    Maxwell feeding freckles the calf!
    Mark G.

We came here at the beginning of winter break for a day trip farm experience for the kiddies and it was really great! The whole experience was about 2 hours and our ranch hand Deanne was super friendly and great with the kids and animals. All the kids were able to get a turn milking the goats and took pics the animals, it was s very personalized experience. Maxwell even got to feed and walk Freckles. We even got to drink the goat milk that we milked (super delish BTW). We didn't do the overnight stay but saw the house and it's huge and adorable! It's definitely something we'd be interested to do with a bigger party. Serina is also a fantastic host. I can't wait to see all of their plans come to life!

If your kids love animals, definitely bring them to Flip Flop Ranch! We found this spot from our Airbnb cabin in Big Bear and booked the "Meet and Milk the Goat" tour. Our children (age 3 and 9) absolutely loved meeting and feeding the pigs, horses, cows, sheep and goats. Our tour guide, Serena, was delightful and knowledgeable. The animals were happy and well cared for. We look forward to coming back on our next winter trip to the mountains.

My husband and I (at the last-minute) bought tickets for the morning goat-milking and farm tour, as well as the afternoon mozzarella cheese making class with Serina. It was truly a special experience. Serina's family owns the farm, and her knowledge, passion and expertise is rewarding in and of itself. She is super-pleasant, accommodating and happy to take in the experiences with you. It's a welcome change from the hustle and bustle. We got a tour of the immediate property, including time with all of the animals, and were able to feed most of them. We were lucky enough to spend time with baby goats that had been born the afternoon before! And we got a one on one lesson on how to milk the goats; we used that milk in our coffee, that was also served with homemade pie and muffins after the tour. After that, we went through the process of making fresh mozzarella cheese from scratch. I don't think I would have gotten this right on my own, but now I feel confidant I can go home and teach others! We'll be back and we'll be bringing friends! Thanks so much for a wonderful day, Serina.

    So mad

If I can put zero stars I honestly would because it was the worst. Serina was the worst host I ever experienced and was really racist and intrusive with our space she also entered our rented space during our stay and touched our belongs and threw all of our food away

The people running this place are the salt of the earth. Considering how hard it is to run a farm, I'm amazed they have tons of energy left to deal with visiting guests. Our room was clean and the experience was a positive one for my 4 year old, who learned to hold kittens and also feed livestock. This is not a fancy hotel but a very_ basic_ farm with ongoing renovations taking place. Also, there are many small dogs all over the place, including the house. I love dogs so I enjoyed it. The sunsets were amazing and I loved that the 108 degree heat had a positive side to it: no fleas. It's too hot for fleas here. They have a nice saltwater pool to keep cool during the hot day. The fresh raw goat milk was an unexpected delight. I look forward to returning for more visits.

Flip Flop Ranch is a little off the beaten path but definitely worth checking out. The Harvey's have done a fabulous job with their farm in transforming it into that perfect wedding and event setting. The barn is such a beautiful setting and they have a great guest house available for the bride's room for the day or the weekend. Serina and Lisa are great to work with and are so accommodating with your ideas and needs to make your special day remberable

What an amazing mini-vacation this was! My family (including our three- and six-year-old kids) spent two nights at the farm, and it was a perfect change of pace. It was so refreshing to hear the boys asking to go outside instead of to play with video games! Everywhere you looked there were kittens, ready to play or have a snuggle, and other baby (and adult) animals were in abundance. I found it particularly therapeutic to cuddle up with the baby goats, who could pass for lap dogs. Each morning and evening we were invited to go on the rounds to help feed the various animals (including goats, sheep, horses, pigs, ducks, turkeys, chickens, geese, cows...I hope I'm not leaving anyone out!) and to help milk the goats and collect eggs from the chickens. We, along with the other guests, were treated to family-style breakfasts and dinners, which included those eggs and freshly made butter. My husband helped dig the new fire pit, and the last night we enjoyed a bonfire while the kids helped turn the crank on the old-school ice cream maker, all under a star-filled sky. Since we were there during a summer heat wave (100+ degree temperatures during the day), we took advantage of things like the swimming pool and the rec room inside the air-conditioned house, which had a pool table, foosball, and air hockey. We will absolutely be returning, and hopefully bringing friends and family with us, as the change of pace and diving headfirst into learning a new lifestyle were a grand adventure that we look forward to sharing with others. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, this is a perfect opportunity to try something new... and who knows, you may find yourself like me, dreaming of having your own little farm someday!

