Great food and service! If you're looking for the best brunch or breakfast spot in sac, look no further than Genki Kitchen. The team and owner provide excellent service and make you feel welcomed in, like you're part of the family. If you're curious about the food: The Loco Moco & Chicken and Waffles were 1. savory umami bombs 2. portioned for two 3. presented with attention If you've had this place sitting in your pins or lists to go, I encourage you to go as soon as possible! Make an opinion for yourself, but mine is definitely positive. Can't wait to comeback to enjoy something new!

The location is in a cute boutique mall (antique shops and aikido), with a good amount of dedicated parking. Seating inside is comfortable, decorated in neutral tones, with high ceilings crossed by wood beams. While Japanese food isn't what I would normally think of for breakfast, after trying Genki Kitchen, my whole perspective has changed! Take the thoughtfulness and precision of good Japanese/Hawaiian food and mash it up with fried chicken and eggs benedict, and you've got some out-of-this-world flavors (and a very full and happy stomach). I ordered the Genki Benedict, and the balance of milk (!) bread to egg to spam was spot on. Just the right amount of crunch and saltiness. Also the poach was really perfect. Soft and creamy but not running all over the moment you cut into it. To top it off the yuzu hollandaise (served on the side by default) was sweet, fruity, and creamy. Best hollandaise I've had, hands down! Service was very friendly and informative. Will definitely be back and try their lunch menu as well. The Genki poutine (fries with Japanese curry and an egg) sounds amazing!

Genki is a solid breakfast brunch spot my wife had on her list of places to try. I absolutely love the high ceilings in the space which makes the smaller restaurants feel enormous and spacious. Both times we've been here we were immediately greeted by the host, a younger boy, which added to the warmth of what is most likely a family-run restaurant. That warmth extends to the food offerings which consist of Japanese-Hawaiian-American fusion and comfort food. Their loco moco with a tornado egg is a stunning and delicious dish and I love that it comes with 2 styles of gravy! The yuzu hollondaise has the perfect amount of tang to help cut the richness of the spam and milk bread in the benedict. I feel as though the chicken katsu and waffle was missing an element to really make it perfect. I would have added the katsu sauce or pickled ginger to really elevate it. The okonomiyaki was excellent and I loved the amount of vegetables in it. Overall, I really like Genki for the speed of service, friendliness, and inventive food combinations.

Fantastic quality, creative menu options. Their katsu and bread options have no business being this good. And their potatoes. It's like the universal perfect ideal you have in mind when you want crispy in the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. My wife had the Benedict with the yuzu Hollandaise and I had the chicken and waffles. The spam on her Benedict was surprisingly tangy (in a good way). The serving size on my chicken and waffles was overly generous . . . to the point of being over the top (I couldn't cut into it without spilling a lot onto the table). The coffee was fresh brewed but a little mild and lukewarm to my taste. The interior was a bit sparsely decorated, though the belt-driven ceiling fan system was cool (no pun intended). Minor gripes aside, the quality of the preparations and the friendliness of the staff will bring us back here in the future.

We had SUCH a good experience at Genki Kitchen. It's one of those places where you can immediately tell there's a lot of love behind what they're doing, and knowing it's family-owned made it even better. We definitely ordered enough to get a real feel for the menu and honestly, everything was so good. The Loco Moco was one of my favorites because we tried it with both the brown AND white gravy. The brown gravy was rich, savory and super comforting, but the white gravy surprised me the most because it almost tasted like a creamy clam chowder. I was not expecting that at all, but it worked SO well with the dish. The Katsu Chicken & Waffles was another standout. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and still juicy, and the waffle was fluffy with just enough sweetness. We found out their son had made the waffle batter fresh that morning, along with the whipped cream, and I swear details like that make you appreciate the food even more. The French Toast was beautiful and tasted just as good as it looked. Soft, rich, slightly sweet, with fresh fruit and that homemade whipped cream on top. Definitely one of those dishes everyone at the table keeps taking bites from. We also tried the Beef Udon, which was exactly what I wanted after all the sweet brunch flavors. Tender beef, chewy noodles and a warm, savory broth that was so comforting. And the Japanese Michelada was such a fun surprise. Savory, refreshing, a little spicy and just different enough from a traditional michelada to make it memorable. One of the things I really loved about Genki beyond the food is how intentional they are about supporting other local Sacramento businesses and specialty producers. We're in the Farm-to-Fork Capital, so I LOVE seeing a local family-owned restaurant put that into practice and keep that support within the community. Everything from the flavors to the presentation felt thoughtful and high quality. Truly a 10/10 experience for us. And now I already want to go back because there are way too many things on the menu we didn't get to try.

