Beef bowl with vegetables, green onions
    Mona Q.

My daughter and I stopped here for a quick lunch on our journey to La Jolla. The Flame Broiler is a healthy fast food place that you order at the counter and most orders are just like ours, for take out. They serve simple, healthy and delicious rice bowls. The service provided is more than expected for a fast food place. My daughter adheres to a gluten free diet and the lady who helped us made sure my daughters bowl did not have any sauce as that will cause an allergy reaction. Their bowls are easy as 1, 2,3 All bowls can be customized to your taste or craving. Select the bowl size, then the base (either steam rice or brown rice) then select the protein. The bowls can be customized to satisfy your craving-taste from skinless-boneless chicken, boneless-beef, tofu or only steamed vegetables. All bowls are served with a healthy serving of steamed vegetables. They are located off Talbert Ave near the 405 freeway.

Service was attentive from the beginning, with the server checking in regularly. I checked in at 8:05, was seated by 8:10, and got my food around 8:30. I ordered the Miso Bacon Carbonara which was delicious. The sauce was rich and creamy without feeling too heavy, and the miso added a sweet flavor that made it different from a traditional carbonara. The bacon was cooked well, crispy around the edges while still tender and the slight kick of spice kept each bite interesting. Overall, I'd definitely come back for this dish. I did like that parking was not an issue as there were many spots. service was pretty good. the dishes were small so be prepared to spend about at least $40+ each. -Hamachi crudo: nothing too special about it. only 5 pcs of hamachi. -Pork jowl: expensive dish considering the pork jowl were cut so small and portion was little (we had more lettuce cups than the pork itself) -Dashi pesto: this one was good. unfortunately, there was only 3 scallops. for a $30 dish, it prob needed another scallop. -Vongole: another good pasta dish. the sauce used was great. pricy dish however. -Miso bacon carbonara: this one seemed like it was their most popular dish. very creamy. tasted pretty good. I liked the egg yolk to make it creamier. -Momonoki chicken wing: don't bother. not worth it. overall, they've seemed to nail it on the pasta dishes. The diner is very clean with interesting artwork and vibrant colors. I got the Five-Spice Chicken Fried Steak, Mama's Crispy Rolls, and a cup of Chicken broth to share. The rolls were hot and crispy with fresh leafy greens. The chicken fried steak was very crispy with a consistency almost like fried chicken. The taste is different from a traditional southern type of chicken fried steak. It had an interesting flavor like a mix of the pho seasoning. It is a brownish yellowish color and tastes a little like curry. It paired well with the tots. This was a hearty but not super heavy brunch dish and having a cup of the chicken broth was perfect to wash everything down. The breakfast burrito looked very good on the menu and I might try that for on another visit. The truth is I couldn't have imagined what an enjoyable meal myself and my two companions would be having. Having flown in from Seattle for work we were desperate to get away from the Hyatt Regency for a little bit better food. So I turned to yelp. As we walked inside you are immediately taken by the charming atmosphere. Everyone was so welcoming! From our amazing waiter Timmy to Misty our chef/owner. Every single dish was fantastic. From the French Onion soup with bone marrow, the Mac and cheese shareable, to the garlic bread with pesto.. But the entrees and desserts SHINED! I had the scallops while the other two had the 8oz hanger steak. Both steaks were cooked to perfection (rare and medium well) and the scallops were so buttery soft they melted in your mouth. The desserts was cheesecake with a raspberry gelee for one and a warm banana bread with ice cream and chocolate drizzle for the other. Even though we were all stuffed, the plates were worthy of a lick (although we restrained ourselves). So if you're ever find yourself in Huntington Beach and want to up your food game, come to this little gem. It won't disappoint. Will definitely be back next time!

The purple cocktail was one of the most unique drinks I've had in a long time--light, refreshing, perfectly balanced, and not overly sweet. The presentation with the charred pineapple was such a cool touch that made it feel like they really care about every detail. The second cocktail was just as impressive, with bright citrus flavors that were incredibly refreshing and perfect for a warm Huntington Beach evening. The atmosphere at Jolie deserves just as much praise as the drinks. Sitting outside during golden hour with the ocean just down the street made for the perfect setting. Whether you're on a date, catching up with friends, or just looking to unwind after work, this place has an amazing vibe. The staff made us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in, and you can tell they genuinely want everyone to have a great experience. Jolie has officially become one of my favorite spots in Huntington Beach. It's rare to find a place that nails the drinks, the atmosphere, and the service all at the same time, but they absolutely delivered. I already can't wait to come back and work my way through the rest of the cocktail menu because if these two drinks are any indication, I'm in for a treat. Huge shoutout to the entire team--you've earned a customer for life!

We also checked out the rooftop afterward. It's mostly tables and lounge seating, but the ocean view from up there is definitely worth seeing. I ordered the lobster roll ($32.50). Unfortunately, there wasn't much lobster for the price. Looking at it without the lettuce (and even next to my sunglasses for perspective), it felt pretty skimpy. The lobster itself was tender, and the toasted roll was good, but I expected a lot more filling for what it cost. The fries were crispy, and the herb dipping sauce was a nice addition. We also shared the Spicy Tuna Stack. It wasn't really spicy unless you happened to get a piece of red Thai chili in your bite. There was more mayo than needed, which made the dish a bit bland overall. The sweet pickles underneath added an unexpected sweetness that actually worked well, and the crispy rice was my favorite part. Still, it wasn't something I could eat much of because the flavors became a little too rich and one-dimensional. The Goat Cheese Artichoke Blossoms were good, though a bit bland. They were crispy and enjoyable but could have used a little more seasoning to make them stand out. Overall, Jolie is a nice place to grab a drink and enjoy the views, but the food didn't quite live up to the prices. If I'd come back it would be for the atmosphere, but I'd probably order something different next time.
