Everyone hypes this place claiming its better than In n Out. Well if that's why you're reading these reviews, you can stop here. IT'S NOT BETTER. Yes, different, but NOT better. I have always been on the search for a burger joint that sells burgers that remind me of family BBQs..that authentic homemade type of burger. I guess you can say this is the closest you can get to that. Yeah, all the "accessories" to burgers are nice. Even better they don't charge you more for it. However, sometimes things are better simple. The glory of In n Out is I say #2 with Cheese and its perfect. With so many choices at Five Guys I second guess my choices. "Would this have tasted better without the jalapeno... mushrooms.." and eventually I'm so drowned in second-guessing, I forget what the da*n burger tasted like! The Cajun fries are pretty good. You gotta try at least five of them cause the first one I ate I didn't like too much. -But the more I gorged, the more I enjoyed. BUT these are the kind of fries that only taste good when they are hot and fresh. If I had to eat them after they sat there for 10 minutes, I'd pretty much skip 'em (and I'm a fry feign!). Oh, dude! Can't forget the nuts. I be loving dem salty nuts. hehehe. All else aside, definitely worth a try. I tried it. I'm over it. I'm driving to In n Out for my #2 with onions and a diet coke. Have been hearing good things, was in the area and needed a quick dinner before meeting my group, so I looked up Five Guys bookmark in my Android app, and tried it for my first time here in Rancho Cucamonga. It was interesting while in line and sitting at table I could hear rumblings and comparisons to In N Out, know that I grew up in In N Out's hometown and have been eating there since the sixties, I am a loyal fan of the Snyder family's cuisine and there is some pride attached to living near their first restaurant. I must say, overall I think Five Guys has a better burger [ducking to avoid the fray] Yes I said it! Now there are 2 different distinct tastes, both are great, but 5 guys won me with the grilled onions AND grilled mushrooms, plus they have other things to add if you like like bacon. Plus their patties appeard to be hand made. I tried a few cajun fries, and I liked them, however I normally do not eat fries and even though many people love In N Out fries, I avoid them so I am not prepared to compare or comment. Verdict... Meh. Customer service wasn't an issue. Bonus points for the drink selections (Love the Gold Peak options), and I really do like the option of being able to add so many different toppings to the burgers. Also, if you like malt vinegar with your fries, that's a condiment that they offer. HOWEVER, it's overpriced and really meh. I first tried out Five Guys several years ago when a friend of mine went on about how great it was. Okie doke. Tbh, it really wasn't memorable at all. I just remember the fries being blah and it was kinda cool that you could snack on complimentary peanuts. Recently, I'd gone back over the menu and was reminded that you can add all sorts of stuff. I usually prefer turkey burgers, so that part made me hesitate. But I finally gave it a shot the other night and once again, was left with the "meh" feeling. I paid 11 bucks for a small "combo." Small = one patty, big = 2 patties. The "small" fry was pretty impressive in quantity but they were soggy and crappy, much like what I'd experienced last time. The burger itself was okay. I didn't hate it, but it reminded me of something you could make at home. Considering I spent 11 dollars for mediocre food, it was really disappointing. I don't understand why some people rave about this place, tbh. One major red flag is when you walk in and there's a ton of signage bragging about how great their burgers are and this publication rated them this, and this survey rated them that, etc. They're compensating for something, that's for sure. I'll just stick to places like In n Out, Johnny Rockets (turkey burgers = awesome, and real cheese is their default cheese), or even Farmer Boy's if you want a bigger patty. read more

