQ joints in TX!) Been wanting to go to this place but that line man, couldn't decide if worth it or not. Finally, on staurday morning before the Super Bowl, my bf and I finally decided we will wait in line and get some bbq for Super Bowl. Luckily, when we were on our way, I called my sister and she's actually in line already and offered to place an order for us. We still headed to that direction and when we got there, my sister was 3rd in line Anywho when it was our turn, we ordered 2 Dino rib bones, nasi goreng, coleslaw, 1lb brisket and rendang goreng and our total came out to be $177 we got everything to go and ate next door at the brewery Honestly the food is ok - the brisket was a bit dry, the rendang plate was almost too cold to enjoy, the coleslaw was alright, the nasi goreng was really good but also cold. Tbh the star of the meal was the Dino ribs. The meat was tender, flavorful and w the bbq sauce it was perfect! The staff was friendly which helped given the pace of the line. Holy crackadoo! I don't have to go to Texas for my BBQ grub fix! This meat is good and it's in Alameda!! I wish it was closer to where I live or open a store near us in the future but still, this is close enough! I have to say it's like Black's in Texas!! There is maybe bar seat for four inside but mostly all outdoor tables to eat after ordering. No private parking. All street parking. By the time we ordered, they only had brisket and sausage left. They were out of Dino rib and chicken since early morning they said. No matter, we ordered a pound and a half of brisket and two jalapenos cheddar sausage. I was actually perfect for us. The sausage and brisket were moist and juicy, and very flavorful. No sauces needed and that's...how you know it's good!! They come with pickled onions, spicy bbq sauce and the other sauce is like a sweet honey sauce. We ordered their Rujak slaw and that was so good and refreshing! My favorite and a must try. I want to learn to make that!! We didn't get to finish the brisket and took it home. They must work with the two stores in between each other as we got to sit and eat our food at the Alameda Brewery as long as we ordered their drinks. Not a bad set up. We will definitely come back here but early to try their Dino ribs, beef ribs, chicken and Nasi Goreng. I am sure it's good if they were of it so early. Heard there would be a line before opening. We came at 11:10 and although the line wasn't too long, we were surprised that there was a line 50 minutes before opening. They came by to let us sample the burnt ends from brisket! Yum! There isn't too much seating, a pretty small place. You order and then they prep the food for you right there. There is a brewery in the same plaza and if you buy drinks you can eat there. The food was delicious. We personally loved the dino ribs (soooooo tender and the seasoning was perfect). Lovers of Texas BBQ rejoice! There's finally a comparable option in the Bay Area. The meat isn't cheap (25-35/lb), but I was happy with the results. Everything is charred nicely, flavorful and juicy. Personally, I would recommend getting the Dino rib and jalapeño cheese sausage over all else. The Dino rib was immensely juicy and the sausage was so flavorful. You have to get the cole slaw as a refreshing cut through all the fats and oils of the meats and the fried rice as a savory cut. This was a nice Indonesian twist to the meal and I could eat this on its own! The Indonesian sodas were mixed fresh like an Italian and I wish I told them less sweet as it was a bit much for me. The wait is no joke. We got there at 11:30, 30 minutes before opening, and still had to wait a hour to order our food. People are serious about this spot! I think it's a must try if you're in the area, but it's hard to justify 1 hr+ waits to someone who has to commute. The star of the show is the smoked brisket. We got a half pound thinking that'll be enough but after the first bite, we knew we should've gotten more. The cashier was so nice and answered all of our questions about what the different menu items were. Finding seating was a little confusing but only because it was our first time there and didn't know what to do. I've had this place bookmarked for 3 months and finally got the chance to go. After reading reviews, I went early and started lining up at 11:40am and there was already ~20 parties ahead of us. Once they opened, someone came out with brisket samples. It took about an hour til we were ordering. I've never had Texas BBQ so I can't compare but the meats were so good!! The brisket was fatty, smoky, and well seasoned. The beef back ribs were a little smokier also delicious. The bbq sauce and pickled onions made for the perfect bite, along with the sides. The nasi goreng was a pretty standard fried rice that paired with the meat but I wouldn't get it again. The slaw is refreshing and was very peanutty but I wish it was a little more acidic. The rendang plate was a miss for me. The brisket was very dry and it was too smoky for my liking for a curry. I LOVED the kale curry side in the plate though. I don't like kale but I would eat it all the time if it was always cooked like this lol. I suggest getting the belado plate to try a different meat. 4.5 stars Came on a new years sunday. No one was in line at 1030am so we went walking around and came back at 1130am with a decent line (30 mins before opening at noon). We were at the 6th window of Monkey King at the Brewery before it opened. It took 1 hr and 40 mins before we got our food at around 1:10pm. Ordering was extremely slow as most people are inexperienced with knowing how much meat to get per person and they only had one cutting station/pay station. Tip: Order around 3/4 lb of meat per person. This is my standard for ordering anything anywhere, not just bbq places. As a recommendation for the restaurant, Texas bbq places have you get the meat from the cutting station and the weight is measured and written on the meat paper so that it can be ringed up fairly fast. You can then have 2 meat stations and 1 pay station and things will move faster. For family of 4 i was just gonna get 2 lbs of brisket and 1 dino beef rib but it took so long I decided to spend $300 on the following. 