Not bad, but not great. There was no hostess, so we had to grab menus and seat ourselves. The waiter was nice enough, but knew nothing about the menu (new hire?). Twelve dollars for a salad was a bit much for what would amount to a side salad elsewhere, but the blackened shrimp were amazing. Probably won't dine there again. read more

I live near Roux and eat breakfast, lunch or dinner here regularly. The food is always good. The service is always excellent - very personable and professional staff. Particular compliments to one of the servers Robert who not only is professional he also has a great sense of humor - he makes me smile - which is powerful thing some days. read more

A group of us (7) went to Roux at 11:45 am. There was only one table with 3 people. All the other tables were empty. We ordered before noon. At 12:30 we asked the hostess where are food and waiter was. In about 5 more minutes our waiter showed up and brought our food. The food was cold. He then said he would bring us fresh fries. He did this and then before we even were able to eat the cold food, he brought our check and said he did not charge for the tea or coffee. The 4 stars is only due to the feeling of being in the lobby, that other reviewers have mentioned. Apart from that -- Breakfast here is Yummy! Light fluffy omelette. Grits in a small bowl that keeps them warm. Thick multi grain toast with tasty Dickinson jam or honey to slather on.. Delicious fresh-tasting orange juice. Buffet full of pastries and fresh fruit. Wonderful way to start the day, and a great reason to stay here at the Hilton, all by itself. read more

We are staying in the hotel and decided to have dinner here. The food was reasonably priced compared to other nearby places and deliciously prepared. The service could not have been better. We thought about going to other restaurants within walking distance but we have the same ones back home and wanted something different. ** A VALENTINES DINNER TO REMEMBER** 2/14/2016 We spoke with the Mgr. Katie Casey on 2/8/2016 to set up reservations for our Anniversary Valentines Day Dinner. We arrived promptly at 2:00 PM. Valet parking for $5.00! We were greeted & seated promptly. Our server, Bonnie Shaw was very professional & friendly, and certainly knew all of our menu choices that had been pre-ordered. The staff worked as a flawless team, including management to make sure all of our needs were met & satisfied. Appetizers: Calamari, Hummus, Olives & Pita Bread, Pimento & Fresh Chips. For the main courses, we chose Lamb Chops, Collard Greens Over Fresh Mashed Potatoes, Tai Sticky Wings & Sweet Potato Fries. All of these Menu items were brought in by our wonderful Chef Derek & Jane & cooked special order.. One of our children ask us, Why do you go there each year? We were staying at the Hilton (the restaurant is located inside) and had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel. We decided that we would dine at the hotel for dinner rather than eat somewhere in Biltmore Park due to time constraints. The atmosphere is very nice and the relatively new. The waiter that we had was somewhat unsure of the menu, but still ensured that we were content. My fiancé ordered a salad as an appetizer and the server brought out dinner rolls, both of which were good. For dinner, I ordered the crab cakes and she ordered the chicken gorgonzola. The crab cakes contained plenty of jumbo lump crab meat with not a lot of filler and also came with a tangy slaw which was good. The chicken gorgonzola was cooked well and came with what the restaurant called the potato of the day which was mashed potatoes that contained horseradish. We took desert to go which was bread pudding that contained figs and were basically satisfied. One good feature was that was saved fifteen dollars on our bill because the restaurant was offering fifteen dollars off if you spent forty dollars or more (which is easy to do for a couple eating out), but was only offering this until July 31st, 2015. Breakfast buffet was included in our hotel package and was just as good, if not better than dinner. The service was better and the waiter had a very positive attitude. We ordered coffee and orange juice and found that the selection at the buffet was quite good. All of the food was amazing (remember this was a buffet), and guests can get omelets to order as part of the buffet. Overall we were very satisfied with our dining experience and would recommend this location to anyone dining in the area. read more

