I had previously visited Gabi James for brunch but I came back recently for a dinner date here. We had Saturday night reservations and the place was moderately busy. We started off our meal here with our server Austin's recommendation for the Pan Peche. This was the surprise star of the night. It consisted of a grilled sourdough ciabatta smothered with herbed goat cheese and topped with large peach slices and shreds of arugula. On top of the arugula, they drizzled some honey. The flavors came together wonderfully, giving this starter just the right amount of sweetness. It is a dish that just screams out summer sweet. We were fans of the Pan Peche for sure. Our second dish of the night was the Albondigas Chimayo. These were turkey meatballs in ancho chili cream sauce. Per our server's recommendation, we added in some pan a la parilla. Being a fan of albondigas, I had high expectations for this dish. Unfortunately it didn't quite live up to what I was expecting. Though the meatballs were cooked quite well, the flavor was lacking. The ancho chili cream sauce didn't really add much to the dish and sad to say the pan a la parilla was the best thing about this dish. When the side bread is better than the main component of a plate, there is something to be said. I would pass on this next time. For our main course, we chose to split their Pomegranate Lamb Chops. This came with four lamb chops and some grilled radicchio and baby carrots with pomegranate glaze. This was an excellent entree. The lamb chops were tender and cooked well. The radicchio and baby carrots paired nicely with the lamb. The pomegranate glaze gave a nice sweet flavor that tied everything together. You know a restaurant is good if they can cook lamb chops well. For my drink of the night, I chose to get The Butterfly Effect. I've always been a fan of butterfly pea and was intrigued when I saw this on the menu. This drink has butterfly infused vodka with vanilla syrup, lemon and egg white. It was sweet, refreshing and quite enjoyable. It was a wonderful dinner at Gabi James. All of the dishes with the exception of the Albondigas Chimayo were great. This spot makes for a great date night.

TL;DR - highly recommend the seafood paella, Harissa honey eggplant fries, and anchovy crisps. I look forward to coming back soon! This is my new favorite when it comes to tapas. This place is known for Spanish and coastal French cuisine. It's a place with a lot of shareable plates. It's located in the Riviera and there's plenty of parking, most of it being paid parking. The ambiance is nice. It's easy to hold a conversation but it can get a little loud. Service is fast and professional too. Everyone was so helpful with the menu. Overall I really enjoyed the food here. The seafood paella was perfect. Not too salty and lots of protein. It reminded me of my time in Barcelona. The pomegranate lamb chops were also really good! We also tried their Harissa honey eggplant fries which were unique and very tasty. My kid couldn't get enough. I decided to be a little adventurous with the anchovy crisps and didn't regret it. I actually really liked it. The anchovies sit on a crunchy bread and I look forward to ordering this again when I visit. Lastly, they had an oxtail tortilla which is a weekly special. It looks really REALLY good and the presentation is straight up eye candy. For some reason it tasted off to me and my friend. Maybe it was a bad batch but we won't be getting it again. But besides that, I loved everything else!

Easy to make a reservation and our waiter gave us great recommendations on what to try. Took my family here today for Mother's Day with our two kids, really looking forward to it based on all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to the hype. Despite seeing plenty of staff walking around, it was surprisingly difficult to get our waiter's attention to place our order. We started with the bread service and chorizo croquettes. The bread and house-made jam were just okay--nothing particularly memorable. The croquettes had to be remade because they forgot the chorizo the first time, but once corrected, those were actually quite tasty. For entrées, my kids ordered the French toast and breakfast sandwich, my wife went with the special $30 giant pancake with berries, and I ordered a basic breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, and potatoes. My kids received their food and completely finished eating before I had to ask about the rest of our meals. My plate finally arrived, and by the time I was finishing, my wife--who we were there to celebrate--was still waiting for her pancake. When it finally came, it was just okay and didn't really justify the $30 price tag. The restaurant itself is cute and nicely decorated, but unfortunately, the food and service didn't deliver enough for us to want to return.

