I love going to GB's. In the past, I have gone there with one of my favorite cousins. We would meet there for lunch. I usually would order the pulled pork sandwich and it was always tender and delicious and very good. But today I had a sandwich that was pretty awful and I was with my daughters, and I hate to complain about things when they're around because they just get upset with me . Like I'm not supposed to say something when I'm eating something that's horrible. And the sandwich was pretty horrible. It's hard to describe, but I know what I have done to make some pulled pork be just like this I had left it all day in my crockpot and it got a little dried out and a little hard from the heat and not enough moisture so that before I served it, I had to cut off several pieces that were not edible. I would liken my sandwich meat to a type of a jerky? There were one or two nice soft pieces and there was a lot of fat that was disguised by barbecue sauce on top. Mostly there were shards of hard meat. Someone at some point knew before serving my sandwich to me that what I was being served was unacceptable. Maybe those who heated this meat back up from yesterday, the manager, a server, wait staff? Someone made the decision to allow this to be served when it was basically inedible. How did it get in that condition and who decided that we aren't gonna throw this out, we're gonna serve it because it would need to be replaced and that would cost money. My first clue should've been, when I was attempted to cut my sandwich is 1/2 that I was meeting with great resistance. After lunch and hours later I am still feeling sick about eating some of it, One time I had taken a bite and found it was bread and a rather abnormal size piece of fat. I wonder if health department is aware of the things you serve. My bun was several days past it's freshness date also. I have not been able to eat anything today because I feel nauseated when I even think about food. I would love to go here because about 5 years ago my cousin passed away and every time I would go, I could think of lovely times we've had together. As a college student at the U of A for the last 4 years I have to say that this place is extremely overrated when speaking from a culinary perspective. I went to eat here a few times during my first year here as a student and ordered the chicken tenders and other smaller entrees and I wasn't really impressed, usually the service is a little on the slow side. If you are going out the experience is definitely a bit better as there is an upstairs bar and dance floor atmosphere for late nights. read more

Gentle Ben's has been around for ever and with good reason! It's a great hang out for UA students and can get really crowded and loud during the school year, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. Stopped in last night after attending a show at Centennial and was drawn upstairs by the music. We found a great table and enjoyed a couple of their brews - a porter and a stout. Both were excellent. Soon enough the place became packed with college kids and we were considering taking a hike out of there but were soon joined by four older airmen from DMAFB. It was nice to know we weren't the only NON-college aged people there and we enjoyed a drink and conversation with them. I haven't eaten at GBs in years but i don't go here for the food. A nice cold brew in a cold air conditioned establishment on a Tucson summer day is heaven and fairly deserted when school is out. Gentle Ben's a place that you go because it's convenient. Its on campus. Gentle Ben is two stories. The bottom level is more for causal seating. The second level has a bar, so it gives a bar atmosphere. The service is decent. They come to you when you need them, so no complaints. However, if you're seating in the second floor, it is harder to get good service. You basically have to go to the bar and order or just really try hard to get someone's attention. Their food is good. I've tried the spinach dip, the buffalo wings, nachos, beer battered onion rings, chips and salsa, chicken tenders, black and blue burger, asian chicken salad, and others. They give a large portion. The price is also decent for the quality and quantity. My friends and I use to come here for social club events. Gentle Ben's is a great place to come. Normally their upstairs doesn't get too full and there are a lot of room/seating for a large party. Their happy hour is great! The drinks are good. read more

Great location! Staff was really friendly and everything on the menu sounded delicious. The menu provided options for everyone in our family, ranging from GF to vegetarian/vegan options. We had the house made ranch chips as an appetizer and they were so GOOD! I cannot thank the staff at Gentle Bens for their help in making our first happy hour in two years with out students and industry friends outstanding! I worked with them to reserve an outdoor portion to ensure everyone felt safe attending and planned to have 30-40 attendees. In the end we had over 120 people attend and the team really went above an beyond to provide excellent service and keep our attendees happy. If you know Tucson at all, you know it's a total college town. Gentle Ben's is pretty much right on campus and is a great spot for food. But most importantly a great spot for beer! They're microbrews are awesome and a few of them really pack a punch so beware! At night they have great music and the upstairs bar area gets really packed. Its great for those hot Tucson nights as everyone pretty much hangs outside on the balcony. There is also a big dance floor inside which gets quite crowded. Good times. When I first came to town for work I thought this place was full of strippers. I never went that time but I thought why would they put a strip club so close to campus. I've seen much closer in other cities! Dive joint for the college kids. I mean its across the street from U of A so i wouldn't expect any less. Regardless food and service was amazing. Spinach salad dressing and veggies were good. The candied walnut had a cajan spice to them that didn't match the rest of the salad, so I'm glad I got them on the side. TVs at the bar to watch sports and a nice patio for outdoor seating. Bartender was great. Parking was found across the street for $1/hr in the evening. The Baja tacos had a very small and thin strip of fish on it that was overcooked. The fruit I received had some type of sauce on it. I was not satisfied whatsoever.
