*Dinner Review* I think I didn't have high expectations for this place before dining in so after this meal, I was impressed but still think this place has really good potential as it seems like a newer restaurant in the Napili market shopping complex. We could tell our waitress was new but she was very friendly and attentive during our visit. We started with a bento box which has 4 different dishes that rotate in. Off the top of my head, there was some type of ahi poke, meatballs, and shrimp California roll. It's a good dish to start with and share. My dish was the sirloin with garlic rice. A tip is to ask for the sirloin one step below what you usually order your meat as it comes out on a sizzling pan so it still is cooking while you're eating your meal. My medium sirloin was pretty much medium well/well done so next time I would have ordered medium rare. The mahi mahi (fish special) was a generous portion that came over a bed of salad. The pasta with beef ragu was also tasty with a generous portion of sale Pepe pasta. Overall I wouldn't mind coming back, either Wednesday night on fried chicken night (which I heard is worth trying!) or for brunch. read more

We arrived for an early dinner at 4:00. The place was almost empty so we pretty much had our own waitress. She did a great job but was also helpful with questions about our stay on Maui. Very pleasant young lady. My wife had the garlic shrimp bento box and thought it was fantastic. Seasoned to perfection. I got the sea food tsunami and it was delicious. We found this restaurant last year, just after the Lahaina fire. We didn't find it because it was a restaurant, but because they had offered the facility up for the operation we volunteered with to help for food preparation. Since they were committed to helping the community, when we came back in 2024, we wanted to support the business. We were happy to support them of course, but on top of that the food was downright delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. My wife and I shared the Slaw Motion starter, and then had the Seared Catch and the Panko Chicken & Kale dish. Come here, the service and the food is worth the trip! read more

Tucked away in an unassuming shopping plaza is this little gem, Fond. Interiors exude an urban cool vibe. The menu has a lot of savory eats to offer. Potato wedges had a great balance of savory and salty, with its home pickled tomatoes, sweet onions, crispy thick bacon bits, cheese and more. Burgers were insanely juicy and flavorful. The achara sauce on the Flippin Out burger gave a juicy zing. The Crispy Chicken bento featured the crispiest fried chicken. I could have taken a bag full of just the crispy chicken. We found this treasure after leaving the crowds at the Whaler's Village - just come straight here for delicious food and great service! We were relieved to find this relatively quiet, Asian fusion spot, and sat at the bar which allowed space between us and others. I loved my Caesar salad, and enjoyed the special appetizer of yellowtail sashimi - the pickles were so good! My daughter had the catch of the day which she loved! Very flavorful and cooked just right, with lovely veggies enhancing it. (Thoughtful keiki/children's menu too) Service was attentive and sweet. Had an excellent lunch at Fond. They have 2 TV's to watch sports if you're into that. I had the chicken sandwich which was nothing short of amazon. The chicken was moist and the fry was perfectly crispy. The coleslaw was really fresh and the flavors were great. I got the sauce on the side and they delightedly brought out multiple sauces to try. I opted for the garlic Aoli over the hot sauce. (Personal preference) We also got the tater tots which were probably the best tots I've ever had. Super crispy and tasty. There have been a few failed restaurants here, but we really want this one to make it. It certainly deserves a visit. We will be back for sure! All the servers are super friendly and nice. We had an amazing birthday dinner at Fond. The food was good and unique. My two friends both had dietary restraints and the managed them with ease. I will start off with the positive things about this place. The service and ambience was very good and honestly the lunch prices were cheap given all the price raises recently. However with this cheap price the food portions were incredibly small. My family ordered the hamburger steak bento, garlic shrimp bento, seared catch bento, and Caesar salad. I really don't eat a lot but I was still hungry after eating my meal. The food was also incredibly salty. Overall not a terrible experience, but I would not come again or recommend. read more

We were absolutely blown away from start to finish with the Chef's Counter Experience at Fond. We're from LA and we were staying at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua for our babymoon - Fond is an easy 5 minute drive from the hotel making it too good to be true to be so close to such an incredible culinary experience. The restaurant closes every Sunday for Chef Jojo to showcase his latest curated menu which he switches out every 2 months. His wife Eliza was the host and so nice, accommodating, and generous. They were very mindful of my husband's shellfish allergy and my pregnancy diet, and modified everything as necessary without making either of us feel ashamed for the inconvenience. Chef's passion for cooking shines from the moment you walk in as he begins walking through each of the wine pairings. Each course him and his assistant make sure to walk around and show you the "before" and how it will be prepared, and talk you through the ingredients as they are beautifully plating. Absolutely will be coming back and highly recommending to anyone who goes to Maui! read more