Genki has a lot of potential to do well, although there is still some room for improvement. I really like their Hawaiian-Japanese fusion brunch concept and the menu is straight forward and simple. The Genki Benedict was served without the yuzu hollandaise sauce, which I didn't realize until after the fact. That was partly my fault for not bringing it up, so I didn't get the full experience of the dish. I'm sure it would've tasted even better with the sauce. The potatoes were also a bit cold. The butter, however, was nice and creamy. The Ika Geso was good, lightly battered and fried just the way I prefer and the sauce paired well with it. The Country Fried Katsu was also good, but again, the potatoes were cold. The Curry Chicken Katsu Don was probably the best dish. Overall, the prices are reasonable, the place is clean, and the staff was welcoming. I'd definitely give Genki another try, especially since the concept has a lot of potential.

Just when I think I've had it all, we find a new spot that becomes another favorite! Genki has a fantastic brunch that is worth celebrating! We came in about 10 midweek and it was empty, so we got lots of time to chat with the folks working which was honestly a delight. They were all so friendly and wonderful. The vibes are super comfortable and very perfect for the food served. I had the Okonomiyaki which was a pillowy, savory dream! My husband had the Benedict which was also wonderful, one of the best hollandaise I have ever had! The potatoes were also super yummy. We split some delicious tempura as well! This wonderful little shop is truly a gem!

Genki Kitchen is a unique brunch spot that serves up Japanese inspired brunch and lunch items. It's in a nice and cozy space that can get quite busy. I found the service to be excellent and friendly. The servers were quick as well. On my visit to Genki I had the opportunity to try the loco moco, udon, and tempura. The loco moco was good and came with a good amount of food. It was also presented nicely. They do the thing where it comes with the knife stabbed into the top of the food. There's also a pretty flower on the top that I think is just there for decoration. It's not necessary, but makes for a pretty photo. The best thing about the loco moco was the hamburger on the top. I found it to be of good quality and size - it's not one of those skinny fast food patties. The only thing I wasn't a fan of with the dish was the sauces, which I found to be a bit heavy handed and rich. Eventually all the rice was soggy. As for the udon, I personally found the broth to be much too sweet for my liking. It was an enormous bowl, but I couldn't get over the sweetness. My kid, who we gave some to really enjoyed it so I guess it's just a matter of taste. As for the tempura, I thought it was fine and did the job, but it didn't blow my mind. Genki Kitchen definitely has some unique and playful items. They are also only open for breakfast and lunch.

Came here on a whim and so glad we did! Their menu is so fun and the service is great. The person who took our order (I think she was the owner) took the time to answer my questions and was very friendly. The food was 100%. Really wish I had a larger stomach to be able to finish my order and also try their other items! Can't wait to go there again!

Finally stopped by for a brunch date and my oh my it has become my fav stop ! It was busy even in a Wednesday but we waited not too long to be seated ! Customer service was warm and welcoming ! Everything we order was delicious ! The kaarage chicken was fried perfectly crispy yet juicy! Came on a Saturday for brunch. They weren't busy so we were seated after just a few minutes. I'm not sure why there are so many amazing reviews or maybe I just came on an off day but I thought the food was just okay and nothing special. Could use a little more flavor imo. I will also add that I asked for my eggs over easy but they came out as well done sunny side. Eck. Our food also took a looooong time to come out. They weren't even busy and I observed most of the other tables were also waiting a long time for their food. Again, not sure if I came on a bad day, but food took over 50min to come out. That is way too long. I think over time I may decide to try it again, but I do recommend not coming while already starved, especially not with hungry kids.