Dined in date 9/19/25. We were excited about this place because it is hard to get good paella in LA, and the reviews all seem stellar. Reservation was easy to make. What a disappointing experience it was. Service was slow and inattentive. Took about 20 minutes from the time we sat down until someone came by with the menu and water, and this is after my husband waved someone down. We felt like we were being skipped many times over. Food was just ok. The paella was soft and on the wet side. There was no socarrat as I longed for. The other dishes were just average. Drinks were strong. There are so many good restaurants in the South Bay that it is less likely we'll come back here.

Went for dinner on a Wednesday night. It was surprisingly easy to get a table. The staff was very friendly and service was great. I am gluten free and the waitress marked the menu with everything that is gluten free or could be modified. I had surprisingly a lot of options. The food is meant to be shared family style. We ordered a few dishes and limited ourselves to 3 small (pork belly, tortilla española, broccolini) and 2 large dishes (paella and lamb chops) which was way more than enough. What I really liked was the tortilla española, paella, and lamb chops. The paella comes with a squid ink sauce on it, which was great. The pork belly was just ok - the blue cheese was overpowering, we ate around it. Overall, great spot. I'd love to go back with a larger group to try more of their options.

visited gabi james sunday for brunch. my friend and i both had this placed saved on our list of places to visit, so it just made sense! we dined out on the patio bc i had my puppy with me so i did not get a chance to tour the interior gabi james offers spanish and coastal french cuisine, everything we ordered was so tasty! PAPAS VERDES: paella spiced crispy potatoes, chorizo, fried egg, mojo verde. GABI BREAKFAST SANDWICH choose your adventure (served w/fries): FRENCH: fried egg, gruyere, dijon, french ham, jam, pan de mie FRENCH TOAST: lemon pastry cream, market berries, maple syrup we spilt the three plates, tbh, i did not have a favorite, everything was so delicious! i love gruyere so it really paired well with the ham!! YUM service was great! someone different kept coming back to check on us. we had everything we needed to enjoy our sunday brunch! oh, rez were also very easy to make via opentable love that they are dog friendly as well. parking: street (metered) a couple parking lots which are also metered or you can park in the residential area and walk a few blocks

this was a fun little place to try out, but I don't know if it was worth it or if I'd come back! for people who live in the South Bay, its just something different. Oh my god, what a gem! The benchmark dish of grilled octopus was sooo tender that it simply melted on the tongue. But all the other dishes were equally wonderful: pan con tomate, citrus quince salad, roasted mushrooms, charred asparagus, and at the end a cream Catalan. Cool and elegant ambiance with an attentive waiter (who was very charming but seemed not to want to look in the eyes when talking to her patrons).

This has always been one of our favorite spots in the village but we were disappointed for Easter brunch. My wife had the french toast one of her favorites and they seemed to have changed the recipe from a taller moist piece of toast to a flat crusty one. I had the potato special which was fine as a shared item but too much of one thing for an entre. Mimosa was good and the service terrific but the overall food was disappointing for the first time in 10 visits. We will try again soon but select other items. read more

Great vibe, good service, and we enjoyed the food. Came here the other night before our friend hosted the comedy night upstairs in their large banquet room. We had a group of 10 in a back booth, and we were taken great care of by Masha (?). Really enjoyed the flank steak and their whole Mediterranean bass was delicious. The bar was happening as well and they obviously take pride in offering up some lesser known, non mainstream alcohol. I enjoyed my martini using Ocean organic vodka and my wife loved the Rioja. I sincerely wish I could give this restaurant more than 5 stars.... I'm married to a Chef.... just moved to the South Beach 3 years ago... in this desert of just plain awful fast food... we searched and searched through the jungle of chain restaurants for good authentic food. We finally found it. Yipee! Saturday night... we sat at the bar... had great gin cocktails...lovely and friendly service there. Cancelled our table to stay at the bar because of the vibe. Our service was spot on... the food was simple, cooked to perfection, no fancy, fussy "wanna be" extras.... just like what we are used to. Tapas were like in Spain.... Mains were cooked perfectly... the dessert was a delight. Big Plus: NO plastic straws !! NO styrofoam take home containers!! Way way way too noisy...... even though food is good, you can't enjoy because you can't hear your table mates. The special paella or fidea was super dry with minimal seafood- mostly dry noodles. Drinks were ordered first but did not arrive until almost ready for main course. When we asked the waitress, she became testy and was not very friendly ( almost condescending) for the rest of the meal,especially to my husband who had asked about the lateness of the drinks. This was our second visit but we won't return. read more

