This was a disappointment. We went here for breakfast on my dads birthday. The food was fine. Nothing special. Nothing to write home about. We each ordered the Counter breakfast which was $8.50. My brother asked for bacon, I asked for avocado, and my dad asked for sausage. We expected an extra charge for these items. We should have checked the amount. The server asked whether we wanted sourdough, wheat or a biscuit. He did not mention that the biscuit had an extra charge. With the middling coffee being 3$ apiece, the total came to 53$. This is for a very basic three person breakfast which we should have just made at home. read more

This is the closest brunch place to me! A cute place in the corner on Rainier street where there are other restaurants and little shops. This is the go-to brunch place for my friends and I throughout high school and to my adult years now. It's a great vibe with great people. Painfully delicious. I ate myself into oblivion. Short wait time, amazing customer service and UH-making food. Coffee as perfectly brewed and everything made with love. Our server was full of personality, incredibly friendly and informative. She gave suggestions and was willing to accommodate any special requests, and read my mind when deciding between lemon ricotta pancakes or French toast (I got both!). Despite a tiny little wait, the food came out fast and was packed full of flavor and delicious. Would definitely recommend the French toast and CFS as everyone else has suggested. I don't often order hamburgers at a restaurant, but I do here because they make them so well. The "All-Natural Burger" is one of the best burgers out there. You can even get avocado on it. Yum yum yum! My hubby and I went to Geraldine's for maybe... the third or fourth time yesterday and it was just as good as I remembered. I got the pancakes and they were so incredibly light, fluffy, and yummy! I do believe that I caught myself saying, "these are the best pancakes I have ever had." I also got a side of fruit and it wasn't one of those lame sides of fruit with tons of cantelope, a few orange slices, and some grapes. There were berries, melons, orange, and other good stuff. My husband (who is from the South) got the biscuits and gravy and he likened them to the delicious biscuits and gravy that he grew up on. I had a late weekend brunch and got in right away which made me happy. The service was prompt and friendly, and my corned beef hash was done really well. I liked that the hash used butternut squash and it gave the corned beef a nice flavor. My husband had Geraldine's Casserole, the highlight of which was the fresh salsa on top. The rest was pretty uneventful because it was mostly cheesy eggs with not as much filling to balance it out. Geraldine's was comfortable, served a good meal and the only drawback for me was that my fruit all tasted like onions. So I have dined-in here about four times (when I was lucky enough to get a table after waiting 45 minutes or more). The experience during peak brunch times is harried, as to be expected, but the service is usually decent enough and the food is mostly good, sometimes "meh." If you get nothing else, the French toast is their signature and has always been spot-on for me. However, most of my disenchantment and why I felt compelled to write this review comes from my experiences ordering take-out from here. I thought it was just an off-day the first time I ordered to pick up, but after the second and third times I realized it was a pattern: I'll walk in and am immediately greeted by one of the older men with a huge smile and welcoming gestures. I smile back, and when I say I am here to pick up, the man's smile is completely wiped off his face and it seemed he just couldn't be bothered with me anymore. He'll bring my order out and ring me up, but not give me any eye contact or any further acknowledgement for the rest of the transaction. Last I checked, the amount I pay for take-out is the same as when I dine in? So why the polarizing treatment? Also, I am always the type of person who tips as much for take-out as I would if I were dining in and I know many other Seattleites have the conscience do the same. Granted, each time I came to pick up I encountered the same man so perhaps it is just him. But if he is the primary person to greet people I recommend considering that the take-out customers are supporting his establishment just as much as the dine-ins and thus deserve the same amount of cordial treatment. Also - each time I ordered take-out was during dinner - a considerably more relaxed pace than brunch. So it is unexplained why I was treated like an untouchable in a caste system just because I am getting stuff to go. read more

