I'm so frustrated. I LOVE this place and food. Today I had to ordered to go, but it was supposed to be a very special breakfast but for the order of Biscuits and Gravy wasn't so good. There was no enough gravy for the biscuits, and I thought about ordering a side of it in case this happened and it came a total of 3/4 cup of gravy. I stumbled across Gerladines this summer and BOY am I glad I did. It is now my GO TO brunch spot. I live no where near it and I make sure to find my way there whenever I get a chance. My first visit was their version of a Reuben, DANG it was tasty. Their house made sauce is perfection and the fresh cabbage refreshing. All their dressings are made there and you definitely want the ranch with the perfectly cooked fries. I think their biscuits are pretty much perfection and the freezer jam a great compliment, so I always upgrade to a biscuit *taste the biscuit, taste the goodness*. Speaking of perfection, the hashbrowns! Crispy, brown, a little bit of soft in the middle....all the textures and tastes you need from diner hasbrowns. The chicken fried steak is awesome, while its quite a meal, it doesn't make me feel overly heavy somehow. It just tasted like an egg and cheese dish with Pico for the most part. Good but not as good as it should've been IMO. I feel like it needed more kick. Seems like Geraldines is most known for their French toast... I can't eat that many carbs for brunch so sadly I don't think I'll get to experience the full glory that is Geraldines. Service: there were so many people working! Lots of servers, cooks etc which made for very attentive and prompt service which was much appreciated! Atmosphere: this restaurant is live and vibey, right in the heart of Columbia city. My party of 2 waited for about 15-20 min for a seat at the counter. A table would've probably taken twice as long. Ummmm okay I LOVE this place. Big BIG portions for a good price - the kind that I used to see in Texas but never here within the city of Seattle. I've come twice, and the food has been stellar both times. I have tried the breakfast sandwich, biscuits and gravy, chili, tater tots, sweet potato fries, and the French toast. I highly recommend the truffle tots - each tot was crispier that one could imagine with a slight hint of truffle. Seriously, tots are hard to get wrong but to get them to be excellent is very hard to do and Geraldine's somehow does it beyond excellent. The other bomb ass thing you must try here is the French toast. I'm not a huge French toast/waffles/pancakes person but decided to order it one day to share with my hubs and O M F G. Again- the texture of the French toast was spot on. Soooo amazingly crispy on the outside and soft and yummy on the inside. Like another decadent paradox, not sure how they managed to achieve this but has me thinking about coming back for more and more. Service both times has been stellar as well. This place doesn't feel like a lot of other places do, which is Seattle Freeze-y; nope, quite the opposite. We were in town for a football game and decided to yelp for yummy food experiences throughout our stay! This one was a disappointment for sure. Our wait wasn't long for a Thursday morning, however, once we got seated our server asked for our drink order. I said, "coffee please". My husband interjected and said "two coffee's - wait, I'll take a sip of yours babe, let me get an orange juice instead". I replied "sounds good" - we sometimes share food or drinks ... the server looked at us and said "we don't share coffee". I said umm, what do you mean? She replied "we don't share coffee" - I said well, we would like one coffee and one orange juice. She had a face. She went to the counter/register and started talking s*** to the other servers and they were making faces the whole time. The rest of our group, noticed it too. I'm sorry but you can't tell me when I can or cannot share my drink. I'm paying for it and that's all that should matter. I didn't even finish one cup so if refills are your concern - that's wasn't the case. She was extremely rude and I can tell I was being talked about. The Geraldine's Casserole is my favorite thing I have gotten as a main entree here as the eggs are cooked perfectly and it has a lot of flavor with the sausage, cheese and pico. I would recommend sticking to the breakfast menu as that is what has made this place a popular spot and it tastes better than the lunch options. Good news is that they always serve their breakfast menu so that is easy to do! On weekends the wait time can get pretty crazy in the mornings so if possible try to go on a weekday or later during their service on a weekend. The service is great with extremely friendly hosts and servers. I got the sweet corn and havarti scramble which was very tasty but quite sweet (FYI if that's not what you're into). The hash browns are good and they have a good selection of salsas. Good sourdough accompaniment as well. My friend has the Emerald City scramble and I liked hers better, but the sweet corn is more unique for sure. We also split a lemon ricotta pancake which had a great taste. After seeing lines out the door consistently (especially on the weekends), we decided to stop in today to see what it's about. This place does not disappoint! First of all, everything we ordered was so fresh. The French toast was thick, sweet, and crispy. Best I've ever had. The casserole was also amazing, not your average greasy breakfast fare. Been going to Geraldine's for years. It's good and local. I can order for pick up and staff is friendly enough. What I do not like is the inability to reach the restaurant. I've placed many orders and occasionally they will call me about my order and if I miss the call I absolutely cannot get ahold of anyone when I call back. Also, if there is an issue with my order that I pick up then I cannot reach anyone. Most recently I tried to call to see what time the last orders are taken, no one answered per usual so I went in and ordered in person a usual, the Cobb salad. I have modifications like I always do. I showed the person my typed modification (just a cheese substitution) and I verbally stated it and confirmed. I paid cash and then left with my two Cobb salads. I got home and the salads were incorrect! Nope, not the salads I wanted and paid for. Like usual, I tried calling Geraldine's 3 days in a row, leaving voicemail messages twice, and still no response. It's a shame that I have to leave this review, (which might otherwise be 5 star because mistakes get made and that doesn't necessarily outweigh the collective experience), just to get a response from management or the owner. read more

I don't quite get the hype: run of the mill service, bland food, canned peaches on top of the French toast. The food was overall uninspired and uninspiring. The portions are quite small, particularly given the price point. The casserole was devoid of salt, mushy, with a tiny amount of sausage and hash browns . My main gripe was the $15 french toast which is 3 small pieces of deep fried toast with 4 canned peach slices on top. Like, can't you throw a few fresh strawberries or blueberries on top? It's the PNW and they're in season. The tartness of some fresh fruit would cut the cloying sweetness and greasiness as well. Not a repeater for us sadly.
