Flower Child is a restaurant that some people may not think is for them, as it is very much a health food focused concept. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I would encourage everyone to let go of their preconceived notions and give it a try because it really is a fun restaurant and a cool dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have a number of bowls, salads, and wraps, but they also have a unique entree menu that is fun and helps you customize a meal to your tastes. First you choose your protein. They offer steak, chicken, shrimp, salmon, and tofu, I may be forgetting others but that is the core. I highly recommend the steak, it comes out wonderfully cooked and seasoned and cut into strips. Then you can choose two sides to go with it. They offer things like spicy cauliflower, kale salads, or my personal favorite their gluten free Mac and cheese! Most recently I chose to finish my meal off with a bowl of fruit for my second side, it came with pineapple, melon, and orange slices as well as grapes. The menu is fun and easy to create a meal based on what you're craving. After ordering they give you a number and bring out your meal when it's ready, although a lot of people take their meals to go or call in ahead. The place is usually busy but they manage it well and the service is always top notch from my experience. I never expected to like this place as much as I do but I sure am glad I gave it a shot! read more

First time here and at my age, I am officially an actual Flower Child! The staff, service and food were all top notch. I had the Avocado Turkey Salad. This place is soooo cute. There are lots of options on the menu for those of us who want to eat healthy food. Although the portion sizes are a little smaller, the food will fill you up! Service was also cool (after they hand over your food, you're kind of on your own. But a server will come check on you). PS the sauce on the sweet potatoes was so good read more

This is a chain I frequent for take out. It's consistently reliable and their veggies are delicious. I usually stick to a steak plate, and the Mac and cheese, and rotate a veggie. The space is a little loud with the open kitchen concept so I don't prefer to dine in. Solid take out spot! read more

Nanami went above board in helping me identify what fare is safe for me (as I have many food related sensitivities/allergies) when ordering, and then when the kitchen informed her something was a little different than my order she brought the kitchen employee to me so we could figure out what would be best for me. She pleasantly surprised me when she came to me with a receipt that my meal was refunded due to the extended time it took. I asked her about a dessert and she brought out a binder and showed me the ingredients. Nanami is very knowledgeable of the restaurant and her customer service skills are top notch as well as her kindness and work ethic. I highly recommend this restaurant and Nanami! read more

I love visiting Flower Child for a quick, healthy bite! The cauliflower risotto here is one of my favorites. It's vegan, but has a bit of a cheesy taste to it (guessing from nutritional yeast). I find the sweet potatoes with bok choi to be well seasoned and filling. I'm not normally a pudding person, but I can't pass up the chocolate pudding here. The consistency is so divine! The service here is always great and the food is ready quickly. The decor is super cute as well and I love taking advantage of the patio when weather allows. read more

I ordered the steak entrée with mashed potatoes and asparagus. However, when we picked it up and brought it home, it was not and rice. It was not asparagus. It was totally rice. I called. This was the first time that we had ordered it, and unfortunately, the Ballentyne location did not make it right with us as far as credit to us or giving us any type of further accommodations with it. He said unfortunately, you got what you ordered. So the food was good, but I am very disappointed in the customer service in it and not making it right for our first time customer who said that they would come back because the food was good. This is one of the chains that is absolutely worth visiting! It especially feels good to not have to consciously choose to eat healthy as the whole menu is full of veggies and natural ingredients. My favourites are the forbidden rice, the sweet potato noodles, the kale salad and the cheesy cauliflower. The sangria is also delicious. read more

