Travel back in time to the 1920s, even the neighborhood is fascinating like going through a time tunnel. This was Fresno First airport that opened in 1929. It's dripping with history and depending on what you order, perhaps gravy and salsa or syrup as well! Apparently, charles Lindberg flew in the 1920s and over 20K people showed up to greet him. One of the biggest names going on at the time and even later, that's pretty cool. It's so fun pigging out here watching all the planes coming in and taking off. Apparently, some of these pilots actually fly in just to have breakfast or lunch and then takeoff! That should tell you something! I forget what I had. It's been a while. I thought I had written this review much earlier. It was definitely 'get in there again good!' It's one of the most unique places to visit in the city. Ambiance 5/5. Service 5/5. Food 3/5. Came up from LA on the way to Yosemite. Staff was very friendly and patient with my group of 8. Ambiance was quiet and quaint, we got here a little after open on Sunday morning of Memorial weekend. Lobby was attractive, loved the wood seating. There was only one plane parked though, didn't see much on the strip. Food was quite bland, but portions are big. We got Red Chilaquiles, Bacon Breakfast Burrito, Pancakes, French Toast, and some breakfast plates that come with a meat of choice, eggs and potatoes. Everything was bland, but there are some condiments on the table to help a little. Would not come here again, but would not protest if someone I knew wanted to come here. We've been talking about eating here for years. While it's always been a suggestion, we never made it a destination stop, if that makes sense. Of course, the owner and name of the place has changed many times. The reason we came this time is because we were literally 1 block away visiting a friend. We left her house very hungry and as soon as I suggested it, my wife perked up. We walk in and there is a small line. We were second in line, but I don't know if there are others waiting who have already put their names in. We also failed to ask what the wait was. It seems we came at the end of a rush because they called 2 names who apparently left, so we only waited maybe 5 min. We get seated with a nice view of the runway. We got to watch a few planes take off and land, which was exciting for the family since they've never seen it so close. That's probably part of the appeal and why Flight Line has blown up on social media. More on that later. While we are sitting, my wife is trying to get the attention of the owners mom, whom she previously worked with. The server joked that she would look their way of she stayed stationary long enough. Like, "hey, get back to work!" True enough, momma Brenda looked over and my wife gave her a look. Momma Brenda came over and met the rest of my family, told us about her daughter (the owner), and some of the other family. Here is where your results may vary. Because we spent so much time talking with Brenda Jr and Brenda Sr, it took awhile before we were able to get our order in. I wasn't keeping time, but it was long enough where I started to wonder when it would happen, aside from our drinks, which took the normal amount of time. Let me backtrack to our conversation with Brenda Jr. It was interesting to hear how she came to be the owner. I don't recall the full story, but it was a very good deal. The thing is, it was a rough first year for Brenda Jr. To the point where they wondered if they would make it. Somewhere along the lines, the place went viral. I don't know who they have to thank for putting them on the global map. I say this because every restaurant that has been here has had good Yelp reviews. But as I said, it's off the beaten path. Anyways, back to the person who put Flight Line on the map, I'm sure Brenda Jr would give you the biggest hug. After talking with the Brenda's, the food started to come less than 10 minutes later. I did take notice of a couple sitting across from us. I got up to take the youngest to the restroom, so I wasn't sure if they got waited on. I did see them sit, but that was it. I'd say about 5 min after we got our food, they got theirs. So it seems that our long wait was due to the distraction we posed since we were engaging the owner, her mom and our server. I got the chile verde burrito, my son switched it up and got red chilequiles instead of green. My wife and youngest went with their go to orders, the chile relleno and burger respectively. I think my daughter got a burrito too but I'm blanking on that right now. I'd say midway through my burrito, I was wishing I had made mine a wet burrito. I also felt like it was missing something. Typically my gripe is that it's too spicy. This time I think i would have liked the flavor to be more pronounced. Still a good burrito but I've had better. My wife though, she loved her chile relleno. She said it was the best she's ever had. She lifted up one side to show me all the cheese in it. I don't like chile relleno, so I'm guessing lots of cheese is a good thing. My oldest loved his chilequiles. He said he went with the red because they would be spicier than the green. I might have to learn to make red chilequiles for him in the future. He's a growing teen so I'm not surprised he completely cleaned his plate. Whatever my daughter got, I remember she said she liked it. She ate it all up too. We all were surprised at the size of my sons burger. I guess it's somewhat expected because there was no children's option. Therefore, he had to order it from the regular menu. While I'm on the subject, our server told us the May Day Burger is one of her favorites. It did look good but I don't do spicy. The steak fries that came with his plate were beer battered and very crispy. It felt wrong on some levels that we didn't pack them up and take them home when we left. Looking back at something my wife said, Yelp has it right where it places Mexican after breakfast, brunch and burgers. Don't expect chips and salsa when you sit. If there was something Flight Line or the city could do to add to the appeal, it would be to set up a small viewing area. Most of the people who came to eat, before leaving, they went over to the gate to get a closer look of the runway and the nearby planes. But I think it would be cool to add a mini tour of the airport if it was done on a limited basis and prearranged. Ever wish you could step back in time and walk into a vintage 'era' ? With Fresno's (best kept secret) FLIGHT LINE, you CAN! Immerse yourself in the 'Art Deco' period of America 1929. That is the year this fabulous café/airport waiting room/flight buildings, were built. In the café, they have an 'old school' counter to dine at along with two other rooms, with windows that face the arriving and departing aircraft. We saw a helicopter land, and several planes while we were there. Awesome! No music pumped in, like the old days, just the peaceful sound of contented conversation. Do check out the