It's exceptional. I've spent many months in Spain. Gabi James has elevated Mediterranean food. Best food I've had in Redondo and best overall experience I've had in the South Bay in years. The Spanish blood sausage was superb. The Tortilla was great. The Oxtail Ragu is a different class. The care, attention and quality is so high. I can't remember our waitresses name but her service was better than some Michelin Star restaurants. Only thing I would change is maybe have two tapas dishes at the same time so could have some contrast and mix if made sense. The big problem is this place is so much better than the restaurants around it that it will be hard to get a table. Guess that's a good problem. read more

Zazou out Gabi James in! Like all things change is good but it is still in the family. And my Buddy Victor is there and nice to see him when I walked in. I love the Spanish add to the menu and a good eclectic Spanish and Italian blend. I would suggest family style and let the dishes flow and share. All dishes were excellent the quince in the salad amazing, flank steak to share & well seasoned, the pasta had a good crunch and the oxtail ragu rich and should be enjoyed in petite bites. And also order some bread to sop of the the deliciousness on each plate. If your party is like our party order all the desserts. read more

I was excited when I saw the menu, creative Spanish dishes. Unfortunately the food was not worth the price, I will not be going back. Biggest disappointment was the Rib Eye steak. We ordered it medium it was served so rare we had to send some if it back. It was so full of fat we could only eat about half of it. Not at all worth the $100 price tag. Had a lovely lunch here today with my family. Didn't realize it was formerly Zazou's but it's still run by the same family. It's now a nice, open, modern space with a bar and patio. I think the upstairs is now an area where you can have private parties. The Croque Madame was probably our favorite, but it's huge! Probably good for two people! The lamb burger is also quite nice, and quite dense. I only wish it had a little more yogurt sauce and that the yogurt had more dill. My mom ordered the tuna melt, which I liked but it is quite heavy, as tuna melts often are. For dessert we tried both the chocolate bread pudding and creme Catalan. I liked the creme Catalan, but chocolate lovers will love the bread pudding. Def get ice cream with the bread pudding. read more

So first time coming to Gabi James in the Riviera Village. Service was good and knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the Octopus w/fennel and squid ink, WOW!!! The octopus cooked very well, melts in your mouth. Was not tough or chewy and still had a nice octopus flavor. My wife ordered the Filet mignon and she is a stickler for medium rare. They knocked it out of the park!! Had a nice crust on the top of pepper and salt with an arugula salad and a horseradish dip. Plate cleaned x2!!! Nice bar selection with local beers which I love! Keep our beers local. This is a great place for a date night or even a night with friends. Heat lamps galore but still bring a sweater. read more

We ordered take out during the Covid pandemic as a treat and we were not disappointed. We got the shrimp appetizer for me, my kids split the skirt steak, my husband ordered the filet mignon. We also got arugula salads and sides of spinach and French fries. They accidentally left a dish out and called right away and we turned around to pick up and they threw in a bread pudding as an apology. A gem in the Riviera area of Redondo. Tapas style, and pretty much everything is great. Tortilla Espanola is a must every time I return. With a bottle of wine this has become a really nice date night spot. Good quality, consistent over the last 3 years, and while it might be a little pricey, at least the quality is there and it's always under consideration when looking for something a little upscale and different. read more

After reading a few reviews of the poor service I had to write a review for myself. It was 6:30 on a Tuesday night and I was seated right away. Our server was very nice and prompt. She explained anything on the menu I asked about. She gave some suggestion as well. I did not have to wait for service on anything. I have to say even at 7PM it was over 70 percent full. Service was not lacking tonight. The food was so flavorful. I got the flank steak with peppercorn sauce. It was paired with a fine red wine the waitress suggested. What a lost opportunity. The owner of this establishment does not seem to know what she wants her restaurant to be. Spanish food is a rarity in the South Bay and she could have a little gem with just a tiny bit of thought to the region her food represents. The food was fine but there is absolutely no ambiance and no feeling of being in an authentic Spanish restaurant. As a matter of fact the vibe they are choosing is a watering hole, with loud horrible grunge music that seems to be targeted to a beach crowd. When I asked the owner to please turn down the music she simply said that others enjoyed it. This was supposed to be a special celebration that was ruined because we couldn't even have conversation. I regret we spent good money for a meal that we didn't even enjoy because our heads were pounding. The unfortunate servers were apologizing for the loud music but the owner essentially offered no apology. Try replacing the grunge music with a little Spanish flamenco guitar. It shouldn't be that hard. I make a pretty good tortilla de patata and I can get jamon at La Espanola. No need to return when I can enjoy my own food at home. read more

