Dino rib, cheddar jalapeño sausage, rujak slaw, nasi goreng
    Christine B.

Really enjoyed the bbq here! Dino rib was meaty, super tender, and fell off the bone. Cheddar jalapeno sausage had good flavor and good heat however did not have that snap I was looking for. Rujak slaw was refreshing, had a lot of different textures, but fell on the sweet side (I could've used a bit more acidity). Nasi goreng was a good rice side that complemented the bbq. Staff were extremely nice and even give you brisket samples while you're waiting in line. Would definitely come back to try their other plates.

Lines deter me. So I basically forgot this place existed. Today I was gifted a box of meat! My first Fikscue! Magical! I will be back! Everything was flavorful and smoky. I am not a BBQ fanatic, but I have been to Texas a few times. This would hold up to some of the best and I found it less salty. I like how the sauces are on the side so I can control the dip or no dip. A note - it's super rich, use the spicy mustard sauce and pickled veg to balance. Though all of it is tender enough to go sauceless.

Son wanted to try so we are here. The line was long, the selection limited but the taste was good. There were many big orders, likely for parties. A $300 order can fit nicely into a regular paper grocery bag with room to spare, so make sure your wallet is mentally prepared so it does not go into shock. We had a sandwich. A pound of brisket and some baby back. My advice... unless you really want to suck the gravy off the bones or want to bring gift to your canine friend, don't get anything with bones as everything is by weight and I don't know about you, I can't chew on the bones. After close to $80, I had some meat off the rib and a piece of brisket, and craving some instant noodles ... The place is very transactional and noisy. But that is how it should be with a busy place where majority of orders are to-go.

Ambiance - 5/5 Walking in I didn't have much expectation. But as I step foot into the place. I was fascinated but the wall art. The street art vibe with the cartoon style character. Super awesome. The kitchen is wide open. Everything was super clean and well put together. Service - 5/5 Great recommendations from the staff. The house slaw and banana pudding were clearly popular choices, and they definitely knew what they were doing when guiding the order. I told them it's my first time. These were what they recommended me. One of the staff actually gave a piece of brisket to try. Very nice of them to give a free sample before I order so I know what I'm expecting. Food - 4.5/5 Dish Ordered: Dino Rib, Brisket ( 1/2 lb), House Slaw, Banana Pudding 5/5 Dino Rib Wow. This was the highlight. The meat was unbelievably tender--every single part of it. Usually with ribs, especially the upper portions, you get some toughness or dryness depending on how it's smoked. Not here. This one was melt-in-your-mouth soft, juicy throughout, and you could practically pull it apart effortlessly. The seasoning was perfect--balanced, not too salty, not bland, just right. Every bite hit. 4/5 Brisket ( 1/2 lb) About two slices. Visually, it looked great--nice color, juicy, with a solid fatty portion. But after eating the Dino rib, it felt a bit underwhelming. Still good, just didn't hit as hard flavor-wise. Might be better appreciated on its own next time. 5/5 House Slaw This paired extremely well with the meat. Sweet, tangy, and refreshing. The hint of peanuts adds a nice nutty layer that makes it stand out. It cuts through the richness of the meat perfectly. 5/5 Banana Pudding Not your typical pudding--it's more like a banana cake. The sweetness not too overwhelming, smells amazing, and just hits the spot. A great way to finish the meal. Additional Comments The Dino rib alone makes this place worth it. It sets a very high bar, which honestly makes everything else feel secondary. The best Rib I have ever had in my life so far. Important thing to note is that the rib will be weighed. I don't think you can ask to get the portion you want like you can with the brisket. My Dino rib came out to be 1.6lb. The sides and dessert complement the meal really well and round out the experience. Price is bit is definitely in the higher end but the experience is definitely worth it.

