The waiter came back to apologize for the delay- they were just starting our meal because the kitchen 'missed our ticket'. Waited another 15-20 minutes for our dinner to arrive. The new owners have turned this into an East Shore Restuarant powerhouse. The menu is wide ranging, the place is classic and classy. It started with a 5 star Manhatten, with a Bourbon that is not often available in Upstate NY. It was followed by a fabulous Ahi appitizer, the likes of which I haven't seen north of the Fl/GA line. It ended with a very good chicken Marsala. Pasta was perfect andante, many mushrooms over a flavorful sauce. Ill be back the rest of the season. I brought a group of 11 for a work event this pas t Friday. We arrived at 5 for a 5:45 reservation and sat at the bar. As the group was ordering a second round of drinks, the owner came over to us and said we needed to move it along to our table because they "had other reservations and needed our table."' I had just spent $185 at the bar. I spent another $600 at the table and when we left at 7:00 half the dining room was empty. The bartender was lovely. The service was friendly, although fast - probably because they wanted us out. The food was good. One of our employees said the prime rib was the best he'd ever had. BUT, the owner doesn't like or is stressed by larger groups I don't think I'll be back. I'd rather take my business to a place that is more welcoming. read more

Well when this place reopened under new owners a few years ago I was looking forward to trying out the new menu. My first 3 experiences were 1 good, 2 problematic. Well first the cocktails were always good. So now here in July 2022. We both ordered Prime Rib. The signature meal here. I hade mine Oscar. While we were waiting we had two excellent Salads and stuffed mushroom appetizer.. Well two gorgeous Filet Mignons arrived. I had a slice and realized it wasn't Prime Rib. But I have to say it was excellent. Sent it back as it wasn't what we ordered. And a few minutes later our lovely prime Rib with au jus and Bernaise sauce arrived. Other than mine was a size or two larger than ordered, they were outstanding. Mushrooms on side were good and an abundant serving. Wine list varied and decent, paired well with most menu items. I had a enough left overs to make a great breakfast tomorrow. I'll chalk my two marginal meals to early and late in the season. Our server Harrison started out excellent and very informative. He seened annoyed having to swap out the meats. He was kinda sparse after that. Desert was the last odyssey. Asked if they had Key Lime Pie. He said they did. What arrived tasted like Key Lime Cheesecake. Was good. Place itself classic as its been for decades. Log cabin/ hunting lodge motif. Service still decent. The bill total was correct but some items under charged. Some over. Credits to adjust price on meats. I thought I'd be back, but when owner came over and asked how it went. I calmly explained good points and issues to help him do better. He got into a confrontation blaming me the customer. At that point it was over. 4/30/2022. First off, let me thank our server, John M., service was excellent! I stumbled across this place while driving around in the area, killing time. I took a picture of the outside, and texted it to my wife, with the caption, "wanna try it"? so we returned to Lake George the very next day, to give it a shot, And we are very glad we did. We started our meal with an app, shrimp cocktail, fresh, cooked perfect, and good sized. Next came our salad, We were a bit disappointed with it. The lettuce was bitter, and wilted, hoping for better with our next visit. Then came our entree. I ordered the Prime Rib, with fries. My wife ordered the NY Strip. Both steaks were cooked perfect, and had great flavor. They also had a local craft beer on tap, which Iwas happy to see,BNA. Lastly, the decor is great, felt like we were dining with John Candy in the movie The Great Outdoors. We love that woodsy camp feel, just great ! Overall, it was a great visit, hats off to the ENTIRE staff. We are looking forward to our next visit, to try something else on the menu. Let me first start by saying I've been in food service for YEARS as well owned an establishment and it hurts me to write a bad review.... My family and I visited George's a few weeks ago at the request of my Mother who had been there in previous years, I was happy to see the restaurant busy especially after last year with Covid. We got seated my self, mother, sister, my 14 year old nephew and my 5 year old son. The waitress was very nice, we ordered git out salads and soups and then waited over an hour for our food. When we complained the waitress was so nice, I understand it's not her fault. Then .... The manager came to our table and asked what was wrong, we explained to her that we were waiting over an hour for our food and without hesitation she threw not only the waitress but also the whole kitchen staff u see the table and would not