Spicy Shrimp and Pork Wonton 蝦肉紅油抄手 (6 pcs)

I've had Flaming Ox bookmarked for awhile, but had the opportunity to give it a try through one of Yelp's Community experience. We got the choice to get the fried or boiled wontons (got the boiled), firecracker fries and then we added on a bowl of mala spicy noodles and an egg. Wow! Service was quick & friendly. Food was so good! Everything was so flavorful. The fries were crispy and garlicky. The wontons were perfect, little pillows of meat! The noodles were chewy, meat was tender and overall bowl was well balanced. Also, the egg was a nice touch! Even though there were extra condiments on the table, I didn't feel the need to use any of it. My boyfriend and I are now fans! We don't live far from the plaza and this is now going to be added to one of the spots we will definitely return to.

It is located in the same complex as AAA and City Sports along with other restaurants. Once you go inside, it has an open layout. The service is good and inside is clean. We ordered: - Fried Pork Chop - Popcorn Chicken - Tofu & Century Egg - Pickled Cabbage - Blanched Greens W/ Shallot - Spicy Shrimp And Pork Wonton - Traditional Beef Noodle Soup - Minced Pork Belly Rice Plate Out of everything, the Traditional Beef Noodle Soup and the Minced Pork Belly Rice Plate stand out and are the best. The beef in the noddle soup is very tender. The noodles are cooked right and the broth is good. The Minced Pork Belly Rice Plate is delicious and very flavorful. The fried pork chop is the worst and very dry. The rest of the dishes are decent, nothing special. Please note that parking can be challenging during peak workout time and meals time.

This past weekend, I had the chance to try out Flaming Ox with a few friends. I ordered their dry traditional beef noodles, and we ended up sharing an order of their popcorn chicken and chilled egg plant appetizer. After placing your order on the app, the food is prepared quickly out of the kitchen. In total, our party waited no more than 10 minutes for all our dishes to be ready. I enjoyed the texture of the thick noodles here, but they're not the most QQ noodles I've had in the Bay. They are very generous with how many pieces of beef shank are included in the bowl of noodles. The pieces of beef are seasoned well and cooked perfectly: just the right amount of chew, without being fall apart tender -- exactly how you would find beef prepared if you order a bowl of beef noodle soup in Taiwan. I have no notes on the popcorn chicken: hot, crispy, and juicy, and you have a choice of three sauces to go along with it when you place your order. I had a chance to take a bite of the minced pork belly rice plate my friend ordered and the pork belly in it was aromatic, and melt-in-your mouth tender. I loved that the dish didn't taste too oily either. Overall, Flaming Ox is a solid 4.5 in my book that rounds up to a 5.

How did I forget to write a review for the Ox!? Such a bad Yelper... 4.5 rounded up to 5 ***** I actually came here during their soft opening back in 2024 and thoroughly enjoyed the food. I'm glad nothing has changed. I think it may have gotten even better! Not the biggest of venues. This place filled up fast. Parking is generally not an issue as there are plenty of spots in the shopping plaza. No issues with the service, friendly, fast and efficient. ~ FIRECRACKER FRIES - 5/5 (NEW RELEASE - May 2026) I really liked these! Great flavor and texture; crispy, yet soft, slightly spicy and savory. Delish! ~ SHRIMP AND PORK SPICY WONTON - 4/5 (NEW RELEASE - May 2026) These were good, just a solid and tasty wonton. Nothing outstanding. ~ BEEF NOODLE SOUPS: - TRADITIONAL - 5/5 Their signature dish. The Beef was so tender and juicy. The broth is very well balanced without being overly salty. The noodles were brilliant as well. I would order this again in a heartbeat. ~ RICE PLATES: - BRAISED PORK BELLY - 4.5/5 Another brilliant dish. Flavorful and satisfying. I'll be back...

Yummy Taiwanese fast food. It's like a homier Moon Bear Express, or a Chi-Potle, or a El Boba Loca. Fried wontons are snackable like McNuggets but crunchier and more filling. The firecracker fries are a must: spicy, irregularly shaped potato wedges that come with skewers that serve like tiny chopsticks.