Wow the food here is amazing, if you're wondering if you should go, just do it. I'm not even a big bbq person but it's so good I finished every plate. My husband wanted to order food from here to take home for his birthday. We came on a Wednesday a little after 4:30 PM and there were less than 5 people in line. It went quick but we can see how there can be a line on weekends since there's only one person cutting meat in the back. The food is phenomenal though and worth the wait (again coming from someone who doesn't eat a lot of bbq or meat). The sides are my favorite. They are so good. We got every single one :). I loved the brisket and the mustard sauce. And we got the dessert drink which was tasty for someone who has a big sweet tooth. Overall, it's fantastic and next to a brewery. There's a small parking lot near by. Would definitely come again!!!

We cane around 12:30pm on a Saturday and waited in line for about 30 minutes! I wasn't expecting a line, but it was worth the wait! Also tbh......I came for the Indonesian food and not the bbq actually haha. My only complaint is that this place is quite pricey haha. Our bill cane out to $70+ (including tip) for two entrees, a side, and a drink (no bbq). We got soto padang, ayam balado, rujak, and es cendol. Some comments: The soto padang was yummy but a bit too salty. The brisket wasn't anything special imo.....Red sambal was amazing (*tears *). The es cendol was yummy but a tad too sweet and thick. The chicken was very flavorful and tender. Rujak was refreshing! And the plates were all pretty big! Overall: It was all enak sekali and fulfilled my Indo food cravings. I'll be back to try the other classic Indo dishes!

Yah I finally made it here !! Came on a Saturday shortly after 12 noon and when I arrived there was a line already Thankfully no items were sold out so we were able everything we wanted Meat is weighed and that determines the price We got to try the Dino rib, sausage, potato salad, lumpia, chicken and brisket All meats are very tender and well seasoned Meat is good even with out the BBQ Sauce Business is cashless, there is a small outdoor patio available to enjoy your food or you can go to next door to the Alameda Brewery and enjoy your food inside that business and we did!! Glad we got a chance to come here, we will definitely be back Parking is street parking only and there is private parking in the back

My husband and I arrived to the back of the line on a gorgeous Saturday morning at about 11:45 AM. The line was already quite long, even before doors opened at noon. We had a group of friends meeting there at 1 PM to celebrate my husbands birthday. This was everyone's first time trying Fikscue While in line we grabbed some beers and Micheladas at Alameda Brewing. Around this time, a very sweet kind lady (maybe the owner?) came out and thanked the crowd for patiently waiting. I took the opportunity to ask her how long the wait from where we were would be. She estimated around 45 minutes. It turned out to be more around 1.5 hours. But we knew her answer was just an estimate. We ordered everything except drinks on the menu. And a lot of it. The meat was premium, juicy and tender. The smoky flavor really penetrated to the bone. We really enjoy the banana pudding dessert (not pictured). This location is cleverly located in between two breweries which is great because you can grab your food and a beer at either breweries. This bussiness seemed to cultivate community and an overall great spot to gather. The only negative experience our group had was with a couple in line in front of us. We were large group (8 people and 3 kids) and a friend accidently bumped into the couple in front of us twice. We were trying to take a group picture and bumped into the man. This grown man cursed us out calling us "effing idiots" and many other ridiculous names. Look we are all here trying to enjoy a delicious neighborhood mom and pop. Things happen, if you cannot be kind to your neighbor in line, stay home and order delivery. Accidents happen! No one got hurt. Besides that unsavory interaction, this turned out to be a great afternoon for all. We will definitely come back to try the desserts and beef cheeks.

Indonesian Texas style BBQ caught our interest! Definitely a good idea to get here early! Expect to line up like any other BBQ joint. After the line, you order at the counter. Got the food faster than expected. It's right next to a brewery, but there's a shared space with a few tables outside and only a few counter seats inside. We ended up taking it to-go to enjoy at a nearby park. Brisket was great, juicy and tender. Dino rib just fell right off the bone. Burger was tasty but not standout for me, would probably just order more meat next time. All the food we got was perfect for sharing! Street parking with nearby lots. Came on a Saturday and it wasn't bad, but we might have gotten lucky.

