As the city was closing for the season we came across Geddys. What a lively atmosphere. With a 2 hour wait we decided to eat at the bar. We ordered the lobster bake and the fish and chips. The lobster was just an inch too soft maybe like 2 more minutes was needed to cook. I love lobster so I just ate it the way it came. The corn was perfect the was a snap in every bite. The soup was too cool, but I gave it to my partner and he didn't mind it warm. I like soup very hot. The fish was good. Crispy and hot the chips were not so great. I'd like thicker, crispier chips. They were not the same temp as the fish which was boiling hot. And worst thing of all, which was my fault, I had the blueberry pie packed up to go and I FORGOT IT ON THE TABLE. So sad about that. Lobster is expensive. So don't think this place is going to be cheap. The portions are kind of small but the food is pretty good. I'm not a blueberry pie kinda girl(it's just too sweet and not enough dimension for me) so I won't comment on that. Make a RESERVATION before you come in!!! There is easily an hour to 1.5hr wait especially on the weekends. It's a cute place for tourists. The food is a 3. Sweet and you can't even taste the alcohol. And it was pretty too with the compote and blueberries on top! Lobster, Bacon, Jalapeno Pizza - BEAUTIFUL! Probably among the top 3 pizzas I've had in life. Not even kidding. Perfect balance of the lobster + salty bacon + spicy jalapeno + creamy sauce + well-cooked pizza base. Just so good! Lobster Cobb Salad - Really good balance of flavor and texture. I didn't even need the salad dressing. Good amount of lobster and egg and bacon, just the right amount of blue cheese in there too. Was recommended to check out this spot as it's a local hangout in bar harbor and I'm glad I did! The inside is the typical coastal dive bar decoration, parking is limited due to it being competitive all throughout bar harbor, but is a great place to stop by for a beer or food. The clam chowder was amazing and hit the spot, and the bartender added a slice of their house made focaccia for me. The blueberry ale was fine (i prefer Atlantic's blueberry ale more). Service was extremely quick, and it was great to talk to the bartender and get some local recommendations on places to visit. read more

Interior is very cramped, not easy to navigate the aisles without getting run over by a server. They move fast... Very interesting menu. I had the seafood pie, my wife had the mini lobster bake (she likes to taste lotsa stuff). The seafood pie was super filling, could barely finish it. Lots of good seafood inside, but rather homogeneous so every bite tasted pretty much the same, good or bad. The mini lobster bake was excellent, the little blueberry pie was a nice finishing touch. I was so excited to try Geddy's while we were in Bar Harbor. They're listed on Wicked Gluten Free as a great allergen friendly place and they have a huge and explanatory A9 allergen guide that tells you exactly what's in things. Imagine my surprise when the hostess knew nothing about the food. Now I'm not saying that the hostess should necessarily know about the food, but when you advertise being allergen friendly, if the hostess can't answer a simple question as the first line of defense, you're losing those customers. Maybe don't advertise so hard on the allergens. We did notice that the waitstaff seemed to be far more knowledgeable than the hostesses, but you have to be trusting enough to get past the hostess. If you're ordering take out, you have to order online, which isn't a typical online ordering software, and had no space for comments. Now to the food. There are a ton of gluten free options. Calamari, fish and chips, clam chowder, chocolate cake, and more, this is just what we ordered. Everything really looked great, although the calamari came with a cabbage salad that wasn't mentioned. It tasted great initially as well, until the overwhelming flavor became salt. Also as a side note: Geddy's puts ketchup in their tartar sauce. Sounds like thousand island to me. With high hopes, Geddy's probably isn't a place that I'd return to. read more