Killer tapas and amazing service! We had a fantastic Friday sunset at this awesome spot. From the first minute, our lovely server Maria was incredible and so accommodating under difficult circumstances -- so appreciated, especially in these tough times. The food was absolutely stellar!! Like a trip to Barcelona but with California veggies ::: The asparagus tortilla was out of this world. We've lived in Redondo for two weeks now and have dined out just about every evening and I can happily say Gabi James is the best restaurant we've been to yet in our new community. Robert our server was very good, knowledgeable about the menu, friendly, and spaced our meal out perfectly. The setting is both intimate, in that you are seated pretty close to your fellow diners, but also lively with laughter and conversation. I really liked the vibe of conviviality. The real star though is the food! We sampled the citrus quince salad (very unique), the Merguez lamb sausage was outstanding and the perfect size to share between two. My fiancee had the fantastic lamb dish and I had the roasted chicken, which I also thought was outstanding. We will be back many, many times and highly recommend this spot for outstanding food, service, and creative culinary, cocktail, and wine options. read more

We have been in the food industry for more than 30 years and we never felt treated like we have at this place. We went to GJ twice. We went for the first time a couple of months ago to get drinks and appetizer before going to an event. The person who served us seemed to have a very bad day. It happens to everyone so we didn't think much of it.we payed and left Last Saturday we decided to go back to the restaurant and the same person was serving us. We were offered menus and wanted to order but the lady taking our order snapped at us yelling "WHAT". We looked at each other, got up and left. Courtesy , respect and hospitality are the three most important aspects of the food industry and this restaurant did not meet those expectations. read more

I am really disappointed writing this review but I can't say the whole experience was bad but definitely the entire experience at the bar WAS! As my date and I arrived to the restaurant our table wasn't ready so we opted to sit at the bar. A rude bartender (short hair and a permanent frown) with a horrible attitude comes up and says-"You probably don't want to get drinks here because you're going to have to cash out before going to your table... probably best to just wait for your table." We were completely shocked as it was our first time at this restaurant since it opened (from being Zazou). We politely told her that we were going to stay for a drink since our table was taking a while to get cleaned ....when I proceeded to ask what certain ingredients were in a cocktail...she gave me an attitude the entire time ... then I asked if the pineapple juice was 'concentrated'... she's snarks at me and says "I don't know I didn't squeeze it by hand if that's what you're asking ....it's from Trader Joe's." My date and I wanted to get up and leave right then and there ....but we wanted to try the restaurant and didn't want our "experience" to be tainted because of this one person! Then she proceeds to come back and asked me what is "splash entails" for the cocktail I ordered. At this point ...we realize that she was just being absolutely rude, disrespectful , and condescending and we were going to call the manager to have a discussion about her attitude. The experience didn't finish there as the Hostess informs us that our table was ready and that she could walk us to our table....This absolutely rude bartender proceeded to say .. "Can you cash out here " as my date was getting ready to cash out anyway! Then she proceeds to give him change in only full bills and not dollar bills almost demanding him to give her a $5 or $10 tip!!!! Unfortunately.. he felt so uncomfortable having me wait at the table without him as he was "cashing out" ...and also didn't want to have any more conversation with her that he just ended up leaving her a $5 tip even after the horrible experience that we both had with her!!! ( We both regret it because a tip is given for service and not for being completely rude to customers). That experience unfortunately made us feel so uneasy and so shocked that when we were actually at our table it was hard to really focus on the experience and the food! With that being said ...the waitress was actually extremely polite and totally professional not like the bartender! Unfortunately, the food was a little over salted and being that I am from Spain originally .. the authenticity of the "Spanish" dishes lacked favor. Nevertheless, I feel this experience could have went a lot different if we didn't get so "turned off" by the bartender. Being that I am a "local" and live walking distance from the restaurant saddens me that I might never walk in there again especially if I see the rude bartender still working there. I hope management takes this complaint seriously and has a serious talk with her because it is not OK to treat customers in that way! Word of mouth is everything in the South Bay! read more