We went on a Saturday dinner time and surprisingly, it wasn't too crowded. Decor was casual--nothing fancy. Parking was not too hard either because it is in a large plaza. I personally like that the menu has a decent amount of options but wasn't overwhelming with choices. We ordered the firecracker fries and shrimp, pork spicy wontons, fried shrimp and pork wonton, and dry traditional beef noodle. Our fav was the pork spicy wontons so would definitely recommend that. It has a kick but was not too spicy. Fries were second best and the other two tied. Although I didn't care too much for the noodle dish, I have to admit the meat was very tender. Overall would probably come back for the good appetizers. I would like to try other dishes as well.

I came here with a friend and we really liked the variety of asian foods here. I personally preferred non-fried asian food and they had a lot of steamed options! My friend preferred the fried dumplings and the fries. Parking was super easy since there's a large parking lot Service was on point with speed and diligence

Decent lunch special deal with good soup. Overheard the owner talking about how he went all around Taiwan and tried all the noodles and brought this one to the states. Chashu rice was good, favorite was the noodles for sure though. Ordering is quick and easy via kiosk.

Delicious and affordable options! I visited on a Thursday evening, and it was full but not too busy. It did feel like there weren't nearly enough waiters, as it took awhile to order, get our food, and pay. The store is beautifully decorated, with gorgeous murals. It feels like a casual, inviting space. I tried the popcorn chicken plate - it was solid! The popcorn chicken really hit the spot. It was crispy, well-flavored, with a soft interior. The chicken was paired with plenty of rice, cabbage, and a tea egg. The price was really good for the amount of food I got. I would definitely visit again to try more yummy dishes!

My friends and I love trying new places and couldn't pass up the opportunity to try the Flaming Ox. I found this spot one day as I was passing by this complex on my way to work. We went in right at 11:45am and were surprised to find people in there. As we sat there and waited for our food; it got quite busy and loud. But the turnover is quite fast, so the wait times tend to be less than usual. We ordered the scallion pancakes, 3 different lunch meals, friend pork & shrimp wontons and firecracker fries. I ordered the traditional Mala lunch set with small belly rice (it's a lunch special in the bottom middle square). One of my friends ordered the lunch special #2, traditional mala with cucumbers. And my other friend ordered the mini belly rice set. The beef in our traditional mala was so tender that you could break it apart by picking it up with your chopsticks. The belly rice was amazing! Sweet and savory with traditional Taiwanese flavors We also ordered a passion fruit iced tea and a lychee iced tea. Personally I found the iced teas too sweet for my liking and watered it down with water. The only thing we had issue with was ordering. The interface was a little hard to understand and a member of our party accidentally ordered more than 1 of the sets as they didn't realize they had done so.

Clean and cozy restaurant with great food and good portions! We had the Firecracker Fries - Favorite, just the right crispiness to softness ratio with an amazing spicy coating flavor. Good with or without the dipping sauce. (Dipping sauce was really good too!) Spicy Shrimp and Pork Wontons: was also very good... wontons were a bit small.. but packed with flavor. Fried Shrimp and Pork Wontons - my least favorite, again little filling and just ok. Still good, just not my fav Traditional Beef Noodle Soup (mild spicy) - perfect portion and AMAZING flavor. Got it with the thin noodles and even those were soft and yummy. It could use a little bit more broth, but flavor wise it was DELICIOUS! Staff were all friendly and welcoming - their guidance was spot on!! Parking could be a challenge during lunchtime weekdays - they suggest going evenings or weekends for a less crowded experience. Would I go back? YES!!!

Finally got to try this place for lunch as it's always packed. The key is to arrive at opening to get a seat. We order off the lunch menu where can get two items. I got the pork belly bowl with spicey pork/shrimp wonton. This totally reminded me of the food I had in Taiwan while traveling for work. It's nice and comforting food. I think next time would ask for rice in the side as meat is too saucy. Egg was nice soft. Sometimes it can be over boiled. The wonton is small but good meat portion as most places it more wonton than filling. We got pork chop appetizers that to had nice crunch and meat is moist. Not over powering spices. Co worker got the beef soup combo with popcorn chicken. The soup had great flavor her complaint was not enough soup In the bowl. But other than that it was good and noodles were just right too. Popcorn chicken is same as the pork chop flavor also nice and moist. The cucumbers were yummy as well nice and crunchy. We also got the passion fruit green tea. That's a pass next time as it was overly sweet.

Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent experience. Flaming Ox is located inside a strip mall with a private parking lot. The lot was 95% full on a weeknight... The restaurant was rather small and featured both indoor and outdoor dining. Ordering was done via QR code or with the staff. Started off with the popcorn chicken and the chicken was rather dry... bummer The blanched Veggies with fried garlic were quite tasty. The dry beef noodles were decent. Opted for the wide noodles and they were ok. Some of the noodles were stuck together. The half beef half tendons were fantastic. The beef tendons were super tender and the beef shank pieces were fantastic. The portions were gigantic...maybe better for sharing?

Ask the Community - Flaming Ox

Is their bone broth the fatty kind?

No, our bone broth is clean, light and high in collagen. It's not like what you would get from a heavier Tonkatsu style broth. In addition to the bones, we also build depth of flavor from daikon and aromatics.

    Is it dog friendly?

Dog can sit outside. They have a few tables outside

    Does the restaurants use MSG?

I don't believe so. As in I'm not sleepy after eating it.

    Is there outdoor seating?

Hi Alyssa! Yes! Weather permitting we have a table for 4 and a table for 2. :)

Is your fried pork chop/ popcorn chicken dairy free? Egg ok but making sure no milk/ butter etc?

Yes, it's dairy free and also egg free. :)

There was a bit of a wait and you can waitlist on their ipad inside. We waited for about 20-30 minutes.    Before getting seated they ask if you want to do the normal hot pot style or AYCE. The AYCE runs for 90 minutes and is $24.99 during lunch and $30.95 during dinner time. They also charge for leftover food which is $6 per lb. We ended up doing the normal one pot hot pot for each person.    I always get my usual lamb hot pot which already comes with vermicelli noodles and choose rice as my free side dish. There are various levels of spiciness and I chose extra spicy which is a level down from there flaming spicy from what I can recall. Honestly it was not spicy enough but I did not want to get the spiciest level in fear that it would be too oily. Perhaps I will try that the next time to see if it is.    They have a bar further in the back of the restaurant where you can get creat your sauce and get some garnishes for your hot pot. I also noticed they have some other sides like noodles and such next to it. It seems if you are not participating in AYCE you can still get sauces and garnishes but I am not sure about the other sides.    The interior has changed from the last time I came here and it looks nice! Service was standard and everyone was nice. It does feel more chaotic now that they have AYCE but that  is understandable.

People following their cooking passions in cloud kitchens can't always control a lot of the experience beyond their kitchens so it's good to remember that sometimes behind each order is an individual hustling to try to keep a dream alive to own their own place someday. Be kind when you can. I'm saying all this because while the ambiance around the San Jose Downtown Food Hall and Bento Pro isn't great, the restaurant's output is relatively good. Instead of picking up food here in person, I'll probably adjust and order delivery in the future. I dropped my coworker off and ran an errand while she went in to order at the kiosks. There is metered parking in front and we saw reviews about free parking close by but didn't search for it. It wasn't the lunch rush so the area was pretty quiet and a lot of eateries were closed. She placed orders for our group at two different eateries in the food hall and the estimated wait times for both were fast and accurate. Back at the office, I got to sample my coworker's braised chicken quarter bento. The chicken was delicious and the bento was stuffed with sides and white rice. One of the sides, a stir fry vermicelli noodle, was really salty to me but my coworker who prefers very heavily seasoned food liked it. My minced pork dry noodles was similarly very salty. It seemed like someone had done a heavy pour of a concentrated sauce but it was a flavorful salty that I could see promise in so I solved the problem by boiling up a pack of plain ramen noodles, mixing it in, and saving half for dinner. The resulting dish was much more pleasant in sodium, still flavorful with all of the toppings and sauce mixed in, and I didn't have to cook for dinner. Noodles weren't soggy by the time we made it to the office and the whole dish was warm and fresh. Some people would probably have given that experience a low score but this is a relatively new eatery. It's quick, generous in portion, has the right flavors and just needs to work out some early unevenness. Everything worked out and I'm looking forward to trying it again via delivery.
