An excellent experience from start (beef tartare amuse bouche) to finish (bourbon meringue). The real difference maker though was the service, especially that provided by Sean. My colleague and I are talkers. Sean indulged every question and opinion. He even acted like we were entertaining. Ask him about his wine collection. The stand-out appetizer was the octopus with an excellent mole verde and the striploin on the entree side. It's not a ton of meat but every bite you do get is incredible. Order the meringue. BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! We were wandering around looking for a restaurant as a last-ditch effort, and we stumbled upon Garrison's. It was rated 5 stars and the pictures of the food and restaurant looked appealing. The restaurant is situated in a very chic lobby with a movie set theme. From the second we entered, the ambiance and service was excellent. We walked up and asked for a table and were told it would be about a 10 minute wait to be seated, so we went to the bar to grab a drink. In the middle of grabbing a drink, the manager, Eric, pulled us away and said, since we were waiting for the drinks, he would bring them to the table and that the drinks would be on the house. We had not even been inconvenienced, but we appreciated the gesture. We were shown to our table by Eric and were Immediately introduced to our waiter, Jorge. Jorge was very helpful and knowledge about all the questions we had about the menu, the chef, and the restaurant. It was one of the best dining experiences and food I have ever had. My wife and I arrived for an early dinner at the Garrison. Let me just echo what others Yelpers have shared in terms of an amazing experience. The food was artfully balanced, perfectly cooked and beautifully plated. We followed a number of Eugene's recommendations and each dish surprised us in significantly nuanced ways that only added to the experience. BTW our service was friendly, perfect and exactly what you would hope for from Eugene and their entire team. Our dinner highlights included the Wood-Fired Avocado, Wagyu Ribeye and Tater tots. Others reviewers do a fine job of explaining each of these. Let me add another bonus for having a Stoller pinot on the wine list. Unfortunately, the restaurant is in an odd location within the hotel. We had to ask someone at the concierge desk to help point us in the right direction. It's tucked behind another restaurant within the hotel and the initial arrival experience is slightly off-putting walking through the other restaurant, but please don't let that discourage you from enjoying this gem. What a spectacular experience I shared with 13 guests at Garrison last night. We were celebrating a special occasion and needed to be accommodated due to the size of our party. We were unable to obtain a reservation through open table, which limits the size of the party to 7. Fortunately, I received some assistance from Greg (?), the general manager who, despite not having any tables large enough to accommodate 13, was able to improvise a solution. From the beginning, the hosts were all over it. As our guests started to arrive, they steered everyone in the right direction. One host gave me the run down on brunch at Revue, a sister restaurant also located in the Fairmont (for unofficial review of Revue, no pun intended, see below). As a result, I made reservations for 13 this morning at Revue. Our server at Garrison, originally from the Ukraine, moved to Austin about a year ago. HIs name is Eugene, so if you book a dinner at Garrison, make sure to request Eugene's table. He and his assistants were attentive and knowledgable, made great suggestions, and never left their eyes off of us. Eugene ran through the menu and the special preparation of dishes that were not self-explanatory and steered us in the right direction. We started with wood-grilled avocados, sourdough bread, and ricotta cheese appetizers. Garrison's theme is wood-fired grilled cuisine, which is especially fitting for all the entrees cooked over the wood, including a local redfish which was delicious, NY strip, and chicken. Other interesting entrees included a pork chop and a Waygu ribeye. The NY strip is served already sliced, with a nice char on the outside and perfect temperature (medium rare +). I enjoyed the chocolate souffle for dessert, a rich, cocoa-y flavor, served with a semi-sweet chocolate sauce and ice cream. At the end of the evening, Eugene indulged us by taking a group portrait on the Garrison "porch". No easy task, like herding cats. read more

