We've eaten here once before and the food and service were both great, but today we had a horrible experience and ended up walking out! First, we drove all the way from downtown just to eat here but when we walked in the place was packed and one of the cooks had no mask on. Then we asked to sit outside but the rude hostess, who had her mask pulled down, said it was full and gestured to the dining room where we said no because it was completely packed in with no social distancing going on inside and tables very close together! We then told the hostess we were going to wait but they were about to close, so combined with the attitude from 2 different employees, a cook and hostess with no mask on and a jam packed restaurant we just walked out extremely disappointed by the horrible customer service and them seeming like COVID wasn't even going on. Next time we'll just go back to Gumbeaux's around the corner where we've been going for years now instead of trying to give another restaurant our business and maybe they'll learn how to treat their customers with courtesy next time ! read more

We came to this restaurant as a surprise for my mother. After eating Cajun Egg Rolls (the BEST out here in Atlanta), Crab Cakes and the Downtown Burger with fries, everyone was satisfied! I was able to see my parents be extremely satisfied with their food, and I honestly thought that because the food was SO good, the one and only James Bond himself (the Sean Connery version!) would go here! Everyone was saying so much good things about their food, and my own burger was so big, I couldn't finish it! This establishment gives out more than enough food; in fact, it's often enough for more than 2 meals! My family and I visited on a Friday evening. There was no wait and we were sat immediately. We sat outside upstairs. Now the only critique I would give, is that the floor is very squeaky. I wish that would get that fixed. The service was good. Everyone was super nice. Our server was working hard that night and didn't miss a beat. I got the Chicken prosciutto pasta, WITHOUT the prosciutto. It was really good and the portion size was large. I had enough to take home and have for lunch the next day. I did get calamari as an appetizer. I don't think I would get again. It was fried too hard in my opinion. But other than that I would recommend giving this place a try. read more

This was a little tricky because I really do enjoy the food. BUT, as much as like it there is no way I'm going to pay a 10% "gratuity" for getting a take out order. What???? Exactly why am I tipping for someone to put food in a bag, take my money, and hand it to me. That makes absolutely no sense and I refuse to do it. WAIT!!! STOP!!! Are THOSE your fried green tomatoes?? It was all uphill from there. We came to Gabe's Downtown after a hike, and not knowing a thing about Douglasville restaurants, we went on in to Gabe's, a Louisiana Bistro, hoping to find a good meal. Gabe's has a fair amount of variety on their menu, as well as specials. This is what ordered and/or tried: Spicy Andouille potato velute: $4 Downtown Burger: $10 Fried green tomatoes: $8 Roasted sweet potato mash: no charge...comes with the burger The Fried green tomatoes were simply beautiful, and not just the typical plate of fried tomato slices i'm used to. They came with 4 slices, and were covered with crumbled goat cheese, julienned poppadews, covered with lemon aioli and rested on a bed of baby arugula. The tomatoes tasted delicious, were well seasoned, and you may think all of the toppings were overkill, but they worked well. You do have to eat them with a fork, but small price to pay. The downtown burger was a big burger at 8 oz, or half of a pound. I asked for it to be cooked medium, and it was actually medium, not almost well done like i've seen in other burger shops. The burger came topped with roasted garlic mayo, caramelized onions, bibb lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese all on a brioche bun. I really enjoyed the cook of this burger. Sure, it was a little sloppy because the patty kept trying to slip out of the bun when I bit into it, but that's not a problem. Along with the burger came my choice of a side. I picked the roasted sweet potato mash, and I was really thinking it would be in a small bowl, but Gabe's do NOT skimp on their sides. Along with my burger was a mound of potato almost the same size of the burger...I couldn't even finish this huge serving (really, this was easily 3 services). Not on the super sugary sweet side, the potatoes were seasoned well, not drowning in butter, and you actually got the feeling that this was a healthy dish with flavor. Good job! The Spicy Andouille potato velute, or a fancy way of saying soup, wasn't my order, but I got a spoonful, and the flavor in this was really good. It came in a cup so it wasn't huge like my orders, but the flavors definitely were. Customer service was nice, friendly, fast and boxed our leftovers up for us. The restaurant looks small, but is fairly spacious, with an upstairs seating area as well. Parking in the lot can be tight, but there are spots along the street and a nearby parking deck. TL:DR - There's lots of really solid food at Gabe's Downtown bistro, and if you ever find yourself here in Douglasville, stop in and give them a try read more

