ROTAVIRUS! So.. My very 1st job was the slo location. Ive always loved their burgers! Decided to stop here in Morro Bay and have a burger. After the 1st bite I tasted something very offputting. Within a few hours I was very ill. Was admotted into the hospital for 3 days and could have died from being served POOP inside my burger! This is not a joke. This is very REAL. My tummy will NEVER be the same and is now very sensitive. Please DO NOT EAT HERE and chance being as ill as I was at the age of 33! read more

The entire place is out dated. The outside honestly looked like a dump. The inside was all outdated restaurant furniture. Tacky. We ordered a milkshake and something similar to a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. We ordered from the "pick up" window. It was crowded and unorganized. After we ordered we sat at a table and waited for our order. Everyone else who ordered after us seemed to be getting their orders. We waited. And waited. And waited. We went up to the window and asked where our order was. "Oh we forgot". Yes, they forgot about us. Two simple orders forgotten. It only took a minute to make two things. Typical, good Fosters Freeze fare. Clean outdoor tables. Super clean bathrooms. But, the owner's attitude was horrendous. Was taken aback at her rudeness which seemed to be directed at myself and other customers for absolutely no reason at all. I didn't really order a death glare with my dipped cone, but thanks I guess. I visited today when date took me to morro Bay for a drive and stopped for dessert. My date had strawberry sundae. The young man who took our order flashed a smile when we ordered. I ask to speak to the manager and Angie was very respectful when I spoke of her employees. Things are tough this last year and acknowledging good employees customer service is so important. I have some of my best memories from my childhood from Fosters Freeze in Morro Bay. It was always a perfect end to a day at the beach, a HS volleyball/basketball game, or even an elementary school graduation. I have frankly no idea how many Oreo Blizzards I have ordered from this joint. If you don't know what a blizzard is, you seriously need to change that asap! Staff are overly friendly and very helpful. The kind of people that will actually come out from behind the counter and visit with you when business is slow. Family run and operated, it's the kind of service you get when the business has meaning to someone (as opposed to Burger King or McDonald's). And I'll definitely continue to visit Foster's whenever I'm in SLO (even though I'm now up in the Bay Area). read more

I usually don't write reviews but I wanted to write one for this place. I often go here for twisters whenever we're out of ice cream at home, as well as some other occasions where we get dinner here. Despite it being understaffed, they do a great job at being efficient and the food being up to expectations. I work at one of the cafes down the street, so I sympathize a lot with people in the food service industry and know what it's like to be in their situation. The employees at the register are also really nice to interact with (at least the ones I've ordered from). All in all, this is a wonderful place, and I commend many of the employees there. read more

Honestly, this is just what you need on a hot summer day. They converted everything to be socially distant, and there's a pretty hefty line that usually moves pretty quickly. The large sizes are massive, so if you just want a sweet dessert, I would opt for a smaller size. I got the butterfinger twister, which was delicious, full of butterfingery goodness and chunks. Fosters is my go-to when I'm in Morro Bay! The food is always fresh and the staff is amazing. I always feel welcomed. I'm obsessed with the turkey burger and seasoned fries! I crave it all the time! They also have the best ice cream options when I'm wanting something sweet. I went recently during the pandemic and I felt completely safe and comfortable. I order approximately $45 worth of food to go. Once I got home I realized my order was 100% wrong, lucky I live a sort distance away and was able to make the drive back. While walking in the FOH staff knew why I was there and grabbed a bag from a counter behind them, told me it had been there since I got the wrong one. I ask them to re-fire(remake) it and offer to return the wrong order. They had me keep the food I accidentally got and wait for my correct order. I wait about ten minutes to be handed what I thought was a new order. However when sitting down to eat it was obvious they had just reheated the order they didn't give me. This left me feeling dissatisfied, ignored, insignificant, and just blatantly disrespected. Although I grew up going to the San Luis Obispo location, the Morro Bay location became my favorite hangout during my late high school and Cuesta College years. I always had great customer service at this location when I lived on the Central Coast and it brings me great joy to see that this location has not lost its touch. On a spontaneous trip up to Morro Bay a couple of weeks ago, me and a buddy of mine decided to pay a visit to this location once again despite the fact that we haven't been to Cuesta in several years and our Morro Bay contacts were gone. Same great service, same great environment, and best of all this place brought back many memories. To a reviewer who said, "...if I was Caucasian I wouldn't have to wait," I'm not Caucasian and I've ALWAYS had great service at this location, and I've been here since I was a wee little lad. Came here twice during our stay in Morro Bay... first time was a little weird - I go to order and say I want a large dipped cone and also a small dipped cone. The girl responds back and says "Ok so a junior cone?" - confused, I reply back "yea, a small dipped cone" (because that's what it says on the menu) and she keeps replying asking "so junior?" A customer behind me steps in and says "their small is a junior..." Uhh... ok? So I said "junior" and that was the magic word apparently. Probably the most difficult time I've ever had ordering a small dipped cone. I guess I wouldn't have understood even if there were "small" and "junior" sizes even though that didn't seem to be the case - if there are only two sizes and I'm telling you I want one of each, it shouldn't be that hard to figure it out if I say "one large and one small" *shrug* Anyway, second time was fine - friendly greetings upon entering and no such issues for my wife ordering a sundae. Have you ever wondered what Helen Keller looks like doing calculus ? Come here and you'll see. Simple math and 2 people in line will make any worker in this town melt away. Just go to the 4 way stop @ hwy 41 and main st. and watch what happens. The new young work force is scary. Don't dare ask any employee these days to explain their formulas, They'll just spit in your food. These people can't even push buttons on a computer correctly. "Maybe if they get 15$ an hr they'll have pride in their work" yeah? But you still need to be able to add and subtract. I wish I could say this is a isolated incident but in Morro Bay it's standard. Not too far from the busy and more popular restaurants on the Embarcadero, you will find our local Fosters Freeze. The staff here treats you like Cheers! lol a place where everyone knows your name. I come here often. The food is always piping fresh! The staff is always warm and attentive. Pricing is a bit on the up side but it's well worth it. Work their weekday specials and save save save! Decor transports you back to the 80s. I always get that same feeling as I sit there enjoying my chocolate dipped junior cone. Keep up the great work! :) read more

My family and I were staying in Cambria and we went whale watching with Sub Sea Tours in Morro Bay. Afterwards, my husband suggested we go to Fosters Freeze to eat and I was so excited because I'm from southern California and grew up eating at Fosters Freeze which was hugely popular in the 40's- 80's. Sadly, most of them started closing down in the 90's. The good news is that Fosters Freeze did not disappoint!!!! I loved my veggie burger, fries and awesome hot fudge sundae! I would recommend the regular fries instead of the waffle, though. I was so happy I even bought a 70th commemorative shirt. I hope Morro Bay residents and tourists do their part to keep this original California mom n' pop franchise chain alive. Must be so hard to compete against the corporate titans of fast food chains. read more

BUTTERFINGER TWISTERS !! and BUTTERSCOTCH SUNDAES!! These were the two reasons when I was little for always finishing my Fosters' meals. This family run fast food business creates a much better atmosphere than the normally bad attitude high school staffed places that could care less if you like your meal or not. They would always give me extra whip cream on the sundaes - in fact they still do!! I make a point of stopping here now on my way up from southern Cali to Cayucos just to grab a dessert and chat it up with the staff - makes a great, quick rest stop. They also have a great fish tank, that comes in quite handy for parents' whose children do not want to sit down and eat. read more