"...this place is like reading a book before you watch the movie, lots of anticipation, and sometimes disappointment..." Admittedly, this place was probably one of the most anticipated destinations on my radar. I'm an All-American boy who loves his hamburgers. And I'll take this moment to reflect that everyone has their opinions, but a good burger is just that - a good burger. I haven't had too many bad experiences - but experiences overall, I've had many, and being part of the cult phenomena that is In-N-Out - I hear this place is "better?" First of all, it's a no nonsense menu as the Golden Arrow (In-N-Out), they do burgers, why need anything else right? They coin the "regular" burger as the double meat and double Cheese Burger, and the "little" burger as the single patty single cheese. The next thing that caught my eye was that there was an article posted (and there are many articles posted about this place, including the restroom for your reading pleasure - mostly from out of state) that this was the best burger deal under $5... their double double version is $4.99, hardly under $5 after CA taxes, but still arguably the best deal under $5. You won't leave here unsatisfied in the stomach, and not much damage to your pocket either at about $13 for 2. The patties are 75-100% larger than the arrow, and the cheese thicker. Five Guy's offers any and all of their toppings for FREE!...with purchase of a burger of course. I had the works, although after, I realized I should have had the equal toppings of the arrow to make this a real comparo.... but needless to say it wasn't a mistake in taste. The buns are the poppy seed consortium, and are probably too thin to hold the meaty center, and the juicy toppings, appearing to be all grilled with the burger. The real difference - and size does not matter in this taste test - is the onions. The onions are wetter, and less flavorful - mainly because there was so much more in there, and juiced together, you lose the experience of tasting all the different flavors of the lettuce, tomato, and even the mushrooms. It was probably because the meat was so massive too, it tends to muscle the rest out. Just as a comment - In-N-Out may have a smaller meat - but it keeps everything clean and seperated (somehow) so every bite, you can taste the crisp fresh veggies and the hot melty cheese and onions as well as that signature grilled on goodness of he meat... by the way - believe it or not, if you really hone in on your senses, the meat has that In-N-Out taste. From burger fan to burger fan - I like this place. From an In-N-Out fan to In-N-Out fan, no worry the hype is just, well, hype. Claim you have a world famous or world's greatest (or beat the "homegrown CA kid"), but this isn't shampoo - eating one isn't going to give you more volume - on your head that is - or is it? Great burgers surpass all, but this place is like reading a book before you watch the movie, lots of anticipation, and sometimes disappointment - not from it being bad, but just not as great as you were told from someone who never read the book. read more

I was shocked after ordering my food, I went to fill up my iced tea, and what do I discover, but there is no sugar substitute whatsoever offered. I asked and the counter person simply said that they don't carry any. For health reasons I am not supposed to consume diet sodas (salt), so I was in a bit of a predicament. For all diabetics out there BEWARE!!! Other 5 guys have sugar substitutes, so why not this one? My guess is that it costs more than sugar. Poor decision on the franchisee's/manager's part from both a customer service and an ADA point of view. Shame on you! read more

Your burger will taste home made. This is good some times not always. I don't know about you, but even when I am not in the mood for in n out, I enjoy it. The fries are ok, too much seasoning for my taste. There is no east coast in n out. Drive by any in n out and you will see a huge line, it doesn't matter if the joint has been there 10 years. My buddy and I drove cross country and I can tell you that while Five Guys are everywhere in the east coast the traffic is no way near comparable to an in n out. The food is better than the average burger joint but I would not go out of my way for this restaurant. I don't believe that many of their locations will survive past the initial curiosity. Californians have many better options. On a different note, I did enjoy White Castle. We don't have anything in California that even comes close to that. But no, White Castle isn't better than in n out. read more

I haven't been here for sometime and wanted to five it another try. Ordering food was quick but that is about it. Getting food was pretty slow and wasn't busy at all. For a burger it is alittle pricey since there are no combos. Over $20 for 2 burgers and 1 fry can get more for less and in and out. read more

so the bf went on a previous visit with 5 of his pals... 6 guys at Five Guys... and he was less than impressed. but i wanted to check it out for myself as well... had the lil bacon cheeseburger with errything sans grilled onions and mayo. i did like that all the toppings were part of the price. the burger wasn't bad and pretty big for a "lil" burger. the cajun fries were eh.... it tasted like whatever fries with cajun seasoning sprinkled only on the top... so the more you ate, the blander the fries got. They're burgers were actually pretty good, better than I expected. I did try the online ordering, still has a few issues when you get there, like the time that is given online is not accurate and I had wanted grilled onions and that didn't happen( unfortunately didn't know till we got home). The fries are okay, just the regular order is huge! But the Cajun .... Yuck! Way to much seasoning, taste terrible, and I love spicy stuff. So I finally checked out this place after hearing that Five Guys is the In-N-Out of the east coast. Basically, I thought their burgers and fries were just "ok". I liked the idea of the boxes of peanuts that you can snack on while you're waiting in line or for your food...and that's probably about it. Well not really but, First, let's talk about their menu. Five Guys has two different kinds of burgers. Regular and "Little". Apparently to them, a regular burger means two patties while "Little" is just one. Good thing we asked, otherwise I would've been stuck with a double pattie burger that I can't finish. I was thinking their "Little" burger was like slider size or some kind of kid sized burger. They should state that somewhere in their menu. When ordering your burger, you have unlimited choices of toppings...all included in the price, which is pretty good considering other places charge you like a dollar extra for mushrooms. On their menu, they also have hotdogs. We didn't order any, nor did we see anyone else order some. Might go back to try that. As for fries, two types, the regular "Five Guys" fries of Cajun style. So continuing with the fries, they're pretty thick cut fries compared to In-N-Out. The large is probably enough for like 3-4 people. They scoop them into cups and then put them in the bag...and then dump a whole bunch more in the bag. O_O Oh, that's another thing, all orders are put into paper bags, whether you're taking it to go or not. Which I think is a waste of paper. It would also save them money if they just used washable trays for dine-in customers. Anyway, going back to the fries, they're decently good, but after eating a bunch, I felt heavy...1, because they're thick cut, so, a lot of potatoes!, and 2, man....sooo oily. I took a look at where they cook the fries, (open kitchen), and the place where they hang the fry baskets to let the oil drip, are stacked on top of each other...so basically the oil is just running down to the next basket....doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of draining the oil????? You'd be lucky if you got fries from the top basket. -_____- Now, to the long awaited burger. It's not a bad burger, but I wouldn't say it's the best, let alone a comparison to an In-N-Out burger. I've tasted better...and have had burgers that looked better. It tastes like a burger I could've made at home on my bbq grill. The mushrooms I got on there were mediocre...no flavor to them. I got cheese in mine too and....uhh...what cheese...you could barely even notice it was in there. And the bun wasn't too different than buns you'd buy at like Costco or something. The overall look was pretty sloppy and not at all "picture-appetizing" to me. I know I'm not the only one who thinks that when you bite into a burger, it should be juicy enough that you don't even need all those condiments. And this burger was definitely not it. read more