I'm adding Roux to Yelp! because it's really not represented and a place like this needs to be. Now before I get into the reviews, A NOTE ON THE RATING. This is based largely on the food, but you'll have to read further to see a couple of other factors. I was visiting Asheville on vacation with my Dad and so I wanted to plan out a few things ahead of time because it's not his thing and I wanted to make sure we had a few things set up before arrival so weren't scrambling when we got there. So I did the Groupon thing for Roux. We went to Roux on Thursday and arrived pretty late for dinner at about 8:30pm. We were the only people in the restaurant at the time, though it's in a hotel lobby so I wasn't sure at first as there were a few people in another spot in the lobby. So I was a bit concerned that maybe this place would be a bust since it seemed so dead. Well my fears proved to be unfounded as we had a great meal. Now I checked out their menu online before doing the Groupon and again before leaving. They have separate menus for lunch and dinner and while my Groupon was dinner only, the lunch menu was more intriguing. So upon being seated we asked our server if we could order off of the lunch menu as well. He said he wasn't sure as they had a different chef at night, but he'd check on anything we were interested it. Well fortunately they were able to accomodate my request. So we started off with a couple of local brews as they have the typical Asheville mix of most of the area breweries but only a few selections from each spot. When the drinks came so came the bread. It smelled of garlic bread and I think the "plain" bread did have a hint of garlic, but there were other breads including another really good one with cranberries. They also had a soft and sweet creamed butter to go with them. So a really good start, but with the Groupon I ordered two entrees for us to split one of mine and so I had to give the bread a rest to make room for the main courses. So I went with the standby, a cheeseburger and fries for one of the courses. It was a really good Angus burger and had great flavor. NOTE TO THE OWNERS, if the meat is locally raised you should note it on the menu. The fries were also really good. My Dad had the 8oz Chicken Chop with garlic smashed potatoes. He immediately commented on how good it was and noted it was one of his best meals on our trip as well. So saving the best for last, there was that 3rd entree. I also ordered the Griled Cheese Deluxe. It's a grilled cheese with Aged Vermont White Cheddar, Gorgonzola and Granny Smith apples on a whole grain bread. You can also get it with bacon for an added charge, but I passed on that. Anyway, it was AWESOME! What a great combo that I would have never thought of. In fact it was so good that I would definitely go back many times for lunch for that alone if I lived in the area. As for the service, it was good. Our server seemed brand new, but he was pleasant, tried really hard and seemed pretty knowledgeable about the menu despite being new. So a plus on the service as well. The two "knocks" I'd have on the place are very slight. The first is the location. It's more on the South end of Asheville and definitely out of the way a bit if you're on the opposite end of town. Still worth a trip if you have a few days and nights and it is right off the freeway. The other knock is that it's in the Hilton at that outdoor lifestyle center (mall/condo development). Nothing against the hotel and if you're staying there you're in luck to have this place here, and in fact I think you can get it to go and take it to your room. The "knock" here though is that you seem to be in the lobby. It was quiet enough and the decor was decent (actually liked the bird's nest painting a lot), but I just felt a meal like that deserves a little better space. Overall I would recommend Roux if you're looking for good food from a distinctive menu. read more

Just finished dinner part of restaurant week. Although the food was good we were told there was only one chef for the hotel and guests. 1 1/5 hours after being seated we got our food. I was absolutely astounded at how empty this restaurant was on a Friday night, especially when the food was superb! I highly recommend the pork loin with butternut squash/beet side and sherry mushrooms. The pork was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the sides were fresh and savory. Kelly is among the best servers I've ever had, and the entire staff is welcoming, sharp, and on point. Roux has got to be Asheville's best kept secret. A wonderful meal in a delightful atmosphere for a great price! Roux definitely deserves better patronage! read more

We've eaten at Roux twice for dinner and were very impressed both times. I've had the short ribs (with a marvelous potato hash) and the meatloaf (although what I got redefines, in a fantastic way, the term meatloaf), and my partner has had fish and a filet. While I agree that the atmosphere is a little strange, after all, you are in a hotel lobby, the service and food quality are excellent. I recommend this place highly. Last night, on a Saturday around 8pm, the place was pretty empty (good for us), but I can only guess that it's because it isn't well known. Anyone eating there would certainly be back for more. Went Christmas Day for lunch. Food was okay. Pimento cheese and chips were really good, but hummus had started to harden on the outside like it had been sitting around a while and veggies were soft. Burgers were pretty good too. But...the service was the WORST! Our waitress, I think her name was Margo, was so rude, and not to just us, but to everyone in the restaurant! my family and I got the room service and over all it was fine. Had the lava cake and salmon, the salmon wasn't the freshest but tasted good.The mashed potatoes tasted fine but looked as if they'd been sitting for a while. The asparagus was delicious. Overall it was decent but could use improvement. Taking into consideration it was room service and they had to take the food upstairs it wasn't how it would be if it was in the restaurant. Great service, lovely setting in lobby of Hilton hotel. We went there for dinner, and the food was terrible. My burger was dry, crumbly, and tasteless, despite being made from local organic beef. My husband's brisket was tough as shoe leather with overpowering spices - he couldn't even eat it. The cheesecake was rubbery and lacking flavor. We were very disappointed! read more