3 lbs fatty beef brisket 5/5 fatty, nice crust. not too peppery. $35/lb ~4lbs 2x dino beef ribs 5/5 much fattier than the brisket. I love beef ribs. $35/lb but half the weight is bone 1x nasigoreng 4/5 Indonesian fried rice that was interesting and definitely a must try if you havent been exposed to that kind of food 1x rujak slaw 4/5 Interesting pineapple slaw. I also recommend getting this as a side. You can eat outside in the patio or in the Alameda brewery next door. Theyre only open Sat and Sun noon until they run out of food. This is normal for smoked bbq as there is limited 8hr+ smoke time for food capacity. I hope they can increase their smoking capacity and serve it a little faster. At around 1:30-2pm they were already running out of brisket. You basically cannot arrive later than opening time otherwise you will be disappointed with the food options. Street parking only. Worth the hype, worth the wait in line! We lined up on a Sunday at 11am and were first in line! The line grew to be very long by the time they opened. A few minutes before opening, they handed out sample pieces of brisket and they were incredibly moist and heavenly. We knew we had to get more. We ordered smoked brisket (5/5), a Dino Beef Rib (4.5/5), and a cheese sausage (4/5). For sides, we got the Nasi Goreng fried rice (5/5), which went perfectly with the bbq meat and was a very unique pairing. We also got the Rujak Slaw (4/5), which was good. I got the Cendol (4.5/5) dessert drink, which I liked a lot! The sweet tea come in small drink boxes, so I'll probably skip that next time. Would prefer freshly made sweet tea. Most of the seating is outside, but we were able to get indoor seats for being first in line. I am not a bbq person. I'm also not someone who enjoys waiting in long lines. But going to fikscue BEFORE it opened and waiting an hour or so to feast on amazingly smoked meats (brisket's good but don't skip the chicken) was totally worth it. The pineapple slaw was also a favorite. And the bbq sauce is mmmm. Maybe it's not always like this but people in line were also real nice--everyone was excited to be there, lots of people proud to come out and support their community. Fikscue folk also come out and handout samples to those waiting in line, which is a nice touch. Service is always great, but keep in mind there isn't table service. There's very limited (like 6 seats?) seating inside and a small courtyard outside with a few tables. We really enjoyed our meal at Fikscue. The people were friendly, and we appreciated the fact that the staff would come out to talk to the customers in line and offer tastes of the food along with drink orders. The food itself was excellent -- standouts were the brisket, which was succulent and smoky, as well as the jalapeno and cheese hot dog, which was juicy and had just the right amount of spice. We've had a lot of barbecue over the years -- Fikscue is good, but not the best we've had, and honestly not really worth the hour wait. We would go back if the line was shorter. read more

One of the best new restaurants in the Bay that I have tried this year. I've waited many hours in many lines for BBQ joints in Texas and Cali and this one takes the cake for me. Fikscue is the ultimate culmination of Bay Area - fusing American BBQ with an Indonesian twist. How could you not love this? I tend to get tired of American BBQ after a few bites.. while it's delicious and Smokey, it can be a bit tiring and repetitive after a while. Adding the Asian zing to it changes the game. I loved that the flavors here were all so familiar and unique at the same time? I love Indonesian food as well and it was done perfectly here. It's one of those places that you'd take your Asian parents to because everyone will have something they love! Dino beef rib (4.5/5) - so tender. So fatty. Perfectly seasoned. Normally I prefer brisket but we had to try this first. Smoked fried chicken (5/5) - this WON my heart! Smoke chicken, if not done well, can be so dry and boring but this was the best smoked chicken I've ever had. Skin was crispy, meat was still juicy, and flavors were on point. Put some of their bbq sauce and sambal on it and you've got a winner! Sausage (4.5/5) - oh my my my, the flavors in this thing was absolute perfection. I only got one but I needed at least 5 more. There was a great snap, cheesiness, and spice. It was a bit chewy so I would have preferred a more juicy inside. Beef rendang (4/5) - again the FLAVORS. Savory and sweet. Since they used smoked brisket, it was very different than other places. The kale was the perfect creamy side. Unfortunately I think the beef was a bit tough due to being smoked and put in the sauce but tasted amazing. Nasi Goreng (5/5) - the ultimate side dish to BBQ. This is what truly made the experience the ultimate Asian American BBQ and infused all of their flavors together perfectly. The staff were hard working and very friendly. It seems like a family business. While I understand that they probably don't want to overcook the meats while they're sitting, the food did come out very lukewarm and felt like it needed a quick nuking in the microwave or air fryer. read more
