I just had lunch here and thought I would write my review while the memories are fresh. Overall it was a great sandwich. The taste was good and it was served piping hot. The only real downside was the size, a little small in my opinion. I had a large #4 (Extra Meat Cheesesteak), a bag of chips, and a soda. And unfortunately, I was still hungry when I was done. To be fair, I am a big guy and a big eater. However, I overheard the table next to me, and the gentlemen there ate his large sandwich, an order of fries, and half of his wife's sandwich. And he was a normal sized guy... All in all I probably be back when I'm in the mood for a cheesesteak, I just will have to order two sandwiches or something. read more

I go here once a week. This is my favorite place to eat in the Dallas area. I highly recommend the Cheesesteak.

Update 9/20/17: After almost a month of my initial visit and 18 days from my contact with them about my incorrect charge, I finally have it adjusted. Monday I called them again and was told by the afternoon manager that I need to speak with the morning manager because she handled the money. After some back and forth (I did remain polite), I agreed to wait and contact her. He then called me back a few mins later and said he spoke with the other manager and I'm okay to get a refund. I picked up my refund (just the overage of the amount I was charged) on Tuesday, 9/19. The manager explained they couldn't find a receipt for me and they had another issue with their machine so said she'd recommend it be looked into. I was thankful for finally getting the money back. Like I told them, the food itself was good. But honestly, don't know if I'd return because it took way too long to get this resolved. In short, pay cash if you go. Adding this (9/23/17) because I received a "you're funny" compliment from someone I assume is associated with this restaurant who stated I did not provide my receipt or bank statement, but was still given a refund: I acknowledged in my updated review that I FINALLY received a refund. Also, I advised everyone I spoke with over the phone that I no longer had the receipt and I had no issue with the actual food so threw the receipt away after eating. I was asked about my credit card statement, but was told I would get a call back, which didn't happen. When I went to pick up my refund, I offered to show my credit card statement, but was told I didn't need to. I'm no fan on stupid long reviews, but I guess it's necessary in this case. Initial review 9/10/17: Writing this review because I had an overcharge on my credit card and have yet to receive a call back from the manager. The food itself was okay and hot. I also liked that they have a sauce because sometimes Philly cheesesteaks can be dry to me. The crab fries were nothing special. However, I won't ever return. I'm content giving 1-star because the food was okay. I visited this location 8/26/17 and ordered a 6" Philly cheesesteak w/ no onions and crab fries. The guy taking was kind enough (not overly, but kind enough) so I added $1 tip to my receipt, signed and handed it to him. With that $1 tip my order should have been $7.88 plus tax. Got home, ate, and felt I'd be okay with returning and eating from there again. But not anymore. Fast forward to 9/1/17, when I happen to check my credit card statement online. And I'm thankful I did because I rarely closely review it. I notice a charge from Fred's Downtown Philly for $16.10. I call the store and a guy answers, jots down my info, and says the manager will give me a call later. It was 7:19pm when I called. I did not get a call back that evening and I was okay with that because it was a little late. Fast forward to today, 9/10/17, when I am searching Yelp for someplace to try for dinner and scroll upon Fred's. I remember I haven't received a call from the manager so I try calling. No answer, but apparently they are closed today. My credit card statement still has a $16.10 charge. I'm a reasonable person and am trying to allow Fred's the opportunity to resolve this, but that's tough when unable to reach the proper person. I feel like way too much time has passed. I'll take some blame because between 9/1-9/10, I should have followed up, but also, the manager should have contacted me. read more

This is the best Philly Cheese steak place in Dallas. I used to go to Texadelphia but when I friend from Philly told me about Fred's this is the only place I will get my cheese steak fix! Awesome customer service! If you don't want to wait I would suggest ordering online (they make it when you order it). This place is hands down the best Philly Cheesesteak place in the metroplex! It's authentic and it's better than Gino's or Pat's in Philly! The owner is from Philadelphia and knows how to make great Philly cheesesteaks!! Restaurant has many iconic Philadelphia pictures so it's not very hard to recognize the owner is from Philly. So if you love real authentic cheesesteak, then make sure you come to Fred's as you will not be disappointed! Staff is super friendly and they have other lunch items on their menu such as their delicious hamburgers if your not feeling cheesesteak. Also their crab fries and their onion rings are also great!!! Probably the best cheesesteak in Dallas. I get the #4 which is extra meat. I love the bread to meat ratio. Too many places have a large roll but this place uses a smaller bread. The beef is juicy and i like the Cajun seasoning you can put on top. I had to update my review because i noticed something absolutely ridiculous on my bill. I always get extra onions and there's never an up-charge but today i got it with lettuce and i was charged 15 cents for it. It's not the price it's the principle of being charged for lettuce. Absolutely ridiculous! It's bad management who charges for something like lettuce that will piss off customers like myself. I've never in my life been charged for lettuce on anything. The real deal! On my inaugural visit, I kept it simple and got the #2 "wit whiz". So it's just steak and onions with cheese whiz. The bun was right on, soft and slightly chewy. The meat was flavorful and done right. The ambience is perfect for this food genre- kind of a hole in the wall but clean and the staff were friendly. I have been a frequent diner at Fred's for a while now. Reading some of the other reviews I felt it necessary to say this: Fred's has decent meal with good pricing, I personally order the #4 with extra cheese and the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich comes out piping hot and very good every time with more fries than I can eat by myself. The AC does work! It just struggled like crazy with the heat we had this year, didn't we all!
