My husband and I are big fans of the farm to table style meals, so while in DC this was a must try. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was excellent. Our meal was delicious, my husband noting the mussels were the best he's ever had in America. I do wish the vegetables I had were cooked a little more as they were firm, but that's just a personal preference probably. However, my steak was cooked perfectly. We also enjoyed the crab dip and spicy tuna wontons. I got one of their seasonal cocktails which was delicious and fresh, and their house made candy bars were incredible. So so so disappointing! I'm surprised that this restaurant continues to be popular despite the rip off in quality of food. I'd been to Founding Farmers a few years back and didn't recall it being an extremely bad experience. I decided to try it again but unfortunately as vegetarians we were left disappointed. They do have a whole meatless section and side dishes, but wow, the taste was barely anything and just cooked with no seasoning. We got the sides of French-Cut Green Beans (neither any flavor nor interesting texture whatsoever and a little undercooked). The Zucchini & Peas was the bare minimum in taste value. For the veggie main options, quite a few could only be made using egg (e.g. the bread of the sandwich and bun of burger are made with egg). They couldn't even replace them with regular store quality bread or buns, which I would think is not too much to ask for. We ended up having a Salad, Cauliflower Steak, Veggie Cheeseburger, and Veggie Loaf. Funnily enough, after figuring out what we could have for a long time, the salad came with a bread on top. We easily removed it, but still that was funny. I had the Cauliflower Steak. I'm not one to choose that dish often, but I thought they might give an interesting spin on it. I was so wrong. It came with the same tasteless green beans, tasteless mushroom risotto (I don't even remember really tasting mushroom) and really not memorable cauliflower. Everyone else didn't really thoroughly enjoy their dishes. Probably the Veggie Loaf was the most doable, but still the least that can be expected from this caliber of a restaurant. For dessert, I got one of the few eggless options, which was the Chocolate Strawberries. I got the 5 for $10.99 option. The presentation was so bad lol, they were just placed on a plate, no effort, like if one were to haphazardly place them at home after they're just made. They were alright in taste, but for the price and reputation of the restaurant, extremely disappointing. Given the long wait time, steep prices and the additional service charge for the sub-par quality in food, I would not recommend coming here, especially as vegetarians. I increased the stars to two stars from one because my mom had left her phone in the restaurant and they put it in their safe, so we were able to pick it up the next day. Thank you! read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. This spot was recommended by my hotel and it did not disappoint! For my party of 2 it was a 45min wait for a table. I don't do well with long waits so I was able to snag a spot for us at the bar after about 10 mins. Be sure to cancel your place in line if you sit at the bar. My server/bartender was amazing and so helpful! The menu options are endless and you can order breakfast, lunch or brunch items so I was a little overwhelmed, but she guided me with a list of her favorites. I got the pickled veggies and the shrimp bucatini. THAT PASTA WAS AMAZING! It's handmade and worth every single bite. My partner got the mini cheeseburgers, fries and Mac and cheese. Listen, if you're from the south like we are it isn't your normal mac and cheese, so don't get your hopes up. It was still very good though. Everything was delicious but not necessarily mind blowing. Some dishes are portioned a lot larger than others- for example, the pancake plate was massive and overhelming while the "farmers breakfast" (two eggs, choice of meat/bread/side) was very small and hardly filled the plate. I will say the pancakes are incredibly yummy and fluffy, just way too much. The farmers breakfast is average, I've had better at other places- scrambled eggs are good but the sausages are very greasy and the bacon is not generously portioned. However, they have great oatmeal, which is not something often on breakfast menus. Otherwise, the waiters and staff are friendly and food comes out quickly. Popular restaurant but easy to make 7pm reservations because this place is huge and they pack in as many tables as possible. Lots of people waiting on a Monday but we were seated in about 10 min. Service was a little slow but we weren't in a hurry. Lots of options on the menu. Hubs had 12 oz ribeye ($36). Was thin cut so half was overcooked but still a decent value is you just want a lot of meat. The fish special ($35) was a good portion of Massachusetts rockfish (I think; it was hard to hear the server) on a huge bed of Parmesan risotto and a few tiny veggies. Fish was tasty, well cooked and flaky. Espresso martini was ok; would opt for wine next time. Separate 5% charge added to bill for employee benefits or something. The ingredients stand out at well-prepared with less processed items. This iconic restaurant has taken a dive in service, unfortunately. I hesitate to give this score, but for the second time in a row, the serving staff was either inattentive or disorganized. I was squinting into the sun, and the staff should have pulled down the blinds sooner rather than let their tables bake in the heat. Founding farmers was a very good choice in restaurant selection- several people recommended it and it was on my list. We actually went for dinner one night then we came back for breakfast the next morning. I had made a reservation for dinner, and we needed it but for breakfast it was almost empty so I do t think we needed one, it was for a Friday. Maybe on the weekend you do but it was pretty empty for breakfast. For dinner I got the chicken and waffles. They gave you half of a Belgian style waffle and two big pieces of fried chicken. I could only eat one piece of chicken and wasted the other but I would have liked a full waffle so it was very unbalanced. The green beans were fresh and the Mac and cheese was really good. Big pieces of pennoni but wasn't stringy cheesy but was still good. I also had a margarita which was nice and could "feel" the alcohol but wore off once I ate. For dessert each one of us got something different. I got the " beignet" but I was very disappointed. They were basically dough balls and were still a little gooey on the outside. They were huge and tough on the outside but gooey inside. Three sauces chocolate strawberry and Carmel all real not artificial. I ate one then I was done. But they make their own ice cream, candy bars, all kinds of things. I should of had their own peanut butter cup. For breakfast I got the French toast (AMAZING) with blueberry compote. The Aztec latte was "spicy" with spices I didn't like it. They had house cold brew which was good. The French toast was almost deep fried it seemed, so crispy and crunch then on the inside it was soft. Towards the last price it got a little soggy. Next time I would get hashbrowns too they were good. Service was fine, pretty good. It was hustle and bustle at dinner time. The inside was tastefully decorated with cute lights and accents. Down stairs has only two bathrooms but upstairs there's two more. They do have different locations and they dont serve the same things necessarily so if you want something specific make sure you call and ask if you're going to the right place. They do locally source or make from scratch everything so that is cool! Go try the French toast and a homemade candy bar! read more

Great restaurant with large indoor and outdoor seating between GWU and White House. Lots of light but downstairs inside is kind of noisy. Upstairs is quieter. Cornbread was very good. Selection of three sides provided three separate very tasty dishes. The gnocchi with sausage and mushrooms was spectacularly flavorful. We made a reservation on the openTable app the night before for 9:15 am, and we got there a few minutes late and the servers were still accommodating. We started off with the uncle buck's beignets; they give you six of those as well three kinds of sauces. The raspberry one was the best out of the three, triumphing over the chocolate and caramel sauce. The beignets came nice and crispy and warm, generously topped off with powdered sugar. I ordered chef Joe's special and got it with a side of hash browns and the buttermilk biscuit, just to try. Hash browns are actually already scrambled into the eggs, so after ordering and receiving my food it kind of felt unnecessary to have ordered that on the side. The biscuit and scramble were both really good. Overall, a great breakfast and the meal was very filling.