A bit of a wait to be seated because it's a good brunch joint so be ready for that. My sister got the French toast with blueberries they were awesome! Great food and excellent service at a reasonable price! Right off the bat, I was impressed with the balance, achieved by the entire staff, of warmth and efficiency. First was the host, Gary (turns out he's the owner), who took our name and gave us clear and accurate expectations of the wait time (about 20 minutes at noon on a Sunday), and followed up by accommodating my seating preferences without a fuss (I prefer a table to a booth). Next was the wait staff, all of whom were friendly, attentive, and patient. Our server (who's name I did not get) was playful with my 4year old son, and helped my wife navigate the extensive menu and narrow her choices. She also had no problem with my substitutions (low carb), and was back to check in about the food, coffee, and water, at all the right times. As for the kitchen, all I can say is that the food came very quickly, considering how busy they were, it was all cooked perfectly, and the flavors were fresh, clean, and delicious. The last standout was the young man bussing and cleaning. I have never seen anyone do their work so quickly and completely, while still moving calmly through the fairly large and very busy dining room. As a cherry on top, he had a natural smile at all times, and was clearly collaborating with the rest of the staff to get the most important items taken care of in turn. These folks could teach companies of any size quite a bit about culture, teamwork, and customer experience. My whole family is looking forward to our next visit, and my wife and I are excited to sample more of what they have to offer. We'll be back soon! read more

The friends we were with decided Geraldine's it was. They like this place lots ( they are who we went with the first time) it's super kid tolerant which is nice. It looked like the staff are friendly & work well together. It was nice to see the owner hands on involved in a few of the task of the restaurant. He was basically an acting host at the door. On a Sunday the way was about 25-30 minutes. The service was chill & they accommodated our large party of 9 well. Food was timely. Again, in my opinion taste wise it doesn't hit the spot. It's VERY BASIC FOR THE PRICE . I'm comparing to the griddle or Dinahs, Roscoes, Killer Shrimo Cafe or Wii Jammin Cafe in Los Angeles ( home) & places like Rias Bluebird in ATL or even Cracker Barrel . Real homestyle, savory & hearty breakfasts placed. Comparable in price but a taste you can't beat. I find Washington's food selection is bleehhhh in general. It matches the sky . Again the food isn't BAD by any means but it is on the pricey end for what I would not consider comparable to the flavor you get. Again it is still cute & eclectic & has very nice accent like the vintage 100 year old wall. The decor is awesome and the people are friendly & chill with kids. Everyone else in my party enjoyed the food. But then again they are Washington natives ! Lol IJS . Whatever you order, you must get the French toast with seasonal fruit! It's crunchy! That's right crunchy French toast! I order a side for the table to share every time. Oh boy, what a disappointing experience. I have visited this restaurant several times for breakfast/brunch and I have not had anything but a great experience. Not so much today. I ordered the Mexicano omelet thing and uuggh! I asked the waitress if this was a true attempt at authenticity or should I move on to something less challenging. She was confident. What I got was unseasoned black beans (as a native Californian, I know there is no such thing as unseasoned Mexican anything) could be canned beans, and an ugly omelet with canned chiles. I immediately told the waitress not to worry, I'll pay for this dish, but I'll order a medium rare Burger. The waitress snapped at me with "Well, this isn't a Mexican restaurant." Ah, a potential battle, I thought. I told the Lady, "All the more reason then, not to offer Mexican fare on the menu." What did I get as payback? Medium Well, Burger. I ate it anyway because I'm a diabetic and past my time to eat. To their credit, they did not charge me for the fake Mexican dish. I'll have to really think about a return. This is one of those places I had been meaning to try.. but just hadn't gotten around to it. Until today. We went there for a late breakfast and the restaurant was super busy.... We signed in on the little sheet and were seated within a few minutes. I had the Emerald Scramble and it was fantastic...Sausage, eggs, hash browns, spinach, pepper jack, YUM... and I love how the meals come with lil slices of fruit on the plates. The coffee was very strong but had excellent flavor. I was buzzing throughout breakfast.. who am I kidding?? I am still buzzing. The strawberry jam was delicious.. it's not from the lil packets.. it's just chillin' in a plastic jar on the table. I was skeptical because I didn't know how sanitary the whole thing was. I've heard people talk about Geraldine's as the best place to get breakfast in Columbia City. I think it's probably one of the best breakfast places in Seattle, period. Food is not just good, but consistently good. Menu is mostly diner classics, but enough variety that you won't get bored, and everything I've had has been executed perfectly. This place will always look packed on a weekend with people loitering outside, but they burn through tables fast and the wait always seems to be less than 20 minutes unless you have a big group. Weekday breakfast is, for me, by far the best time to check them out, to avoid the weekend crowd.
