I love this Gino's for the staff and the bar. I'm always greeted with a friendly "hello" and usually just sit and eat at the bar. They remember my face and make conversation, which is always nice in a city this big. The bar has a nice selection of craft beers and a relatively small but good selection of micro-brews on tap. I'm always keen on trying something new when I stop in. They also have wine on tap, which is kind of cool. The pizza is always great, no surprise there. Appetizers too. But a few of the other dishes are hit or miss. Don't get me wrong, nothing is ever bad. I'm so disappointed! I have ordered Giordanos for years but saw Gino's East was doing free delivery through DoorDash. I ordered a large thin crust Margherita pizza. It looked delicious but was absolutely horrific! It was watery, soggy, undercooked, tasteless, and floppy! As you can see from my photos the pizza is shiny from all the liquid and you can see my finger prints in the soggy uncooked dough! Not to mention that the moment I picked the pizza up it flopped over and all of the toppings slid right off!!! I spent almost $30 on this pizza including the delivery tip. I feel robbed!!!! What a rip off. I want my money back. I'm still hungry. Never again! Next time I won't try to save a measly $5 by getting free delivery but rubbish food. read more

If there's any pizza that can rival Giordano's, it's Gino's East! The pizzas are similar, yet different! I love the style of the restaurant, and I love the flavor of the pizza. That's where you can tell the difference! It's really hard to compare the two, but I really love the crust of this pizza! I highly recommend Gino's East because of their service, not just their pizza! The wait time wasn't really that long, but they were nice enough to let me charge my phone in the back of the house, which really helped me because I really needed to make a couple more calls. Of all the things in the world to be pretentious about , we're picking deep dish pizza? Really? I have to say, I find this brand new Gino's location to be a bit perplexing. This place is clearly going for a trendy, faux-haute cuisine, what, with its standard looking fried mozzarella sticks stacked like a log cabin as if this was an episode of Chopped or something. Not to mention the nicely jacked up prices for the new atmosphere. It's all a little off-putting to be honest, but it's still a Gino's so the food is still really good. They really put a lot of effort into that pizza and it shows (or tastes... or something). The appetizers are also pretty tasty, and while I didn't partake at the time, the beer list is pretty extensive, which is always a plus. The service was.. well, off.. The biggest issue was that we ordered a 14 inch deep dish and were given a 14 inch thin. When the thin crust arrived there was actually a moment where the waitress insisted to us that we didn't order actually deep dish and kind of implied we should be happy with what we got. So after kind of begrudgingly conceding and going to the manager to figure out what to do we were all left thinking it'd be another 45 minutes before our pizza was ready. Instead a new one came out in 3, one the waitress fully admitted was one someone else had ordered. So what happens to those people then? I was glad to have a pizza, but not exactly pleased that we were feasting to someone else's detriment because our waitress screwed up. So yeah, there's something about downtown area Gino's that are just a problem for me. I've never had a good experience in one downtown and never had a bad experience in an outlying location. Combine the poor service with the high prices and a sense of a pizzeria trying to be something it's not, and I'll probably go elsewhere for my pizza when I'm in greater Loop. read more

I have heard of Gino's ever since I moved here...and we finally visited. The first thing I noticed was the writing on the wall...and everything else. Love it! The atmosphere is so fun and chill. No need to dress up to come here! We ordered 2 pizzas - the Chicago Fire deep dish and the BBQ Chicken thin crust. The thin crust was definitely my favorite. I would order that every day of my life. The 5 of us downed both pizzas. The Chicago Fire was not that spicy at all. That was disappointing. Honestly there wasn't anything that stood out to me that was very different from other Chicago Pizza places (besides the atmosphere). It was very good and I would come back, but I can't pinpoint anything about the pizza itself that was special. I would recommend it for anyone who is looking for some good BBQ pizza! read more

