Classic French Toast & Hot Latte
    Debbie O.

The French toast is perfectly moist on the inside, hot latte is nice. The London Fog is delicious even when made "less sweet" on request. Friendly service, which seems to improve each year! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bathrooms are clean!!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Some really nice art on the walls by local artists, capturing truly local sights.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have expanded their group activities and games for customers. I love their concept, and they have managed to execute it very well.

I was looking for a place to do some work and this place was the perfect spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have plenty of seating options which made it easier to get my work done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was happy to see their coffee/latte selection, and they not only have pastries, but they also serve salads, sandwiches and all-day breakfast items like breakfast burritos! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plus they have plenty of games to choose from if you're looking for something to do while you sip your coffee and eat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered my usual flat white latte (yum!) and we shared a pesto sandwich (double yum!). Super fun coffee shop worth checking out!

Their coffee drinks were spot on. Well balanced lattes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]People are super nice and the atmosphere is very friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you like games this is a good place to meet with friends and get together for a campaign. Dungeons & Dragons is fun and there are many other RPG games also.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You can bring your own, borrow one here or buy one to go. Great place to hang with friends with many choices of food and beverages! Definitely worth a look.

Dominic is a gem! He just embodies a welcoming coffee-shop feel that makes you feel like a regular. We got a Bard latte & Misty Step Latte. The Bard was so good (we did it with almond)- 10/10. The Misty was also good, I think I just expected a little more vanilla, it was very lavender-y. Otherwise, everything was delicious and fresh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had a great time exploring the store and trying new items.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I definitely overlooked this place, but I'm so glad I stopped in. Will definitely return again. Dominic, thank you for your patience and kindess with us, as we were super indecisive and took up so much time. You're the best!

Such a fun place! Everyone that worked there was so kind and nice. We walked in and went to the cafe counter and ordered a cold brew and a lemonade and once our friends met us we ordered a crepe, hot honey tots, and a grilled cheese. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything was so good and we had gone a little before closing on Saturday night and it was so chill and not overly crowded.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The employee behind the games counter explained how to play the game Azul which I've always wanted to play and was super kind and helpful. A great place to hang out, play games, and enjoy a drink or a snack 10/10 would recommend

I've always heard great things about this place! We finally decided to drop by on a Monday morning on the way to work. We parked on the small street next to it and there were like 3 people in there and 1 worker. I hopped in line and looked at their menu briefly. This place is much bigger than I expected! It looks like a really cool hobby shop and I hear it gets pretty busy here with open mic and other events. I ordered the iced horchata latte which came out almost immediately! I was very surprised at how quickly he made it. Their lids are a bit "annoying" because there's a plastic flap so whenever you touch your straw, it makes a really "nails on chalkboard" sound lol. The drink was good though! It's rare to find a good horchata latte nowadays. It was creamy and delicious, wish it had cinnamon to it, even just a little bit but otherwise it was great compared to some other ones I've had. This place is huge!! They have another big room that you can walk into as well. Tons of seating which is nice. Lots to look at as well. Definitely coming back to try their other drinks soon! Love the whole theme and vibe to this place. IG: @ammysalamii

I have driven past this place many times and never thought too much about it other than I thought it was cool to have a spot for games/drinks for those into that. Never expected it to be so popular and busy. Came here on a Thursday night for open mic, my daughter and boyfriend performed a few songs and I was so impressed, it was her first time and she did amazing, I don't think I could ever do that, proud of her. The place was packed with people hanging out, eating, drinking, playing games, watching the show, etc. it was a great time. The MC did a great job and so did the various performers. I would like to come back when they have another open mic night, it was fun and I tried a BJ Blonde Pale Ale that was pretty good as well. This is a small local business, which it is much bigger inside than expected, but go support them and have a fun night out. Enjoy!

I could get used to a place like this! I came here to get myself a white mocha before I started my training at my new job. Ryan, did really good job at ringing me up. As for the vibe, it gives a very nerdy atmosphere around here. I for one, could really enjoy coming here. Game N Grounds, I will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area! Thank you.

What a treasure! Needed a spot to work at near a friend's house and ended up with three unique games to gift my sister. They have large tables for board game lovers to congregate.

I really like the concept of this place. It's different and unique. I love that they are keeping old school board games alive with a fun space to play them. They have so many games you can play or bring your own. It's a cozy setup. You can sit inside or outside. They have food and coffee. All the employees I interacted with were very friendly. They even brought our dogs a water bowl while we sat outside on the patio with them. I haven't been in quite a while. I ordered the same drink that I had bought when I used to go more often. It was a chocolate banana shake with a shot of coffee. It was delicious. However when I saw the total of my one drink I was shocked. It was almost $11 and it was so small. I would say for $11 I got what was equivalent to a Starbucks small Frappuccino. It was gone so fast. If the prices were lower I would go way more or if I felt like I was getting $11 worth of a drink. The tater tots I got were $11. That I can stomach paying for more. So even though I love supporting local small businesses I just don't want to pay those prices. I definitely won't be a regular.

