The owner is amazing! He was very helpful - he had a problem with payments and he made it happen (I normally depend on Apple Pay when I walk the streets). Anyway this is of course more about the food. I ordered fried chicken plate- which came more of chicken fingers. Which I do not mind. The plate comes with fries (or in this case more like chips) a salad and two dips. Salad - well don't really expect a salad it's a bunch of shredded lettuce nothing else! The chicken for my taste was about do dry just a did overdone. It tasted great especially with the curry mayonnaise (one of the dips). But the star of that plate have been the fries - cut as chips it was clear they are home made and so delicious. It was perfect to dip in both sauces. Would I come back - yes I would not drive over but if I am close i would stop to eat there. I would take the sandwich tho to have not that excuse of a salad on the plate lol. If the sandwich doesn't come with fries I would definitely get a side of them. Maybe I would even drive for the fries tbh there have been that good. Hard to know when he is open and says he closes at 6 but was open later when I went. I like the naan wrapper for the fried chicken "sandwich". It was soft and moist not dried out. The chicken comes in small pieces fried with some good flavor. I can't comment on all the toppings as I go pretty plain. The chicken wasn't dry but since they are small pieces they also aren't juicy. Not entirely sure how to categorize the food here (Southern with Indian influence?) but the General has some mighty fine chicken. The proprietor greeted us with small cups of some delicious chai and said their specialty was fried chicken. Of course I had to order and try it. It took maybe 10 minutes but it was piping hot. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. Bonus points for it being gluten free. It came with two dipping sauces: a curry flavored one which I didn't care for, and a mint (?) one, kind of like a thick raita I guess. That one was good, especially with the potato rounds. It came with okra, which was fried but with no coating on it. Location is easy to find, the cart is right up front by the curb. Definitely going again for more chicken! read more

Yes please! The sun, star and moon finally aligned for us t check out General Burnside's and what the heck were we waiting for?!! Is exactly what we asked ourselves after sinking or teeth into our first bite of his specialty fried chicken. What was that amazing blend of seasonings between the breading and the various dipping sauces? Each sauce when mixed with the chicken created an entirely different mouthful of amazing flavors with each bite. Sauces: The white dill sauce was really good and we're perfect with the chicken and a bite of the side pickle. The yellow sauce that at first glance looks like mustard had a curry tone to it that when mixed with the chicken was like a mini trip to the Taj. The red dipping sauce was yet another great compliment too the chicken. Chips: Next were the hand cut chips. These were delicious! I'm a sucker for potatoes but in the same breath am very picky and particular. These were fried but not drenched in oil; first plus. They were also just the right thickness so you weren't chewing for days to finish one chip. That also made them more on the crispy side which we both really like. The wife loved the ones that were thin and all crunch. They also weren't salty at all which we appreciate. After being served our dish I felt the pricing was spot on and really invited us to want to come back to try everything else (since we could definitely afford to). Last but not least the gent working the window, Tamore (spell chk), was a really nice and chill Kat. He played some great instrumental tunes that we really enjoyed while we ate and kicked it next to his pod. There is a cool little shaded area with a tree trunk, wall and chair for like 2-4 ppl. This is seriously a diamond in the rough. Timur is a passionate chef with surgical experience when it comes to his cuisine. His recipes are created from the heart and refined by his fire. I had a great opportunity to converse with him and learn about his journey. The food. Great. Awesome portion. Awesome price. I'm not kidding, but he gave me the best damn boneless fried chicken I've ever had. He has a platter that comes with the chicken, homemade chips, fried okra, and a slew of handcrafted dipping sauces. Everything was choice and on point-I cannot stress this more. Man makes a great cup of real chai and a mean lamb sausage. Please don't stick to the norm and rise up to try these amazing renditions of what craft food should taste like. That is what got him into the business in the first place. I have eaten an awful lot of vegetarian versions of meat dishes in Portland, and the vegan wings here really stood out. I liked that the vegan wings were made from big, hearty chunks of cauliflower, but the best part was the breading. It was so crunchy and chewy and flavorful. The wings came with sauce, but I found that they were seasoned so nicely that I really enjoyed them even without the sauce. The vegan wings were $5 and the serving was hearty. KNOW YOUR POLITICS BEFORE EATING THIS CHCKEN. I've always wanted to eat at this place, but they are so seldom open, that I've always missed them. Friday at 2:30pm, I was walking down Hawthorne stapling flyers to the poles. I stapled one in front of General Burnside's and kept walking. Then I heard some shouting and turned, and the guy from the truck was running out to the pole. He pulled the card off & flicked it to the ground, while glaring at me. Ok. I get it! Not everyone wants the pole in front of their business covered with flyers. No big deal. I'm not one to leave my flyers laying on the ground, so I turned back to pick it up, when he said, and I paraphrase, "This is the general's territory." I picked up the card and said, "What?" And he started getting all hot and bothered and muttering things about the Union. We were a foot or two apart. I said, "Whoa, no problem man. I'm not mad, just wondering what you mean by the Union." (I figured he means something about a food truck worker's union, for example.) Then he started saying something that might have been derogatory or just idiotic, about the Union and the Confederacy and an insult or two. He finished it off with, and I quote, "You're pretty stupid, you're wearing an Obama Shirt." When you eat his chicken, keep in mind the sort of person you are supporting. Cool little place. They make everything super fresh. The chicken comes out incredibly juicy, which may not be to everyone's taste. It took me a few bites to get the hang of after being used to dried out garbage fried chicken. The potatoes are great but you gotta eat them fast before they get soggy. I got the fried okra but can't really comment on it. Okra has never really been my thing. It... it might be good? I don't have a comparison. It was edible. Definitely better if dunked into enough of one of the three random sauces that come with the chicken. Potato fries (cut as chips) are a little undercooked, but the spice coating makes up for it. A yogurt dill dipping sauce forgives many sins with a piece of nan bread to sop it up. The owner is friendly, came out to talk, and offered a taste of his homemade chai. It's not to my particular taste, a little sweet, maybe liquorice, but very good. A hidden gem of a food cart that should be moved to the forefront where all hungry people can see it. We had the fried chicken pieces that came with fried potato slices and a thick bread called nan. All of the flavors are so good. Only thing I didn't care for was the potatoes but only because I like crispier potatoes. The owner is very friendly and I'm sure he would've made them crispy if I requested it. He immediately gave us a sample of his chai tea and chatted with us. The chef Timur is both an incredible and passionate cook as well as one of a kind in his approach to dining -- his dishes across the board are delicious and unparalleled, with a twist that draws from east coast dining to Middle-Eastern to Indian. This cart is funny. The owner is... Just a funny guy. The hours are not listed anywhere as far as I know. Which is weird. When I first came here I walked up to window and was greeted by an empty food cart. It said it was open. No one was there though. Came back 15 minutes later and proceeded to eat the best fried chicken ever. I mean, this is just as good as screen door. A different texture and taste. But the quality is the same I mean. I can't wait to try more items on the menu. But do take note of the fact that his hours and literal presence is unreliable. Still not enough for me to be mad!