I can't believe how anyone would prefer 5Guys to In-N-Out! In-N-Out is by far better than this place. Cheese was not evevn melted, Onions too chuncky, couldn't taste any Mayo, A1,lettuce nothing but meat! No FLAVOR! I Love Burgers and was so excited to try 5Guys. So sad to be so disappointed, beacuse i was really looking foward to this place. This Burger was not made with Love. Taste like a Robot made it! What a sad imitation on In-N-Out. Well, the reason for the 2 stars ....expensive burger! In fairness to the burger itself, I can taste the good quality of the meat. The French fries were okay. They have a high tech soda machine . There was no combo order. Only separate orders. The prices were comparable to eating in a burger chain restaurant like fuddruckers. But fuddruckers gives you more vegetables, more condiments and warm melted cheese in a dispenser. The store is more comparable to In and Out burger restaurant. But if you are not ready to spend more money for a burger, don't go to this resto! Speaking for my self, I prefer In and Out because it's cheaper but equally good! However, they give you free roasted peanuts all over the place. I guess it's there way of pacifying you as not to complain about the burger prices! read more

I like this place when I'm in the mood for a large messy burger. I get my bacon cheeseburger "all the way" along with jalapenos and bbq sauce. You can eat all the peanuts that you want and most people toss the shells on the floor. Unless you have a voracious appetite, stick with the single patty burger and regular fries. For fast food, I'm not complaining. Everything tastes extremely fresh. I love the fact that I can customize my burger. Service here has always been extremely fast and everyone is friendly. Yes, I am going to make the typical comparison that everyone makes....If I have a choice to go here vs. In-n-Out, I would pick 5 Guys. I really like five guys. Now dont get me wrong this burger isnt burger nirvana like fathers office, comme ca or the foundry. But for a fast food joint it is really good. I especially love their fries. Seriously love! My hubs and i share one large order with our burgers and its more than enough. I like that you can have mushrooms and jalapenos on your burger for no extra charge how cool is that. But i cant recommend the jalapenos because they are fresh and grilled not in vinegar which i would prefer. But all in all a great spot to grab a good burger. And i dont think it is expensive at all. I dont know where you other yelpers eat but i find six bucks for a burger to be extremely reasonable. read more

I happen to like Five Guys! I love that everything is cooked to order and that the toppings are unlimited including the bacon and cheese, which many people do not know! If you've already ordered a bacon cheese burger, you can add extra cheese and bacon at no additional cost, which is a plus! Love the french fries especially with a side of cajun seasoning.. It's not the BEST burger ever, but considering that there aren't many mom and pop burger joints in the I.E. like there are in L.A. it's the next best thing! read more

After seeing the line for this place since it opened I was very curious to try it out. Finally went there today right at 11am and they had a short line. The junior bacon cheeseburger was pretty good and the cajun fries were good too. Not as good as eureka burger in Redlands but pretty good. read more