This place is way too overpriced just to serve absolute dumpster fire food. Look, we went into this place and they refused to seat us, there was no one there. As soon as they seated us like 25 minutes later they didn't bring us menus until an "adult" looking person came in and sat with us. Then all the sudden they switched up there attitude. Our inexperienced waiter who barely attended to us finally got our appetizer that he recommend, it was horrible. The spring rolls are NOT GOOD. Its like they took all the food that was left over from the previous customers and grounded it into a paste, rolled it in rice paper, fried it, and served it on a ridicules amount of mayonnaise. Still my favorite place in the neighborhood for quality and consistency you can rely on! It's so great to have authentic Cajun and creole cuisine without having to drive to Atlanta and wait over an hr, and the prices are unbeatable for the quality. My hands down favs remain the crab stuffed catfish, coconut shrimp, crab and corn chowder, and the shrimp and grits (although I've had most of the menu and you can't go wrong). And don't forget the bread pudding! So yum! I also love when they do special features (like the surf and turf on Valentine's Day - amazing!) and the specials that keep me from being such a creature of habit. I can't begin to say enough good things about this place. Everything we ordered was AMAZING! The portions were large and delicious! I had the shrimp and grits and seriously there was enough for two to three ppl. The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly. I'd like to also praise the staff. We came in about 40 mins before closing so we checked to make sure that was ok. They never once rushed us or made us feel like we were a bother. We even ordered dessert and our waitress told us to take our time she was rolling silverware so we were fine. Cons, I agree with some that it was loud and the seating capacity is small. So get there early. At lunch if I can't stay, I just call in my order 10-15 minutes before I go and my food is ready and delicious as always. There are no bad seats in the restaurant but the bar is my personal favorite! Gabe's has become one of my favorite restaurants over the past five years. Douglasville is lucky to have two incredible Cajun places, and they are vastly different. Both are five star - (if find it odd that any town in America other than New Orleans would have "One" Cajun place this good. Douglasville has two! Gabe's differentiator is its menu and upscale approach to dining. Their menu items are chef-driven and are french cuisine. But not so much as a white table cloth french restaurant with things few would recognize. Instead, Gabe's has created menu items such as Chicken Victoria, which is both filling and decadently creamy-rich and flavorful complemented with a side of risotto and seasonal vegetables drenched in lemon butter. Also, try the Woodsman Salad if you like goat cheese. As an appetizer, get any of them, and you will be pleased. My favorite is the Buffalo Shrimp. Finally, GO TO GABES FOR LUNCH! The menu is pretty much the same, yet pricing is lower. My favorites at lunch are the Downtown Burger or the Roasted Pork Bahn Mi sandwich. I've been a regular customer here from the time they opened. I work across the street so I either ate here or picked up to-go food often. I've noticed over time the food becoming more and more bland. Then my visits became less and less. The last three visits have been very disappointing. My friend and I ate there this evening (she's never been) and every single thing we ordered was EXTREMELY bland. The seafood egg rolls were okay because of the sauces that came with them and that was the best food item. My catfish and grits were terrible. No flavor AT ALL! My friend's gumbo had zero spice. Calamari was tasteless and slimy. The two stars I gave are for the servers not the food. The servers and super nice and personable and the drinks are good. Came to Gabe's on a Thursday night and really enjoyed ourselves. We've been in Douglasville for 2 almost 3 years and haven't had a chance to come. Our server was Cealise and she was so pleasant. The only thing that was ehhh was I had the shrimp and grits with the shrimp blackened. I have a VERY low tolerance for salt and the blackened seasoning caused the grits to be salty but again I have a low tolerance for salt. I'll definitely try it again and will request light blackening season. We did appetizers, drinks and signed up for the Foodie Club and got a free bread pudding. Our drinks were phenomenal.