I had reservations at Garrison and was seated immediately at a bar facing the cooking area. I was able to watch chef Jonathan work his magic on several different dinners. I started with octopus for an appetizer which was excellent, and followed that with eye of rib and mushrooms. This is one of the best dinners I have had in quite some time. Service was impeccable. These guys know what's up. Gone here a while back and it was so good I still think about how delicious and incredible everything was. I chose Garrison for a private dinner and it was the perfect choice. The room was just the right size for my 12 guests and was quiet enough that we could hear each other. Upscale decor and a long table set the mood. The waitstaff were very attentive, watching the cadence of our conversation and remaining unobtrusive while taking orders and staying on top of our drinks. The food was outstanding - beautiful AND delicious. Everyone had complements and at the end of the dinner they agreed that the evening was a hit. Best steak ever!!! My husband and I stayed at the Fairmont. Our first night there, we stopped for a drink at the bar in front of Garrison and saw all the food (and amazing smell). We went there for dinner the very next night because we couldn't stop thinking about it. It was the best meal I had in Austin during our visit - which says a lot because most of the food I had was incredible. We had a long, leisure meal, and an amazing bottle of wine. Everything we ate tasted like heaven. Everything. We did the steak for two, and there aren't words to describe how delicious the steak was. We made friends with the waiter, who was just the right amount of attentive, where we had conversations, but didn't feel like he was intruding. This is a balance not many waitstaff can achieve. The highlight of our meal was the sourdough bread and the ricotta cheese! The service was excellent but the food was not up to the mark. We ordered the porterhouse, wagyu and the chicken and the chicken stood out by far. The ambience was great and the open kitchen was great to see with the chefs doing their thing in plain sight. What a gem! In contrast to the Fulton bar (also inside the Fairmount) which looked packed as a beehive, Garrison was only moderately crowded the Saturday night we stopped in. The host found our reservation quickly and we were led to our seats. We were seated towards the back which gave us an opportunity to take in the restaurant while making our way there. It's beautiful! The blue and purple background lights added a dreamy touch that really sets the mood for romance. We were almost immediately greeted by our wonderful waiter, Eugene. It wasn't just his lovely sense of humor--he was helpful in describing and recommending menu items and always knew when to check up on us. The menu itself did not disappoint. Admittedly I was underwhelmed when I first saw it. I just didn't see anything new and inspiring; it seemed so basic. Boy am I glad when I'm proved wrong by food. Everything we had that night was a delight. The foie gras tart was beautifully balanced. The sourdough bread had fantastic chew and flavor. Manfriend swears the cod was the best fish he's had in Texas (I can't disagree), while my branzino was a close runner-up. As for dessert, I couldn't resist the rice pudding. Garrison is one of the few higher end places that I've seen offer rice pudding. And as everything else we had that night, it did not disappoint. The Garrison is A+++ I was having a staycation with a few friends staying at the beautiful Fairmont hotel. Before going out, we decide to pop into the Garrison for a bite to each and a couple drinks... I was blown away. The food was presented beautifully on each plate and tasted even more delicious. The service was top-notch and the manager even came in to personally check on how our meal was going. You will not be disappointed if you dine at this 5 star restaurant. I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. My fiancé and I recently had dinner here with another couple. The restaurant is in itself a sight to see. From the lobby through the dining entrance to the back where the Garrison restaurant is located is beautifully done. The initial dining area we passed through to get to Garrison had a few other eateries posted along each side of the dining area (an Italian restaurant & a chocolate shop from what I recall). The hostess informed us that the food from these places could be found on the Garrison menu as well. The Garrison entrance is located at the back of the initial dining area and the front edifice is actually an old house. I know it's hard to imagine...it's kind of hard to explain. It's a really cool concept though. We ordered a few apps which were really good. Our main courses however, were not as impressive. At least the entrées we got. My fiancé had the pasta with rabbit and I chose the pork chop dish. My dish was tasty but the portion was a little on the light side. My fiancé's dish was lacking some flavor and her portion was very light as well. I can honestly say I left the restaurant hungry even after having the appetizers and main course. Had the portions been a little bit heartier and the flavors been much more noteworthy I would have given Garrison 4 or 5 stars for sure. In my opinion as well as my party's opinion, the restaurant decor and ambience made the trip worth it. read more