I really enjoyed this place. I came here on a Sunday for brunch with a group of girl friends for one of their birthdays. We were greeted by the owner. Such a nice atmosphere and great customer service. I shared the tortilla Espaniola and the french toast. Both were good. We also did the bottomless mimosas. $19 for 2 hours. Very disappointing experience... I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant. I went to Gabi James on Mother's Day for brunch. I arrived at 1:15 & I was told by the friendly hostess that they had a table available, however I would need to leave by 2:30 because they had a reservation coming in then. I thought no biggie, I've got an hour & 15 min, we can finish eating in that amount of time & the hostess confirmed that wouldn't be a problem & the food would come out quickly. My husband & I sat down decided what we wanted to eat & waited & waited & waited for the wait staff or some sort of service. The waitress in our section walked past our table multiple times, not once acknowledging our presence. The tables surrounding us had already finished eating & were just chatting with each other & the waitress even delivered another glass of Sangria to the table next to ours, again not saying she'd be right with us or anything. We weren't even offered water & we were sitting outside on a hot day. After 15 minutes of no service we finally got up & left. I mentioned to the owner or manager that no one had been to our table the entire time we sat there as we headed out, she seemed apologetic but didn't really say anything. My husband and I proceeded to go across the street & enjoyed fabulous service & food at 1892 Bistro - I highly recommend everything about the restaurant we ended up at & look forward to returning. I haven't decided if I will ever return to Gabi James as my first experience there was so horrible. read more

We had a wonderful time & fun experience tasting food vacationing in Barcelona so this menu looked like the next best thing to being there! We were Greeted warmly, decided to get there early to have a cocktail before our reservation. The Bartender made the best lemon drop, it was actually perfect! Everyone ordered something different. All were pleased. Fresh ingredients makes such a difference! The 4 of us shared small plates, started off the homemade potato chips, ordered fresh dates manchego cheese and almonds .. then fresh Calamari cooked "perfectly" I might add! Some med hot peppers can't remember Spanish name but very good! Then the Meatballs & shrimp came after that.. honestly everything we ordered we devoured!! Nothing left!! This revamp of Zazou brings something delicious, fresh, and updated to the Riviera Village. The daughter of the Zazou's owner has teamed up with her husband to bring us Gabi James. Completely redesigned, the space is modern and decorated with cool accents of blown glass and muted colors. The menu is inspired by Spanish flavors and is divided into small, medium, and large dishes, meant to be shared. However, we weren't feeling like sharing so we all ordered individually. If you are going to do it this way, one small plate and an entree or salad will more than suffice. I got the squash and citrus salad. The squash was honestly one of the best dishes I've eaten. Both sweet and savory, it was also beautifully plated. The salad was also extremely fresh and hearty. My family also ordered the tuna crudo, chicken entree, filet mignon entree, sautéed mushrooms, and sautéed dates. This place is absolutely perfect for everything from casual drinks to a date night. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Riviera Village, food-wise. They also have great service, great seating, and great drinks. They made nonalcoholic margaritas for my friend and I which tasted as delicious as the real thing. The seafood paella was incredible, as was the churro dessert. Went to brunch/lunch today ordered two sangrias, took them a long time to bring them. Ordered a few items to eat. Wanted to ordered more drinks and water waiter didn't come to check in to see if everything was good or if we needed anything else. Had to wait until they brought us one of the dishes we ordered to order water and sangrias. We wanted to order another round of drinks and food from the dinner menu and was told the limit for the table was 90 minutes. They had empty tables and no one waiting to be seated. They definitely lost on making more money since we wanted to order food from the dinner menu and drinks. I don't understand why restaurants turn away business especially if they aren't busy.
