Found this place on Yelp a while back, but never found the time to make it out here, till today.....and boy!.....I'm glad I finally got to try it out.....love this place! It's like a hidden gem that only local residents would know about, but judging from the crowd this place draws, it's not really a much of a well kept secret anymore. Located in a quiet and pleasant nice residential/small commercial area by the water/harbor, one gets a great view of all the boats parked just across the road. My friend and I had arrived just before noon and the place was already pretty busy, with just a couple of booths available.....we were immediately greeted by a very nice and friendly server who speedily cleared up a table for us. What I love about this place....besides the food....is that it's a very small, casual, diner style cafe.....nothing pretentious ..... just good old classic down-to-earth food, friendly service and hospitality. It seemed that their speciality were their breakfasts and sandwiches (including burgers), which is exactly what we came here for.....well, breakfast for me and burger/sandwiches for my friend. What I actually came here for was to try out their hashbrown potatoes, since I love them, and as the pictures I saw online looked so yummy! My friend had decided to order the Grilled Tuna Melt with a side of coleslaw, and I ordered the (build-your-own) omelette....with onions, mushrooms, turkey, and avocado (at an additional cost) with side of hashbrowns and sourdough toast. Oh my G's!......the omelette, the HASH BROWNS, the tuna melt, the coleslaw......ok, everything! .......were ALL hot, fresh, and oh so totally delicious! This is perhaps one of the best hash browns I'd ever eaten! I got to try half my friend's tuna melt sandwich, and I must say that it couldn't have been grilled and tasted any better than this! My friend really enjoyed it.....and so did I. What a wonderful find this place was, and a great start to our day......thank goodness for all day breakfast here! Cute cafe, lovely view, excellent service, delicious food!......what more can one ask for? I am so coming back here again, but likely not during the weekends where there will be a long wait for a table, guaranteed! I can imagine parking will be much more difficult to find during the busy weekends...but it's definitely worth it. read more

Super adorable diner at the marina in Newport Beach. It is shoebox sized, but that's part of its charm! Few small booths and counter dining. (Not recommended for parties larger than four; you'll be super squished). If no seating available, sit on bench outside. They'll wave you in through the huge clear window when there's an opening. The other large window offers a lovely view of the capacity filled marina. The chili cheese omelette is so good. The egg is so spot on, and almost matches the soft consistency of the yummy chili/cheese inside. Highly recommend. Then take a serene walk around the marina and pretty neighborhood. A total fave find for me! Can we keep the Galley Cafe on the down low though, Yelp? One of my favorite things about it is that it feels like a secret gem of a find! Love this place! It's a small, local neighborhood place! The family story on the back of the menu is amazing! We had the classic breakfast of eggs, bacon and hash browns and the food was fabulous! I could have eaten a second breakfast it was that good! Love that they have real hash browns not potato chunks! Employees are so nice and friendly. Cute little place by the water and I can see why locals come and wait to eat here. We drove from Irvine to try this place and would not come back after trying it. The service was fine and the food was ok so nothing against the diner. Overall our party didn't think we would make an effort to come back after trying it once. Regular diner food, nothing stood out and the place was pretty small inside and a bit warm since it's just ceiling fans and the door open for any air circulation. Outdoor seating was lacking as there were only two tables outside in their tent for diners. We came here decades ago when we were 1st dating and the nostalgia continues and the quality of the food, the friendly atmosphere and service make this place a great spot to enjoy a gorgeous day on the peninsula. This is a great lil spot to grab breakfast in newport , cool old school vive in this place for sure .. right on the water , cool retro interior , and countertop seating which i love . I placed a to-go order which consisted of the chili cheese omelette which was delicious and filling , wife had the veggie omelette which was also loaded with veggies , and my son had pancake egg n sausage combo , the sausages at this place are fat and very good . The food was packed very well and came with all the condiments i needed for food to go , the reason for minus one star was the toast had no butter on it and they only gave you one slice of bread which to me aint enough to get me through my whole meal .. sorry i did not take pics this time but the food is good and priced fairly also , do yourself a favor and go check out this cool lil spot on the water .. read more

Cute cafe right on the harbor of Newport Beach. Local spot that has been loved by many for years! Good food and reasonably priced, especially with the added experience of the cafe vibe and ocean harbor views. Small space and there will likely be a bit of a line if you don't arrive early, however, they are quick to accommodate you. Parking is available on the side of the restaurant, as well as in the neighborhood next door, it wasn't a hassle at all! Love it. read more

