We went here for the first time after reading the reviews here on Yelp. The place is on the small side but we were seated right away. We weren't sure what to order since there were so many things that we wanted to try, but everything was so reasonably priced that we ordered quite a few things. We started off with Hoy Jaw (dumplings) which didn't look much like the photos we saw, but were darker (see my photo). They were served with sweet chili sauce and were sooooo yummy!!! I really could eat a lot of these. Then we tried the Thai Stix which are deep fried and filled with cream cheese and crab....they were hot and melted in our mouth! For our entrees we ordered the Chicken Khao Sol and the Chicken Sateh which are grilled pieces of chicken and the Muu Ping which are pork skewers. The chicken skewers were okay....but nothing special...and the pork was a bit better. These were both good, but didn't blow our minds. The Khao Sol on the other hand was AWESOME!!! Every first few bites we would have to stop and say "Mmmmmmmm". Next time we will for SURE be getting this again.....soooo wonderful! To drink I ordered the Kafae Yen which is Thai iced coffee.....waaaaaay too sweet for me, but I got used to it after awhile. This is not like the kind served at Pho Grand, but I thought it might be. We didn't get forks and I didn't want to ask for one, since I needed chopstick practice...:), but I'm sure they would give you one. The entree portions are generous and everything was reasonably priced. The servers are very quiet and appear and disappear often w/o us noticing. Its a small little place and off the main strip. You really have to know this place is here. Man, am I glad I'm in the know! Went here for a lunch, it was a beautiful day and sat outside. Such a small place with such great touches. I had pad thai (kinda my thang) and it was amazing! The appetizers, chicken satay and the dragon sticks were great. The sauces were great. After trying their lettuce 'tacos' at the Yelp ball, and being super impressed with the flavoring AND the spice, the bf and I put them on the to visit list. What a great place. Nice service, excellent food, nice ambiance (which was so nice it needed to be noted). The cream cheese stix were very fatty and delicious. I had the hung lay curry, which contained pork, ginger and lemongrass. It was AMAZING- fresh, and the flavors blended perfectly. I came here last night with a group of friends, and I've been absolutely dying to try this place. The space is quite small; there are only about 15 or so tables inside the restaurant, and all of the tables were taken when we got there. I appreciated its tasteful decor with several modern artworks on one wall and another wall covered in chalkboard material and writings. I got the Red Curry with Chicken which had a great balance of sweet and spicy. The dish was inundated with bamboo shoots with a few sprinkles of bell peppers, but it also came with plentiful pieces of chicken. A couple of friends got the Khao Soi, which they loved and devoured. Fork and Stix does not (yet?) serve alcohol, but I saw a couple of tables bring their own bottles of wine. I'd love to come back to try the Khao Soi and Hung Lai Curry. read more

Excellent food. Great service. This is a quaint little restaurant off the loud loop. A great hideaway to enjoy amazing dishes and a nice atmosphere. The staff couldn't be more polite and professional. The curry is an excellent choice and not too spicy, rather sweet and mildly spicy. The beef skewers are delicious. I'll definitely be back!! UPDATE So, I have recently been going around the corner for Thai food, and decided to come back to Fork for dinner and a change. Sadly, everything's changed. The waitstaff was unfriendly. The service was poor and slow. The food was tasteless. The basil was old and wilted. The appetizer was decent but lacked the spice and taste it had before. Whatever changes they have made, changed my 5 star rating to a 2 star. I won't be back, I'll continue around the corner and up the street for amazing Thai food and excellent service. read more

