What a cool place at the Hilton O'Hare Airport!!!! The decor is amazing! It feels and looks like a time capsule back to what I imagine were the roaring 20's!!! The waiters were wearing 20s themed clothes as well. I loved it! I honestly feel sad for my fellow yelpers that recommended stripping the place down and just keeping the chandeliers. Service was amazing! The place was completely full and the lovely lady who helped me (sorry I forgot your name, you were wonderful!) was awesome! I asked for recs and she told me what her favorite plates were and why. What a breath of fresh air! They have a full bar. A lot of people seemed very happy with their cocktails. There is also a live piano player, and as a lover of live music, I was very, very happy. The player was amazing, played some Frank Sinatra classics perfectly! I had the wedge salad. It was delicious. The lettuce was super crispy and super fresh, there was a perfect amount of Bleu cheese sauce and bacon on top. I also had the carbonara gnocchi. If you are a purist, it was not really classic carbonara sauce, but it was delicious! What I loved the most: the PERFECT texture of the gnocchi! It had the perfect amount of bite. So the place definitely has a speakeasy vibe and the staff dress that way for a moment but our check was given while she was wearing a sweatshirt. They were out of their well vodka and when I asked would I be charged for a premium vodka instead she said maybe!?! I am sorry you are out of the cheap stuff but I should not have to pay for premium when I am asking for less. They did just charge me for well but only after I asked. Also only 1 historical photo on the wall and she had to call someone over to tell me the persons name. I am sorry but customer service has fallen hard! I gave people 5 star service and got stiffed many times cause some people just don't tip but you should at least smile and act like you want me there and I never felt that here. This was a great find. I stayed here for a weekend trip and stopped in at this restaurant on a Fri night. It stays open to 11 which was helpful as my flight in was delayed. I sat at the small bar which was empty. There were a couple of big parties. There was a piano player and servers would step in and sing every now and then. The decor was amazing! Due to unplanned travel events, we ended up at the Hilton ORD (O'Hare airport) for a night. Seeking snacks, we wandered to this alleged "historic speakeasy". No greeting staff at the host stand, so we continued past the odd booths toward the bar. A smattering of maybe 6-8 diners in this large "old timey" room (think wood spindles mixed w vintage wall paper). I felt like I was in an old western movie instead of a Chicago gangster scene. There was a perfect secret entrance to a dining area disguised as a phone booth, and it was an empty room. They are missing an opportunity. Strange vibe... so we had a drink and bailed. I enjoy dining in an upbeat atmosphere, not twilight zone. (My Manhattan was not on the speakeasy level either). The Gaslight seems long overdue for a reboot. Save the chandelier and scrape/redo the rest. read more

Very quiet night at the Hilton O'Hare and there were only in 2 guests in when we walked in. There was no one in the foyer to greet us so we walked into the dining room to look for someone. We saw a couple at the end of the room, thought nothing of it until the lady stood up and asked if I'm we were there for a drink or dinner. So the first tip is - If it looks like there is no staff at the podium, walk right on in. Based on the reviews we opted to try the grilled tuna and chicken lemon we added on the fried calamari as appetizer and took a chance with it. We were afraid the battery would be too thick. Well, they aren't. Light batter makes it wonderful. Not so much taste though. Lacks the basic salt and pepper taste. This dish would be special if it came with aioli song sauce instead of the cocktail sauce provided. It tasted better after my we are salt and pepper. The 2 entrees were surprising good and has good value. The chicken breast was sliced into halves and pounded down so it is thin and tender. It was very salty for me though. Maybe they brined the chicken meat. The grilled tuna was nicely done at medium. The taste was ok - again add some salt and pepper and it is fixed. Both portions were large, which was the most surprising part. I thought for a fancy restaurant like this, portions would be small. Not at all. Located in the Hilton Hotel right across from the airport. This restaurant is considered a little bit more on the upper-end dining experience. Again, I don't typically recommend eating inside hotels unless you have to. I ate here because I had a conference and the food was paid for. Overall the ambience and atmosphere is very cool. It's got an antique, Prohibition era, type of decor. There is also a pianist that was playing Scott Joplin ragtime like the Entertainer, so it kinda makes you feel like you are traveling back in time. The bar gives you a very large portion of wine per glass (basically 2 glasses every time). I ordered the NY strip steak with asparagus and mushroom. Steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare), the asparagus was cooked through, but the mushroom was very underwhelming. Overall I think with the food and two glasses of wine, I would have spent close to $90 without tip. So overall the meal here is very expensive, but that's also expected given that it is located within the hotel itself. However under any normal days, I would not have paid over $100 for this meal. However given this was already all paid for, I will exclude my Yelp rating based on the relative cost-to-quality ratio and just focus on the quality. I definitely recommend this place for the vibe and if somehow you are able to eat here for free. read more

