Came here to celebrate a closing and it was a very New York place to go. We got there at 11:20 but they didn't open until 11:30 so they let us come in and sit in the dark for 10 minutes. They turned on the lights and we waited at our table to be served to find out you have to go to the counter to order. Not the best customer service I've ever had but like I mentioned, this place was very New Yorkish! The only menu I saw was in small print on the wall so luckily I don't need glasses anymore... They have a lunch special that comes with 2 slices of pizza and a drink for $5. Very reasonably priced but I opted for their world famous cold Italian. It was better than subway but covered in onions (if I could read the small small print I would have been able to see) so not the best I've ever had when it comes to a sandwich. My clients really enjoyed their salad (also covered in onions) and calzone which is why I gave it 4 instead of 3 stars. read more

They have in my opinion the best Italian sub in the city. Family is from New Jersey and that's the attitude you should expect. So many people say they love this place but I can't say the same! :-( I've had their Italian sandwich numerous times (my former co-worker would always bring them to me) and that really was my favorite part of the meal! The bread on the sandwich has a great crunch and texture but the meats/cheese create a nice soft contrast to the bread. The vinegar dressing makes it delicious! 4 of us ordered a large mix topping pizza. The pizza tasted fine but the crust wasn't as crispy as I would like it. Nothing bad, but nothing great either. We got there at 12:45 p.m. on a Saturday but they don't open until 1 p.m. on Saturdays! By the time we got to order, there was a line forming behind us! It'd been over 10 years since I have eaten Florio's pizza. I used to live in the apartments near Florio's when I was in my very early twenties and now I am close to my 40's. I ate Florio's quite a bit and fell in love with the family who owned it, the way they made their pizza, and I've never had pizza like theirs since. Their Jersey NY style pizza is the best to me. I've had a lot of high end boujee pizza, hole in the wall pizza, and even authentic pizza in Italy (yes it was so good but way different than you think), even pizza in Chicago at the original Uno Pizzeria. Florio's is still the best to me. It's not the healthiest and it's not the fanciest. It's just flavorfully good and the crust is awesome. I like thin pizza with minimal sauce, they make it like that. They are no nonsense in attitude and in pizza. You order your food, no fluff, no crazy menu, and then you get your food. They do have beer and wine and the place is simple. I love the location in Alamo Heights and it's easy to get to. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays and close in the middle of the day Tuesday - Saturday for their own family time like in Italy. Which I love. They have a lunch time and a dinner time. There's no in-between time. Again, a no nonsense family, no nonsense business, and no nonsense food. It's the best. I should mention that their sandwiches are top notch with quality meats and you should stop in for lunch and get one and order one slice of pizza too. If you are a napkin blotter for grease on top of your pizza and that bothers you, then don't eat here. It's not over the top greasy, but it's not some healthy pizza either. We told the owner that we wanted crispy pizza and extra sauce on the pizza, but instead what we got was a flimsy pie crust that was barely baked. On top of that, there was very little sauce and it tasted like something bought on a grocery store shelf. I have had my share of bad pizza, but this really takes the cake. Honestly, Little Caesars or Pizza Hut were a 100 TIMES better! The person at the counter was very rude too. I asked for extra marinara sauce, and he said they did not have any after we received our pizza. This was like the Debbie Downer experience on steroids. Do not go here! On top of that, it is in Alamo Heights, so you think it would be at least good. Be wary, do not go here.... Value your time and money and go elsewhere. read more

I hope that you know they have amazing italian sub sandwiches. Far better than any other italian sandwich I have had and I am straight out PICKY, about my italian subs. Yeah they use canned mushrooms, so what. It's still good, I tried that pizza alongside a pepperoni and cheese sliced pizza as well. I am going to be returning to try the "hero" sub of which my friend says is the best sub out there. Being from NY, and spending considerable time in the tri-state area, they are on point with their recipe. My second time eating here, my first ever visit i just grabbed 2 slices of pizza of pepperoni and the other with sausage and pepperoni, which turned out to be spot on....Atmosphere makes you feel like your in a Pizza shop you'd find in a NY minute...I lived with my uncle in uptown Manhattan for a few months when i was in HS and i can honestly say pizza from NY/Nj are crazy good... Now as for my second visit i got the Italian Hero and that thing was delicious all the way through... I know everyone has their own style of Pizza n Hoagies depending where your from and i can put it in one of the top 10 list... I did get a pie black olives and mushrooms, it was okay just due to the fact mushrooms were from a can....Sauce was light and perfect, Pie dough was good and crisp.... Staff seems pretty friendly to me i was greeted and talked to with respect. I have been coming here off and on for 20 years, since high school. I guess when I was a kid I didn't mind rude owners as much but as an adult it irks me. The pizza is decent for sure. The owners however always seem like you, the customer, are an imposition. There is always an undercurrent of annoyance when you order. Today, had the busser not reminded me about my drink the owner would have let it sit on the bar until I left. There are too many good pizza spots in the neighborhood to deal with these two grumpy owners anymore. I have never eaten anything other than the pizza so I cannot comment on anything else. I doubt the owners ever read their reviews but they should. I also doubt they even really care. I get that they are from NY or New Jersey but we treat people nicer here. Get with it. I've recently learned about this place because I frequent Hanzo. This is some of the best pizza I've had so far in SA and it's right by my place. The pepperoni and sausage is a lot different than you normally get. Long strips of sausage. It's so good! You can get pizza by the slice- $2.50 which is not only cheap, but good. I don't know about you but as someone single I hate being stuck eating an entire pizza by myself. This place is fast too. I never wait long at all. I also like you can get your pizza half and half. I tried the Cold Italian Hero and it was delicious as well. Definitely going to be part of my cheat meal staple. The staff is great! They have a little bar you can sit at as well. This is the third pizza place in Texas I've reviewed. One in San Marcos, one in Austin, and now this one in San Antonio. But I'll say it again... I'm from Jersey- I know real pizza. THESE people are also from the northeast. You go in there and you better know what you want and not stand there, messing around and wasting their time. I used to live in the area and went to Alamo Heights. Florio's was a favorite lunch spot. We'd try and go once a week. Always felt like I was back home again eating in there. My favorite part of the place is their choice of decor. They've got a wall of police badges from Jersey, New York, Philly (PA, you know), amongst other NE memorabilia. My dad is a retired Camden city cop and gave me his badge to give to them. I gave it to them to add on their wall years ago when I was still in school. Last time I ate there, it was still on the wall. There's not only great pizza, but a passion for food and home. That's family. I've got another badge for you guys from my dad in Jersey.