Everything I ordered was super delicious--honestly not a single miss. Each dish was flavorful, well-prepared, and felt thoughtfully made. We had a great experience at Genki kitchen. First, people are great! We were seated right away for table of 2, ordering was fast. I took their advice of what it is famous for- the loco moco was superb , big portion and you can take home if can't finish in one seating. The teriyaki steak was delicious too. The Food, the service, the ambiance and the Owner Dan were so amazing! It was my friends and I's first time there and forsure will not be our last. The menu had so much to choose from it was hard to pick just one thing so we got a few things off the menu lol and they all tasted amazing that I cannot not say that I licked my plate clean . I literally never write reviews, but the food was so good that I felt compelled to rate! We got the Unagi Breakfast Skillets with rice, draped with a tornado omelette. Literally the best breakfast I've had in a while. And the server was super nice and accommodating! We got the loco moco and the country fried katsu! Both dishes were incredibly delicious. Such unique flavors with the fusion - definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Sacramento! We were bummed we couldn't eat more but we also couldn't finish our meals with how huge the portions are! Very much looked forward to leftovers. The service was super kind here as well. A hidden gem with great food and has awesome service. Nestled between antique shops, it might be hard to see at glance however the restaurant itself is actually really cool! My kids and I were in the area and randomly came across Genki Kitchen, so we decided to check it out. Looked like they were in their soft opening stage. No lie, the food is delicious! My husband and I loved the Loco Moco and the Benedict. The volcano egg was beautifully cooked, and the sauces are *chef's kiss* for the Loco Moco. However, we did not have a great experience with the service. It wasn't anything big, but just a bunch of small things that ultimately culminated in a poor experience. I was served coffee in a dirty glass with a lipstick stain on it, which was no biggie. Stuff happens. But then, similar to the table next to us, we waited around an hour or so for our food. However, unlike that table (where their server continued to check in on them, apologizing, offering free drinks, etc), we were pretty much ignored until our food was delivered with a brusque "Sorry for the wait". The icing on top was our server coming over to clear the table not even 20 minutes after our food was delivered. Yes, my husband had finished -- because he wanted to get the h*ll out of dodge. But I wasn't done yet. Because we had waited so long, I had stopped feeling hungry by the time my food was delivered. I took a pause with a half full plate just to figure out if I was eating to eat (vs actually still having room/space to go), and the server just swooped in with the check and started to clear our table. I did get mildly upset at this point, pointing out that 1) the food was delivered after a long wait, 2) I wasn't done yet, and 3) it hadn't even been 20 minutes since the food was delivered. (And yes, the table next to us got to ask for their check. And no, there weren't other customers waiting -- the restaurant was half full at this point). Obviously, people are busy. My husband and I came during lunch hour on a weekend. We knew we were going to have to wait, and we did so without issues. However, seeing the vast difference in service between us and our neighbors was pretty jarring, and made for an overall unpleasant experience. Sad, because the food really is delicious. But we won't be back. :( read more

