My favorite place when I'm in NYC because it's attached to my hotel whether I stay at the Edison or the paramount. The food is hearty and comforting. I like their meatloaf and mashed potatoes during winter vacations. I was specific about not wanting over-scrambled eggs and thankfully they heeded that. The price tag on this breakfast was almost $20, which seems a bit ridiculous to me, but we were eating mere steps from Time Square, so I guess I understand the markup. Anywhere else, this breakfast is maybe $10. The others in our group seemed to enjoy their food, and the peach Bellini I had, though expensive, was nice. So, I enjoyed my meal, but the people I was with didn't and I'll tell you why. The meal took a long time to come and my wife's was about five minutes later than the rest of ours. I think it's important to bring out everything at once, so we eat together. They didn't. That in and of itself wasn't a big deal. However, the pancakes were terrible. Two in our party couldn't even cut through them. We did tell the waitress who, at first didn't understand us, then said she would have to take the whole meal away and couldn't just bring us edible pancakes (the pancakes were one part of a bigger plate.). That didn't make sense and we didn't want to wait another twenty minutes for them to bring another plate. The waitress didn't even say she was sorry, but I think that was a language issue. She wouldn't get the manager either. Again, that could have been the language. I hadn't realized, but sure enough in letters half the size of the letters describing the various pancakes, it said "gluten free" written below the other descriptions. If gluten free doesn't provide the taste and texture I am looking for, then make it optional. So we settled for 2 sandwiches. One was turkey, avocado, pepper jack, and the other was grilled chicken, with gruyere. Both were excellent, and left me torn whether to give them a 3 or a 4. First and second time dining at Friedman's, this one is located at the Hotel Edison near Times Square, where I was staying for a couple of nights while in the city. I've never been to a Friedman's but there are several locations scattered around NYC. I came here first for dinner and had their signature Friedman's Burger, angus beef and fries. Service was great, served quickly. And the burger was delish. They also had an area where singers were performing Broadway songs at the other half of the restaurant. Definitely great entertainment for the evening and fit the vibe of the restaurant. The next morning I had breakfast here. I had French toast which was soo good! For years I've heard rave reviews on celiac travel pages about Friedman's in NYC. I perused the menu, paralyzed by the possibilities. I changed my mind 10 times before I actually was walking in the door. On a cold, rainy, winter day, there was nothing more enticing than a grilled cheese coupled with tomato soup and sweet potato fries. Every bite was satisfying. This can't possibly be the gluten free plate, I thought to myself as the flavors danced their way through my digestive tract. I never thought I'd be so happy to sit and enjoy a grilled cheese with such wonderful company my cousins. So I've been here twice now. Each time I enjoy my food but there's always little things that happen that put a damper on my experience. The first time I came, I asked for the Mac and cheese instead of fries. They forgot about the Mac and cheese and by the time I actually got it, everyone else in my party already finished eating. However, the Mac and cheese was so yummy! My main meal was the turkey burger which I found bland. The second time, everyone in my party received their meal, and then mine didn't show up for five minutes after everyone else's. But again, the chicken sandwich I had (pictured) was so good, I would totally order it again... and again. The bacon jam was delightful. They don't take reservations and will only seat you if your party is there fully. So take that into consideration. They also have a pretty prime location in Times Square close to multiple theaters, so it's a nice option for a pre show dinner. The bathroom situation is strange. The restaurant is connected to a hotel and you have to use the hotel lobby bathrooms. The bathrooms are always crowded and messy (they are also super small). Amazing gluten free chicken and waffle! Even my non-gluten free husband loved it. He also liked the pastrami and hash and single pancake on the side. My niece devoured her french toast. Big plus is that almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free. Don't be intimidated by the wait time. We were told the wait on a Sunday morning at 11 am would be 45 minutes but we were seated in less than 10 minutes. We also really liked our server Seyda. I think that there was a kitchen timing error because one person in my group had ordered a beyond burger, and the burger and the fries were stone cold when it came out to the table. However, the rest of the food was warm and amazing! When we alerted the server about the cold food, they were nothing but nice about it and remade the burger and reheated the fries immediately. Also, the spinach and artichoke dip was superb, although they don't give enough chips to dip with it. We ordered more bread to finish the rest of the dip.