Grabbed dinner here during our visit to Bar Harbor. It's centrally located among the many shops and places to eat, and it has a local feel. DJ was our server, and he was welcoming and friendly. As most places do, they serve a fresh lobster roll that is very good, but my wife took DJ's recommendation of the seafood pie, and that would be my go-to choice. It's fabulous. Don't go to Geddy's if you're an unabashed foodie and a tad bit snobby about your cocktails, like me.  Go to Geddy's for a cold beer and reliably good, fresh seafood (and other pub-style dishes). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Any restaurant that's been around 50+ years and survived COVID-19 must be doing something right. It's easy to see why Geddy's is a survivor. They've found a niche in the Bar Harbor dining scene. First, it's conveniently located steps from the Bar Harbor Common and the pier. Second, the food and service are pretty much what you expect as soon as you walk in the door--in a good way. Reasonably priced, fresh, good. We had reservations but were able to be seated sooner by sitting at the bar (which we like to do anyway). We ordered drinks as we looked over the menu.  I knew I probably should have ordered a cold beer when I saw our very young (and very pleasant) bartender looking up the recipe for a Manhattan on her phone. Upon delivery of said drink, I learned that the term "very dry" didn't register with her either. I fault myself for not reading the room better, not her. Geddy's is an excellent place to have a cold beer or one of the listed house specialty cocktails. We had oysters to start. They were fresh and served perfectly chilled (how we like them), but there was little or no variety. Just 'fresh local (nameless) oysters.' I can't complain, though; they were good. Then, I had the "House Specialty" fish and chips. The fish was excellent and perfectly fried in a seasoned breadcrumb coating instead of the usual beer batter. I really enjoyed it very much. The fries were a bit of a disappointment, though--pretty bland and undercooked. They should have stayed in the fryer a bit longer and come out of the kitchen seasoned in some way.  My partner had the "Gulf of Maine Salmon Teriyaki" which came on a bed of jasmine rice and a side of vegetables (green beens I belive). She enjoyed the salmon but tought the vegetables were pretty bland.  All in all, Geddy's is a solid choice for a reasonably priced good meal in downtown Bar Harbor. However, unlike me, you should go in with the right expectations and order accordingly. read more

I really enjoyed my time at Geddy's! My husband and I had been roadtripping all day and had just checked into our hotel, so we needed somewhere casual, but delicious for dinner. This place is a bit eclectic inside - but we had fantastic service and a great meal. We started with the mussels (not pictured), which were good; it says they are served with focaccia bread - but it definitely wasn't like any focaccia bread I've ever had. Still good - just not what was advertised. Then, my husband got a normal portion of clam chowder and the lobster roll with fries. I opted for the mini lobster bake - which came with a small clam chowder, a mini lobster roll, and a blueberry cream cheese tart. First, the chowder was good; it is on the thinner, soupier side and I wish it was a bit more on the stew side. But flavor was on point! Then, the lobster was fantastic! I even felt my mini roll was a perfect size. Then, I wish I could have ordered five more of the blueberry cream cheese tarts; as someone who doesn't love blueberries, I absolutely LOVED this small treat. read more

