Another great place in Melrose. I came to Melrose back in the late 80's. Folks who know, know! Coming back to LA I read the old Melrose is gone. Not true. Places like this are anchors and the experience was great. Perfect staff. Perfect food. We even bought some swag to help the business. Pretty bummed about my brunch... went super basic and got the Salmon Scramble and that was not gucci. It was my bad for assuming it was smoked salmon, but it was straight up salmon. I've never had a straight up salmon scramble, so I was thrown off. Anyway, it was not gucci, because it wasn't super flavorful and was pretty dry. The side potatoes were also more salty than this review. This is valid, because my friend ordered the same thing and we both agreed. They also tasted stale then microwaved and sent to us. Not gouda. The French toast was pretty standard, nothing special. But the Big Ben was special. I've never had or seen a filet mignon Benedict and this wasn't too bad. Would've given this a higher rating if everything else wasn't just ok. Even the mocha was whatever... pluses are all day breakfast or brunch (some items excluded) and the Big Ben! read more

I just wanted to take a second to commend them on their customer service. I came in early morning after Thanksgiving and the girls behind the counter were so cheery and helpful. Very cute cafe! It was the first cafe we visited in Los Angeles. The staff was very friendly. I had the French toast with avocado and home made potatoes on the side. The food was good. They gave large portion of French toast. It was all tasty. We also ordered chicken and waffles. The coffee and expresso were good as well. The food was served rather quickly. I loved that they allow dogs. I notice a dog walking around the store. I loved it! The atmosphere was nice, calm and laid back. I feel like I could sit there for a while and have a cup of coffee or be on my laptop. All I can say it food is good I would come here again for breakfast in LA. read more

