First time trying this place. Unfortunately, it took an easy 25 minutes for a fish taco when there were only 4 couples sitting down and 2 of them already eating. What got me rilled up was seeing the cooks eating inside their tiny kitchen while people are waiting for their food. Yes, popular place but if you are going to have an open kitchen, make sure you follow sanitary guidelines and stop eating while people can see you. I am not sure if they wiped their hands before serving my food. Very disappointed. read more

Nicest people ever! If you read my reviews, I have multiple food allergies . This makes it difficult to try new places without asking a lot of questions. I knew I had to give them a try since they buy their fish from the same place I buy mine, Tunaville Market at Driscols Warf. It's nicely decorated with a tasteful fishing theme. On to the food. The menu is compact and celebrates local wild caught seafood. It's beautifully plated and seasoned. When asked if they could leave the tortilla off, it was done with a smile. I happened to peek in the sparkling clean kitchen and noticed that the chef/owner had just returned from Specialty Produce, a good sign that he takes food quality seriously. It was amazing and delicious. For those people with bigger appetites, please know that these are street tacos, and you may need to order more to fill up. I found the portions to be perfect and the pricing to be on par with the quality of the fish. Please give them a try. You won't be sorry. read more

Everything we had here was delicious. The menu was small but that's just fine since everything was perfect. Nothing here was greasy, the seafood was high quality, and the sauces were freaking yummy and flavorful. These tacos are DELICIOUS! I was very happily surprised with the amazing flavor and creativity of the tacos in this new little taco joint. I stopped by with my fiancée for a "quick taco" and kept ordering more because they were all so good we wanted to try everything on the menu (and I'm sure we will eventually try everything since we're definitely coming back). I promise I don't work there I don't have any ties whatsoever I'm just writing this review because it was that good and so I really want this business to stay afloat and thrive so I can keep coming back! We shared the Espada taco, the salmon al pastor taco, fish and chips, the hongos taco, and the coconut shrimp taco... WOW they were all so good. My favorites were the Espada and the Hongos because of the flavors and textures but my fiancée's favorite was the coconut shrimp. You can't go wrong tho they're all fantastic. They also serve wine, margaritas, craft beer, things like that so it's nice just to go for a drink as well. The decor is nice with a boat sticking out of the second floor over the bottom floor which is pretty wild honestly I don't know how they pulled that off haha anyway it's really good! Was recommended this by a group member and hearing about the mushroom taco and salmon al pastor I wanted to try this place. I went at lunch and they only had a fish sandwich. I really wanted tacos, at least the mushroom taco. Went back today at 4:00 and they had the full menu. I ordered the salmon al pastor, hongos and the de espada. First it is important to note that tacos have several important parts that are necessary. The tortilla is important on its own because it needs to be flavorful and also hold the ingredients without falling apart. Next is the main ingredient and then a sauce or salsa and depending upon the main ingredient possibly a slaw, sauce or guacamole and salsa. The de espada came with a wonderful, fantastic slaw on top. I was intrigued and tried it alone. I make a Mexican slaw that I love but this was a thousand times better! It had a very slight hint of sweetness as if it were trying to cross the border between slaws. I could eat a side of the slaw alone or it could be a wonderful topping/dressing for greens in a salad. I would order it on days I need to pretend I'm on a diet. The blackened swordfish was great on its own and in the taco it shown. Next was the taco de hongos. It was also excellent with a costra de queso on top. The al pastor was another great taco. I love achiote and had never had it with salmon. I loved it. I also had agua de jamaica and was just expecting the normal jamaica. NO this was different it was even more refreshing than mine or any other I have had. The only other jamaica like it was in CDMX which had cinnamon, but this was even better. The quantity of ingredients was overflowing and I could have easily made another taco or two. The service was impeccable, friendly and made the experience even more like something I want to experience repeatedly! read more

Everyone raves about this place... supposed to be best tacos in San Diego... this place proved to be the slowest, smallest, uncomfortable fish taco place I've ever been to. 1 hour to get one order of food and another 40 min to get the other order of food... almost 2 hours for just 4 tacos. The tacos themselves were nothing amazing, super small and super basic. Honestly, fish taco trucks in the South Bay is wayyyyyy better. I came here for lunch and didn't realize they didn't start serving their full menu until 4. For lunch they only serve a Fish Burger, and oh man it was delicious. If you like the McDonald's Filet o Fish, you are guaranteed to enjoy this. For $10 it was a little on the pricier side, but completely justified. Everything is made fresh, the bun is toasted, the piece of fish is huge and battered/fried to perfection, generous amount of lettuce/sauce/pickles you really can't ask for more out of a fish sandwich. This cute little place was so tasty! I really enjoyed the swordfish tacos the most. Melissa is an absolute Gem. She took care of us and was so sweet and kind to my children. She gave them little toys to play with when they were hangry. Honestly I'd come back to just to see her! She also is from Eastlake so maybe we will see her at Ralph's haha! It's a really small place so you need to try to go early. The service was good and the food was good but it does take a long time to get your food. On the other hand... it takes a while because everything is hand made at the time of your order. Now the tortillas were handmade and tasty. The coleslaw on the different tacos was actually really well flavored. The Baja taco was good but didn't really stand out too much other than the toppings. The coconut shrimp was literally one shrimp that was heavily breaded and it didn't go to well with the toppings. I felt like the flavors clashed a little on that one. The espalda was probably my favorite. It had a good flavor with a little kick in the slaw. The only downside is tacos are smaller than palm size. The bill was about $46 for really small tacos and a drink. Don't get me wrong I get it's a bit pricey because it's fresh and made to order but I think they could have been normal size with more flavor other than the slaw. read more

Good food, good service, small portions. Had a nice meal at Fish Guts. It's a small place with friendly service. I grabbed a seat facing the street and the server explained the menu (and the items that had run out for the day). Food came quick after I ordered two fish tacos. They were definitely tasty, but the fish portion on my tacos was pretty small compared to the rest of the dish. I wish I could taste the fish more. Still decent value considering the price. Maybe next time I'll see if I can get double fish on my tacos. I'd give it another try if I was in the area. read more

Overall experiences average at best. Long lines. They don't do any substitutions and if you don't like aïoli or whatever they put on those tacos, tough luck for you. The servers are nice and friendly, although the wait is long and they look like they were understaffed. They don't have a full bar so you're not getting a real margarita. The fish was good and fresh and the tacos were good however I feel they were overpriced. Overall, three stars at best. Not going back. read more

The ambiance was terrific because it's on the side of the road and you antique cars bouncing around. Overall nice place to eat. It was very peaceful and safe. Plenty of seats. They were "sold out" at 4pm on a Sunday. This is after a long day in the military. Very disappointed.

Coconut shrimp taco is absolutely amazing! They do sell out so be conscious of the time you're arriving.

They were out of the appetizer, missing two tacos and the fish sandwich which we came for was not on the menu u at the moment . So we ordered the tacos ....The tacos were decent ...but not worth the wait or price they took about 30minutes to start bringing out our food and then about 15-20 min to receive all 5 plates . I have had better else where and on top it our order was messed up. They were very small the actual fish was no bigger than my ring finger ,but the homemade tortilla was actually the best thing on my plate ....:this is very over priced compared to other fresh fish places . I really feel like this was a glorified food truck. I like what they are trying to promote but just not worth it for us. read more