take any responsibility for her employees. This rubbed me the wrong way. The food was AMAZING... I'll be honest one of the best steaks I've ever had! After my family left and I paid our bill I approached the manager and let her know that throwing her Employees under the bus was a total POS move and I'm surprised anyone would ever work there, again without hesitation she went on to talk about my mother and how she wouldn't be happy no matter what as well as going at the rest of my family. Classy stuff. After doing some research I've found out that there is multiple complaints about management about this restaurant and as amazing as the food I had was, I cannot continue or suggest anyone support a business that treats thier employees and customers like this. For someone used to living in cities around the world dining hours of 4:30-8:30PM are just plain weird! But after a long rain soaked hike and a hot shower, 6:30PM was just about right for dinner. Staff is so kind. Drink at the bar ('Up-State' Manhattan with local bourbon) was just the right touch. Throw-back salad bar updated with mesclun greens. Huge (medium menu portion) of prime rib with just the right amount of fat. Cooked super rare!!. The broccoli side tasted buttery and garlicky and none was left behind. The decor is a cross between hunting lodge rustic and 1970's Manhattan singles bar (Maxwell's Plum anyone??) But fun and kind and DELICIOUS. GO GO GO!! read more

Dining in the Adirondacks is best described as, "Plentiful." George's Restaurant is NO exception to this rule. Friends recommended George's if we found ourselves in or passing through the Lake George area. Our stop was of the "passing through" variety; after an efficient shopping trip to the Outlets. Efficient, because it only held me hostage for 2-3 agonizing hours with bag upon bag being added to this pack mule. I digress, but for good reason. A thirst had built in me (the Pack Mule) and Georges is well known for quenching many a thirst, as well as, over satisfying even more appetites. I plunged right into a mighty draft pint of Paradox Red Ale from Schroon Lake! George's entrees offer an "All you can stuff" salad bar and two fresh soups of the day. Best option if you are to follow the Road to Plentiful. I witnessed steaks, porter house and prime rib being consumed in alarming volumes. Feeling inspired, I ordered the "baby" back rack of BBQ ribs and my duo wife & daughter the broiled sea food platter to share, which is usually taken down single handedly. We proceeded to the soup and enjoyed 3 bowls of homemade vegetable beef. Normally a delicious meal in itself; the beef must have been cuts not ordered from the prior day. Next onto the salad bar. Essentially the basics of salad barology, 2 lettuce bowls, all of your prepared vegetable toppings, beets, pickles, various salads (bean, potato, soleslaw, macaroni, etc), dressings, croutons, sesame, & diced bacon. Nice, but remember, don't get carried away because there's still PLENTY to come. The entree's. Oh my. Having built an Outlet thirst, I ordered a Paradox Dark Ale (very good) to accompany my 14 inch rack of gooey ribs dangling over the platter & baked potato! Fabulous, fork eaten, fall of the bone good. The seafood platter, haddock, lobster tail, shrimp, clams & mussels and a side of broccoli. The ladies faired well and completed their task. First time dining here. Decor and ambiance are 5. Classic Lake George log cabin restaurant. Kids loved it. Food was 3.5. My filet and lobster tails were cooked perfectly but other entrees over cooked. Sides and salads were weak. Ordered the broccoli and was given four small florets. Salad was wilted. Son enjoyed the chicken parmigiana but portion was on the smaller side. They also have kids menu which my other son got a burger and fries. Service was a 3. Our reservation was 6:30, didn't get our entrees until 8:15. Numerous parties were served before us. Also, had to ask for things like water numerous times. Took 15 minutes to get oil & vinegar for a salad. Value was a 3. For the portions and quality, this placed is overpriced. We are regulars at the Caldwell House and the Log Jam, and both are superior. That being said, we still enjoyed ourselves and would consider again next year on our annual ADK vacation. read more

Miserable bartender. She was not happy to be there and she was obviously overwhelmed. I felt bad for ordering drinks. She told a couple that walked in that she wasn't happy to see them because she was hoping that it would slow down so she could get a little bit of a break. Another gentleman asked if the bartender had a beer list and she just started listing all of the beers in stock quickly with an attitude. The gentleman waited 10 minutes just to ask about beers and he wasn't appreciated. I went with the jumbo scallops and was unpleasantly surprised to get a plate of scallops over risotto with balsamic drizzled all over it. I don't get it. This place was packed but didn't live up to the hype at all. Overpriced for the experience. George's didn't earn my money and I won't be going back. read more