What a catchy colorful Spring themed spot in the hip south end neighborhood. I loved their veggie & organic forward menu with a focus on healthy yet enticing meals. They also have a pleasing open layout with outdoor seating as well. We tried the Green chile queso, Roasted Sweet potato fries, Mother Earth bowl, Ginger miso crunch salad and the Kombucha. While the food is really wholesome, the taste buds try hard to like it. If they perhaps work to enhance their condiments, the meal would be absolute winner with it becoming delicious & healthy both checked off. Service is nice & on point. Meanwhile I watched several people stroll in, order, and leave with their food in 10‑15minutes. At 7:15pm I gave up, got a refund, and left. UPDATE* Bravo to the manager Johan and the staff. They have done an excellent job with attention to detail with cook time, and overall experience when dining at Flower Child. My previous visit was lacking a bit with the food presentation, and taste. The decor and ambiance was already grade A, I just wanted the meal to match. As you can see from my photos, they knocked it out of the park. I ordered the steak entree again, with two sides (I was told the brussel sprouts were 86'd) but the broccoli are a fitting replacement. The most obvious takeaway is the temperature is on par with what's advertised on the menu...medium cook steak with delicious greens and creamy mac and cheese. I can even tell they pulled back on the salt/seasoning, it's a much more balanced dish. I can't wait to go back, this is truly a master class in service recovery. read more

I came to flower child for lunch with my friend. I'm visiting with her in North Carolina. She picked this restaurant since they had tons of vegan and vegetarian options for me as well as meat options for her. They have a large variety of different foods salad, bowls, combinations, and wraps, you order at the register and they give you a number and you find your seat. They Bring you your food as well as bus your table after. I really enjoyed my mother earth bowl. Honestly, it was delicious. Each component had different flavors. They had two different sauces. However, my favorite sauce was on the sweet potato. It had a little spice, but lots of flavor. I asked for more of the sauce to put on my tofu. I'm very happy that I went there and I was full after. my friend had the chicken noodles and she enjoyed it a lot as well. We are both satisfied and happy and we purchased a cookie to go. We ordered drinks to fill on our own. They had passion fruit , iced tea, mango, iced tea and lemonade. They were all refreshing. I would definitely return here. read more

Flower Child has become my new favorite place. I have drove past this place hundreds of times but never thought to stop by. My husband and I were craving some healthy foods and were tired of our usual spots so decided to try this place out. I ordered the Glow Bowl as is, and my husband ordered an Avocado Caesar Salad with chicken. My glow bowl was absolutely amazing and delicious. I love veggies and this was perfect. Stopped here at lunch time for a quick out of town business meal. Place is definitely busy between 12-1 but they are efficient at handling the crowd. Plenty of options so anyone could find something they like here. New age farmhouse style building with lots of greenery and a great outdoor patio. This place gets a big "yes" from me! This is a review from my last two visits. I absolutely love the atmosphere and the variety in the menu which has a lot to offer. My wife and I come here regularly and tried several items, including the avocado wrap, the miso salad, the mother earth bowl and a gluten free lemon cup. Everything was delicious! Staff is always super friendly and helpful. Flower Child is centrally located in one of Charlotte's trendiest areas. Be aware, parking is a bit of a challenge, so make sure to plan ahead. There is some affordable street parking and a VERY limited shared parkling lot. Overall, 100% recommended. read more

The service was also great; Summer offered a lot of insightful information, which helped me narrow my decision down to a Mother Earth bowl. This bowl contained a variety of textures (e.g. the crunchiness of the cucumbers, the tenderness of the portobello mushrooms) and flavors (e.g. broccoli pesto, red pepper miso vinaigrette), which made every bite exciting. Loved the ambience and layout. Asked ordered to go and told the would text when order was ready waited 15 minutes returned and told it was sitting on the shelf for pickup! Why ask my name and phone number if you don't let the person sitting outside know order is ready? If you want organic and healthy forward I'd give this place a try! They have bowls, salads, wraps and dips or hummus plus sides n interesting drinks like rose petal lemonade On our first visit we both got the Mother Earth bowl loaded with sweet potatoes mushrooms avocado and other goodies and you can add a protein so we opted for tofu! We also ordered what they call their avocado hummus (it's nothing but guac lol) but they top it with pumpkin seeds n lil orange segments served with pita wedges! We also tried their olive oil lemon cake - but let's call it what it really is which is a muffin lol either way it's tasty. The location offers street parking and a patio in addition to eclectic seating inside. We found the staff helpful and their suggestions were spot on. The food was also disappointing. It was much saltier than we remembered, and we never received the Caesar salad with steak we ordered. To the staff's credit, it wasn't on our bill, so we didn't mention it. Overall, no one was rude, but the attention to detail, professionalism, and overall experience that earned our previous five-star reviews just wasn't there this time. We're hoping this was simply an off day because we genuinely loved this place and would like to see it return to the high standard that made us regular customers.