Good (not great) Thai food in a pretty cool part of town. We wanted to try something different, and although Fork&Stix isn't the best Thai in STL is was good and I'd probably go back. We did some basic things - crispy spring rolls (just cabbage!?), papaya salad (very good!!), red curry, and another fish of ground pork and veggies in a sweet broth. Green beans in both the salad and the ground pork dish weren't cooked enough, and squeaked as I chewed - drove me freaking crazy... The dining space is nice and cozy. I knew very little about Fork & Stix until reading about it on Ian Froeb's recently published top 100 restaurants in St. Louis. What attracted me most from his article was the accompanied picture of what appeared to be a delicious bowl of curry soup. From the picture alone, I knew I had to try this place. I went to Fork & Stix on a Thursday evening with two friends. We started off by sharing 3 appetizers: Hoy Jaw (fried dumplings stuffed with shrimp, crab & pork), Crispy Spring Rolls and Pork Skewers. Surprisingly, the Hoy Jaw was only pretty good. I'd eat it again, but I wasn't too crazy about the flavor combinations. I'd consider this more of just a personal preference but nothing that would warrant a star reduction. The Crispy Spring Rolls had a lovely taste and texture, everything you'd want from a spring roll. The Pork Skewers were unbelievable. Grilled to perfection with a delightful flavor. Probably the best skewers I've ever had. After we ate our apps, we each ordered the Khao Soi, which is the soup that mesmerized me in Ian Froeb's article. Full discloser, I generally don't like soup at all. However, there was something uniquely luring about this Khao Soi. The conclusion: It was phenomenal. In fact, it would insulting to merely relegate this as soup. It was a meal, and a delicious one at that. The curry sauce was smooth and rich, it had a diversity of textures with both the crispy and the cooked noodles, and the spice level was perfect. I added some sticky rice into as well which was a nice touch. All in all, the food was great, and the experience was made even better by the excellent service. Looking for a lunch spot, I ended up here with a food loving friend of mine. Fork & Stix recently opened and it's always nice to show love to a local eatery! The family owned restaurant, prides themselves on a few dishes being influenced from their Northern Thai roots. One dish in particular Kaeng Hung Leh (pork belly curry) is a great comfort food style dish (I posted a pic). This dish is aimed to please those looking for a tasty home style dish. With pork belly rendered down served along side pieces of slow braised pork loin it's a perfectly timed dish as we enter in the Fall season. During our first visit we also sampled the dumplings, crying tiger, papaya salad and sticky rice. I recommend a Thai tea and the Kaeng Hung Leh!! Enjoy! read more

Tried something I could barely pronounce, enjoyed it nonetheless. A new and most welcomed entrant into the Saint Louis proper Thai cuisine. We were happy to find that on a busy Saturday night, our wait for a table at the seemingly small Fork & Stix was equally as small. It's a traditional storefront property that has been converted into a great restaurant space. A space that is utilized quite well with booth seating that lines the north and south walls, with traditional large and small tables spread throughout the rest of the space. The south wall has a giant chalkboard where murals and other earthly quotes are scribbled all over. Once seating we were happy to enjoy a hot tea accompanied with self-serve bottles of water, the tea in particular was very good. Looking at the menu we elected to skip the appetizers but I noticed the table next to us had the Chicken Sateh which looked quite good. I went with the Pad Ka Prao and ordered it spicy, the waiter did warn me about the level of spice but I already knew the drill. My fiancé went with the Red Curry, not deterring far from recommended Thai food dishes. Both were excellent and offered healthy rations of vegetables and meat as well, you have your choice of pork, chicken, and or straight veggie. My only complaint is that mine had a little too much onion and I found my self sifting through them to get to the rest of the dish. My wife and in-laws went to Fork & Stix one cold winter night. It is tuck down a side street off of Delmar, so you need to know where you are going. There isn't much nearby parking, but that is par for the course in the Loop. The restaurant is on the small side, so I would not recommend going in parties over four. The food was good and the service was nice. The one downside I really noticed had to do with the size of the place would could lead to a wait if you aren't wary. read more

