PIZZA! they have some fat slices-- i like that! the prices are decent and the guy that works there has been there forever! he has always been really nice and friendly! they only take cash so make sure that you have some on hand. nothing like having to go to the ATM and paying those extra fees. they also have a good salad! :] mmm. my only complaint is that they open at like 10am. i know that pizza is technically lunch time food-- but if youre a student and have an 8am morning class-- nothing is a better pick me up than a gigantic slice of pizza. can i get an amen? read more

So immediately after I wrote my first review a couple of days ago, I started craving their pizza like mad. I usually order their pepperoni, cause I'm a pepperoni man, but after reading some other reviews, I opted to try their sausage and mushroom this time. Deciding with an overzealous stomach, I ordered a large for pickup. Now somehow, I ate the whole thing by myself in one sitting. Eight giant slices. I've been eating here for years and it's great. It's more of a pizza shack with half a dozen outdoor tables. The pizza is delicious and makes you wonder what the hell is Domino's trying to pass off as pizza. The meatball sandwich is all meat...mmm, it's a challenge to finish. The pasta is good too, it's sauce is on the thinner side with loads of flavor and topped with baked mozzarella cheese and it comes with garlic cheese bread. The mushroom & sausage pizza is good, served quickly and hot. I came here on Saturdays in between class so there was never a line. I love that they offer a salad with a tangy vinaigrette dressing that complements the meal. The pizza bottom isn't greasy so I don't need the utensils I normally need. Yes, it's cash only but you have to understand that the meal is already inexpensive and a credit or ATM charge would be undue hardship on a small business, not to mention the monthly service fees for a card processor. The only places that can afford to stay in business with credit card charges on a $2 meal is McDonald's. People wonder why some places raise their prices for food and it's because of things like credit cards. If you carry cash, you help a small business keep it's costs down which translates to lower food costs for you. People are so short-sighted and lazy. Even a 10 year-old lemonade stand owner can tell you this. The only responsibility a restaurant has to you is to serve decent food; it isn't their job to make it easier for you to pay for it. We have been going here since we were teenagers; for over 20 years, Ben is awesome. My only complaint is they stopped delivering years back, but when they did it was amazing. He has gotten pricier over the years but we still go atleast once a week. There are so many amazing things on the menu besides pizza, try the spagetti, or a cheese bread, or even a torpedo. A little tip Monday thru Friday avoid it for lunch if you can, unless you dont mind all the college kids/crowd ,we only come for dinner or lunch on Saturday. Ben is closed every Sunday, and he only takes cash but he put an ATM there now. When you order one of the slice specials your pizza will be reheated but its still great. read more

I was craving some pepperoni 'za so I figured I'd try Bonello's out since it's a hop, skip and a jump away from my place. I pulled up and parked in their lot. I was the only customer there on a thursday evening. I walked up to see three guys crammed into the small shack waiting for me to order. I ordered two slices and a coke. Thanks to other Yelpers, I knew to bring cash with me and although some reviews state that there is an ATM on premises, I did nor see one, just an empty case where one used to be. Anyhow, on to the 'za, I took a bite and thought it was just okay. I'm not from NY but I expect a foldable greasy slice when I think NY 'za. What I got was a crispy crunchy slice of pie. While it was tasty, it by no means was top 10 contender. Also, for the $7.XX I paid for two slices and a coke I felt slightly jipped considering I can get a whole pie of better tasting 'za for less at Tumby's. read more

Ok, so moving on...I LOVE BONELLO's PIZZA! The slices are big and really do remind me of New York style. I'm a fan of pepperoni, mushroom, and pineapple with extra cheese! A slice and a drink runs you less than $4...I don't even know if they sell anything else because I've never tried anything other than the pie! Located across the street from El Camino so there's always people there but they move fairly fast. I've never eaten there, I usually pick up and go. Looks like there is only seating outside. Not the nicest looking place, kind of a hole in the wall but I've only experienced the friendliest service every time I've gone. OK. We ordered pizza from here because we were starving at work. Not the best neighborhood, and not the most charming location and appearance from the outside, but the pizza was yummy! Cheese was rich (not waxy or oily) and the sauce was really good. I didn't really like the salad dressing on the house salad (too much vinegar). There goes a star. Owner is super nice and accommodating and even let us scarf down a few slices while we were waiting at the window. ***Another pizza place that doesn't deliver ( I won't take away another star because the owner was fabulous). If you work in the area and like me, don't eat chain store pizza, stop here and grab one. You will be pleasantly surprised. This is a very small place with outdoor seating only. The service is decent, but not great, and the pizza is okay. I went with two friends after a workout. We were all very hungry so we would have eaten anything. We all got pepperoni slices and a small salad. The salad was good, but very simple. The pizza was a bit dry and the crust a bit too crunchy. When I think of New York pizza I think of greasy and chewy pizza you can fold or roll up any way you want to. This was not like that at all. read more

Bonellos is the bomb! It's New York style pizza so the slices are pretty big and easy to fold! Lol. It is very conveniently located down the street from el Camino college, which makes it a very popular go to place at lunch time. I always get a mushroom slice! I don't eat meat so I'm very pleased to know they always have something I can eat! The salad here is also really good! It has a vinagrette dressing and has what I think is mozzarella cheese on top! Soo soo good! I definitely recommend this spot to any who likes pizza! Only down side is they are cash only:( although they do have an ATM machine for one to withdraw cash, I would rather come prepared ! read more

I'm honestly not sure what all the rave reviews are about. Perhaps living in Berkeley has significantly raised my expectations for a what a good pie should be like. It's hard to describe why, but the pizza here was just so-so. Perhaps it was the cheap cheese or the lackluster sauce? . What I do know for sure is that the spaghetti and meatballs dish was downright sad. The meatballs were tough, dry, tasteless, and chopped up. Sauce was chunky, bland, and watery. It tasted canned: Not your $10 a jar Rao's sauce, but Ragu canned. To make things worse, it was doused in half-melted, plasticky cheese. Yeah the only downer might be the fact that it's a cash only business, but you do not need much cash on hand to enjoy a great slice of pizza. I've been coming to this great pizza joint since my days at El Camino College and its yet to disappoint. It's located on Crenshaw (between Redondo and Manhattan Beach Blvd.) across from the campus. The owner is very nice and friendly, has owned this place for quite some time and still works the kitchen making great pies. I usually go for the #3 special (2 slices, small salad and a small drink) for about $7.75, a lot of great food for a low price. Their pepperoni with sausage or their veggie pizzas are also very good along with the sausage and pepper sub. I hope this place never changes, it's always a great local spot for some pizza! read more

After trying several other "NY-style" thin crust establishments in LA (Brooklyn's, Joe's, Charlie's, Village, Amecie's, etc), which are all good, I can say with confidence that Bonello's (Crenshaw location) comes out on top every time. Further research, ahem, leads me to the conclusion that Bonello's has better crust than Manhattan Pizzeria nowadays. So, that's the good news. Downside is that you can only get pepperoni or mushroom by the slice, which is getting old. If you order a whole pie, make sure to crisp up the crust in the oven. read more

My husband used to be a pizza delivery boy when he lived in New Jersey and ate regularly on South Street in Philly. He is very hard to please. He expects cheap prices and excellent pies at least 17". The cheese has to be good, the crust has to be sourdough, good marinara and they're better have a cheesy antipasto. This place fits all our needs. A large pie with an antipasto runs us $23. The guy running the counter is clearly from New York. It's not often you go to a restaurant anymore that the person helping you is actually from the place the food represents.