Tucked away behind the Fairmont's other restaurant, Revue, there's a feeling of having a secret, exclusive experience. Champagne was given to everyone as soon as we sat down. Chef Jakub sent us a couple of bites to try before our appetizers came out & Eric, the General Manager, insisted we try the seasonal off-menu tomato tart which made me melt! AMAZING MEAL! We wanted grilled fish for a late night dinner (I know, odd) and Garrison didn't disappoint! Protip: sit at the bar/kitchen area and you can watch this talented chefs cook everything! They begin your meal with free grilled bread and butter (you can watch them make it in the kitchen!) and then small bites just to wet the palate. Then we got the broccolini and the branzino.......this May be my new favorite meal. And they threw in Brussel sprouts for free just because the chef wanted us to try them! I've never had Brussels melt in my mouth but oh my god. And finally they end the meal with a small bite of 2 sweet treats that they make in house. Located inside of the Fairmont hotel, which is beautiful and a great place for a date night. The ambience is very nice and service was great! Make sure to specify when you call for reservations that you want to be at Garrisons not the other restaurant called "Review" next to it. There was an issue with that as we were trying to get seated we were not on the reservation and were sat at Review. The manager at Garrison's was very apologetic and ended up making room for us. He provided best in class service to us throughout our evening. I enjoyed the experience but the style of food was not for me. Not your typical "Texas Steakhouse" menu items. My husband and I visited Austin this past weekend. We had a great time exploring the city and on our last night we just wanted something easy for dinner so we decided to have dinner at Garrison in the Fairmont Hotel where we were staying. We had low expectations due to the fact that the restaurant was in the hotel building and boy were we wrong. From the moment we walked in this place was different. We were greeted by nearly every one we walked by. Our server, Fernando, was absolutely wonderful. We went out our norm and shared the beef shank - it was out of this world. The accompaniments were divine, shisito peppers and brussel sprout slaw along with pickled veggies. We also had the tater tots which were amazing and a great pairing with the beef. The attention to detail that the staff takes at Garrison is perfection. The ambiance, the food, the service are all top notch. We loved the little details everywhere like the folded origami dessert menu, and the box that the bill came in. Thank you to Fernando and Garrison for capping off our visit to Austin so well! We will certainly go back, everything we had was very good and the meat had a unique flavor likely due to their wood fired grill. The ribeye was very good. So was the Foie starter. Service was great. Because the restaurant was in the interior of the hotel I could not help but feel like I was in Las Vegas, maybe it was the lighting or lack of windows. Pull up a chair and listen up I initially dismissed this place since it was inside the hotel we were staying in. Also, we're local Austin Folks staying at the Fairmont Hotel for a date nite. You kinda of expect this type of joints to be sub par or that the hotel Is just trying to make more money by keeping there guests on property. Well that may be the goal here but in this case it was backed up by a really great dinning experience. Me and the wifey were staying at the Fairmont connected to this place with plans to venture out in the evening to a near by yelp recommended spot. Alas, after a day of drinking and relaxing we found ourself far too lazy to walk 1 or 2 blocks to accomplish this. So, we agreed to scoot on down the elevator to the Garrison. From the second we were seated the service was firing on all 8 cylinders. Not just our server but the backwaters as well. They all enthusiastically presented food and drink options and our wine glasses were kept full. The food, mmmm. They have a wood fired grill and the smoke kisses all the dishes that come out. We had octopus, wood smoked bread (OMG LEVEL), the ribeye steak (presented sliced in half long ways with a ridiculously wood smoked crust on the outside) and two deserts. Our favorite desert was The Bourbon with its charred bourbon barrel shavings sprinkled across the top. I finished the night with there Bourbon tasting featuring there special reserve custom blended spirit from Garrison brewery in The Hill Country. They aren't related but they collaborated after realizing the names were so similar. What a hidden gem right in our backyard! Unpretentious, laidback and no waiting. Seriously one of the best dinners we have had in town and we have lived in Austin for over 30 years. We ordered the Porterhouse steak with the bbq cauliflower, roasted fermented carrots and tater tots with shaved truffles and aerated gruyere cheese(the sides and some entree's on the menu are subject to change, except the steak will stay). Overall the food was good. The grilled octopus and the coconut dessert w/ avocado ganache were impressive. Reading through the menu made me want to try everything. However, in terms of fine dinning, the food here seems to be complicated but not delicate enough, and tends to be on the over seasoning side. The over seasoning actually works well for the octopus and leaves a nice local mark (Mexican style). But the grilled eggplant was terrible and some other deep fried ingredients were a bit too oily, which surprised me as their food indicates some inspiration from Japanese cuisine. I thought it should be like the robata style eggplant (such an elegant way to present the veggie flavor and fleshy texture with minimal seasoning), but it turned out to be super oily and way too soft.