My wife and I used to make it a point to go to George's at least once a summer and were really bummed when it closed. So we were excited to try the new version and unfortunately we did not have a good experience. My wife ordered her prime rib medium rare and it came out well done and tasteless. I ordered the filet au poivre and the sauce did not taste good and the steak was very chewy and didn't seem very fresh generally. They no longer offer the fantastic salad bar the old restaurant used to have which took away one of the things that made the restaurant somewhat unique. Also, they were out of a lot of things on the menu. Generally, they didn't really seem like they had it fully together (and they should for the prices they're charging). For example, they have a kids menu which is full of coloring exercises, but they don't have any crayons for the kids to use. One high note, the waiter we had was great. I know everyone is suffering from being short staffed at the moment and he managed to keep up a very positive (and often very apologetic) attitude. read more

Restaurant had about 12 -15 open tables and we were asked to wait certainly was because we didn't look up to par lol sadly we are quite to par ... stuffed mushrooms very sub par gummy filling pale undercooked mushrooms , clams casino consisted of bacon grease and clam and a full cup of of bernaise sauce for whatever reason .... I've never had a clam casino with no breading , very gross .......ordered prime rib was cooked proper and tender ... salmon ordered burnt to a crisp sent back , sent out a second piece that was dryer than the host and owner that greeted us . Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience there tonight. The restaurant was very crowded and service was exceptionally poor. When we spoke to the manager, he was not understanding at all, giving us poor excuses and was extremely rude, walking away when he did not like what I was saying. Then spoke to two other rude and sarcatic people who could care less what we had to say and only urged us to leave. Two waitresses, that said they were only there for 2 days, had the nerve to tell us to leave as well. Really!! If you are understaffed, don't accept so many patrons if you cannot serve them properly. Needless to say we will never go back, and urge others to be aware. The food was mediocre at best. I work too hard for my money to spend it in a restaurant that offers no customer service. The worst place ever!!! The waitress Megan was amazing and so kind. But the food was the worst. The steak was not cook well done like my grandma requested. My grandfather steak was horrible and his lobster was raw. Mine was ok but not the greatest. We asked to talk to the manager. She was so rude. She didn't even listen. She did not care at all. We have been long time patrons of George's on Lake George for years. This is the 3rd owner since it was sold. To be honest, after the other recent one star reviews we put off going here. That was an opportunity lost. We decided to try the Early-Bird on a whim. And frankly we were stunned. The service was impeccable, the food was fantastic and the atmosphere was what you would hope for in a lake setting. The waiter was both witty and attentive. Frankly it was bizarre in a way. It was like we were being personally attended. Each course came out as if on cue. Everything was hot and prepared well. My family was in the restaurant business for 30 years. That is not easy to do. As to the food. My wife keeps a spreadsheet of French Onion soups. Out of the 30 restaurants on it, this was in the top 3. The clam chowder was thick and very tasty. The Chicken Parmesan had a crispy crust, a nice sauce with a little shaved Parmesan on top. My wife had the Eggplant Rolatini, excellent and enough for three. Hot rolls and a very good Bloody Mary finished it off. Maybe the other reviewers went on a crowded night. Not easy opening a restaurant with a new staff. Things can fall apart quickly. My sister and I were locked in traffic and found this place by mistake, when we turned onto 9L. It looked great, but I didn't realize how pricey it was. We started with cocktails, THOSE were amazing! Our server Valentina was just adorable. The French Onion soup, I would only come back for that amazing bowl of soup. Both me and my sister were impressed with that dish. Main dishes though... I ordered a Caesar Salad with shrimp... that's not what I got at first. There was a mess up and I was presented with chicken, I really wanted the shrimp so I politely said that's not what I ordered. No problem, when my salad returns, there are only three shrimp on my salad.... So I was charged the original $13 and then $15 on top of that for THREE shrimp that were a lil burnt at the edges. I was very disappointed with the shrimp quality and price for that quality. I can only recommend this place for the soup, cocktails, and