We were hungry for oysters and a cold beer after a long Ebike tour through Acadia. We didn't have reservations and took our chances that we could get into Geddy's. We walked in and got two seats at the bar just as folks were leaving. We ordered two Allagash Whites (great beer from Portland) and 6 Moon Dancer oysters. Perfect. We then ordered two different pizzas to go because we had to pack up to leave. When the bartender brought them out, she noticed one was wrong and immediately ordered it again. She was efficient, if not a little abrupt because she was busy. The pizza's were very good considering this is not a pizza parlor. We were walking through town and looking for a place to eat, and stumbled upon Geddy's. The decor inside is very kitschy and fun! Full of license plates and other thing-a-majigs. I went with my two kids, so I appreciate that they had a kids menu with a variety of selections. One of my kids got buttered noodles and the other got chicken tenders with fries. The best part was that their food came served in frisbees that they get to keep afterwards. My wife and I shared the calamari appetizer and the mini lobster bake. The mini lobster bake was great because it was a mini lobster roll, clam chowder, and a blueberry cheese tart. Food was pretty good! I'll make this quick, one of the best fish and chips I've had in a very long time. Perfect amount of breading. Light, well cooked, tartar sauce that was really really good. Mojito was on point. My wife had the bacon jalapeño lobster roll that she said was amazing (I didn't even get a taste so that may tell you something!). Our 3 year old had the Mac and cheese with a hot dog, which is always sure to put a smile on his face. On the topic of our 3 year old, Sarah P. Is an great server! She was patient and thoughtful. I was hesitant about coming here because I feared it might be too touristy for my taste. But after doing my fair share of research on Bar Harbor restaurants, I decided to give it a go, and I must say, this place is definitely worth the hype even though it is located in a tourist trapped area! I was reading up on this place and thought it was pretty cool that the seafood offered her comes straight from the harbor. I ordered two things, to start off, the steamers and I was wowed by how amazing they were. Then I went for the full Lobster meal which also came with corn on the cob and New England clam chowder and at the end- a blueberry pie. With the lobster for $4.00 more you have the option for the chef to open up the lobster for you and serve you all the meat without the hassle of digging through and cracking the shells which is perfect for those who don't have experience with opening a lobster. I however am a pro and throughly enjoy the full experience of going through a full lobster. Now I am from New Jersey, I am use to experiencing phenomenal seafood when it comes to clams and lobsters- however, this Lobster had to be the best I have ever had in my life- I am actually upset because it has changed my mind about eating lobster anywhere else ever again. Every single bite was pure buttery magic. The corn on the cob was also very fresh and New England clam chowder I found to be very average. Now onto the blueberry pie- I hate blueberries and I'm not a big pie person but somehow this place changed my mind because I thought WOW is this how really good pies are suppose to taste?! The fish and chips were absolutely amazing! The batter was different from the typical batter. The server said it was made from rice flour, corn flour, and chickpea flour so that those who don't eat gluten can have it too. The fish was moist and flaky. We also ordered calamari for our appetizer which was served on a bed of slaw. The slaw consisted of cabbage and peppers with a sweet chili sauce that complemented the calamari. Lobster "lazy style" (add $4) We were recommended this place from somebody in a gift shop and when we came in they were on an hour wait !! even though it's raining heavily here. Every staff member that works here is super friendly and we even saw a few crewmembers from Adventure OTS sneaking in some time off ship eating lobster oysters muscles and clam chowder (by the way the clam chowder is exceptional). Very popular and fun atmosphere. Better make reservations or be prepared for a long wait - although bar seating is 1st come 1st serve. Small quieter dining room in the back, so likely you may be seated in the bar area tables even with reservations. Tables are pretty close together. We were seated in the bar area and would have much preferred the main dining room. Our service was great with Keagan. He did a good job being attentive to our needs and keeping us informed. I thought spirt and wine prices were pretty reasonable - especially for a vacation spot. We began with a steamed clams appetizer. Large clams and very good, although pretty high price for clams at $24. We found the clam chowder ok, but too thick and a bit flour taste. The Lobster in the Lobster bake was great. For $48 you get a 1 lb lobster, ear of corn, and small clam chowder. A bit high for lobster in Maine but have to remember in a tourist area. The lobster was perfectly steamed, tender, juicy, and sweet flavor. Seemed very fresh. The accompanying corn was pretty bland and while tender may have been sitting for a time before being served given the flavor. read more

If you decide to dine at Geddy's, I highly suggest making reservations online ahead of time as there could be quite a wait for dinner (evening during the week). I tried to go here for dinner on a Monday evening and were quoted a wait of 1.5 hours (they text when your table is ready). We decided to go elsewhere, but came back for lunch a couple days later. Food and service here is pretty good. Prices for their lobster are pretty comparable to other restaurants downtown. Opted to share the Cap'n Geddy's Lobster Bake, which came with a cup of clam chowder, steamed lobster (1-1.25lbs), corn on the cob, and a slice of blueberry pie. Market price for this was $48. I tried a little bit of the clam chowder, which I didn't care to much for. The lobster was fairly meaty, tender, and a little sweet. Corn on the cob was standard, but it was nice to get a whole ear of corn rather than half. Blueberry pie wasn't bad. It was packed with berries and was slightly sweet. I thought the crust could have been cooked longer as it seemed a little raw. I also tried some of the salmon teriyaki, which was surprisingly pretty good. The salmon was cooked well and wasn't drenched in teriyaki sauce. The rice on the other hand was overcooked and pretty sticky. read more