This is one of the best and most interesting restaurants we have been to! Whoever thought of Indonesian and Texas barbecue fusion? Well they do an excellent job on both cuisines and blending it together. Everything is nicely paired and delicious too! Hubby had the Dino ribs which were HUGE, meaty and juicy! I had the Rendang (Indonesian), a side of lumpia and a dumpling special. Everything was an explosion of flavors! We were a significantly impressed and will be back. Our friends warned us that the lines can get really long but we went around 2:30 and it was not bad at all. But the problem with going too late is that they run out of some of the more popular foods. There are not a whole lot of tables for the amount of business they do, but they have an agreement with the Alameda brewing company next-door that you can bring your food over there and use their tables, as long as you buy something to drink there.

    Sue L.

My husband heard about Fikscue after watching Check, Please! so of course we stopped by for an early dinner. Apparently they serve Texas style BBQ and Indonesian fusion dishes, which I thought was very unique. We walked through a small courtyard before entering the restaurant. The employees were extremely busy, and although we were ready, it took them a long time before we could place our order at the register. They ran out of Dino Beef Ribs and Beef Back Ribs, so we ordered the smoked brisket, jalapeño cheese sausage, and a side of fries. Not sure if it's because I'm not a huge meat eater, but I only enjoyed the fries since they were crispy. The brisket was very salty and didn't the sausage was crazy good given that it costs $8. The place didn't blow my mind, especially since it's priced by the pound. I would come here if other people wanted to stop by, but I wouldn't if I was by myself.

SO GOOD. Husband and I came on a Saturday morning. The line was long, but we found it to be worth the wait. I recommend getting there early though because there is a good chance you'll miss out on all the best stuff if you don't (they serve til they're sold out and then that's it). We ordered: - Brisket - Dino Beef Rib - Balado Plate w/ Chicken - Rujak Slaw - Potato Salad - Nasi Goreng - Banana Pudding - Soda Gembira - Cendol We loved it all. Highly recommend. Will be back.

I see what all the hype is about... 4.5 **** rounded up to 5 ***** for me. Texas style Halal BBQ in the Bay area with an ethnic twist. Brilliant! I heard about Fiskscue from one of my friends. I've been meaning to try it for a while, I just don't get around to Alameda that often. The hours are also odd; they are open only 3 days, and not even the whole day. The venue itself is tiny, more like a hole in the wall. They have some counter seating inside and there is an area right outside where one can eat. Good news is they are located next to Alameda Brewing, where one can dine in if you grab a beer. Parking can be challenging, so good luck with that. I also overheard the young lassie at the register say Saturdays are crazy and usually much busier than Sundays. The staff were very friendly. #IndonesianBBQ: ~ Jalapeño-Cheese Beef Sausage - 3.5/5 The Sausage was a little too fatty for my liking. I thought the flavor was okay as well, I couldn't really taste the Jalapeño or the cheese. It paired very really well with the Mustard sauce and their BBQ sauce. ~ Beef Cheeks - 4.5/5 The Beef cheeks were on point, almost like burnt ends. They had a nice char on the outside, yet soft and juicy in the middl. Not as tender as the Brisket, but excellent nonetheless. ~ Fried Chicken Leg - 3/5 The chicken itself doesn't have a lot of flavor, but it was very good when dipped in BBQ or Mustard sauce. It's worth trying at least once, but I would not recommend it. You aren't missing out if you skip this. ~ Rendang Plate - 4.5/5 I could definitely taste the Indonesian flavorsat first bite; the coconut milk stood out right away. The potato fritter was very good, along with the Kale curry; flavor galore. This was literally be a meal by itself. ~ Soto Padang - 5/5 This was AMAZING! I'd come back just for this! The soup was absolutely delish! Flavor bomb! Two types of noodles and delicious broth with pieces of brisket. Brilliant!! ~ Nasi Goreng - 3.5/5 Initially I thought the Nasi Goreng was OK. However, the more I ate it, the better it got. The flavors opened up more. But I had better, also there was not enough brisket in the dish. ~ Cendol - 5/5 Be sure to stir and mix this up real good before drinking it. The palm sugar syrup sits at the bottom. Very refreshing and tasty. Overall, a great experience. I'll be back...

