I really like the avocado toast. Poached egg tops the avocado toast. Perfect texture so it doesn't becomes runny completely and still stands atop the toast. These little details are pretty spectacular here. Recommend a bit more salt on this to your liking and a squeeze of lemon. Also a cold remedy that completely saved me on this trip. After struggling to decide what to have, I chose the pastrami hash and it was delicious. It was so savory, I could taste the pastrami, and some of the fattiness of the meat was there as well. The hash was great in taste and texture and the eggs were a perfect sunny side up so that the whites were cooked through and the yolk was slightly runny. Friemans is located inside the Edison hotel. My bf and I went there for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I heard that there normally is a long wait for seating so I called ahead to find out how long the wait was, and there was no wait. We may just have gone at a good time because after we got seated, more people started to show up and there was a wait. When we were seated, we automatically received waters and a whole jug of water was placed on the table in case we needed a refill. I love how the staff here asks if you have any allergies in case they need to adjust how a meal is prepared or modify the dish to meet your needs. 99% of their menu can be prepared gluten-free if needed which is awesome! We ordered the Nova Benny ($22), Lemon Ricotta Pancakes ($19), and a side of chicken sausages ($8). The Nova Benny is a spin on an eggs Benedict. The Nova Benny has poached eggs, smoked salmon, and hollandaise sauce over potato pancakes. The dish even includes a small salad on the side. The eggs were cooked to perfection. My bf really enjoyed the Nova Benny, but was actually not able to finish it. The dish came out to us looking like a small portion, but it was super filling. I ordered their famous Lemon Ricotta pancakes which is a gluten free dish that comes with a stack of 3 pancakes, whipped cream, powdered sugar, raspberries, lemon rind, and syrup on the side. I do happen to be on a gluten free diet for a couple of years now for health reasons so the texture of the Lemon Ricotta pancakes did not bother me at all. The texture is exactly how gluten free pancakes should be. Flavor-wise, I really enjoyed the lemon flavor and the fact that these pancakes were not overly sweet. All the items on the dish just really worked well with each other. I'd definitely recommend the Lemon Ricotta pancakes. The chicken sausages were not all that great. I was expecting them to be in a regular sausage shape, but they were more like small thick chicken patties. On top of that, they were dry, and didn't really have a lot of flavor to them. The customer service here is very good. Our waiter was very attentive, answered any questions we had about the menu, and came back to check up on us. Ok, it's pretty much a tourist trap. It's like Denny's, but twice the price, half the menu, and half the portion. Food (2/5): It was super mediocre, they had pretty much basic breakfast items like pancakes, french toast, eggs, etc, but no specialty. Not only that, the portions were pretty sad. There was nothing that caught my eye and the majority of the breakfast items can be made at home or bought frozen. Ambience (3/5): Pretty spacious, lots of room, and bright lighting. It was a nice place since it's at a hotel but that's about it. Price (2/5): errr...it's basically a tourist trap, enough said. Service (3/5): Service was decent - really hard to get water from our host but managed in the end! Overall, if you're looking for breakfast/brunch, you might as well go somewhere else. So I was walking past the hotel I looked in the window of the restaurant it's one of the last old fashion old-school restaurants that just had a bit of an upgrade. I was asking some questions about getting a grilled cheese sandwich she seemed impatient so I hurried up and ordered. She also said the Swiss cheese was like Guyeur cheese which I don't agree on but OK. So 15 minutes later the bus boy came up to serve me my food at the bar when you put the plate down I asked for mustard and mayonnaise he came back with mustard that's the hottest mustard I ever ate in my life and he said that's all they had. After the plate was down I hadn't even taken my first bite before the waitress came up to ask if everything was OK, I really wanted to say I don't know I haven't tried it yet because she clearly wasn't watching if I had eaten before coming up to me to ask if everything was OK or how I liked my food that I hadn't tried yet. She never came up again. Maybe she thought I was annoying because I had asked her if she could please turn the music down a little bit it was so loud that I couldn't hear the phone conversation that I had made she didn't turn it down after asking twice so I gave up. The grilled cheese sandwich was good not great it was on sliced processed Gruyere cheese the fries were lukewarm not hot it was disappointing at best. It's sad because I really really wanted to like this place. The ambience is incredible but the service was a hot mess!!! I would come back but definitely I need to have a different server. Family members recommended this place for after theater dinner. One of their attractions is their singing waiters and waitresses. They were very talented, but they also made it hard to speak with our friends. When we entered we were told that seatings were 80 minutes only. We debated if we felt that was suitable and decided to proceed. Our waitress took our drink order and then disappeared for 25 minutes. Upon her return she asked us if we wanted anything else. It seems someone else was supposed to actually bring them and she was stunned we had not been served. The restaurant was packed and seemingly understaffed. We ultimately had meat loaf that was indifferent at best and not sufficiently heated, and a half chicken that was also nothing special. Our friends had salmon that they said was quite good. It is busy before the theatre, it is a popular spot but they are quick and aware of the time you need to be out. It has a bustle but is not too loud to talk and enjoy your dinner. Friedman's offers a diverse selection on their menu, from salads, sandwiches, burgers and many appetizing brunch dishes--french toast, waffles, omelettes! We were told it would be a forty minute wait and there was a long line of people, but we managed to be seated in fifteen minutes so points to them for that. Convenient restaurant if you are checking out any nearby theaters. If you don't mind sitting by the windows, it allowed us to be seated faster than wait 15 minutes for a seat inside the restaurant. The waitress was quick to take our orders since we had a limited amount of time. The orders came quickly and were still hot. Chicken Matzo Ball Soup: use to the soup coloring being more yellow than brown so it could be me. The soup was a bit salty with the matzo balls which were small. This was our least favorite dish. Appetizer: Avocado Mash with tostones and pickled pepper. The avocado mash was awesome! I highly recommend it. The tostones on the top were perfect especially with the mash spread. Though forewarning: the tostones on the bottom of the plate were a bit greasy on one side with the oil soaking in it. Friend Chicken and Cheddar Waffles: was fantastic. Try for yourself! Sides: Market Plate - we picked 3 vegetables: sauteed spinach (not enough but there was a lot of brussel sprouts so it made for up for the portions), brussel sprouts and charred broccoli rabe (had a kick but if you can't really eat spicy...it isn't too bad. Though I am used to the rabe having a crunch while chewing, this was soft so believe it was overcooked but not mushy). Otherwise, the vegetables we're pretty good especially the brussel sprouts. There wasn't enough space on the table. At one point, I put the water bottle on the window sill and the busboy must have picked it up while cleaning another table. They are quick! Why is there an 80 minute table time when there are empty tables all over? My waitress was adorable but definitely more concerned with her singing. She sang beautifully! As did many others! But the mic/speakers were on so loud that it sounded like they were going to blow. I couldn't hear a word all night and the constant straining noise from the speaker ruined performances. The food in my opinion is cafeteria junk. $25 for a French dip that is said to be prime rib. A meager portion, tasteless a jus. Truly not a good look for a place charging these prices. My partner had grilled cheese and soup, nothing special, over priced. The pastrami was delicious but also over priced. No vinegar on the vinegar chips. Barely had a drink refilled. The food came out ridiculously fast which lets me know the kitchen is holding hot food instead of making your dish fresh. Save your money and walk a little outside this realm and grab something in Hell's Kitchen because this truly isn't worth your time or money. Oh and the manager? Did a table touch but it was more intrusive and weird rather than anything else. And she came when my food had just arrived-- I had a fry in my mouth.