This place is awesome! I highly recommend it as a day trip for people with children, especially if you live in the LA area. It was about a two hour drive, and I have a 5 year old and 1 year old, but they hung in there and didn't start to complain until the last 15 minutes of the drive. Once we arrived, it was like being in a different world. We were given a tour of the farm, which in my opinion was enjoyable and reasonably priced. The kids got to meet all of the animals, milk the goats, pet ponies, feed a baby cow, and collect eggs from the chickens. I took lots of pictures and the whole thing was super cute. After the tour, we were invited inside to wash up and change our clothes and were given coffee and a snack. I feel like these ladies went above and beyond to give us a great experience. The whole time, I felt like my children were free and able to roam. It felt safer than walking down a sidewalk in Los Angeles. My friend came with us for a tour and she has a disability and walks with a cane. We were a little nervous that she might not be able to walk around for the entire tour, but honestly, everything on the farm is pretty close together and it wasn't a lot of walking. She was able to participate in everything. We were very pleased. I can't recommend this place highly enough. It is worth the drive and you will be happy you visited. The next time you want to branch out and have your children experience something different other than the typical indoor playgrounds and amusement parks, give the Flip Flop Ranch a go. Good places to eat lunch nearby, as well. They also have an AirBnB if you want to stay at the farmhouse, which we might try again at a later date. But even as a day trip, we all had a great time.

What a gem this place is! Run by women in flip-flops, this ranch has legitimately earned its name. This is truly a fun place to learn what farm-to-table really is. From the early morning Cockadoodle-Doo, to the sunset fire with S'mores, I learned what working a farm was about. Feeding and watering animals, shearing sheep and prepping the wool, gathering eggs, mucking pens, and milking Midnight the Goat are just a few of the unique-to-the-country chores to participate in. One can also learn how to make cheese from Midnight's milk, weave bracelets from the wool and participate in keeping track of the incubation process for the birds. I was fortunate enough to watch a gosling pip out of her shell (who was properly named "Rosie") and even found a peacock egg in the barn. I've been there many times, so I've experienced bloodhound pups whelped, baby goats born and yes, even experienced the loss of one or two animals. Such is the circle of life on a farm! The guesthouse accommodations are spacious and comfortable, with a full kitchen, full baths, and a lovely view. The ladies are all warm and welcoming, as well as a wealth of knowledge. There's so much more to mention about this ranch that has something for everyone of all ages, so make your reservation today! By the way, it's a great place to bring classrooms to visit on a day trip. I've since moved away, and think about the ranch often. I miss it!

We have been to 123 Farm before, and while it remains a visually stunning place, our recent…read moreSaturday visit left us feeling that the event has gotten much more expensive while losing some of its original natural charm and value. The Good: Parking Logistics: The parking lot has been moved closer to the flower fields this year, which is a massive upgrade in convenience compared to previous years. The Atmosphere & Maze: The farm decorations are beautiful, especially the purple cloths hung between the rows of large trees that catch the wind. Our kids also thoroughly enjoyed the Lavender Pallet Maze. It features a fun True/False lavender trivia game inside that kept our son engaged enough to want to do it twice. The Petting Zoo: The animals were quite active (bunnies, a Polish chicken, goats, and a very soft alpaca). It's a nice stop for kids, though parents of timid children should watch out as the little goats can be a bit pushy! The Disappointing: Over-Commercialization: There are massive lighting setups in the flower fields now. It feels like there is too much human intervention, and the lavender didn't look as healthy or vibrant as it did during our first visit. Additionally, most of the fields were already harvested and cut flat. I don't think there will be much of bloom later in the month. Food & Pricing Downgrades: We ordered the Lavender Smash Burger and Lavender Carne Asada Fries. The burger patty was overly salty and the fries lacked crispiness. Two years ago, the specialty drinks (Strawberry Lavender Lemonade and Iced Tea) came with a fresh sprig of lavender. This year, there was no garnish at all. The prices have gone up, but the experience feels stripped down. The "No Water" Policy: The farm is incredibly dry and dusty. Selling lemonade here must be an absolute goldmine because they do not provide water. When my husband went around to the stands to ask for water or extra ice cups, he was told no stand has water, and a cashier literally rolled her eyes at him. Word of advice: Bring plenty of your own water and leave it in the car! The "Free" Kids' Craft: The advertised free craft was a huge letdown. It was just basic coloring pages on postcards with zero staff guidance. The actual interactive crafts require an extra fee, which felt cheap considering the high price of admission. The nearby games were also poorly maintained--the foosball table was so old and broken that it used a ping-pong ball that the soccer men couldn't even hit. Tips for Parents: Check the daily schedule carefully before lounging around! We mistakenly thought crafts started in the evening, but weekend activities actually start at 1:00 PM. Overall, it's still a decent day trip for photos, but bring your own hydration, manage your expectations on the food, and be prepared for a very commercialized experience.