Delighted to note that the French onion soup is as delicious as ever, with a richly flavored broth and a generous amount of bread and cheese baked in. While the quality hasn't diminished, thank heavens, the size has gone from a bowl to a cup. As it was my upcharged side I didn't mind terribly but still. Alas. Kudos to the kitchen for letting me have my soup before my sandwich was delivered, but here is where things went a little south. I had ordered The Usual, one of their trademark dishes, a hot open-faced chicken salad sandwich on a baguette topped with asparagus, mushrooms and cheese. It too has been the victim of shrinkflation, about 2/3 as big as once it was. Again, didn't mind terribly much but the toppings themselves were scant: three small strips of jarred or canned asparagus, four slices of mushroom. Okay, everything is expensive these days, but the edges of the sandwich were burned and the filling was cool, meaning the salamander setting was off and no one checked it before sending it out or putting it down. I might have considered sending it back but that's when my server disappeared. My water glass sat empty for half my meal and was never refilled. Even paying the check was sluggish. She just plainly said would you like to have three scallops added to your meal or a lobster tail now I understand that there are many people that would go in and not have a problem with the price however, it should be stated how much the up charge is going to be and it should be in writing on the menu because we looked back on the menu and there was not a price for up charge on the scallops . My friend was not happy with the service nor the cost of the scallops . The manager did not really know how to handle the situation but because I invited everyone I wanted to make it right and I asked to pay part of her bill and of course my friend denied and said it'd be best. If we just not come back she said the food wasn't bad the food was actually good however, the waitress was definitely not as friendly focused as she should have been and not willing to help make our experience the best I will say the manager should have been able to accommodate her request and move forward and be kind and understand her point. I will be back and I would love for my friends to come back. The ambiance was very nice and the drinks and food were good as well. Please note the manager at the end gave us a $10 coupon for next visit but our friends were not happy with the outcome. It was simply lack of communication and more openness regarding the charges of up selling and the price is not on the menu. Given the price and reputation from my past experiences, I was expecting top tier service, food, and ambience with a quality of fish second to none in the area. Let's break it down: We had a table of 3 and each ordered the signature tasting ($60 pp, a drink, and 2 extra items (one tuna roll and the Australian wagyu hot rock, ~$20 each) 1. Service Our waitress was kind and professional, but the overall cohesion of the staff seemed off and the wait times between courses was sporadic and often too long. It took about 30 minutes from ordering to get our first course which was... a salad wrap. Not only did this seem way too long, but it was extremely underwhelming for a top tier tasting menu experience (will come back to this in the food section). After that, some courses came out overlapping each other, and some were 10-15 min apart. This made it feel less like a fine dining tasting experience and more disorganized. On top of that, the server bringing the food to the table would explain each course in a rush and we could not hear them, meaning we did not know much about each dish. Lastly, our water was consistently empty and previous corse dishes were left on the table when new ones were served, which is a minor thing but should be standard at a fine dining restaurant. Knowing how blown away I was in Austin by the original restaurant, the overall service left me feeling disappointed in bringing my friends and hyping up the place for such an expensive meal. 2. Food Our tasting menu consisted of 7 courses including a salad wrap, tuna hamachi (cold), a sea bream role, ponzu glazed salmon (hot), 2 pieces of nigiri per person, brussel sprouts, and a dessert. Having 2 of 6 core dishes be a salad and veggie at a renowned seafood restaurant was disappointing, and these did not blow me a way at all and were average at best (salad was uninteresting, brussels were cold and too saucy). The sea bream role was also just average, but the tuna hamachi, salmon, and nigiri were excellent. I felt that the portion size was small for 3 people, it was marginally bigger than a 2 person tasting and that was also slightly disappointing. We each got to choose our own dessert which was nice and included a guava and banana cake which were excellent but much too big compared to the portions of the core dishes. We also ordered the additional tuna crunchy roll and hot rock wagyu which were excellent, and a much better value than the tasting portions. Overall, the food was still good, but I distinctly remember the few times I went to the Austin restaurant being absolutely blown away by the food quality, uniqueness, and menu selection, which was not the case here. I hope this improves in the future. 3. Ambience The adaptive reuse space was awesome and the look of the place is stellar. I loved how much seating and bar space there was and the overall lighting and mood was great. The only complaint I have here is that it was very loud making it hard to hear servers and each other over conversation. No one wants to be shouting over the ambient noise when paying $100+ for a meal. For context, we are late 20s, we are not shy to louder bars and restaurants, this was especially noisy. In general, I believe this place has a ton of potential and I really hope it improves in quality and value before I come back again. At present, I would not recommend the tasting menu and instead opt for individual dishes.