I've been to this restaurant many times over the past several decades. I've never seen it in such need of a cleaning as this time in. The carpeting was horrible with grease tracked in all the traffic areas. I could only wonder what the kitchen must be like. Food was as expected. It used to be the better choice when staying at the Hilton O'Hare. I don't feel I would go back until I noticed an improvement in the cleanliness of the dining room. Linens looked dirty as were the table cloths. The attention to detail once exhibited is totally missing now. Better to just eat in the standard restaurant there. read more

Excellent service, poor beer choices, but the T-bone steak was excellent, albeit a little thin, but still very rare, perfect for me! Sides are extra, twice baked potato was a little dry but tasty, spinach was perfect Cooke wilted with butter and garlic, asparagus was well cooked, although as a chef myself they should trim the hard ends off! A regrettable choice for our one night stay in Chicago. I ordered the rack of lamb. The lanb looked like it was just thrown on the plate. No garnish, no placement of ribs, just thrown on the plate. It was tasteless. Never had lamb that was tasteless before. I just couldn't eat it and had a couple of pieces. My husband had the steak. It was grisly and no seasoning. He left behind a significant amount. The mushrooms were the puffy canned ones that were just warmed up. Yuk. Had french fries but it was as the reconstituted ones. Cocktails not made well (and bartender at the bar next door said he's heard that a lot). Steak rare, not medium and since they never came to ask how the food was we had to get up and find our waiter who was apparently lounging in the back. No apology. Then when they brought the steak back, they picked up a napkin that had fallen on the floor but did not bring a replacement. Really just basic inattentive service. Had to ask for our check, which we were going to charge to our room but they didn't bring a pen and again disappeared, so finally just put a credit card. Still had to flag someone down to take it. I will start off with the highlight: the service was lovely. My waitress was very sweet and appropriately attentive. The maitre'd was roaming, the mostly empty place (I was there for a very early dinner) and checked in with me at appropriate times. I did not have the heart to tell them how really disappointing the food is, except that I did mention that the pasta was overcooked. The major response to this was interesting. He said "yes that's how we get it." What do you think he meant by that? Perhaps all the food comes from some central kitchen at the Hilton. I had the caprese angel hair pasta with shrimp, a side of spinach, and a glass of red Zinfandel. The pasta was so overcooked that the spoon was completely superfluous. The red sauce tasted like something that came out of a jar. It was very bland, and slightly pungent. The spinach was very garlicky, and unfortunately, the garlic was overcooked which makes it bitter. The wine selection is very limited, I tried the Cabernet, which was very sweet, and switched to the red Zinfandel, which had some interesting flavors, but ultimately, I drank maybe a third of it and left the rest. The warm Italian bread with butter was a nice touch. And I mostly ate that... I must address the artwork and the ambience which screams red light district trying to masquerade as, renaissance art gallery meets Gothic Harvard Club. There are very large paintings on the walls flank by large round red lights. Of the 6 paintings: four were Renaissance style naked women, one was some kind of a Spanish dancer (flashing the room), and the sixth was a group of scantily clad flappers surrounding and kissing a businessman. I found this distasteful and confusing. A very disappointing $75 dinner. read more

