I love Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Beef Noodle Soup), but where I live in the SGV I haven't found a place that's yet to make it taste authentic. My mom told me about this place and they're also known for their Dry Noodles which also was pretty good! We got here on a Tuesday around noon. It was busy, so make sure to sign your name in on their wait list outside the restaurant. The restaurant itself fits a good amount of people. Service was great, the waiters were super attentive and friendly. Ambiance was a little noisy and I had to shoo away a couple of flies... other than that food tasted great. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue. It comes not spicy at all and there is a side of chili on the table you can use to add to make it spicier. I'd say start off with a little bit of hot sauce before you add a spoonful like I did. It was spicy.. kinda wish I didn't add too much. I love the veggies that came with it. A lot of restaurants don't give you the extras like the mint or banana leaves, but this place made the Bun Bo Hue taste pretty authentic. 5/5! I used to go to my favorite Taiwanese restaurant called "tasty garden" located here, unfortunately it closed down during the Covid lockdown, thanks a lot GN. Imagine my shock when I found out it morphed into Ghien Mi Go after a long time of being vacant. The review was better when they had Bun bo hue but it had since been deleted out of the menu, I was told to go to Ghien Bun Bo a few blocks down from this branch. They had remodeled and the decoration and paintings were really breathtaking. I love the cyclo at the entrance w stuffed animals. I looked at the menu and was in disbelief, how could this huge restaurant only have 3 items, wonton soup, Hainan chicken $19.50 and shaken beef. They will regret deleting the Bun Bo Hue, I had my heart set on this soup but I was tired and did not want to go to the sister restaurant, that was a mistake as the wonton soup was nothing special. In my experience with wonton soup only the Chinese and specifically the Cantonese cuisine, know how to make an excellent wonton soup. Last year I went to Hong Kong to eat wonton soup every day!!! The soup was very generous w shrimp, pork, dry shrimp and crunchy bacon bits. The broth however was bland, I tried to fix it at home but I wish I knew the secret ingredients the Chinese used, the pork was tasteless, in Saigon, they put Char siu not boiled pork. I ordered pork bones , it was only $5 for such a generous portion. I loved the cartilage and the meat just fell off the bone. I wish them good luck but I'm afraid w so few choices, how can a family dine in here, my kids used to like different food, 1 is a vegan, people have different taste buds, perhaps that was the reason the restaurant was empty and it was 6:30PM prime time for dinner. I've just been to this place yesterday, the food is so tasty, especially the Hu tiu thap cam, it's full of toppings: seafood, porks, fried wonton,..., the broth is flavorful, the portion is reasonable to the price. I've never had dry hu tieu before, so I decided to try it with shrimp, pork, and quail egg. The portion was pretty large and quickly filled me up. Also, they give a generous amount of meat. The initial plan for breakfast was dim sum at a neighboring complex. Due to a long line of patrons waiting to eat and an estimated 45 mins- an hour wait time, I had to come up with a plan b, STAT!! Shout out to my sister in law for mentioning Ghien Mi Go. She heard amazing things about the restaurant and told us to give them a try if we had time. Lucky for us, Ghien Mi Go was a few minutes away from our location so what better time to try than the present! You won't be able to miss the restaurant due to the traditional food cart sitting out front by the entrance. This makes for a cute photo op and brings up many memories of Vietnam's street food scene for those who have been lucky enough to experience all of that greatness. We entered the restaurant and were immediately greeted. They confirmed the number of people dining and they were prompt in providing us a high chair. Menus and a plate of beansprouts accompanied by GMG's special house sauce was provided. The menu is straight forward and isn't too big where you get lost trying to figure out what to eat. Breakfast: -Mi/ Hu Tieu Thap Cam [combination mixed noodles-served dry] x2 -Mi Bo Vien [egg noodles soup w/ beef balls] Food came out promptly and was flavored so well it really didn't need any condiments. Noodles were cooked perfectly with the right amount of chew and a nice soft texture. 5/5 stars thanks to the great tasting food and polite customer service. Ghien mi go literally translates to "addicted to knocking noodles". For those that don't know the history of mi go (knocking noodles), it is usually served from a cart that is pushed around the neighborhood by an uncle/auntie/grandma/grandpa. This person would announce their arrival to the neighborhood by knocking a wooden spoon onto a bowl to make the iconic knocking sound that would echo through the neighborhood. People would then come out of their house or work and grab a hot delicious bowl of noodles. The restaurant pays tribute to the history of mi go with a noodle cart in front entrance. When you come to this restaurant, be ready to order quickly (the waiter came to take our order after only maybe a 10 minutes wait). The food comes out super fast as well, but also extremely delicious. I got the dry mi go with small egg noodles. The noodles were chewy and the seasoning was not too salty. What was surprising and I really love is they fry the dried shrimp so it adds an extra crunch with every bite. The waiters here speak both English and Vietnamese.