I was very excited to try this restaurant based on yelp reviews. We came for NYE dinner and overall the experience was good but I was just not in love with the food. Food: Dates: these were okay. Semi warm dates with cheese, nuts and a lot of oil. Garlic lemon shrimp: this was my favorite. Very flavorful and delicious. Ox tail Ragu: this was also just okay flavor wise, but more notably was how extremely greasy it was. Prime rib: this was a special on the menu for NYE. It was flavorful but probably the fattiest piece of prime rib I have ever had in my life. Restaurant ambiance: great music, hip vibe, very lively. Customer service was very friendly and helpful. Overall I feel like the food we ordered was just okay, but very greasy. I would be willing to come back and try a few other items on the menu. read more

Took my friend here for her birthday since neither of us had ever been. Our server was knowledgeable with the perfect balance of knowing the menu and having excellent suggestions. (Wish I could remember her name!) The food was out of this world and I introduced my friend to a Tortilla Español. If you haven't had one, you must go to Gabi James to try it! This place was such a pleasant surprise! It opened up in riviera village a while ago and I just got around to trying it and I'm so glad I did! The drinks were delicious, the service was stellar and the food was amazing! The steak was incredible and perfectly seasoned. What a gem in the riviera! Husband and I came in for a quick date and what a relaxing wonderful experience we had! Our server was Masha and she was great! Very kind and genuine - great suggestions and great service. We had the tuna crudo, calamari, ceasar salad and the pepper piquillos . We also shared a bottle of their red chilled Grenache . It's a nice place with decent service, I just don't believe management was the best for as the hostess was in the middle of welcoming us the way the floor manager interrupted was kind of rude and sort of unprofessional. Brand new restaurant that did not disappoint. Hubby and I stopped (reservations recommended during peak hours) and had GREAT service from Eric. He recommended the quince salad, salted potatoes and the meatballs. We enjoyed them all with a jalapeño cocktail (can't remember the name). Great bar and great food with good service all around. Sunday brunch. Nice little spot. Food was good, service was OK. Really 3.5 stars for food, but service brought the score down. Slow service, and the wait staff basically walked around with their eyes on the ground as they navigagated through the dining area - not looking in the direction of their other tables, almost for fear they might be summoned over. Not just our waiter, but all three servers did that the entire time we were there. French toast and oxtail hash were outstanding. Avocado toast was above average. I'd still recommend this restaurant. read more

Hands down the best bottomless mimosas ever! I'm very picky about what I drink, because most alcohol irritates my stomach or leaves me with a headache later. However, I've been here multiple times now and have never experienced any stomach issues or headaches. Their outdoor patio is also super cute, and comfy! I can't wait to come back here soon. Definitely highly recommend this place to anyone. Especially Bruncher's! read more

We tried to order a little of everything offered in the menu -- and we left most of everything on the plates. Super salty. Potato croquettes were like hash brown on the outside with a bland liquid potato soup inside. The olive with anchovy thing was inedible. The potato chips that came to the table were soggy with oil. Salads mostly only lettuce with nothing memorable inside. Our waitress then said we had to leave quickly because they had reservations coming in. With what we had, we were more than happy to leave. The service is not the friendliest. Makes you really yearn for the prior restaurant that was there -- what a great place to meet people. They never wanted you to leave. read more