Most of the animals are nocturnal, so many of them were sleeping or not very active during the day. It made it really hard to enjoy or see much happening. I feel like you see more local wildlife rather than anything exciting or unique. They have a snack shop located right across from the kids' playground, with the restrooms and gift shop conveniently nearby. I respect that they focus on rehabilitation and rescue. It's clean, easy to walk through, and probably a good educational stop for kids.

Admission was only $6 per person, and children under 2 are free, which makes it an affordable outing for families. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. They answered our questions and gave us information about the farm. The barn is on the smaller side, but there were still plenty of animals to see, including ponies, goats, chickens, and sheep. Outside, we also saw a turkey, horses, cows, and a pig. We visited around 11:30 a.m. on a Friday, and at one point we had the entire barn to ourselves, which made it especially enjoyable with our little one. Storytime for little ones is offered on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. After visiting the animals, we explored the produce market and were impressed by the variety. They had fresh fruits and vegetables, delicious pastries, breads, jams, and lots of other tasty snacks to browse. If it's your first visit, I'd recommend going during one of their scheduled activities so you can experience the tractor ride as well. There was plenty of parking, and I appreciated that they had a changing table available for babies and toddlers, which made the visit even more family-friendly. Sadly, this was not a positive experience for my family…read more We participated in the one-hour trail ride and, upon returning to the stables, our guide specifically warned riders about the new horses located on the right side of the dismount area. My 12-year-old daughter is an experienced rider and followed the staff's instructions exactly. She waited until she was prompted to enter the designated dismount area, as directed by the staff. Unfortunately, following those instructions placed her directly adjacent to the horses that had been identified as a concern. As she entered the dismount area, one of the horses reached through the fence and bit her on the right thigh. The bite was severe enough that an attendant had to intervene to get the horse to release her. I immediately took my daughter to the restroom to assess the injury and document it with photographs. The bite occurred through her long pants. While I understand that horses are animals and that unpredictable situations can occur, I was disappointed by both the circumstances that led to the incident and the way it was handled afterward. My daughter followed the instructions she was given, yet the responsibility for the incident was ultimately placed on her. Given the prior warning about the horses, it is difficult to understand why riders were still being directed into such close proximity to them. Equally concerning was the lack of follow-up from management. The owner did not speak with us at the time of the incident, did not proactively reach out afterward, and only returned our call after multiple attempts and a more urgent message. Rather than expressing concern or discussing a reasonable resolution, the conversation was argumentative and dismissive. Accidents can happen, and a sincere apology along with an effort to address the situation would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. Between the safety concerns and the poor customer service that followed, I cannot recommend this business to others.

Also: 1. For those complaining about not being able to use their phone on a rental trail ride, it's common sense, if you accidentally drop your phone, it holds up the trail line while the trail guide has to retrieve it for you ( not allowed to get on and off a rental horse)!, it may get broken (and who's fault is that?), stopping to click several photos slows down the timed ride for everyone, and when it falls it may spook the horse. 2. So you want to trot, lope or Gallup? Not on these mountain trails with a horse you aren't familiar , with totally inexperienced riders as well as seasoned riders, and children. Just because YOU think you are an experienced RIDER doesn't matter. These are not your horses. This is a business and safety for all comes first along with protecting the horse's safety. A lame horse cannot be ridden and that is costing vet bills as well as a loss of $65. - I'm a very experienced, seasoned rider.and previous horse owner.