Been here a couple times and I don't really understand the hype. The service is really slow/poor and the food portions are paltry for the price. Expect to wait 20 minutes to be seated for dinner. As for the food, I haven't disliked anything I've ordered here, but I don't feel full afterward either (and I'm a girl). I say the service is poor because my partner asked for water without ice (sensitive teeth), yet after 10 minutes of waiting he was nonchalantly served water with ice. I ordered Thai iced tea and it was not filled to the top like it usually is. Wtf? It's flavored water for goodness sake. I keep thinking this place is called Fork & Spoon, because that just makes more sense for Thai food than "Stix," but I guess that does speak to the image this restaurant wants to have and the audience it wants to appeal to. I don't think this is the Thai restaurant for me. I don't blame them. Their versions were understandably subdued, but even then could still be better. The portions are tiny for the appetizers. They charge half as much but only give you 1/3 of the food as other places. And no, those 4 slices of cabbage on the side does not help fool anyone about how little food we're getting. And also, too sweet, not enough acid... as always sigh. Whatever you do, don't get their pad kee mao. This was really the main reason I wanted to eat out at a Thai restaurant. I've been craving pad kee mao for a while. but once again, I just.. have no idea what that was. Just WHY :( It is easily the worst dish I've ever had and rivals Thai 202's entire horrendous meal. Sigh. The one shining star was our last dish, the Hung Ley curry - porky, rich, tons of savoriness and depth, super comforting, good pork. All positives all around. Yummy. I tend to steer away from curry in Thai restaurants because they're usually way too sweet and taste of nothing but coconut. This was a pleasant surprise and a great note to end on. Based on that, I'd come back and give their Khao Soi a chance and try some other dishes. Maybe curries are their specialty. Too bad I am not a big curry fan. If only there's a similar place that does a proper pad kee mao... or any of other of my favorite thai dishes :( About spice levels: Mild medium or hot. We were talked down from ordering everything on hot (because hot is VERY spicy here, and medium is "almost spicy" whatever that means) so we did 1 hot and one medium to compare. Medium is barely spicy if at all, and hot was actually spicy for us, but not so much that it blows your palate and you can't taste anymore. I'd say if you regularly eat spicy foods, get hot anyway because it's no spicier than usual. Otherwise, get medium and add your own dried chilis that they have on the tables - but I don't think it tastes as good that way... read more

I've only been here once but under the recommendation of someone I ordered the Khao Soi, which is like a curry noodle soup. So based off of that one dish, I would rate this place positively. That noodle curry soup dish was quite good and definitely worth coming back for. At least for me, I haven't really had anything quite like it. I am surprised that I have never written a review for Fork and Stix because it is by far one of my favorite Thai restaurants in St. Louis. My favorite dish is a northern Thai specialty - hung leh, a pork belly and peanut stew with a little heat. I have not seen it at any of other the other Thai restaurants in St. Louis. Wow. This is the place to go in St. Louis for the best kao soi. The broth was perfect, and the noodles, meat, and vegetables complemented each other so wonderfully. The pad thai was good as well, but, to me, the khao soi is the true masterpiece dish of Fork and Stix. It's not often that you come across Thai food that is somehow both reasonably priced and delicious without making you feel bloated afterwards, but if you go to this Thai restaurant, you probably won't be disappointed. I thought that the atmosphere itself was a little hipster to be honest, but it's rather charming. They use metal cups and put the water in clear wine bottles, and the menu is designed to look like a file folder. As far as service goes, they were excellent. We we waited on as soon as the waiters noticed we were ready to order, our food arrived in about 10 minutes, and they got the bill to us immediately after we requested it. Extremely good Thai food, based on my one visit. I had the Khao Pad with tofu, which I had not had in a very long time. It's Thai fried rice and their version is very healthy, almost like a salad. I did not use the spice tray because I wanted to taste the underlying flavors which are pretty sedate. The Mango juice was pretty good too. Service was ok. There are somewhat limited vegetarian options (due to fish sauce and shrimp paste), but I will be back to try all of their vegetarian options! (And maybe sit outside when the weather is not like a furnace.) Parking is somewhat of a challenge but there is usually something on Delmar since they are at the very far east end of the loop. read more