I had breakfast at Fratelli's this morning and was shocked how many houseflies were swarming inside the place. I took several photos that I can include. I know that this time of year there are many flies in Los Angeles but I have never seen so many inside a restaurant. Perhaps they have an open door in the ktichen of some other violation. Small intimate restaurant with outdoor seating that serves breakfast/lunch/dinner menu all day! We came early Saturday morning for a quick bite to eat and was pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the atmosphere. We were greeted by the owner and sat outside on the patio which was great since it was a rainy morning, we were able to listen to the raindrops while enjoying our breakfast. It's never too early to start your day with a Bloody Mary! Got one of those and a fresh squeezed OJ. Derish. We people watched from our seats and occasionally petted the owner's dog that freely walks around. Venus is her name, and she keeps to herself and won't beg for food so no worries. He ordered the Everly breakfast burrito with turkey bacon, peppers, mushroom, and some veggies. I ordered the chicken avocado panini sandwich that consisted of good chunks of chicken, aioli sauce, lettuce, tomato, and a generous amount of yummy avocado. Our dishes came with 1 choice of side so he ordered house potatoes and I had a bowl of fruits. Great atmosphere! After getting discouraged from the long lines at nearby brunch places on Melrose - DD and I stumbled upon Fratelli Cafe. After seeing the cute little dog that hangs out in front of the cafe - we were SOLD! The owners MUST be super cool! Everybody is extremely friendly here! We sat in the tented outside patio and watched the dog scurrying around. After reviewing an extensive menu - we decided to go for breakfast options. I ordered "The Jackson's" ($9.95) - Omelette with chicken breast, tomato, cilantro, monterey jack cheese - all topped with a few slices of avocado. The omelete was nicely sized and delicious. Nice of them to offer a healthier option! DD ordered "The Bee Gee's" ($9.95) - Scrambled eggs (requested scrambled) with turkey bacon, tomatos, bell peppers, feta cheese, mushroom. He was happy with the portions and all the ingredients. As side options between cottage cheese, fruit or potato - I ordered the cottage cheese (but later drooled @ DD's potatoes). I will take potatoes over the small little bowl of cottage cheese that I got anyday! They also let you choose between toast, english muffin, or a bagel and we went with bagels. DO THE BAGEL OPTION! Their bagels are awesome! I ordered the jalapeno cheese - spicy and cheesy deliciousness! DD ordered the cinnamon raisin - which was cinnamon sweet! Came here for Saturday brunch with a friend. The wait for the two of us around 11:30 am was ~20-30 mins. I got the Croissant French Toast and WOW... it was so good!!! It's soft and pillowy! My friend got the Shakshuka which was also yummy. It came with house potatoes which were delightfully crispy and tasty. I also got freshly squeezed OJ which perfectly complimented my French Toast. Overall, a solid brunch spot with good vibes. I'm excited to come again to try more of their food! Parking is terrible but it's Melrose on a Saturday so it's of course expected. I came on a Sunday for brunch around peak hours and they weren't completely full. No wait. A majority of the seating is actually in an enclosed outdoor area out front. The actual inside has only a few seats. It seems to be more of a takeout place than anything else. In any case, I tried the Jacksons scrambled eggs which comes with a few sides. I got the bagel and fruit. My friend got the shatshuka dish with potatoes and toast. I think everything was just OK. It wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't anything unique. We ended with a shared banana waffle which had Nutella on it. It was decent but the waffle was cold. My girlfriend, like many dudes' girlfriends in this area, is an aspiring actress. Well, one of the places she practices her craft happens to be very near this cafe. Because of this, I found myself meeting her for tea (I don't drink coffee, I'm way too stuck up) and snacks at this dope corner cafe. A man's got to see his woman from time to time...Don't I live with her??? When I arrived, I had just gotten done with a three hour interview and was desperately in need of something to chill me out. I was tied up in knots so tight I almost yelled at an old lady's for smiling at me...not really, but you get the point. Luckily, I was on my way to the right spot. What I was expecting was a regular old cafe that was the same as all the others. What I got was a cafe with top shelf products and damn cool people. Their teas are all from Taiwan, their salads are freshy fresh and they even plated my cookie with a fork Seinfeld style. Now what you must understand about Moonshine is that I am a snob (amongst other things) when it comes to my tea. I've got an entire corner of my kitchen devoted to the storage of tea and perpetual boiling of water to precise temperatures. All my 'ish is high mountain! Anyway, their tea is top notch. I was pumped. And when they poured it, they do so into glass and politely followed my request to take leaves out and refill partially to get the exact infusion I was looking for. Not to mention, when I wanted to know the music, they quickly ushered me to the back and showed me the site where they were getting the music. I felt hella important. Like, "Oh yeah. Fratelli. Yeah, I'm friends with the owner," important. Every time I had a question or odd request, they hooked it up. They were very laid back yet active in their service. Perfect combination. OMG the waiter I had, he was a young light skinned black dude... I fail to remember his name.... AWESOME. He was effervescent and just down right incredible. I am not saying he was there any time we needed to blow our noses (damn pollen!) but his personality made the whole experience enjoyable. Funny thing is I don't remember my meal so much. I'm sure it was decent. I know I ordered a turkey panini, minus the panini bread and heat (ok so it was really a turkey sandwich in that case, but the menu would have you think different) and my signature go-to, tea latte. Again, my latte was not a latte, but heated milk in a breakfast tea, poo... but c'est la vie, if that's my major gripe of the day I have a good life. I remember thinking the food was decent enough to go again, but nothing incredible. You know what was? ... yeah the waiter.... AND the fact that my girlfriend (whom lives close to here) were catching up on our lives and didn't realize that we were talking for over 2 hours and they didn't try to scoot us out. When we came to that realization, I was like..."whoa... did I just revisit Europe?" (The Fratelli employees are probably going to hate me for letting you know about that fact, since no waiter wants to wait for one of their tables to open... but it really did deserve the 30% tip I left). All in all a great experience in a cute cafe in an awesome part of town. Enjoy the street art all around, my girlfriend can't stand it... but I LOVE graff art... then again, I probably wouldn't want to live right next to where people do it though. BTW, if you are NOT dog friendly or have severe allergies to dogs, don't stop here. The owner (?) has a dog that chills out on the patio (dog bed and all) and constantly walks between the tables. It's been several months-possibly over a year-since I've had the chance to visit Fratelli's and when I was in the neighborhood recently, I jumped at the chance. A renovation was completed to bring the ordering area closer to the front, and the although I didn't get a chance to check out the seating along the left side, it appeared as though a booth was added. I was happy to see my vanilla bianca latte still on the menu, but was anxious as I had started drinking soy last year and wasn't sure how this would affect the taste. Had absolutely nothing to worry about; this beverage was still fantastic. I ordered some potatoes and turkey bacon to go, and I couldn't believe I took this long to enjoy Fratelli's again. Service was still the same friendly guys I remembered from past, and the only thing missing was 'Venus' who had the day off. Definitely worth a stop if you're local, and I'll make more effort in 2016 to return more frequently- Street parking, metered/neighborhood. Don't worry, street cleaning on either side is done in the very early AM hours. read more

First off I have to comment on the ingenuity of the waitlist process; provide name and cell and you are in a digital queue and can see how you are progressing up in the line. First time for me. Way cool. So we knew we had time to walk around the block before seating. Perfect. It's a charming place with outdoor seating right now. The manager/owner/gentleman running the show was a great leader of this operation. The command he had over everything was amazing. Not a missed move. I had the gentleman taking the orders surprise me by ordering for me. He nailed it! He orders me the Biscuit Benny. Holy cow did it hit the spot! Son had a smoothie which he said was amazing and a great waffle with bananas and chocolate. Good coffee. Great place. Will be back one day! read more