Everett and Jones once had a location in Sacramento many years ago and I used to visit often. I loved their barbecue sauce and still buy it in stores when available. I had that in mind when telling my family, 'Let's go!" I was disappointed with the food when we arrived. The first thing I noticed when our food came out was that the barbecue sauce wasn't as thick as I remembered, it was very runny, it's didn't stick to the mean. I also saw a lot of fat on the ribs, but thought maybe the taste would be good, so we prayed and ate. Unfortunately, the ribs were fatty and tough to find good meat. I also tried the brisket, which was a little fatty but VERY good. I ordered mac and cheese and greens as sides, but didn't like either. The mac and cheese had a bit of charred cheese on top (which I love), but I wasn't impressed afterward. My friend's hot link had zero flavor, just texture, which was strange. I was embarrassed because I had bragged about how hot the links were! Sike! Everyone at the table enjoyed the sweet cornbread. We also loved the mango lemonade. The desserts were outstanding: caramel cake, key lime pie, and pecan sweet potato pie. I highly recommend those! I'd visit again but skip the ribs and links. As a family member said, 'Don't eat your leftovers alone--you might need someone to do the Heimlich if you choke on the fat." jkjk

First of all, my order was TO-GO. And let me tell you... when I got home and opened that bag, I was honestly blown away. My food was packaged with so much care, precision, and pride--it was neat, organized, and handled like it actually mattered. That alone told me everything about the level of service in that building. Candalen--YOU DID THAT. The attention to detail on my plate did not go unnoticed. You treated my food like it was being served in-house, and that speaks volumes about your work ethic and pride in what you do. Aaron--listen... that peach lemon drop??? BABY. That was my first time trying one and it was EVERYTHING. Smooth, flavorful, perfectly balanced--you made that drink an experience all by itself. I will be back JUST for that. And let's talk about the vibe--the music, the energy, the atmosphere--it all came together in a way that made the entire visit feel GOOD. Not just food... a whole experience. But what really stands out is this: It has been a LONG time since I've experienced service this genuine, this intentional, and this excellent. Not rushed, not careless--EXCEPTIONAL. Management, if you are reading this--please understand--you have some powerful people on your team. Candalen and Aaron are the kind of employees that elevate a brand. They are the reason people come back. They are the reason I will be telling others. This wasn't just a good experience. This was the kind of experience that turns customers into loyal supporters. Finally, we were so excited to see it was open on a Saturday an we came in for lunch. To order you need to scan the QR code and pay plus tip before a single person spoke to us or offered us service. From the menu we saw they were out of beef ribs, smoked chicken, rib tips, no peach cobbler, no banana pudding and no kool aid. I come for their brisket and my friend loves ribs so we went ahead and ordered combo plates to share. Mine was the brisket with a side of collard greens, she had the pork ribs, a hotlink with a side of Mac-n-cheese, & cornbread. For drinks we had lemonade and an Arnold Palmer. I'm not sure what has happened over the last few months but the quality of the food, the service and the expectation to pay and tip up front were very disappointing. The greens, Mac cheese, brisket and ribs were cold. The hotlink wasn't BBQ'ed it was pan fried. Everything tasted like warmed up leftovers and we will not return. For 2 of us to eat it came to $100 and we were not satisfied. The dining room is an attractive space, it was completely empty. The staff was unclear about what we ordered, had to be told to bring our drinks, bartender is also working as server and apologized for his uncertainty. I suggest this restaurant hire and train more staff if they intend to keep their doors open.

I worked with Alex to coordinate the menu and delivery, and communication was great throughout the planning process. I paid the invoice in full (over $660), but after payment, all communication stopped. On the day of the party, the food never arrived. Multiple calls, texts, and voicemails went unanswered, leaving us scrambling to order pizza for roughly 50 guests at the last minute. A couple of days later, I was finally able to get in touch with Alex. He apologized, issued a full refund, and also offered a gift card to make up for the situation. I appreciated the apology and the refund. Unfortunately, despite following up a couple of times, I never received the gift card and communication stopped again. I understand that mistakes can happen, but following through on commitments matters too. This experience was incredibly disappointing.