Food was great and the restaurant was really accommodating to our large group. We went for my brother's 40th birthday party and we probably had 4-5 kids under the age of 6 with us and the waitress did a great job of keeping the peace (with the kids) and making sure everyone got their food. This is my new favorite restaurant in the South Bay! Highlights: This was one of the best 5 fillets I've ever had. The potato croquettes were 10/10. Other notes: the decor is excellent as well. Opened in March 2018, this place has LED lighting and cool/comfortable booths and seats. Oh, and the wait staff is friend and down to earth. Love it! read more

I am so happy and excited about this new establishment! I was beginning to worry about my food experience moving out to Redondo! I would first like to express how lovely and welcoming the staff is. The ambience is not only chic and modern, but also casual. The cocktail menu is a refreshing change too! If you you are into gin(and I am ), you will not be disappointed. If you aren't, then you must give it a shot with their extensive knowledge and variety of non-traditional gin. I have been to Gabi James two times already and each visit has been just perfect and they remembered us as soon as we walked in! Now for the food...I am SO pleased to say that every dish we tried (almost 75%) was so fresh and absolutely delicious! Established in 2018.

Gabi James brings Spanish and coastal French food with California Soul to the South Bay. After 21 amazing years in Redondo Beach, Guy Gabriele along with his daughter Sara & husband Adam bid farewell to Zazou with a dream of reinventing the space and concept. Gabi James is a beautiful representation of Spanish and coastal French style, along with the bright and airy aesthetic that we hold dear in the South Bay. Our menu was created by South Bay native & chef extraordinaire, Chris Feldmeier, of Mozza & Moruno fame, alongside longtime Gabriele restaurant veteran, Jorge Torres, who runs the kitchen. The bar takes shape with an awesome trifecta. Vincenzo Marianella, of Copa d'Oro & Providence, has created a cocktail program that features house crafted juices & ingredients as well as a wide variety of spirits. Sara & Adam have curated a wine list and beer program that shines with local offerings.

Sara Gabriele grew up in the restaurants her family owned and knew at a young age she was passionate about food and beverages. She is a level 2 Sommelier and Spanish & French Wine Scholar and is constantly studying food and beverage to make sure Gabi James is fresh and current. Her husband and co-owner, Adam Aro has over 20 years in the industry and is also a food and beverage expert with a focus on unique and limited beers as a level 1 cicerone.

The ambiance was romantic and inviting and there were so many delightful menu options; I can't wait to try more of them. Our waitress was kind and attentive and sat us immediately. Our table wasn't ready upstairs but they opened one downstairs for us. The calamari was so flavorful and crispy to start our meal. My entree of steak filet was cooked perfectly medium rare as I ordered, and was so tender, I could cut it with my butter knife. It was served with a delicious cracked pepper cream sauce & arugula salad. We shared a side of brussel sprouts, which were roasted to perfection. Full bar as well, my wife ordered a cucumber martini and it was presented so beautifully with a rolled slice cucumber resembling a rose. This revamp of Zazou brings something delicious, fresh, and updated to the Riviera Village. The daughter of the Zazou's owner has teamed up with her husband to bring us Gabi James. Completely redesigned, the space is modern and decorated with cool accents of blown glass and muted colors. The menu is inspired by Spanish flavors and is divided into small, medium, and large dishes, meant to be shared. However, we weren't feeling like sharing so we all ordered individually. If you are going to do it this way, one small plate and an entree or salad will more than suffice. I got the squash and citrus salad. The squash was honestly one of the best dishes I've eaten. Both sweet and savory, it was also beautifully plated. The salad was also extremely fresh and hearty. We joined some friends for brunch and couldn't have been happier with the experience. We were seated in the outdoor dining area, which added a great vibe to the already welcoming atmosphere. Our server was both friendly and knowledgeable, walking us through the menu with ease. To start, we shared the Potato Croquettes with harissa aioli, crispy, flavorful, and the perfect way to kick things off. Next was the Pan Peche: grilled peach, herbed goat cheese, and a honey drizzle served with sourdough ciabatta. This dish was outstanding and highly recommended. For my main, I ordered the "5 Egg Sandwich" a five-egg soufflé with candied bacon, American cheese, harissa aioli, and arugula on a butter-toasted brioche bun. Absolutely incredible. I'll be craving it until our next visit. The coffees, lattes, and espresso shots were also spot on. All four of us left full, happy, and already looking forward to coming back. We went to this restaurant yesterday and ordered the ribeye, which normally comes with potatoes and spiced spinach. We substituted the spinach for broccolini. Unfortunately, the entire dish was a huge disappointment. The steak had absolutely no flavor. The potatoes were even worse -- I've never had a bad potato in my life, but these tasted strongly of nutmeg and were not edible. The broccolini also had a strange, unpleasant taste. I honestly couldn't believe how poorly executed the entire plate was. What made the experience even more upsetting was the price. The dish was $110, and we were shocked. We have never felt so taken advantage of. For that price, the food should be exceptional, not something we couldn't finish. They should be ashamed to serve a plate like that. If you visit this restaurant, do not order the ribeye. read more