Love this old time cafe. It's been here since "here has been here"!!!! LOL Some of the best home style cooking breakfast you can find in this part of town. You can spend LOTS OF $$$ in one of the fancy restaurants up and down on Coast Highway, but if you want some good breakfast, THIS IS IT. Even though I am very skeptical about the cleanness of the restaurant and their bathroom conditions, I will give these guys a pass as their food is so good and the servers are so unique and personal that you can overlook few other things that normally would be considered a negative point. They won't seat single diners at a booth during peak hours - you'll have to wait for a seat at the counter. And if you're waiting for the counter, you wait outside in line with everyone else waiting for tables. The restroom is outside (water-side) inside the first unmarked door to the right as you pass the restaurant (then go upstairs and to the left). Now on to the food...my happy & sunny waitress honored my request for a tuna melt at 10 am. BTW breakfast people- toast is an extra charge...My tuna melt was quite tasty but the coleslaw was bland. My coffee was refilled promptly but the container of cream was overfilled and spilled all over the place. But really, breakfast is the meal people come here for and they have all the basics. Do yourself a favor and walk outside after your meal to enjoy some sunshine and the little marina. Parking is usually plentiful on the cul de sac. It's also known as "Eddie's Galley" to locals. I seldom write reviews and when. I Do almost always positive. My wife found this cafe on line. It's close to home and sounded worth a try. Parking was easy. All tables were taken. But bar was empty. I asked waiter if we could order now at bar and move to table if open. Waiter was quick t say no. One or the other. So we decided to sit at bar. We waited several minutes before waiter approached us. In fact, he did come not come to us until another man sat near us. Waiter immediately said hello to him and took his order. Then waiter turned his attention to us. The other customer immediately apologized ti us. He though we had already ordered The waiter simply smiled at the other customer without comment. . And then turned his attention to us. I then said to the customer. No need to apologize. You did not know we had not ordered, but the waiter did know. Waiter made no comment At that point I decided this was not a good fit I take partial blame for the situation because I was very hungry. However A little courtesy when serving others goes a long way! Weird waiting system where you don't write your name down. They have you all just stand there and wait your turn to be called for a table. Then they don't remember who was there first so you have to speak up for your right that you were there way before others waiting. So uncomfortable and unnecessary. Food was decent. Service was ok. They seemed stressed and understaffed and not very nice. Overall ok experience, not spectacular. But good for an easy quick breakfast. Nice location, easy parking, not too pricey. read more

Lovely location right near the Marina. Place was busy as expected for a Sunday morning, however there were places at the bar. We sat there, rather than wait in line. They do not take your name down on a list, you just wait in line outside and come in as tables open up. They play music from the 50s, and have booths with beautiful views of the gorgeous boats in the marina. The place is small, however everyone is friendly with a smile. I got a white egg omelet with bacon, spinach, and mushrooms. They make fresh hash brown potatoes. The food was delicious. I will be back! read more

Newport Beach hasn't always been "The O.C.". For a taste of what it once was you'd be hard-pressed to do better than the Galley Cafe: old school, soldered-in-place counter stools, tables bearing plaques featuring the names of longtime patrons, and a menu that adheres pretty closely to the diners of yore. Peer out across the access road and the bay and sailboats will alert you that you're in Newport Beach but the interior of the Galley Cafe remains an immaculate blast from Newport Beach's past, before it grew populated with the types it now attracts (intuit what you will). Many remark on the fact that they'd not expect to find a place like this in an area such as this and it's true. The road leading to the Galley Cafe (hell, the whole town) is filled with opulent waterfront homes. It was in the front yard of one of these homes that I once spied - on my way to the Galley - a sign that read "Diana Ross Does Not Live Here Anymore". Even when she did, I'd place bets on her never having hung out at the Galley Cafe. To me, Galley Cafe is a breakfast joint, plain and simple. I've never had anything more than eggs and accompaniments on any of my visits and for that they do a fine job. Eggs arrive as requested and the waitstaff stands around to make sure you find the yolks as runny as you specified. It's a simple place with simple prices (under $7 total for eggs + toast) and good service. There aren't a lot of things in Newport Beach that have remained virtually the same for 50+ years. Other than new prices, new faces, and some tidying up, the Galley Cafe is one of them. They're not doing anything remarkable here but what they do has stood the test of time. We got recommended from someone to try this place out, very cute and nostalgic from the 50's. We came and the place did look super cute and very old school diner.... our son ordered kids French toast with bacon, I got a Denver omelet and husband got oatmeal. My hash browns and toast were definitely old and hard as rocks. My sons bacon was petrified bacon and definitely could tell it was old and cooked hours ago or maybe even days ago!! I asked for a new piece, she says " you don't like it that crispy?" Haha not we don't. Thinking they would cook one fresh, she brought out another old hard piece. Gross!! $40 later for old food, we won't be back again. Sad because this place couple be a gold mine if they didn't cut corners like this!