I went to Five Guys for the first time and had an OK experience. The first thing I noticed is the similar red and white tile which totally reminded me of a bootleged In-N-Out. I tried to look pass it, but then I saw numerous poster boards displaying how great Five Guys is as a burger joint. In my opinion, who cares?! Let your food do the talking. Next, I noticed the long line. It was exspected being a few days after the grand opening and all they hype. The line moved smoothly due to the fast and helpful staff who took the orders. After the order, it seemed like everyone had to stand in doors to hear their order number called because there was no intercom inside or outside to announce the current availible order. Instead, a worker would shout the number out in hope that the customer would hear their number. Everyone waiting for their order. Crowded the softdrink bar. It was a little annoying to try to get a refill. Once seated with my order, I noticed bags and bags of potatoes, and an employee sweating his ass off trying to manuver, a dolly full of several 50lb bags of potatoes, around the crowed area of customers waiting for their order. During my stay, this happened several times. I remeber this because my brother had to get up out his seat and let the poor potatoe guy move by with a little ease. It seems to be impractical to have the potatoes out in the open like that for both employee and customer. The food was good. I ordered a bacon cheese burger with sauteed mushrooms and onions with A1 sauce, cajun fries, and a bacon cheese dog with mushrooms,onions, and bbq sauce to share. The burger was a good size. I enjoyed it, but it's nothing to brag about. Its average tasting burger just a bit better then a Wendy's burger. I noticed in a few reviews people are going crazy about free toppings. I think it's just the word "free" is what people want to hear. Any burger joint has toppings that can be removed from the order when it already has everything on it. I don't think its a big deal. The sauteed mushrooms and onions were good. I really like the bacon used too. The cajun fries are whatever. I don't know what it was about them, maybe the smell. I will order regular fries next time and I think it's cool there's a vinegar condiment in addition to ketchup. And a regular order of fries is more then enough fries. I actually enjoyed the hot dog a little more then the burger. The onions, bacon, and bbq sauce was a good choice. Overall, those bags of potatoes need to be moved and an intercom needs to be added at least outdoors. I enjoyed the burger and hot dog. Burger had a good taste but I think I was expecting more simply because of the posters telling me that. Again, let the food do the talking. Fellow yelpers, please don't compare this to In-N-Out. It's criminal if one does. In-N-Out has had the same menu probably since the 40s. It's original, simple, and should be in a class of its own. And wow Five Guys has free toppings...so what! Overrated and highly disappointed. The problem is: I've had In N Out. I ordered the little cheeseburger with grilled onions and grilled mushrooms and cajun fries. All were disappointing. Nice staff and got our food fast, however, the taste was not there. I could have been in a Burger King and not noticed the difference in taste. Is this what is considered "good" burgers on the east coast? If it is, I'm glad I don't live there. read more

Cashier explained the menu in detail because it was our 1st time. Ordered bacon burger, had cheese on it. Came back, that burger had no bacon & no BBQ sauce. Called mgr & he never even offered a remake. Just simply thanked us for the complaint!! So not worth $6. Burgers really lack seasoning. Toppings are a plus though. If they can remember to put them on. (Can get an In N Out meal for that price). read more

Got a burger and the patty was significantly smaller then the past times I've been here. I complained that I came here instead of their competition and paid the high price for a big juicy burger. I showed it to the manager and she shrugged and said they changed patties and it is smaller but oh well. Not the customer service is expect or the burger for the price. Update. Not too much to change. Got the Bacon Cheeseburger and fries. I would avoid the bacon next time. Seemed like they just piled bacon bits on the bottom bun. Otherwise, the bun was much better than I've experienced in the past. This time the fries were cooked perfectly. I think they forgot to salt the batch. Which meant they were only slightly over salted by just being in the basket they salt all day. I think I will ask for more of a well done fry with no salt going forward. 5 guys still think they're better than they are, but they seem to be making baby steps of progress. read more

WTH do people see in this place? The patties are tiny, the bun is soggy and the cheese isn't even melted. Yeah sure you can choose from a list of different toppings but when they're not very good quality what good is it. I was here once before when it first opened but I thought it sucked so I haven't tried it again until today. Way better than last time. Food was great and the place was clean. That's extra props cus I never see clean places that serve peanuts. I had a veggie sandwich with mayo and cheese and it was bomb. The ambiance needs some work though read more

My friend told me about this place because of its popularity on the east coast. He raved about how tasty the burgers were and that 5 Guys was famous for their fries. Well he was definitely right on both counts. They give you a huge selection of free toppings for your burger and I still can't decide whether the 5 Guys fries or the Cajun fries is better. So I get both. Definitely would recommend this place to my friends. read more