Loved the way everything is done here. Let's start with drinks. Cocktails are on point. Balanced and delicious. Amazing beer list. Special Spanish and French wines. Had a party of 5 so we could try everything. All size dishes, from croquettes with jamon, tortilla espanola, to the oxtail ragu with trenne pasta and the whole roasted branzino. So amazing. And we didn't even get to the whole menu. Service is attentively perfect without being in your face. Food comes as it's ready so don't worry. Perfectly European experience. Can't wait for the outdoor patio to be done to have adult beverages on the sidewalk. Sara was a gem as an owner walking the floor. Thank you for creating this. Be back soon!!! read more

This review is for the service, drinks, appetizer and ambiance. We did not have dinner here -Service- amazing. Very knowledgeable staff when it comes to the mixology. They serve you freshly fried chips while you wait in your food -Drinks- beautifully crafted and unique. Love the gin plus flavored soda water options -Shishito peppers- the best I've had including Izakaya! Delicious sauce and perfectly cooked. We got 3 hot ones out of our serving which is a record for us. The nice ice cold soda water helped cook it down though. -Ambiance- amazing for a lovely Saturday afternoon. It was busy, but not loud and servers were always smiling. read more

I hosted a private party upstairs on the outdoor deck and all of my guests loved the food and the atmosphere. The owner assisted me in creating a well-rounded selection of dishes from which my guests could choose. Everyone had one of 3 delicious salads to start and then picked another tapa to enjoy and share. The result was perfect. The Citrus salad with quince was a big hit as were the meatballs, the calamari, and of course, the tortilla española. Our server, Maria, was excellent. If you have a special occasion and are looking for a place for a private party, I highly recommend Gaji James. The event space upstairs is beautiful. read more

Our home away from home. We regularly visit Gabi not just for the food but to hang with staff and other locals. We love the vibe, the cocktails and most importantly their wine program. We're consistently greeted by friendly faces and are treated like family. We appreciated that are always weekly specials and menu updates seasonally. Gabi is definitely a spot where we enjoy taking friends and family who come from out of town or from outside of the beach cities. A must try for anyone looking for great food, cocktails and wine! read more

Hands down, no contest, best cocktail in the entire South Bay. The good melon: if you haven't tried it, get after it. Also, they have a great espresso martini. Savannah, Christina and Ricky always take the best care at the bar. The owners are Oregon fans so it's always nice to chat football when it's season read more

Love a restaurant that has a great bar program to go with their food & we always love sharing plates so this is a great spot for us! They have a 90 minute time limit due to COVID restrictions but I get it....even though we would love to spend all day here drinking G&Ts and eating all the good stuff! read more
