Formosa has got to be one of the best fast food Chinese places I have ever tried. Don't let the bullet holes in the walls intimidate you because you will miss out on deliciousness. Their beef and broccoli is the best. I've also tried their cashew chicken, egg rolls, beef on a stick that is marinated o so well and their noodles are pretty good too. Best of all they are super affordable especially during lunch hour! The only thing I wasn't too fond of was their soups as there really isn't that much broth in there but more meat or veggies which some people like. The fortune cookies are ultra hard too so I say to stick to the entrees. There is a drive through if you dont want to get out of your car because it's located in a neighborhood that isn't too glorious but the food keeps me coming back. I've talked to some of the business owners/workers around the area and most of them come here almost EVERY DAY for lunch. That's gotta mean Formosa is doing something right. read more

Yummy! I had the sesame chicken. Lunch special from 11-3pm. $4.75 with brown rice, egg roll and a drink. Good food... nice quantity... low price. Standard Young & Young fortune cookie. Somewhat loud HLN blaring on the overhead TV, but I won't hold that against them. Not sure if they do refills. I had root beer. They put it in a styrofoam cup. You order and they make a tray for you and bring it out to your table when it's ready, so you see people sitting at their tables with nothing in front of them for awhile. Friendly staff. It looks like this used to be a Dairy Queen! I got to park right in front of the door and was thus in the shade under the overhang! That made a pleasant difference when I got back in my car later and it wasn't 250 degrees inside. As I sat waiting for my chow, I noticed that an air conditioner was right above the door, dripping water all over the concrete outside. I thought that I better be careful not to get dripped on when I went out. But when I left it turned out not to be an issue because the drip was on the hinge side of the door, so no worries! I stubbed my right big toe coming in (I always wear sandal-like flip flops these days). There is like a one-inch "step" as you approach the door which I didn't see, and I kicked it quite squarely and righteously! Boy was I pissed for about 20 seconds! No permanent harm done. I am videoing some haunted house construction work going on in the vicinity of this place, so I'm sure I'll hit it again. I'll watch out for that little step next time! UPDATE: 20100914 - I went back a couple weeks ago and they DO give you free drink refills if you go back up to the counter! BONUS! read more

I love the garlic beef I go there like a few times a week it's that good ! I actually been going there ever since they opened in 1995 back when they use to deliver to my work. They don't deliver anymore but I am sure you can use Uber eats for whatever you want. I highly recommend their food and there great customer service. Well the reviews were good, and the parking lot was full so I gave it a try! Not bad for the price but a little bland. It's a great place for take out which is what I did and brought it home to doctor it up. I got the garlic chicken. Now I am a garlicaholic, you just can't put too much garlic in my food, but some people turn up their nose if you even pass an unopened container of garlic power across their food so to say it wasn't garlicy enough for me is an understatement, but there was also not much flavor at all to the brown sauce over the multitude of veggies and chicken. I added some Bragg's aminios (similar to soy without gluten) then a generous amount of peanut sauce and Thai sweet chili sauce and it was just perfect. I only wish I had some almonds to give the dish a bit more crunch. The staff was very nice and my food was out faster than I could get to the restroom and back. I would be willing to try more of their dishes simply because of the price, service and the huge amount of food they give you, as long as I can bring it home and doctor it up with my own seasonings. The staff are terrible. They didn't come to the intercom to take my order. I had to pull up and not at in the window. I do spoke to the manager and he the not apologize. He kept saying they were busy taking orders on the phone. That's not no excuse. I will not go back. read more

Is this traditional food you will find on the streets of China, no, but it IS good Chinese style food. They are quick, inexpensive and large portions. If you eat in and you like the Chinese hot mustard, be sure and try their homemade version, it is REALLY good. Do not let the nay sayers keep you from trying this little gem. Tried Formosa Express based on the reviews. We ordered the Sesame Chicken, Hunan Chicken with Sweet & Sour Pork, and Vegetable Lo Mein. The meals came with egg rolls and a choice of steamed or fried rice. The Vegetable Lo Mein was good with a nice mixture of broccoli, onions, cabbage, water chestnuts, and bamboo shoots. The other menu selections were bland in taste. Even the egg rolls really had no flavor. The prices were reasonable, but the food simply did not live up to the previous reviews. I suppose they could have had an off night, but we were disappointed. read more

Large portions, low prices, and friendly staff what's not to love? The Orange Chicken is spectacular, though I wish it had some vegetables in it. I bet if I asked for some broccoli in it they would have obliged. It just seems like that kind of place. If you are a carnivore, however, it is definitely the meal for you. This is not Chinese food. This is crap that chinese people serve to dumb americans that don't know the difference. I came here based on the reviews as well. I should have looked to see that not one review was by someone asian. If Chinese people don't eat there then you shouldn't either. The food was so bad I couldn't eat it and threw it away. They serve everything with nasty fried rice that is doused in soy sauce. Greasy! No sticky white rice. You can taste that just about everything was either frozen in a really dirty smelly freezer (because you could taste it in the dumplings and egg roll!) or came out of a can and wasn't rinsed properly. If all you people that gave this place 5 stars want to know what real Chinese food taste like, go to Monkey Noodle Company in Deep Ellum or drive to Richardson to Jeng Chi or Garland to the Asian areas and eat were Asian people eat so you know how you have been lied to. I got the Orange chicken and it was really good! I think I would come here instead of Panda Express, because they make it the way I like it (with tiny pieces). I didn't like the rice though, but I'm not a huge rice person either, so I guess it was okay. It was a good serving with a good amount of food. I liked it. read more

Its cheap 'Chinese' food and fast!! I have gotten drive thru and delivery so far, and I can say they are consistent. Prices are low and portions are large!! Can't go wrong with some hot n sour soup and their schezuan noodles. Its the closest Chinese food to my house, so I'm not a regular. One thing, I with their fried rice had egg or the standard carrots/peas just to give it some flavor. Also, haven't tried any of their non-Chinese fare (they have chicken fingers and fried catfish too) and I'm not sure I ever will. read more

In my desperation for quick Chinese food, I decided to try this joint. I mean $5.25 for most entrees don't seem so bad. I went through the drive-thru and ordered the garlic shrimp. I got mine order within a reasonable amount of time. Price was cheap and I got out of there fast. What could go wrong? Came home and instead of getting what I ordered, I got some chicken dish with mushrooms/baby corns. Not pleased, but whatever...let me try this out. Taste like crap....extremely bland all around. I ate about 1/4 and I am done. Unfortunately, I had to throw the rest in the trash and I hate to throw food away. Lesson learned for today: you get what you pay for. read more