Parking was difficult, and I found the pricing excessive--adding five shrimp to a dish cost nearly half the price of the plate itself. As someone who grew up around incredible seafood in the Bay Area -- places like Sam's Chowder House and New England Fish Company -- my expectations were naturally a little high. When you're close to the coast, the bar for seafood is set pretty high. That said, this is a very simple, fast-casual seafood concept, and they execute that model consistently. I've now visited a few locations -- one in Huntersville, one that used to be in South End on Worthington, and this Uptown location on Tryon -- and they all share the same strengths: * Clean, well-organized spaces * Nice outdoor seating * Convenient locations in walkable, high-traffic areas * Fast, efficient service The menu is straightforward but flexible. You can build your meal in a lot of different ways -- dress it up, keep it light, or customize it to your taste -- which is a big plus. Food-wise, it's good... just not memorable. The lobster roll, for me, was a little on the greasy side. I tend to prefer a lighter preparation. The tacos, on the other hand, were a better fit -- fresh, flavorful, and a bit easier to enjoy. Overall, the food is solid, but it hasn't quite become my first choice when I'm craving seafood. Value-wise, prices are reasonable for the concept, and the experience is reliable. It's a dependable option when you're downtown, short on time, or looking for a quick seafood fix. Bottom line: Clean, convenient, and consistent -- but not destination dining for me. It was dark and intense. I moved to the main dining area nestled in the corner. The windows were massive and let in copious amount of light and heat too, apparently. It was clean open and airy. Visual vibes of two distinct atmospheres. We tried the Meatballs and Wood-fired shishito peppers, with lemon tahini to start. The meatballs were moist but not seasoned. Definitely, prepackaged but had a beautiful display. The sauce was tart and seasoned but not overpowering or runny. I liked that. The ricotta allowed a richness to blend in each bite. I loved the visual. Unfortunately, I bit into foil or pan. I let the staff know and they replaced the dish. I tried the wood-fired Shishito peppers, with lemon tahini assuming they were spice or tart and they were neither. It was a large portion of peppers perfectly seared providing an aromatic invigorating experience. The tahini paired perfectly giving great flavor to a very subtle vegetable. I was pleasantly surprised. The Carolina Special was surprisingly good. I'm a default pepp girl but my friend only eats chicken. The 800º signature sweet & spicy base was good and sweet, and peppers gave a little spice. I was expecting vinegar based sauce but it wasn't tart at all. Ample chicken strung throughout each bite was amazing with a bit of sweet onion in every perfect bite. I got a cookie for my trouble. Which was a nice gesture. The ice cream was vanilla bean as I could see each dot but had no flavor as was the cookie. However, we ate each bite. So, there's that. Minus the foil hiccup the meal was pretty great. Even my PYT was strong and vibrant. My server was sweet. Very dedicated and efficient. Gave great customer service.
