Waking up a bit more famished than usual, the boyfrann and I were looking for a hearty breakfast, filled with fatty meats and high carbs. We got mostly what we wanted with First Watch, but had to wait about 45 minutes for a pretty average meal. This place seemed uber popular amongst the locals (we were in town from Houston), so we decided to brave the wait list. Apparently there's an app that allows you to place yourself on the waitlist remotely. Smart. For starters, we were sat with dirty menus. I know things happen, but at least the server could swap them out for clean one. She was pleasant, but that - mirrored with the fact that our table wasn't even clean when we were sat - really turned me off. The food: meh. Can't say anything blew me away. I did enjoy that the pancakes were large and fluffy. The Million Dollar Bacon was also a plus. Very maple syrup heavy, and quite messy to eat with your fingers, but good nonetheless. Is it worth a 45-minute wait? Nah. But if you can get ahead of the wait through the app and skip the line, I'd give them a try. read more

My First Watch brunch experience was exactly what you might expect at your average brunch spot. The food and drinks were good, and the service was adequate. I reserved a table online, which I would highly recommend doing with the No Wait app. It looked crowded when I got there and I was glad to be seated quickly. Since it was my first time, I ordered the avocado toast and the cinnamon roll waffles because both had good reviews on yelp. The food came out pretty quickly, which was nice. I thought the avocado toast was alright, but I didn't love it. The cinnamon roll waffles were a better, but again, I wasn't blown away by them. This meal was a satisfying experience, but certainly not one that I think I'll find myself craving again in the near future. Overall, I thought First Watch was a pretty standard brunch. It was more classy than something I could whip up at home, but there are definitely better brunch spots in San Antonio. Love that San Antonio has some healthy options when it comes to food. This place doesn't disappoint. I wish I could have taken every item off the menu but I couldnt. So I went with the yogurt topped with fruit and granola and four slices of bacon which is on their seasonal item. You can't all it breakfast without some bacon! And the bacon was awesome; a nice mixture of sweet and spice. Finally the blueberry muffin was exploding with sweet flavors as there were more blueberries than bread! Took a while to find parking. There is a rental car service close to it that took about 4 parking spots. Front door was completely, but we were seated immediately. Love the interior. Server seemed a bit scattered and not very attentive, but It was a busy Saturday morning. Last, but not least food was delicious. They also had a variety of teas that I absolutely loved. Only downside about what I got, which is the work omelette is that the mushrooms where barely even sliced. It was basically whole mushrooms in the omelette. That really was bummer 10/10 will come again. And found out there is one in Dallas. Which I will visit as soon as I get back. Hopefully it lives up to the high expectations as this one read more

I know your dishes really do not look like the pictures they portray, but really....when my breakfast came out, there were 5 small quartered pieces of strawberry with a small dollop of whipped cream in an otherwise bare french toast. First watch serves good tasting breakfast food that I have enjoyed many times. I tried the Belgian waffle which was warm and fluffy on the inside. There's not usually a long wait (or any at all) which is nice compared to a lot of other brunch places nearby. Servers were friendly and prompt. This location is set in a strip mall off the highway, but aside from the ceiling tile remnants of the precious restaurant at the location, the restaurant is a nicely decorated rustic pocket in the medical center area. I recommend bringing a sweater or getting a hot cup of coffee as the restaurant is usually kept pretty chilly. read more

I checked in online, which I liked. When I got there there was space at the community table, so I sat there. I ordered a healthy omelette, fresh fruit, and bacon. 20 mins later, my food still wasn't out. It was pretty crowded, but the cafe at work makes healthy omelettes in all of 5 minutes.... So, I then asked for my order to go, thinking it was about to be brought out. 5 mins later, the waitress came and confirmed that they would make my order to go. Since it wasn't ready yet, I just asked her to cancel my order. Why join a waitlist ahead of time online to reduce your wait, only to arrive at the restaurant and be told you are NOW being put on a 15 to 30 minute waitlist?!!! Great brunch place with several locations throughout San Antonio. This location in particular is nicely located right next to the medical center and has a nice barn meets modern interior. It is spacious, open, and warm with very friendly staff. I didn't know what juice to order, and my waitress kindly offered to bring out samples of all three! I ended up getting the kale tonic juice, which was light and crisp and delicious. I also got the elevated egg sandwich which was AMAZING! That sandwich is probably the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. The buns were brioche buns so they wereextra fluffy and warm. The sandwich was filled with avocado, lemon, a light mayo, bacon, arugula, and an over easy egg. And wow, that flavor profile is just so beautiful. The sandwich also comes with potatoes on the side, that I thought were well seasoned and with a little bit of crunch and crisp to them while still being soft. I had seen First Watch's ratings and some reviews and was excited to try it. I checked in with the host at 1:05 and was told there was a 5 to 10 minute wait. By 1:23, I noticed several parties were seated ahead of me. I'm the hostesses' defense, they may have arrived before and all gone to sit in their car. But, I don't know that 3 or 4 groups did. They close at 2:30, so at 1:23, I then told the hostess she could remove me from the list. She responded with "okay, thanks." I was surprised this would be someone's response unless they don't care to have customers. She seemed to be thanking me for dropping in rather than for waiting without being seated. It was my first visit. I will likely not return. I'll keep going to Snooze, ihop, Cracker Barrel, Jim's or Denny's. They all seem to want customers. We had to wait for 10 minutes after joining the waitlist. When we were called in to take the table there were quite a few tables empty and i wondered why were ppl waiting. I got the kale juice which was good along with the Florentine egg Benedict which was awesome. I loved the egg benedict. The bread was well cooked and i got a side of potatoes which was good as well. The menu is farm to table, and the plates are decent sized. They have specials that change from time to time and offer adventurous takes on breakfast toast - ex; millionaires bacon (plate of maple glazed bacon), burrata toast, juice bar... services was quick, efficient and friendly. We added ourselves to the wait list ahead of time, which I highly recommend, as the waits can be long especially on a Sunday afternoon. I got the avocado toast...it was *delicious*! Very generous serving of avocado, and the EVOO really just sets it off nicely. The accompanying eggs were also very good -- a nice introduction to basted eggs, which I'd never had before. I'd definitely also recommend the Kale Tonic juice. It was very refreshing! My husband had the bacado omelet, and really enjoyed that as well. First of all, we called to check how long the wait was (it was 9:45 on Sunday morning) and were told there was no wait for our party of six. Great! I asked if they could go ahead and set up the table, they said no. Ok, I get it. We head over, it was a 10-12 minute drive. En route, I see that you can join the waitlist via yelp, but it says 0 minute wait, so the option isn't available. When we arrive, we are told it will be 20-30 minutes for a table for six! I'm really not sure how things got so crazy in such a short time (and I used to work at a restaurant). They literally must have been mobbed as soon as they got off the phone with me. Food was good, but nothing to write home about. Small portions. The "humongous" pancake... isn't. Definitely not a good value for the price. The only difference between my $12 plate and my 2-yr old daughter's $6 kids meal was two eggs . We won't be back. read more