Wanted a hot meal after being stranded and missing all my connections. Wanted the bone in filet, but they were out. Haven't eaten all day & I am starving! Ordered calamari for apps and it was piping hot. Unfortunately no legs, but it was very good with a light batter. The asparagus was cooked perfectly as well as my steak. Definitely a hidden gem in airport dining! The steaks were cooked perfectly. Opted for a baked potato over their twice baked menu offer. Gaslight reminds me more of Hy's vs. Ruth Chris. I can't say enough on their interior design. I mean, I think I even saw a leg lamp from A Christmas Story in the corner. There's so much RED in the room, I expected to see a bull run thru at some point. The carpet screamed bloody murder in its varied shades of red as well. As for the food, the lemon chicken is delicious. The rice is not consistent or they changed the type. The filet is a nice cut of beef, and cooked to perfection. It's my first time visiting the Gaslight club. As an Oklahoma man I love a good steak. This was one of the better steaks I've had in Chicago. The meat wasn't "aged" as many Chicago restaurants proudly claim, but rather fresh. This is much better. Coming from a state where the cows outnumber the people and have a steakhouse in the stockyards I have to say I will be back for another steak. The Chicago O'Hare Hilton Hotel has so many things going for it, especially The Gaslight bar and restaurant. Televisions are everywhere blasting football, soccer, tennis (the US Open) and for me......Baseball! It's Labor Day weekend and in baseball, every game counts - NOW. So, my wife and I plop ourselves down under the Dodger v. Giants game, order our (more than generous) Hendricks Martini's and sip away. Two orders of really good fried chicken wings with 4 dipping sauces, two orders of coconut shrimp that were equally as good and and an order of French fries for our "Swan Song" Midwest trip last supper. The service at the Gaslight club was excellent along with "Indoor Dining" safety protocols. Our waiter this evening was this old school, old pro of a guy who really knew how to take care of his guests. He made this dinner special. So we were a party of 4 . I made a reservation for 1pm at the Gaslight club. We were clearly the first customers of the day and we were sat in the furthest, darkest table in the room. I ordered a seafood cobb salad that didn't resemble any cobb salad I had ever eaten before. First of all, it was served with a too vinegary dressing. There were no avocados or hard boiled eggs anywhere in this cobb salad! It was shrimp and calamari rings:( Our friends, although probably just being polite said their hamburger and sandwich were ok. My husband had a steak and he was ok with it also. We were never offered a second round of soft drinks until I asked for an ice tea refill; by then we were getting ready to leave. It is supposed to be presented in a speakeasy style but nothing there really evokes the time period. Overall the ambiance is kind of creepy and voyeuristic. The dark lounge area is decorated with massive nude paintings while a pianist struggles to play basic holiday tunes. The waitresses don't wear anything resembling 1920s clothing and also add to the weird vibe. I asked for a quick photo with my group since many were traveling from out of town and she suggested we move "to get some boobs in the picture." Actually this place is a total shocker. The Gaslight Club is American steakhouse inside the Hilton O'Hare, and typically airport hotel restaurants suck. Sorry, it is true - you pay a ton of money for a crappy meal. The money is not cheap, but the ambiance, the service, and the food were quite amazing for a place inside a tired Hilton hotel at O'Hare. Crazy. This one is a total surprise. A gem! The ambiance and looks are a total throwback to a bygone era when traveling via air was glamorous. Dark woods, booths, oil paintings on canvass with heavy ornate frames, a piano bar, and wiatresses in skimpy clothes. Actually quite good food, great service - a shout out to Carol who is a great bartender, server and conversationalist, and shakes awesome cocktails. I had the roasted duck and it was perfect, came with asparagus and spinach. Really delish. Who would have thunk it. Apparently the Gaslight Club as a restaurant was born in 1953, and this location has been here since 1973. If you end up being stranded at the airport, or going to spend a night at the Hilton O'Hare, and can spend $70 on martinis and dinner, you need to check out this place. read more

We had a late dinner at gaslight two weeks ago. They're known for their steaks. I was told. I ordered a $58 ribeye that was terrible. I ordered medium rare and it came out medium well and it was full of fat and grizzle. My wife ordered a Caesar salad with a piece of dried salmon on top $36. We ordered a side of mushrooms that seem to just come out of a can with no flavor or seasoning. I guess if you're in the hotel and there's not many places to go late at night for dinner, this is the only place around I wouldn't recommend it read more