our waitress. This spot reopened recently under new ownership. Since the reopening I've tried 4 times to make a reservation and once did a walk in early in the evening. I have yet to eat here , when I walked in for the early bird the hostess was sitting in a booth with two other people just working taking up the booths for a paying customer she was very rude and told me to eat at the bar I have called numerous times to get a reservation explaining that I am a local which keeps this restaurant and business throughout the rest of the season and I was told they are fully booked at one point someone even called me back to tell me I could eat at the bar yet my friends came up from Long Island they were a group of maybe eight people and they got in with no problem yet locals can't eat at this restaurant I would have to say I would have to say that going forward I will skip this place and tell all my friends the locals to skip this place as well the hostess does not know how to manage the restaurant whatsoever she sitting talking while people are trying to patronize the establishment I have been in the restaurant business for three years and I have never seen a hostess act this way or be so rude to the customers if she continues this people will not come back. read more

Went there for a birthday occasion. We had been to George's several times years ago and it was phenomenal! So when we saw they had closed it was really upsetting! You can imagine our delight when we found out of their reopening however with new owners. Greeting was a bit frosty. We sat in a booth by the bar which worked great especially during this time of social distancing. Here is where it starts going south! Waitress came and introduced herself. She then took our drink orders and said she'd be back with our drinks. Literally took 20 minutes to get our drinks and that was only after making eye contact with her one of the few times she looked over at us! After she served our drinks she took our orders and told us she was bringing us some bread which I embraced because we were starving! After a long while...no bread and our glasses were empty neatly standing At attention on the side of our table waiting to be noticed... I watched our waitress as she mingled with guest two tables away while they were playing some sort of card game and had invited her to play. Still no bread. After a long while once again our drinks were still empty, I had to go to the bar and ask the bartender for two more drinks. I was told our waitress would be right with us. We had no bread and frankly the thrill was gone. Our soup and salad arrived as the waitress apologized and informed us they had been delivered to the wrong table and had to be sent back! Our dinner finally arrived. I had the prime rib which George's was always famous for. They were placed in front of us and our waitress disappeared in a flash. I waited for my horseradish and finally got it after my meal was halfway through! Our waitress hurrilly checked on us when our dinner was almost over. I can go on but I'm probably boring you by this point. Our dinner was good though I wasn't too thrilled with the prime rib. It wasn't the prime rib I had in times before.bill came out to 130 something and we go were gone. So basically food was ok...my prime rib mediocre and service was terrible. Waitress just seemed inexperienced as to how to treat guest In what used to be a fine scale dining experience. I don't think I'll be returning as presentation and service should be just as important as the quality of the food. Went here with friends while on vacation and arrived a few minutes after opening. We basically filled up on the salad bar and probably should of just had the salad bar. Although my prime rib was fantastic and the potato soup was superb, the haddock was entirely flavorless with a mound of dry breadcrumbs. Also a huge miss was the shrimp scampi! Servers were extremely friendly and helpful AND the hostess. I would give them a five star The food however, wasn't worth the price they ask for. It's extremely over priced for bland food. Eh food. Nothing spectacular. If you've had a good steak and mash potatoes, you can tell this food isnt special. Just a resturant over priced there food for eh food in a casual setting. I would recommend going else where. If your around the area looking for a upstate steakhouse.... This could be the best your getting from lake George.... It reminds me of the outback but tasteless and overpriced. No signature season or taste to it. Just extremely bland and blah. I don't like how we had to walk up and get our salad/soup. Went for dinner last night. Very happy!!! Get the prime rib!! We were there for the early bird special and 10 oz was more than enough. My husband recommends asking for the horseradish sauce. Was super happy with it. The kids mac and cheese was kraft, but almost a whole box of it!!! And you get the salad bar and soup bar. Best kids meal in a while. Kids ribs were also great.
