I went to grab a quick lunch at the Flame Broiler yesterday for the first time ever. I ordered the chicken bowl with brown rice, and it was alright. The chicken was nice and juicy but there was little flavor. I had to add 3 packets of hot sauce to make it appetizing. The service is really nice though. They even let you call in advance if you want to get it to go. But because their service is so fast, I've never had to use that option. read more

The works plate here is good. It gives you a variety of meat with vegetables, a cabbage salad, brown/white rice, and basically half an orange. I would say the food was pretty good, but nothing special. But they give you enough food to fill you up tho. Service was pretty good. I liked being able to know all the nutritional facts and information posted on the wall. But this place just didn't stand out. I don't consider this any form of Korean type food at all. This is one of the healthier options in the Woodbury Town Center plaza. I'm not a huge fan of teriyaki anything so I've been avoiding coming here for awhile. But, like Dru C., the coupons drew me in. I found a buy one, get one free coupon. When I did go, I was impressed by all the "healthiness" it was promoting: "We don't fry! We don't serve Skin! No trans fat! Absolutely no MSG!" They have brown rice at no charge! The also placed Veggie Facts and Healthy Facts on the walls which were interesting reads while waiting for the food. I had the chicken veggie bowl, which was decent. The one complaint I had is they need to serve it in a bigger bowl. I felt like I had to eat all the chicken before reaching my brown rice. When I tried mixing it all, stuff was just falling out of the bowl. Overall, I'm not totally impressed here (only the fact that they really emphasize healthy). I've been coming to this Flame Broiler for quite some time now. The first 10 to 15 times I went, service was somewhat questionable and it was annoying on the inside the restaurant because they had CNN blaring all the time. However, in the past six to eight months, the place has improved quite a bit. The service is much friendlier, and even though the staff has changed a few times, they always seem to be polite and professional. They seem to have changed the TV station to something a little bit more benign, so it's not so irritating eating inside. Also, I get the most Chicken on my bowl at this location that any other Flame Broiler location. Anyway, hopefully other people will notice the Improvement and leave an appropriate rating. read more

My advice to all - check your order before you take and leave. This is not the first time the employees got my order completely wrong, but has occurred multiple times now. The order is simple, chicken bowl, no onions, brown rice. I get home and there are onions and white rice. Not only may they get your order wrong, there may be a chance of hair in your food. This happened to me awhile back. I refrained from coming here for a few months and now that I came back to give them another chance, they screw up on my order. The service is horrible as well. First of all the service is piss poor. Encountered a nasty counter boy who said that customers couldn't eat in the restaurant since it was close to 8:30 pm. It was only 8:20 and the hours on the door stated they are open until 9:00. He was nasty and said that's what I said. I asked him if corporate was aware he was doing this and he said they were not part of corporate. I asked him did the franchise owner know he was doing this and he asked ME what my problem was. HE then proceeded to tell incoming customers that I was giving him a problem all because I questioned his nasty rude self about not allowing customers to eat with more than 40 minutes left to closing time. The chicken and rice are drier than the Sahara desert. I wanna start off by saying this is my first review. I work in the food/service industry. Tonight I went to this location that seemed understaffed and the staff that was there, didn't know what was going on. I ordered a works bowl and wanted no cabbage. The works bowl on the menu said $ 6.99. I was charged on the receipt $ 7.49. I asked about that and they said it was the tax which was not true. The tax was at the bottom of the receipt. I saw on the register that all or any modifications was as extra $.50. So apparently, I have to pay extra to not get an item in my bowl. Not only is the franchisee saving money with food cost (charging me 6.99 but not giving me the item), but also charging me extra to not get the item. To me, that just seems wrong. Lazy workers. Came here the other day around 8:30pm. They asked if my order was here or to go and I said here. They told me I wont be able to eat here. I asked them why. They told me the store is closing in 30 minutes, therefore I won't be allowed to eat in the restaurant. So I took my food and ate it outside. And at 8:55pm the worker locked the door and I couldn't get any more water. When walking in, it isn't welcoming with mops and brooms everywhere as if they don't want you to be there. When we walked in I thought it might be "clean and healthy" but when we started to order i realized what kind of a rip-off it was. This is after i paid $15.50 for our two dishes which included the fee for removing the cabbage. So i started getting pissed off. "Where does it say that you serve dark meat only? And where else does it say that for two bucks more you can order white meat..its not on the menu!!" So she shows me in tiny tiny print that i could not see with my glasses on up on the board behind her..i wanted to give it back because even the chicken was bland with no salt or pepper and she would not accept it cause there was no manager on duty. ALSO When i asked her why she charged me more than the price on the menu..she said that they had just raised their prices and had not changed it on the menu yet.. My son's chicken came with the terriyaki sauce and at the time he thought it tasted decent enough to eat...but as soon as he was done he experiences indigestion which he never gets as a result of eating this chicken dish. The girl told me that if i waited the manager would come to help me. As he had not showed up by the time my son was done...we left.. and today I threw away ALOT fo money on garbage which i never do as i usually cook at home or go to LA Sirena which is very close to where we live..their food is ALWAYS fresh and wonderful...we were just looking for a small change which was clearly a huge mistake... In the junk food-laden world we live in, it's no wonder "healthy" doesn't taste as good. Before I start, I'd like to address a few things that I've read that were written by fellow Yelpers: -The last time I checked, we live in the United States of Amerca, not Asia. So please, don't expect to come in here and get "authentic" Asian food. I think we're all pretty aware it's "Asian-inspired." - Should ANYONE be shocked that a side of rice costs $2.50? First of all, have you ever set foot in a grocery store? The price of grains is expensive! If you really want to save money, make your own meal at home. This is true of ANYWHERE you go! That $2.50 goes to buying the rice, paying the guy to cook the rice, and paying for the electricity bill to cook the rice! On top of that, the guy who owns the Flame Boiler has to write a fat check to the Irvine Company to have the space where he has to pay for the rice, pay the guy to cook the rice and have a kitchen to enable the guy to cook the rice! Oh yeah... and the water bill so another guy can wash the rice cooker! *Deep breath* Now... on to my review. This is my second trip to this location. I was in a hurry, we've been MIA at the grocery store and I didn't want Panera, El Pollo Loco, The Counter or Jalapenos (is it still there?). With so many fine choices at Woodbury Town Center (*sarcasm*), the last resort was The Flame Boiler. Yeah, I could've spent double at the Tomikawa down the street, but the $6 for a bowl of chicken with 1/2 rice and 1/2 veggies made it look like a bargain. The food was hot, which is more than I can say for other Asian-y fast-food joints I've been to. Also, it wasn't drenched in sodium-ladened mystery sauce. I ordered 2 beef and veggie bowls with no rice. The vegetables were not cooked. The cabbage was crunchy. The beef was stringy and tasted like it was microwaved. When I offered the coupons I had 2, Buy one Bowl get one free, Buy one bowl and two drinks and get a bowl free. The person behind the counter looked at the coupons and told me he will accept the coupon of buy two drinks and a bowl. Rip Off! Tried the grilled chicken bowl with brown rice and I would describe it as "edible not appetizing." The chicken, white meat, was flavorless and dry to the point where it was difficult to swallow. The sauces on the side did not help the dryness and my husband and I put down our food about halfway and never returned. Disappointing because it's so popular. Sad face :( read more
