If you are going to indulge on the bar a word to the wise.....keep it simple. As far as the food. OMG. The steaks were cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor. The sides were delicious. All in all it was a good meal.

Came here for an anniversary dinner on a Thursday night and had a great time! I wish more people were in the restaurant, when we arrived around 6:45, we were the only people! While it's maybe early for dinner, and a Thursday, only one other couple came during the time we were there. I'd hate to see this place go out of business. The service was great! Our server was very kind and friendly. I loved the salad - so fresh tasting and the dried blueberries were a fun texture for an otherwise crunchy appetizer. We had the ramen and the New York strip which were both great in flavor and well prepared. My only complaints were that the wine glass was not practical- filled to the brim and kept spilling... and that I wish the steak had a bit more char on the outside. The inside was a nicely cooked medium though.

We love George and Violets. They have made some changes in the the last year that have really benefited them. The ambiance is fantastic. Date night, dimmed room, elegant. Not stuffy though. Their taste is impeccable for decor. The front booths are a little tight for a large person, but in the back no issues. Their service is always on point. We have managed to call for a tables last minute multiple times and get sat within a reasonable window. The food!!! We were sad when they changed from a steakhouse to a fusion restaurant. But their menu has evolved into this beautiful, quality, flavor packed, and versatile options menu...that includes a couple steaks! This is our go to when we want a steak for sure! Anything you order will be tasty! The price is worthy, but it is steep. With cocktails or wine, expect $60-90/person.

George and Violets is quaint and small. The steak is cooked to perfection and the mashed potatoes were light and airy. Don't skip the Parker rolls they are house-made and incredible. Our server was so helpful and gave great recommendations.

40 day dry aged grass fed steak with spicy marrow spread and hazelnut miso butter

Food and service were excellent here. Waiter was so attentive with the water and even in bringing the dessert when I had just finished my steak. I had the 40 day dry aged grass fed ribeye with a side of hazelnut miso butter and spicy bone marrow spread. I actually loved the spicy bone marrow spread better than the hazelnut miso butter. The spiciness was very mild like Jack in the box mild. I really liked the spreadable beef fat with focaccia bread as well. Had to order more focaccia to use up the bone marrow spread and hazelnut miso butter. The bone marrow complemented the beef better. The hostess told me the beef is locally grown about 20 miles away and is grass fed and grain finished. The hostess is also the dessert maker and offered to answer any questions about the dessert if I wanted to geek out about it. The presentation of the dessert was beautiful. It consisted of blackberry sorbet, hazelnut toffee pieces which I was informed is a modified version of what the French Laundry and Bouchon uses, bavarois which is milk folded with whipped cream and set with gelatin with dehydrated hibiscus pieces and speculoos. Sorbet was topped with a white chocolate blackberry flavored flower piece with gold leaf accent. Will definitely be back.

Food was amazing and came out in a reasonable time. Service was great! Cocktail menu looked very interesting. Tried the alcohol free mojito which was delicious.

Ask the Community - George and Violets

Hi Yelp, does G&V have happy hour? Any details appreciated TIA!

So is this still a steak house or just a ramen place now? Considering for UO graduation meal. Thanks

Neither -- Google George & Violet's menu, it has quite a few choices.