Found this gem next to antique stores and it did not disappoint. Walked in and immediately acknowledged by friendly staff. Lots of yummy food choices from omelets to Ramen and Japanese twists on breakfast classics. We ordered the omelet, Ramen and pouting fries each plate was a nice size portion and full of flavor. Today is my second time here and I can't wait to come back and bring others here for brunch. All my requirements are met with: plenty of parking, attentive service, and the food --flavorful portions big enough to share (or more for yourself). It's also difficult to decide what to oder; everything looks and tastes so good! With the complimentary tea and coffee, it's clear that they enjoy exemplifying stellar hospitality. They're the type of people who will remember you! It's one of the things that can make Sacramento feel like a community, not just a city. Ok, ok, onto the food and drinks! It's my goal to try everything here that's not chicken. (I personally avoid chicken for personal reasons lol.) Their Thai coffee is so good. Reminds me of Thai tea and I like it without an extra shot of espresso for it to be on the sweeter side. Their Moo Ping (pork skewers) were decent and their tamarind with rice powder dip is classic and so easy to finish. Their burger is a classic cheeseburger paired alongside Thai Lays potato chips. It's a staple for me, I've had it twice and WILL be ordering it again when I'm in a burger mood. Their chili oil?!?! I NEED A GALLON OF IT! It has spice, flavor, and pairs so well with all the items I've tried. I like their beef curry with the little roti cut up. I definitely can consume a whole big bowl of it. Located on the corner of O and 14th, you'll find this cute spot with the pink umbrellas. It's a spot in Sac that I hope stays open for decades. If I'm not here on the weekends, check on my mental health.

When I walked in, the cashier didn't seem very welcoming, and I let her know that it was my first time there. Since I wasn't familiar with how ordering worked, especially with the build your own vermicelli noodle bowl, I was hoping for a little guidance. Instead, she pointed at the menu and said, "It's here," followed by, "Which meat do you want?" and "What sauce?" When I asked which sauce she recommended with the bowl I chose, she responded, "OG Buddha is the usual sauce ." Her tone and demeanor came across as annoyed, so I didn't feel like I received the welcoming experience I had expected based on the reviews I had read. Initially, I ordered my food to go because I wasn't sure whether the dining area next door was part of the restaurant. Once I realized that it was, I asked if I could change my order to dine in because I wanted to experience the restaurant. She seemed annoyed by my request but told me she would let the other staff know. Afterward, I wasn't given an order number or told where to wait, so I sat on the bench near the ordering area. As I waited, I noticed the cashier interacting more warmly with some of the customers who came in after me. During one of those interactions, I overheard her mention that she was hungover and wasn't having a good day. I completely understand that everyone has difficult days, but I still believe customers should receive consistent service regardless. There also seemed to be some confusion between my order and another customer's order. Eventually, the cashier told me that I could sit in the dining area and that they would bring my food out when it was ready. I really wish this had been explained to me from the beginning, especially after I mentioned that it was my first visit. Once I sat down, my experience improved significantly. About five minutes later, another employee brought out my food, and she was very sweet and attentive. She asked if I needed anything else, and I requested a cup of water. She kindly went and got the water for me. I later realized that the drinks were self serve, which I hadn't known. I actually felt bad that she went out of her way to get it for me because I would have happily done it myself if I had known! She was incredibly kind about it, though, and I appreciated her service. The dining area itself was clean and interesting. It appears that two separate restaurants share one central dining space, almost like a Jack and Jill setup, with a restaurant on each side and the shared dining area in the middle. I do think the dining area could use some improvement when it comes to instructions for finished dishes. I couldn't find a designated station to return dirty plates, and it seemed like other customers were confused about this as well. Many of us didn't feel comfortable simply leaving our dishes on the table for the bussers to collect. I ended up following what another family did after they also looked unsure of where to put their dishes. They eventually placed theirs in one of the bins the bussers were using to collect dirty dishes, so I did the same. I also wish I had been told that to go containers and bags were available for leftovers. I ended up figuring that out on my own. Overall, I think a few signs or simple instructions explaining where to sit, how food is delivered, where to get water, where to return dishes, and where to find to go supplies would make the experience much easier for first time customers and probably easier for the staff as well. Now for the food: it was delicious! I was genuinely impressed by the quality, freshness, and texture of everything. The food was definitely the highlight of my visit and would absolutely make me want to return. Overall, the food was excellent, and the employee who served my meal was wonderful. I think clearer instructions for first time customers and more consistent customer service would make a huge difference. Unfortunately, my initial interaction with the cashier made my first visit feel uncomfortable and left me feeling a little out of place, but the quality of the food helped redeem the experience.
