No lie, the food is delicious! My husband and I loved the Loco Moco and the Benedict. The volcano egg was beautifully cooked, and the sauces are *chef's kiss* for the Loco Moco. However, we did not have a great experience with the service. It wasn't anything big, but just a bunch of small things that ultimately culminated in a poor experience. I was served coffee in a dirty glass with a lipstick stain on it, which was no biggie. Stuff happens. But then, similar to the table next to us, we waited around an hour or so for our food. However, unlike that table (where their server continued to check in on them, apologizing, offering free drinks, etc), we were pretty much ignored until our food was delivered with a brusque "Sorry for the wait". The icing on top was our server coming over to clear the table not even 20 minutes after our food was delivered. Yes, my husband had finished -- because he wanted to get the h*ll out of dodge. But I wasn't done yet. Because we had waited so long, I had stopped feeling hungry by the time my food was delivered. I took a pause with a half full plate just to figure out if I was eating to eat (vs actually still having room/space to go), and the server just swooped in with the check and started to clear our table. I did get mildly upset at this point, pointing out that 1) the food was delivered after a long wait, 2) I wasn't done yet, and 3) it hadn't even been 20 minutes since the food was delivered. (And yes, the table next to us got to ask for their check. And no, there weren't other customers waiting -- the restaurant was half full at this point). Obviously, people are busy. My husband and I came during lunch hour on a weekend. We knew we were going to have to wait, and we did so without issues. However, seeing the vast difference in service between us and our neighbors was pretty jarring, and made for an overall unpleasant experience. Sad, because the food really is delicious. Found this gem next to antique stores and it did not disappoint. Walked in and immediately acknowledged by friendly staff. Lots of yummy food choices from omelets to Ramen and Japanese twists on breakfast classics. We ordered the omelet, Ramen and pouting fries each plate was a nice size portion and full of flavor. We love this place! The food is unique. It's a more Japanese take on Hawaiian breakfast food. The portion sizes are big but the plating is Japanese and looks cool. The Japanese bakery bread, the fruits, the potatoes, and other ingredients are fresh and executed very well. The place isn't fancy but its cute with nice touches and surrounded by other cute antique stores to go before or after. It's family-owned and run and the service was great. On top of that, they are so hospitable and fun to talk with. We took my mom there for her birthday and I'm trying to find reasons to take others there. That's how good it is. read more

This restaurant seems to be similar if not the same as Tanuki Izakaya in Elk Grove. If you look at the menu format and type of food that they serve at each location, you can see the similarities. You can even see that the owner/manager is the same on both yelp pages if you look at the owner's replies. We didn't figure that out until we got there and opened the menu. And just like with Tanuki we were unimpressed. We ordered the curry udon and miso pumpkin udon. They charged 20 dollars for the most basic bowl of curry udon with diced chicken, 2 small pieces of cubed potatoes and 5 pieces of carrot. There wasn't much udon in the bowl which was disappointing. My wife's udon bowl wasnt much better. She said the pumpkin wasn't fully cooked and she said her chicken tasted gamey. Aside from the mediocre food, we also waited a long time for our meals; probably about 25-30 minutes even though there weren't that many people in the restaurant. I noticed that the owner had family and/or friends over and served them first even though we arrived about 10 minutes before they did. They also messed up on my wife's order somehow and it was delayed for about 40 minutes from when we walked in until she got her food. Heard the chef yelling in mandarin in the kitchen before the owner came out and apologized to us and offered 20% off for the mistake. Maybe that's why the pumpkin was undercooked as it was probably rushed. Funnily enough, me and my wife also waited a really long time for our food the one and only time we went to Tanuki a few years ago. Not sure if it's related to having an understaffed kitchen at both locations. It was nice of the owner to apologize and give us a discount, but we probably won't be coming back. read more