vintage waiting room that is clean, polished and sleek. The food quality is good. We had the ABC omelette and vegetable omelette, both that were topped with a type of enchilada sauce that made it tasty! You can have beans and tortillas as a choice with your breakfast. The beans taste homemade and are good also. Service is slow, so go when you have time to enjoy it. ;) It was peaceful, nostalgic and makes you feel like you are in a time warp. I would say it is an 'experience'. So much so, that I HAD to take a friend of mine there a few days later. . . She experienced the same feeling as I did. . . I believe you would too. I came here before it became a Mexican breakfast restaurant. It used to be Chinese food restaurant and it was okay. However, ever since it became American and Mexican breakfast, it is always packed. I pass by the restaurant very often since it is very close to my house and the parking lot is always full. My family and I went this morning at around 8am and it was not packed at all, there were only two other families there. I mean I understand it was still pretty early. By the time we left, it was about 9:15am, and the place was packed. It is nice and cozy inside. All the staff is nice and is willing to answer any questions you might have about their menu items. The restaurant itself sits in the middle of an older airport from Fresno. The view is incredible. There are big windows which allow you to watch as planes take off or admire the aircrafts. This is one the things I loved most about this place. The inside of the restaurant is cozy and gives off a warm and positive vibe. I was hesitant on ordering the chilaquiles because I have had very bad experiences with chilaquiles at restaurants before. I come from an authentic Mexican background, so I know how chilaquiles should look and taste. So, I asked the waitress if the tortillas chips they used were the ones used for nachos because it that were the case then I would've passed because chilaquiles should be made from home-made tortillas chips not bagged-chips. The waitress was kind enough to explain to me that the chilaquiles were made from home-made tortillas, so I decide do give them a shot. They were good, nothing over the top. However, they were not as bad as other chilaquiles I've had before. I could tell that yellow maíz tortillas were used, which gave them a different taste than I'm used too. Overall they were good, I recommend them. I had the green chilaquiles, they also have red ones. I also ordered a short-stack of pancakes and they disappointed me. When I saw them they looked really good, but when I tried them, they were very rubbery and fluffy at all. They were very big but they just did not do it for me. For being a breakfast place, they were not very good. I would skip the pancakes if you go. The overall ambience of the place is very nice. Was driving through the Fresno area and came across this place. It's such a quaint little place with a really nice ambiance. The service was very quick and attentive. What a cute cafe. I'd heard about it on and off for a few years, but never made the trip. That changed on Monday when i dropped by with my wife's family. Parking was easy, and the place has an old school charm about it. The old airport is a great spot. Business was good for a Monday at 11 am. Only 2 empty tables. Service was prompt for a busy place, too. I had the Alpha Bravo Charlie omelette, my wife had a cheeseburger, my father in law had eggs with chorizo and beans and rice. Solid diner with a fun concept of being by the small airport. Unfortunately didn't see any planes land or takeoff while we were there but we saw a plane flying overhead as we left. PG&E has electricity shut down in my neighborhood. Perfect timing for breakfast at one of my favorite restaurants. Greetings from my special "sunshine" waitress Brenda always brings warmth to my heart. Rueben prepares a delicious breakfast for the health of the veterans sitting at the front dining counter. This morning is a great day to celebrate with my fellow senior veteran paratrooper whom always graces the presence of the cafe. Talking about current affairs & airplane watching is the best part of the cafe experience. I appreciate all the great staff support including Maria, Yolanda & the kitchen crew. I have no regrets whatsoever about supporting the cafe with invitations to others that desire the hospitality & customer service focus for all to enjoy. However, I was disappointed that the coffee came out cold--it's something that should be checked before being brought to the table, especially if the pot has been sitting for a while. We were a group of three, and unfortunately our meals came out one at a time. By the time the next plate arrived, the first dish was already getting cold or the person had finished eating. With a few improvements in service timing and drink temperature, this place could be even better. But it is understandable that the place is small and 1 cook with a small kitchen. read more

We've been wanting to try this place out, I've seen mixed reviews but this is one place you have to see for yourself to see if it's up your alley. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked through the door. Seems food is made to order so we had time to enjoy a cup of coffee before our plates came out. Great little hidden gem! I have been here once before years ago and mentioned it to my Hubs so we decided to try it for lunch. It has a very small local, friendly feel. We ordered two pancakes, chili verde with eggs, and a crunchy chicken taco. The taco was my favorite out of the items we got. Although it was a little smaller than I expected. The pancakes were huge but lacked flavor and needed extra syrup. The chili verde sauce was too watery for me. The potatoes and beans were seasoned well. Truthfully this place is a lil oasis in the middle of really kind of nowhere. Definitely a 1920's building, so cute with a little history on the walls when you walk to the restroom. I ordered the chili verde and eggs breakfast. I felt the chili verde lack seasoning but the meat was tender so that was good. Today marks the third time I've eaten here in the past month; breakfast twice and lunch once. Food has been fantastic, service is excellent and it's nice to reminisce in and about an area I frequented in the past with my parents way back when, 1960's and 1970's. First time going with my son's for early Mother's Day brunch. Experience was not the best, but I would give it another try. First it took forever for my son to get his breakfast burrito when the rest of us had our food. Then when he finally got it, they made it wrong. My fries tasted like they were under a warmer for some time. Pancakes were a bit toasted, bacon was overcooked/too crispy. The place is right on a small airport, the architecture is awesome. I'm only giving four stars as we were told the wait time was 15 minutes but we waited 40 and by the time we got our food, it had been past an hour.