The inside was pretty but it REEKED of used kitty litter the second we walked in. I have no idea why it smelled like that but that's what my entire family described it as and it got even stronger when you walked by the end of the bar. We ordered drinks and I did really like mine so that was a plus. We then ordered a couple appetizers as we had a fairly big party. The sourdough trio and the beef carpaccio were okay. We loved the scallop esquites though which were delicious. The bathroom was really weird, you go through a back door down a hallway and once you get to the all gender bathroom it's closed off by plywood doors for each individual stall which was really weird and felt cheap in a restaurant that looks nicer. Our waitress sucked (a middle aged blonde woman). She took forever to take our orders because she for some reason assumed we were just getting appetizers even though we never said that. When taking our orders my stepdad said "oh you're starting with me?" Just because I think he wasn't ready and in a rude tone she says "well you're sitting in seat number one so I'm just going by order". She was rarely at our table and spent more time talking with the bartender and who I assume are regulars who were sitting at the bar. When our food came out she said "you also ordered the teres major right?" While setting it in front of me before I said no. She then said "oh yeah, I knew that was wrong before I even said anything" and that she had put my order in wrong. She said she'd have the cooks put a rush on it but you can't really put a rush on a steak. She brought out the sides that go with my dish so I wouldn't be without food but the green beans were incredibly salty and the mashed potatoes were dry and almost cold. When my mom offered to let me have some of her steak for the time being the waitress butted in to say "she does have food coming". When my steak finally came out everyone else was already finished eating but she did bring it out with fresh sides and the mashed potatoes were much better! Granted the texture and appearance was so different from the first ones it really made me wonder just how old those first potatoes were which grossed me out a bit. My steak was delicious and I did get a side of chimichurri which was the best chimichurri I've had in a long time. My sister said the sauce for her seafood linguini was pretty bland but she otherwise enjoyed her dish. My mom also mentioned the teres major was really good. So there were some pluses but we all decided the negatives outweighed the positives. Would not recommend.

Last time we came for brunch, we noticed the eggs Benedict no longer has the amazing Parmesan-crusted potatoes. The hollandaise is still decent and the focaccia bread is great, but losing that crispy crust was a big bummer. Today's visit for our usual wings and nachos was even more frustrating. First, they no longer offer ground beef for the nachos. We were told we could substitute steak, but that literally doubles the price of the dish. We opted for chicken instead, which was a steep $7 extra for maybe two ounces of meat. When the nachos arrived, they looked like low-effort, homemade oven nachos with just melted cheddar on top. The whole thing was fused together into one giant sheet of chips; we had to break it apart and manually pile the toppings back onto the chips ourselves. It was really weird. The biggest letdown, though, was the wings. It used to be a solid order of six traditional flats and drums. Today, we paid $14 for just four pieces, and they weren't even wings--they were frenched chicken thighs. Subbing a completely different, lower-quality cut of meat without telling the customer is false advertising, and they turned out dry. Plus, the sauce has changed from a traditional Frank's-style buffalo to a harsh cayenne sauce. Between the wings and the nachos, today's total came out to $34--and $40 with a tip. Paying premium prices for dry thigh meat, overpriced add-ons, and a block of fused-together nachos makes it really hard to justify coming back. I'm not sure if North Fork got bought out or what, but I really don't see a point in returning.

The Skybar is located on the 5th floor of the building along with the Hotel lobby... uh okay. The staff are all very pleasant and accommodating. We went to the SkyBar and found it to be a smallish yet convenient place to wait for guests or visitors along with getting a drink or a bite to eat. The bar looks like it can accommodate about 30 people in the interior. There is a nice outdoor patio that can easily accommodate more when the weather is nice. The barkeeper was very attentive and observant, he took our food and drink requests at the bar and in short order, everything was presented. I had a Moscow Mule that I found to be a refreshing drink. Ginger beer, lime and vodka. An excellent combination. I also had an order of the chicken wings and fries. The fries were a normal shoestring variety, cooked well, nicely salted and came in a metal bowl. The wings I found to be outstanding! I don't usually get wings this well made unless I do it myself. I received 8 wings coated with barbecue sauce on a charcuterie board with the fries. The wings were served nicely hot. The meat was piping hot, juicy and tender. The barbecue coating was a hearty middle of the road sauce, not sweet or too smoky. It was caramelized perfectly for that sticky texture and flavor. Definitely a nice coating. Thankfully the bartender brought us a lot of napkins. The wings and fries made for a satisfying meal. The bar boasts a couple of gas fireplaces that make for a warming environment with a few semi private tables. There is a longer table for a larger group as well as several smaller tables and a few bar stools for game watching. All in all we found the bar to be a cozy semi-private environment, yet available to the guests as they come and go. All around, a nice meeting area and watering hole. We will book our family members for a stay here at the hotel. I'm looking forward to trying more of their specialty drinks.
