The biscuits were hard and dry, the pork chops were tough, and the crab cakes were mostly filler, which is ridiculous for the price you're paying. I'd like to start of by saying our appetizer was absolutely delicious. We got the Garlic Pepper Wings and they were literally the best chicken wings I've ever had. Those wings were a 5/5. If you visit, you MUST get these!!!! Our Jambalaya was also pretty good. Came out hot and was really yummy! Unfortunately, my entree came out room temperature. The ribs, mashed potatoes, chicken, and sliders were all room temperature. I actually didn't eat anymore than just a bite of the chicken because i'm kind of weird about chicken and it being cool freaked me out. My boyfriend got the Cracker Crusted Shrimp plate. His shrimp came out warm but the fries were cold and soggy. His tartar sauce and cocktail sauce were not cold either. We're assuming they had our plates sitting out for a good while whilst waiting for the jambalaya maybe? Since our jambalaya was the ONLY thing that came out piping hot. :((( Our waitress was very busy all night but we couldn't find anyone to flag down to let them know :( Our waitress was super sweet though and hardworking!!!!! They comped our dessert after we finished our meals. The coconut cream pie was nice and easily shareable for 2. I hate giving 3 stars, i'd say it's more 3.5 :((( The restaurant is really pretty and the vibe is I'm not sure if it was just busy or what happened. Located across from the Western Market that is connected to 2000 Penn where I was working with my business team, my boss chose Founding Farmers because it was convenient and easy walking distance. It just so happened it was also part of a restaurant chain that we had ate the night before at their Georgetown location. Why my boss wanted to eat at their same restaurant two days in a row really is beyond me, but I will say we had the opportunity to enjoy lunch in a different setting, ordering different food. So the experience was different but still consistent. We enjoyed fried green tomatoes and candied bacon sticks for appetizers while I had a fried chicken salad for my main course. Overall, it was solid. It was filling the meal and satisfied without needing to order anything else. The service was on point in an interior that was very city comfort food and bar vibes. Dark gray interiors, warm, dark wood trim, the bar certainly had a happy hour and caters to the nearby business, government, and academic crowd that is dependable. read more

I would have given it 4 stars of the service was not so incredibly slow. It took almost 20 min for someone to notice we were at the table or even get our drinks. The two tables next to us experienced the same issues. The food was amazing tho. The cornbread was delicious with a light honey butter not too over powering. The burger with balsamic and lemon aoli with blue cheese was amazing. The fries were hand cut and tasty. Definitely come here for the food and not for the service. The reviews speak for themselves, but I will throw in my opinion. It was great! I came for breakfast at opening on a weekday and it did start to fill in a bit, but it wasn't too full or too loud that early. The founding farmers breakfast allows you to customize your meal to your liking. The scrambled eggs were to die for, they must put a good amount of milk or cream in there to fluff them up. The chicken apple sausage is an uncommon restaurant item but was delicious and superior to pork sausage (yeah I said it.) The apple walnut bread was also special, not too sweet, but a great alternative to plain toast. They also have pancakes, waffles, and French toast with great toppings. The French toast isn't a big portion, but the presentation of stacking bread like Jenga pieces was really cute. The plats have the old time vintage but still DC vibe, the second floor gives a little view, and the bathrooms were nice with those full doors and a sink basin (it's the little things I like). Overall, since I didn't have to wait, totally loved the experience, the service, the ambiance, and the food. No wonder this place is so popular. read more

5 STARZ first first server Enrique! We have been here twice during our trip and had a lot of questions and requests. Enrique was helpful, friendly and answered our questions with pride in his company! I had bacon and eggs, hashbrowns and English muffin. All great breakfast fare. My sister's eggs and cheesy grits were delicious as were the pancakes. I am not a fan of pure maple syrup which is what they serve with the pancakes but the berry compote that comes with the beignets is a perfect substitute for traditional syrup! Beignets were fresh and hot when they came out, a tiny bit crispy on the outside which was perfect for the tender fluffiness of the inside. The very compote dip was my favorite but you also get chocolate and caramel. Another nice treat is their selection of chocolates that they make. Got a sampler on my first trip with Enrique's help and came back to get the peanut butter cups because they were so good. Ambiance: hip yet homey. Great music in my opinion - a mix of R&B and slow jams. This restaurant will definitely be on my list to revisit on future trip trips! read more

