    Tosti Elote
    Ella A.

3/1/2023 - lunch date with my seaSTAR. On our way to grab a fat burrito at El Farolito, we passed by Freshito and what caught our eyes were the sign that said "Elote." I've had my fair share of Elote from street vendors and SJ's flea market, but never have I ever had Elote elevated with a bed of Mexican-brand Tostitos. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Where have I been all these years? I must have been living under a rock to never have tried "Tosti Elote." Crispy-crunchity (I know it's not a word, but it's my word that I like to use) Tostitos adds not only texture but saltiness that married harmoniously with the creamy and cheesy Elote. Dabs of "Veronica" sauce, chili powder and tajin added a slight kick (needed more chili powder). The only ingredient they didn't add was freshly squeezed lime juice. Thank goodness we had some from our burrito run. Although it's delicious, without the freshly squeezed lime juice, it's too heavy to eat. Portions are huge. I'm so spoiled with having my Elote made with freshly cut sweet corn so it came as a slight disappointment because Freshito seems to use frozen corn. It didn't have enough sweetness nor tenderness, neither did it have the burst of corn juiciness that you'd get from fresh corn. It would have been an easy 5 stars if they did use fresh vs. frozen. Sweet, salty, spicy, tender, juicy, crunchy, cheesy, creamy and acidic. This is what makes a fantastic Elote! Although it missed some marks, it still hit the spot.

Sometimes you just need a mangonada. OK, maybe you don't need one, but I do. Even after a hefty lunch down Mission. Even after promising myself I'd watch my calorie intake before trundling my way home. But alas, Freshito beckoned at my weakest moment with their sidewalk sandwich board (photo: https://bit.ly/3NWjrXN). There was a highly visible picture of a mangonada, so of course, I peeked inside and was impressed to discover 26 similar treats on their menu. But number one with a bullet was... ...the $6.75 Medium Mangonada. The staff was chatting away at a booth, so I waved hesitantly at them for service. A woman constructed my mangonada with ease..,a big scoop of mango sorbet, chunks of fresh mango, chamoy, tajin chili powder, jabalina candy, and more chili powder (photo: https://bit.ly/3JkigxK). It was the right combination of sweet and spicy, and I sat myself on the sole plastic chair at the entryway. Back on my Excelsior journey. Oh dear, I forgot to input the calories into the MyFitnessPal app...or did I? MANGONADA - 4 stars...traditional mix of sweet and spicy,..could've used more sorbet AMBIANCE - 4 stars...yep, it's an ice cream parlor SERVICE - 4 stars....she didn't skimp on the serving size TOTAL - 4 stars...mangonada on my mind RELATED - Exploring the Excelsior? Fresas con créma

First time coming here since we were getting food next door and it was super good considering I've never really had this kind of dessert before. We got elote and fresas con crema and both were really good. The elote came in a medium sized container definitely with the price and the cup of fresas con crema was full of strawberries. Will be coming back next time I'm in the area

If you're looking for a delicious snack or quick bite, come check this place out! I was craving esquites and my boyfriend came across this place on Yelp. Its located on Mission, next to El Farolito. We walked in and were greeted by the nice two ladies who were working. We ordered two esquites and a small fresas con crema, total came out to $17ish which is not too bad! They offer dine-in, so we sat and enjoyed our food. They really hook you up with the corn and they are not skimpy on the seasoning and toppings. I couldn't even finish mine and ended up getting so full after. For $5.50 you really get your moneys worth. As for the fresas con crema, the fruit was fresh and not too tart. I just wish they added more granola, but overall super tasty and not to sweet. Cravings were definitely satisfied! Cant wait to come back for more :)

Fresh Strawberry Juice w/ tamarind Candy straw

A stroll through the neighborhood and their catchy name and sign posted of desserts caught my eye. They offer juices, crepes, elotes, ice cream, mangonadas, and fresh cut fruit. Yum. I've been here a couple of times and the last time being yesterday. The same man greeted us and took our order. They do practice social distancing and safety procedures. We chose the Fresas con Crema (strawberries w/ cream), Mangonada, and some fresh strawberry juice. You pick and choose which fruits you want in your fruit bowl and they'll chop them up in front of you. What I love about this place is not only their service but the freshness of the fruits and ingredients they use. Flavorful and delicious.

It's been a while since I had a good crepe, maybe the last time was when I was in France, and this one brought back those memories. The crepe itself was thin and soft, folded up with warm Nutella and fresh banana inside, topped with walnuts, with a dollop of whipped cream on the side. The walnuts gave it a nice bit of crunch, and the whipped cream added just the right touch of extra sweetness without going overboard. Simple yet good. The fruit cup was a nice balance too, all fresh fruit, nothing out of season. If you're looking for a tasty crepe, check this place out. I'll be curious how their savory ones taste as well.

Not to mention, their portions are pretty big so definitely come with an appetite! Most recently I ordered the Philly crepe sharing half of it with my sister who ordered the blackened chicken sandwich. Both items were good, my preference was their fries as opposed to their country potatoes (which were good too). I love that they offer a side salad as well. Pretty quick service, servers are nice and there's ample space (indoor and outdoor seating offered). Definitely a good place for breakfast/brunch/lunch. I frequently get one of their salads as they are fresh and plentiful. However, recently I got the Cancun as I Love all the ingredients ~ Romaine lettuce, Black beans, corn, red onions, Avocado Ranch dressing (served over a flour tortilla which is new to me) topped w/Charbroiled Chicken = $18.50 What a huge disappointment. Half of this salad was just Romaine lettuce, no corn, 1T of black beans, no red onion and red peppers instead. I had to "hunt for the ingredients". I asked for another bowl just for the lettuce alone and it filled up another bowl. Which left me w/the skimpiest of ingredients I have ever seen. Plus the romaine lettuce was in huge chunks incuding the core of the lettuce. There was a tiny side of tortilla strips and I asked for the tortilla on the side, glad I did. The chicken was at least decent and plentiful. For the price it was a total waste of money. Wish I'd taken a picture. And the cashier is really rude.

I know, wishful thinking but French crêpes is such a great treat esp when you're in need of comfort food.   Grande Crêperie opened just in time to get into fall/winter pudge pudge shape! This second location in the city is a crêperie window located at the side of La Marais Bakery at 18th and Sanchez streets (look for the "I *Croissant* SF" mural). The Brittany-style savory buckwheat galette was soft and chewy with delicately crispy edges. The melty gruyere+aged comté added a layer of rich nuttiness with a nice salty bite from the thin slice of ham (not overly salty). Not as rich and buttery as other galettes I've had so I easily ate the entire thing myself.   The accompanying side salad of peppery arugula, sweet tomatoes, and parm dressed in a tangy vinaigrette added freshness and balance.
