Just had prolly the biggest club sando of my life. Bread was amazing and had the perfect combo of crunch and softness. Primo meats, cheese and crispy veg made this sando so tasty, and more than enough for two people. I stopped by Fox and Lion's new location in the Mission last week. I frequented the bakery when it was in Bayview and really loved their pizza. I hadn't really tried their sandwiches before. So this time I tried the Zimmerman sandwich and wow-it was great! The bread was amazing-fresh, tasty, a little crispy but not hard on the teeth. The ingredients were wonderful together (I added pickles and Calabrian chilies). It was the best sandwich I've had in a while and I will definitely be back. read more

Fox and Lion has some of the most unique house made breads I've ever found. The toast loaf is amazing and I usually buy two to freeze one for later. They also have a great selection of specialty grocery items to stock up on. Highly recommend stopping in for a bagel or pastry for breakfast and taking a loaf home to make toast. read more

My first impression: horrible customer service. I walked in and was curious about their bakery. I'm new to the area and wanted know how long they've been around. I asked a few normal questions- trying to spark a friendly conversation. In response, the owner was extremely standoffish and short with me. I did not feel welcome at all, there was no warm greeting when I entered but her demeanor changed dramatically when my wife came in (who is white) They gave her a menu but never offered one to me. After I decided I didn't want the menu I went back to return it so I didn't waste it and when I walked in the owner was saying "why does it matter how long we've been here". Pretty rude. We will not be back. Why would you react negatively to a black man entering your business when your business is in a black neighborhood? read more

Had the lox bagel, which, at $9, was a pretty good value given how much fish you get. The texture of the bagel is also superior to most bagels in the bay area. I didn't care for the cream cheese though. It was too soft, bordering on yogurty. This made it fallout with every bite and made the whole thing messier than necessary. The sandwiches are uniquely delicious. So far I've tried the Terry's Veggie, the Green Dream, and the Mary's Special. Also the baguette. This is one of my favorite neighborhood stops. I have tried several sandwiches and each one has been delicious. My current favorite is the portabella sandwich. It is Open faced and features pecorino perfecto cheese and grilled onions. It is closely followed by the house-made pizza in my affections. The house made bread is delicious. To wash things down, you cant go wrong with coffee or maybe an Italian beverage. I usually go for a San Pellegrino, and usually the limonata, But I recently tried the Lemoncocco. To quote their website "This is an awesome drink!" It's lemon juice with coconut creme. It' not carbonated and positively delicious cold. It's not sweet and quite refreshing. It will probably be my go to when I stop in. I am partial to sweets. If your, try a cookie or pastry. they are delicious and make a rainy day or lonely cup of coffee better. Sweet new spot that I believe moved to the Mission from its original location in the Bayview. Feels like its been in the neighborhood for years, has super reasonable prices, and plenty of seating. Offers several vegan options from pizza to sandwiches to cinnamon rolls. Pizza crust is the perfect combo of crisp on the outside-chewy inside and loved the potatoes on top which you don't see often. Also enjoyed a grassy nettles iced tea from their Mushroom and Adaptogen Tonics menu. Friendly staff and dreamy blue-grass music were a huge pluses. Get yourself over to Fox and Lion! read more

Very rough location and limited seating but I'm here for the food and drinks. Their food has wonderful options however I'd like to buy a loaf of their homemade bread. You know what's underrated? A god damn good sandwich. And I'm not talking about the $19 sandwich that falls apart when you try to bite into it. I'm not talking about the sandwich that has an over-easy egg that ultimately runs down your chin so that you literally and figuratively have egg on your face. Im talking about a sandwich that makes you think of a Bach fugue. Where the meat is the soprano, the alto is the veggies/spread, and the bread is the bass. All working in perfect contrapuntal harmony within the insides of your mouth. I'm talking about a god damn sandwich that has proper proportions, flavorful ingredients, radical bread, and that stays together the whole way through. The fillings of a sandwich don't mean shit if the bread isn't radical. I had the breakfast frittata sandwich and the very nice human working the register recommended the "Mary's" sandwich, which had turkey, mozzarella, peppers, and onion. Both were extremely delicious and makes me want to come back and try other offerings. In an area surrounded by fried food, burritos, and Chinese food, this is a great option for when you want to feel full but not hate yourself afterwards. Check how many reviews I've done. It's not many. That's because I'm just a simple man. A simple man, who, at the very end of the day in this cold and bitter world governed by American imperialism, loves himself a god damn good sandwich. read more

I go in here frequently. There are only a couple of good sandwich places in the neighborhood and one is really expensive (Chuck's Takeaway - From Slanted Door). I always get the sandwiches because I love the bread. It's the only decent bread maker in the Mission. There are places you can get Acme. This bread is great for sandwiches. Friday night is pizza night and it is seriously the best pizza I've ever had. My husband and two kids agreed. Everything is homemade and fresh. The crust was crispy and flavorful (since when does crust actually taste good?)! The sauce was perfection. I am gushing. A fantastic cozy and friendly neighborhood spot worthy of a visit no matter where you live in San Francisco. Hungry after a short morning run, this artisan bakery caught my eye. And nose! I was welcomed by the smell of freshly baked bread and Xan, the baker and owner. The cinnamon roll was gooey and warm and the frittata, just perfect. I washed it all down with a delicious cup of coffee and a mocha. She uses the finest ingredients and is a master of her craft. Thanks Xan for sharing your delicious food!