LONGANISA CORNDOGS, nuff said. We came to Fond on the recommendation of our zipline guide (shout out to Jasmine from Kapalua Ziplines!) and we were not disappointed. Located in Napili, this place boasts a menu that melds Hawaiian fare with your standard American offerings but all with a Filipino influence. On good advice from our ziplining guide, we had it on good authority that the chef at Fond was on the come up and we definitely didn't want to miss out. We started out with the longanisa corndogs - a perfect blend of American comfort food and Filipino flavors. The longanisa was made in house and was excellent and lean. You would think that the lack of fat would make it taste bad but it was just sublime. The chicken meatballs were also really good with bits of shiso leaves mixed into the ground chicken. Pork skewers were tangy, juicy and reminded me of the best homemade Filipino pork bbq I've had. Dipping it in the Hawaiian chili water took the flavors to the next level. Gravy fries were crispy and the gravy that topped it had excellent flavors. Entrees are served double size so they're meant for two (you can also order half size for one). The miso salmon was tender, flaky and cooked perfectly. Lemon chicken was juicy but had the crispiest skin you could want. The service here was excellent - everyone was friendly and appreciative (apparently they've only been open for dinner for the last month). I hope more diners come here to show support for a chef and staff who clearly know how to give an excellent dining experience. Thumbs up big time. read more

Another fantastic meal! We carried out dinner 2 or 3 times while in Maui last winter and the food was good. Ate in person last night and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Started with Brussels sprouts, I had the seafood tsunami and my wife had the seared fresh catch. The food was very flavorful in a good and almost complex way. Fond has been on my list since late 2019 when a server at another notable restaurant recommended it. Then recently Chef Jojo was nominated for a James Beard award and it was a must-visit place on my most recent trip to Maui. My husband and I went for lunch and it was amazing. My husband got the ahi poke bento box, I got the flip n out burger and we shared a Cesar salad. The food was excellent. Fries were crunchy, burger was a very tasty interpretation of in n out, Cesar was great with fried sweet onions and the bento box was beautiful. Highly recommend for a delicious lunch or dinner when passing through Napili. We'll definitely be coming back and recommending to anyone who asks! read more

As many of the other reviews have said, at least for breakfast, you have to do all the work yourself. Very overpriced for that + there is no view and the restaurant is in a strip center with a view of a parking lot. We are planning to go for dinner but heard that for some reason there is blasting music that you can't even carry on a dinner conversation. I think that's very inappropriate and should be reserved for after 8 PM or later. We are sorry to see other reviews noting the slow service. I will report on my own at a later date after I try dinner soon, but I know it's tough opening a new restaurant. We are so excited to have Chef JoJo in a new restaurant on the west side. This restaurant was recommended to us by our B&B host, we were looking for a restaurant where locals eat, nothing touristy. Overall we were not impressed with our experience. The food was ok, the Asian slaw and Korean fried chicken were the highlights of our meal, however the Maui cattle sirloin was a huge disappointment. We expected the meat to be more tender and also the garlic fried rice overpowered all of the other flavors. Their alcohol selection, especially when it comes to wines, is very limited. read more

Hubby and I went along at 8.15am Sunday for breakfast and there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant. Reason was it was incredibly hot inside and stuffy, and when we asked if they could open the window (a glass garage door) they said no. Walking in the first thing we saw was garbage and dirty dishes as the self bussing area is right at the entrance to the restaurant and where the queue to order is. We decided to persevere as the chef worked at a high end hotel so we wanted to try the food. When I asked what type of breakfast potatoes they served the server didn't know. Not a great start. I know they are a self service restaurant but some level of customer service is expected. When our names were called we collected our food and it looked good. I ordered the veggie omelette, hubby the Filipino rice dish with pork. However when I started to eat mine I realized it was extremely greasy which was off putting. The omelette had a strange spongy texture and it was greasy it didn't stay in one piece when cut but crumbled into little spongy pieces. The veggies were tomato, onion and kale. The potatoes were swimming in grease too. Hubby's dish was much better, with good strong pickles, and he ate it all up and enjoyed it, hence the 2 stars. Maybe we arrived at the wrong time - 15 mins after they open is obviously not great, but for a breakfast restaurant you would think they would be up and running straight away. The Pagoda down the road had been open for hours before this restaurant opened at 8am.