It includes a Fried Chicken Thigh, Charred Lemon Pepper Sauce, House Pickles, Pear Slaw & Black Garlic Sauce on soft Brioche bun - very flavorful sandwich. I savored every bite! Hubby got a Black Garlic Fried Chicken Sandwich with Fried Chicken Thigh, Black Garlic Sauce, House Pickles & Pear Slaw on toasted brioche bun. He enjoyed it but it wasn't filling enough for him. So note, if you're 220 lbs or so, or if you have a bigger appetite, you might want to order a second sandwich or get the Fowl Fry Combo instead. Sandwiches run about $17 - totally worth it though. Savor every bite, and you won't be sorry!

Fowl + Fare operates from a small storefront right next to the Shanvi Indian Grocery store on Santa Clara Ave (near Broadway). This place is either takeout or eat outside on picnic tables. I took my food to-go. I had the Citric Hot Chicken Sandwich w/ Seasoned Fries. I liked the Citric Hot Chicken Sandwich. It was spicy, but not numbing hot. The slaw sort of smoothed out the spicy heat. It's made from thigh meat, so it's moist and easy to eat. I didn't like the seasoned fries. They cut the potatoes into thin fries that don't travel well as takeout. Probably okay if you ate them right there, fresh from the kitchen. If I go back, I'm just getting a sandwich.....no fries.

We came on a weekday evening, and it was packed! The sound travels here so that it can get really loud and busy. The inside is super casual with seating for large or smaller groups. The service by the staff was good. Our food came out quickly, and everyone was friendly and checked in on us. We ordered the Tom Kha, Nam Khao, Fried Clear Rice Paper Roll Wraps, Pineapple Khao Pad, and Geng Ka Ree. Everything was fabulous! Lots of great flavors and spices. The portion sizes were spot on. My favorite was the Nam Khao and the Fried Clear Rice Paper Roll Wraps. I love the bite-sized and sharing family-style. My companion and family also enjoyed it. If you like Laotian food, Bhan Mae Vane is a must-try in the East Bay! Find them off Webster Street with street and neighborhood parking. I look forward to going back!

Really enjoyed my eggplant calamari and my coworker liked their garlic noodles. FYI: Thai Iced Tea etc is expensive at $6 for a small glass, and there's a list to write your name to check in. Seems like a big place, but they fill up quickly.

Unfortunately, they ran out of the gnocchi soup option, which was the draw for me to come here. I was disappointed with that. Got kimchi stew with beef and mixed-grain rice instead. Banchan is great! My faves are kimchi, tofu, purple cabbage, broccoli, and kale. If I wanted more banchan, the waiter brought me more, though it did take a while to get someone's attention. Standard Korean fare.

There was only one waiter working, and while he seated us quickly, we were ready to order but he kept cleaning tables instead. Since there were no other customers, I kind of wish he took our order first because cleaning could have waited. There were two people sitting in the back who looked like managers going over numbers or something, which felt a little awkward too. When the server finally came over, we both ordered the bento and asked what kind of soup came with it. He seemed caught off guard that it even came with soup, so we had to point it out on the menu. He said it was seaweed soup. Food came out pretty fast and looked great. Everything tasted really good overall. My only complaint is the soup. It had a strong fishy flavor, probably from the dashi. It gave it more of a Japanese taste, which felt a little off for a Korean restaurant. I would have preferred something like tofu, bean paste, or daikon soup instead. The banchan was tasty and there was plenty of food. I also liked that they offer multigrain rice since not all Korean spots do that. I think this place is slow mostly because it is right across from Ohgane, which is all you can eat Korean BBQ. If they had more lunch specials or promos, it might help bring in more people. The food is solid but the vibe and service could use a little more energy.