What a fantastic find! I had a client meeting here and it was really delightful. I'm not even a gamer, but I could definitely see coming here with friends or a date for a fun afternoon or evening. At this time, they're doing some work on their kitchen, and though I wanted something more savory I had a strong feeling towards the pumpkin muffin in the pastry case. Which is weird, because I don't actually like pumpkin. But this thing was delicious... fresh tasting and not overwhelming in the PSL kind of way. Coffee is also very good and I love the mugs. Tables are large enough for a meeting or a board game session. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I absolutely recommend!

Ask the Community - Game N Grounds

Is there any gluten free options?

We carry Gluten free bread, when able, that can be used with any of the sandwiches...also our tater tots are gluten free as well. We have Dom surprise salad on the menu too.

No phone number?? That's very odd for a business.

Not sure why there's no number on Yelp but on google its 818-818-6560. This place rocks!

Anyone know what's in their tater tot dipping sauce? It's SO good id love to make my own at home

Depends on which sauce you ordered? Was it pesto, bbq aioli or jalapeño sauce?

Are you allowed to bring your own board game?

    Yes! Just no outside food.

What time is last call for the kitchen?

Kitchen usually closes 45 minutes before closing time.

Are their games available to play or do we bring our own?

They have games they "rent out". Just give them an id to borrow a game and they'll give it back when you return the game. They also have games for purchase in case you're interested!

Is this a good place to study, are there outlets?

It's a great place to study. I've gone there to do work. Yes there are outlets, but you have to find a table that has one as I'm not sure if every single table has a dedicated outlet.

It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

The food has been enjoyable on my previous visits, which is why this last experience stood out. The food I ordered tasted great, and the beer and cocktails were excellent. Unfortunately, my friend's burger was served cold and wasn't cooked to his liking despite being specific about what condiments he could and could not consume. What disappointed me most was that our table felt rushed. From the time we sat down until the check was brought out, exactly one hour had passed. We were still enjoying ourselves and wanted to order another couple rounds of drinks, but the check arrived so quickly that it felt like we were being encouraged to wrap things up rather than continue our evening. I would've thought that was okay if the restaurant was busy, but it truly wasn't. Aside from our booth being in use, there were some people at the bar, another 2 booths occupied towards the kitchen side, and one table behind us at the corner in use, so it wasn't about them being busy. I'm hoping this was just a one-time experience because I've genuinely enjoyed my previous visits and would like to come back. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and I hope future visits feel a little more relaxed and allow guests to enjoy their time without feeling rushed to pay and leave.

All the servers here are attentive and offer to help with what to order if you're unsure. For dinner, the Crispy Pasta is their take on crispy pata but served with spinach tagliatelle. The crab fat fried rice is a no brainer and depending on the night you come, I highly recommend the Sinigang xiaolongbao special. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, with authentic flavors and quality ingredients that stood out from the first bite to the last. The ambiance was welcoming and the art was tasteful. What truly elevated the experience was the service. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making us feel genuinely welcomed throughout the meal. They were quick to offer recommendations and ensured everything was perfect without being intrusive. We ordered the tostaditas de atún agua chile negro, beet salad, carne asada taco and Al pastor taco and watched the World Cup game. Distrito Catorce combines exceptional food, a great atmosphere, and top-notch service. It's the kind of place that leaves you planning your next visit before you've even finished your meal. Definitely plan on coming back to watch more World Cup games.

To be honest, I was already biased because his Smorgasburg pop-ups were consistently good. But Distrito Catorce is different , it's like art. My favorite dish was the tacos de papa with salsa macha. The crunch of the potato taco riding into the salsa macha and crema felt like home, but with some extra pop. His salsa game is on point. The scallion salsa on the ribeye taco was also gas. Lastly, I really dug the tostadita de atún. It hit perfectly on these hot summer days. Low-key, I still want to try the El Rey de Noche. Tacos de beef trompo are starting to hit LA, and dude was ahead of the curve making picanha-brisket tacos de trompo. Service is smooth too. The servers are helpful, and solid at the bar. Overall, it's a cool spot with a menu that feels unique to LA.

Don't expect deference if you make a reservation! Good thing…read morethis place has delightful food, good waitstaff and inviting atmosphere. The hostess left something to be desired. I have been here a few times for dinner but this was first time for brunch. I made a reservation, was asked to confirmed reservation 3x, noted it was celebrating a birthday and gave no preference on seating. I arrived on time, but one of my group was parking. There were a few people milling around and I was greeted with "checking in?" No hello, no welcome, no mention of celebrating and told to let them know when entire party arrived. (This is becoming more common to be seated along with a $25 per person fee if I canceled less than 24hrs. I know restaurants are struggling but come on!) I watched as 'walk-ins' were given priority tables and when our party was complete, she was squeezing in a 3rd chair to a small cafe table right by the pass through door. No asking our preference. When she returned to seat us, I said "you're not putting us at that small table are you?" Her response - "yes...unless you want to sit inside." How was that not a conversation first? A professional would have said "I apologize, where would you prefer to sit? I see you made a reservation, are celebrating an event and we had some unexpected guests for seating options." Perhaps she was having a bad day, or was still reeling from a prior customer interaction but she was NOT up to the standards I equate with Manuela. Go for the food but don't think by making a reservation you get any special acknowledgement.