This restaurant does indeed live up to the hype and dishes up some delicious, authentic Thai food. As mentioned in previous reviews, the pad kee mao (drunken noodles) is a must try. The muu ping (pork skewers) app is also fantastic and comes with a side of sticky rice! The portions are a smidge smaller than other Thai places around town but I still had enough leftover for a snack the next day. Unfortunately, we missed out on the stellar service that other people have raved about. The hubs and I came on a weekday evening around 6 PM and grabbed one of the last remaining tables. The dining area is a very small space that can seat up to ~30 people. With only two servers, however, there wasn't much by way of service. Our food still arrived promptly but no one came around again until it was time for the check. And that's really no fault of our server, who was running around nonstop from table to table. The other issue I had was with the ambience. I'm glad that this restaurant, for a hole-in-the-wall kind of joint, is getting so much business. But when it gets packed it also gets super loud. I could hear every word of the conversation from the adjacent table, which was about 8 inches away. And the people sitting there were shouting just so they could hear each other. We gave up trying to talk and just focused on our food, which thankfully was delicious. I highly recommend this place for having some of the best Thai food in STL, however next time I'd probably go for takeout and skip the dine in experience. read more

Fork & Stix is a great, local Thai restaurant in Saint louis just off Delmar. It is a bit nicer aesthetically than your standard Thai restaurant, and is also fairly small on the inside as far as seating goes. The quality of the food is high, and the portions are not small, but they are not as large as most restaurants I have been to. For reference, I usually have leftovers, and when I eat here, I don't. I frequent this restaurant, and always get the Pad a Thai. I like that it is a bit unique, and has broccoli in it! The price is pretty standard. It is not too high, but is a bit higher than your average Thai restaurant. read more

It's not as small as it looks. From previous reviews, I thought there were four tables. More like ten. My girlfriend and I went for lunch July 22. She's been here before, so ordered spring rolls for us to share: stuffed with glass noodles, cabbage and carrot, deep fried and served with Thai sweet chili sauce. They were incredibly fresh-tasting (despite the deep frying), and the sauce was an extremely appropriate accompaniment. For entrée, she got something she's had before. I got chicken red curry: bamboo shoots, bell pepper, basil and coconut milk. Served with rice. The dish was a fabulous combo of tastes and textures. I did not use much of the rice. Service was spot-on, including water refills. We both had a to-go vessel for another meal. read more

Let me start by saying that I love the food here and have always enjoyed the ambiance, the service, the whole experience really. But, sadly, I won't be back due to the poor service I received last night. My wife and I ordered the Som Tum (papaya salad) to start. They asked us if we wanted it mild, medium, or spicy. We requested mild. When it came out, I immediately noticed a pretty substantial amount of Prik Pon on top of the salad (Prik Pon is the Thai ground chili that is universally used to adjust spiciness in the Thai restaurants that I've been to). I figured I'd try it anyway. We each took a bite, and it was very spicy. Like, numb lips spicy. I should say, for a dish like this, I would expect it to be a little spicy at the mild level. At this point, I figured it was a simple mistake, we ordered mild, we got medium or spicy. We informed the food runner (we never saw our waiter again after we ordered) that we ordered mild and it was very spicy. She went back to the kitchen, returned to our table and said "yes, the mild is very spicy" I pointed out that I noticed the Prik Pon on the top of the salad and suggested that we could be given a salad with no additional Prik Pon on top. She just kind of walked away. She returned in a few minutes to awkwardly and unapologetically tell us that we would still have to pay for the salad, we told her again that we weren't going to eat the it and that she could take it away. There didn't seem to be a manager anywhere, our waiter never returned. I enjoyed my Khao Soi, which is one of the best Thai dishes in St Louis, which was pleasantly spicy, about a third of the level of the salad. I've never returned a dish because it was too spicy. I only made issue of it because it genuinely seemed like an easily fixed mistake, simply bring out a salad with no Prik Pon sprinkled on top. Instead, we had a really awkward experience and were made to feel like we were out of line. It's a bummer, because if we had just ordered spring rolls instead, I could continue to go back for the delicious Khao Soi that I love. But, if I'm going to drop sixty bucks, I don't want there to be a chance that I'll leave a restaurant feeling unwelcome. read more
