This place is a bit on the pricey side for the service we got. When you arrive depending on the day you have to wait to be seated, I like that they take your number down to call you when it's your turn. It's a cramp spot that gets packed very quickly. There is a massive beautiful salt water fish tank very beautifully maintained we didn't get lucky enough to sit close to it but it's a nice little addition to the decoration. Upon being seated we were given menus that clearly were not cleaned off, it had what looked like butter or some sort of food (I hope) we told the staff and they just ignored us. We proceeded to order drinks and food. We ordered 2 zombies and 1 strawberry daiquiri. 1 of the zombie drink tasted like just pure rubbing alcohol the other 2 drinks were fine. We order to eat the pestos spaghetti with garlic chicken and 2 Lomo Saltado and a side order of maduros. My first time visiting this location as i have always gone to the other location at Amsterdam Avenue. This location is somewhat similar to the other location but maybe slightly more runned down compared to the other location. Staff was friendly and food was good as always. My only complaint is that the bathroom appeared very dirty during the time of visit. Wet and sticky floors, toilet paper and paper towels were out, i had to flag down a staff to get them to refill the bathroom. Indoor also felt very warm in temperature, no there was not enough air circulation or vents. We ate outside since the weather was nice. Other than that no other complaints! Flor de Mayo is a SUPER popular choice in this neighborhood. It's very much a... well, the clientelle is a lot of familys, especially on the weekends. As such, there's a good chance there will be small children here, so get ready for some noisy dining. The food here is great. Last time, I don't think I really maximized my visit, since I only came with one other person- if we had brought more people, we could have done more sharing, which is what a lot of people here do. I got the mofongo, and my friend got the steak set, which came with rice. The mofongo for me was a little dry at first, since they forgot to bring out the sauce. Flor de Mayo is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan. The concept of a Chinese + Peruvian restaurant is still a bit bizarre to me, but somehow everything just works. Obviously lots of other people agree cause the wait here is always super long and out the door. Tuesdays are apparently their emptiest nights, so consider stopping by then if you don't want to wait. I highly recommend trying out the half chicken with fried rice (their most popular dish it seems like), the squid fried rice, or the lomo saltado. My personal favorite is the lomo saltado. The beef is super flavorful, tender, and works so well with the fries and veggies that it's stir fried in. You have the option to choose white, yellow, or fried rice. Highly suggest the fried rice pairing! As for drinks, I would recommend the Super Nutcracker or Nutcracker if you are feeling brave (or want to get really drunk). For those who just want a yummy drink without getting too buzzed, the red sangria or the pink lemonade is the way to go. We ordered the chinese squad fried rice and lomo saltado, per all the recommendations on Yelp. Both items came very quickly and definitely did not disappoint! Both plates were big, definitely meant for sharing as most chinese restaurants tend to do family style portions. The chinese squid fried rice was slightly on the oily side, but not too bad as most Peruvian cuisine tend to be oily to begin with. The lomo saltado was just as I had expected too, it was fantastic! The red onions were a bit sour, which added an interesting twist to the dish. However, I do wish the beef was a bit more tender, as they seemed to have overcooked it. The Peruvian chicken (Pollo a la Brasa) is a must for all New Yorkers, imo. Don't do Chinese when you are here, try their Spanish-influenced stuff. The service is decent, everyone is friendly and attentive. I never have any issue with their service here even when I am only doing take-out. I only discount one star because the space here is a disaster. They had gone through some renovation some ten plus years ago but the space is still so miserable. You enter the restaurant with these low steps up that are meant to trip people? And at any given time there are always these delivery men kind of just hanging out by the entrance. But after a little research, (a quick search on the internet), it turns out there's been a Chinese community in Latin America for quite some time. So I guess it's no wonder the food culture is interspersed. The restaurant was super busy and crowded on a Friday at about 10pm. There was barely any room to stand while we waited for a table. Luckily, we only had to wait a few minutes. There is a cute little bar by the door that seats about half a dozen people in a pinch. Food was good. The atmosphere was... indescribable. You have to be there to know what I'm talking about. It is definitely loud. I could clearly hear some colorful and entertaining conversations. Nutcracker ($11) - very sweet cocktail. To my indiscernible tongue, it tastes like an AMF with grenadine. The other drinks looked pretty festive too. Lomo Saltado ($15) - sliced steak sauteed with potatoes, tomato, & onion over rice: The steak was a little tough. I could taste a hint of soy sauce in the sauce. I liked the sauteed potato strips. They were thinly sliced and just cooked through and covered in whatever sauce the steak was cooked in. Definitely not crunchy though. The yellow rice is okay, but I couldn't detect much flavor out of the rice. Is it supposed to be saffron rice? Pollo a la Brasa ($12.25) - Half Chicken with Fried Rice: This is quite a large plate. Some pieces of chicken were dry. The legs were cooked perfectly. Even though I ate them last, they were still juicy. I didn't care for the small ramekin of sauce. The fried rice was not bad. I don't know what the pile of iceberg lettuce was for. It seemed like a waste of space. Otherwise, the food was pretty decent. I'd give it about a 3.5. read more

The Peruvian chicken here came out moist and juicy. The skin was seasoned with a bit of cumin. Good, but not up to par with pio pio. We also ordered the pepper steak. aighhhhhht! lemme be real, real quick. I've never ate at a chino/spanish restaurant before and luckily for me I was watching some sort of netflix or vice documentary on these type of restaurants which had me craving to try one. We ordered so much! - Loma Saltado - Broiled Pork Chops - Squid Ink Fried Rice - Fried Plantain - Ceviche - and the famous rotisserie chicken everything was delicious! The steak was super tender. The porkchops were juicy AF! The squid ink fried rice is a mixture between chinese friend rice and haitian black rice (which is friggggggin amazing). The chicken was so good too.. and usually i never order chicken at restaurants because i always feel like its going to end up being dry.. but not this one, perfect like god intended. DO try their famous Nutcracker drink! Strong and yummy. They also make it in a frozen version (nutty colada) and supersize (double the alcohol, not size). Ooooh be cateful of that one! It will definitely get you nice and twisted! The staff here are overall great. Once in a while, if it's extremely busy, they rush you, which I don't care for. My go-to dish has always been their ropa vieja, but I have always heard so much about how amazing their Lomo Saltado is. I typically come here for lunch and my two favorite dishes are: Seco de Res and Lomo Saltado. Seco de Res is a cilantro beef stew. If you're not a cilantro fan then steer clear of this one because the sauce is packed full of the herb. The beef is wonderfully tender and juicy. They serve this over your choice of rice (yellow or white). It's the perfect dish to pair with rice. Lomo Saltado is a Peruvian staple - french fries, steak, tomatoes, red onions and parsley. The steak is marinated with vinegar and a dash of soy sauce and spices. It's so great and even a person who has never tasted Peruvian food would probably love this dish.