This was one of my favorite places we stopped at for dinner in DC. I would most definitely go back and am really sad we didn't go sooner. We went on a weekday for dinner it was very busy but we had gotten a reservation which made it a tad quicker. We headed upstairs to our seat and they do give you water with a glass bottle for refills. For appetizers we got chips and dips. I loved the pimento cheese and guacamole, my husband liked the salsa but I wasn't too much of a fan. For entree I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup and it was absolutely delicious. So comforting and spectacular! My husband ordered mac and cheese with fried chicken but they did end up giving him chicken tenders. I was so excited to head back to Founding Farmers after some time and unfortunately, it left me feeling a little disappointed. We had 6pm reservations, arrived early but were not seated until 6:20pm. Our server was friendly and nice but the poor girl got double sat and we knew she was going to be running. They have the tables all packed in there. All we could hear was the conversation right next to us. Not the best place for a date night. Our drinks took a long time coming from the bar. The highlight was the prosciutto bread. My meal was not that great. The server misheard me and I got what I didn't order. I didn't say anything cause honestly, I just didn't care to be bothered. My husband's steak was alright. A foodies dream! I had the crème brûlée "donut" and the peach parfait. The donut was literally 100 pieces of perfectly laid filo dough with deliciously smooth vanilla cream inside. Very cool place to come and eat as a group, chill with a date, or just enjoy by yourself. We decided to join our family friends for dinner here after moving our Howard University students back into their places. We were a party of 8 and the place was very accommodating and nice to dine in. There is a front host/hostess station for checking in. The decor and farmer design element is very cool. There is also merchandise for sale up front. We were seated, and we were immediately contacted by our server for drink orders. He was very customer service oriented. he came back and we gave him appetizer orders for the table to share. The appetizers came out within about 15 minutes and they were all good. We had eight entrées come out and everything was very tasty. Our party enjoyed the whole meal and vibe of the place. Parking can be challenging, as with everything in DC, but there are ParkMobile app spaces all around this area. We will surely visit again and this is one of our DC places to dine. read more

One of the best burgers I have ever had. Founding Farmers is a great restaurant. We liked it so much that we ate here twice on our trip to DC. I took my kids to DC for my first vacation in more than four years. I had read great things but had so many other places on our list. But one night we were at the hotel and worn out. When I checked, this location was only two blocks away. Two very cold (below 20 degrees) blocks but close enough to walk. Make a reservation on open table or prepare to wait. It is that popular. On the first visit, we got the spinach dip and I got the cheeseburger. Damn, son. This burger is awesome. So awesome that my mouth is watering as I think about it. So awesome that I am considering abandoning my flight and going get another one. But seriously, get the burger. The fries that accompany it are equally great. My one complaint is that they only bring one ramekin of ketchup. I used like five. I love me some ketchup. The second night we got the crab and artichoke dip. Holy hell man. This is awesome too. I decided to skip the burger and get steak and frites with macaroni and cheese. This was also great! We also tried apple pie, chocolate cake, and death by chocolate sundae. Cracker crusted shrimp was joke,they took already cooked shrimp,maybe for shrimp appetizer,and made thick and awful breading,whole dish was dry and nonsensical. Another fish on the table was signature fried chicken and biscuit. What a shame!!!! With biscuit it was absolutely same situation rock hard,non suitable to eat and fried chicken was fried maybe on the morning and was heated in microwave. Otherwise ,I can't imagine that not crunchy ,dry and rubbery texture of chicken. Manager wasn't explain what happened,just silently take of the bill one entree. What a nice space, very comfortable. My breakfast street tacos were delicious with nice serving of well prepared hash browns. Sat and the bar and the bartender was kind and very accommodating. If I have any grievance it's with the guards at the door. Hardly anyone at any of the tables, but they took our names and made us stand there until they printed out a ticket and then maybe seated you.