I should have trusted my instinct when I saw the mediocre ratings of this Gino's East and gone elsewhere. My husband and I were staying in a hotel nearby and wanted to get some decent pizza delivered. My experience with other Gino's East locations has been pretty good, so I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. But alas, I was not. This was definitely a letdown. All we ordered was one pizza. I asked for the pizza to be brought up to our room and included a hefty tip ahead of time to indicate my appreciation. Instead I received a phone call from some random Uber driver telling me to come down to the street outside the hotel to get my pizza. If I had know Uber was going to deliver my pizza, I would have never ordered from here. Part of why I was ordering DELIVERY was so I could actually get my food DELIVERED. Maybe this is commonplace in this area, but it caught me off-guard and unprepared. I had seen other reviews in the area that said their deliveries were brought up to their hotel rooms with no problem, so I didn't think it would be an issue. Not to mention the extra tip money I wasted on coming out for my own pizza! On top of all this, the pizza arrived cold and the crust seemed stale. Like they had cooked it quite a while ago and decided hours later, "Oh, let's deliver this to someone." There is definitely better pizza available in this area. Don't be fooled by the name if you're a fan of Gino's East. Perhaps eating in at their restaurant is better, but why risk it when the city has so many other GOOD restaurants to choose from? read more

What a great atmosphere! The service was fantastic. We ordered a deep dish pizza and a sandwich and the server promptly informed us that the pizza normally takes roughly 45-60 minutes to cook so we weren't disappointed by a long wait. We ordered mozzarella sticks and hummus, both of which every bite was consumed. The waiter even made Shirley Temple's for two of my kids, even though it wasn't on the menu. When the food came out in less than an hour, it was DELICIOUS. This was our first time to a Gino's East, but definitely not our first deep dish pizza. It was just as good or better than the other places we've had in town. First the wait was 45 and i had no problem with that we just stepped into the bar to have a beer which took 10 min to get 3 drinks. after about 30 min 4 tables had opened up and one right next to us. we stood there for 15 and some one finally called our group and sat us at the empty table we were all standing at anyway. What surprised me was to see how busy they were and the manager was sitting at the bar on her computer and not helping on the floor or even behind the bar, and it was very obvious they needed help. They were drowning and she was offering no help, I have managed many places and made sure when help was needed i was there for my employees, th host did more walking around and talking to people instead of sitting us. i am very glad the food was good or this review would have been worse. I have been to other locations during high traffic times and have never been disappointed. I will from now on take my out of town guests to another location that is managed better. we spent a total of 2 1/2 hours in there from first beer to finishing our meal. I never crave deep dish pizza. Sometimes I wonder, do people from Chicago really like it or do they just bring out-of-towners? A good friend of mine was visiting Chicago for the first time and wanted to try it, so I brought her to Gino's. It's my favorite of all the big name places and this location was conveniently located across the street from our hotel. We decided to keep it simple and ordered a pie with sausage and cheese. All it took was one bite for me to remember why I like Gino's the best out of all the other options (Lou Malnati's, Giordano's, etc). They have the best crust and sauce. I enjoyed it so much, I ate two slices and would have considered coming back the next day. read more

Our last pizza at the south loop location was only half the normal thickness (so bizarre) and we had to track down our server to order and to get our check. Has to be the worst pizza ever. Dry, poor tasting, very untextured dough, generic sauce out of a can, low quality toppings. They can't possibly have repeat customers. The waiter actually admitted that the personal pizzas sit around all day pre made. You will find better quality at a discount dollar food store in the frozen section. Was looking forward to some good pizza in Chicago. Very, very disappointing. To validate: four of us went to lunch together and all ordered pizza. Three deep dish and one thin crust cheese. Unfortunately all this location has is the famous name but none of the famous quality I remembered.. Ordered appetizers and a sausage deep dish. The appetizers were overpriced for what we received 30 minutes after ordering. The caprese crostini was nothing special as it was toasted French bread with cheese,tomato and balsamic glaze. The charred cauliflower was luke warm when received while the plate the bowl came out on was toasty warm. Too bad the heat didn't transfer to the oddly flavored cauliflower. Also ordered their minestrone soup. It was actually pretty good. Although I think someone confused the recipe and made it half French onion soup and half minestrone. The pizza was a poor, flavorless corn meal crust with pasty tomato sauce. Not up to what you get at Giordano's or Malnati's. Either the meat or the sauce was way too salty. The cheese was average at best. If I had to guess I would have said it was cheese made from skim milk. read more

So we're driving thru the area and I was determined to eat legit Chicago style deep dish pizza... After the disappointment of the ridiculous wait time of the first place we were going to, and then walking blocks to find a different pizza spot, I was happy to stumble a pond this place. After awkwardly being told to stand and wait 10 mins, even tho there where plenty of visible empty tables, we were seated to a very sweet waitress who took our whole order and informed us of the exp. 40 min wait for deep dish. That was ok tho cause that what we came for. In the meantime tho we made sure we had apps: calamari, way over cooked which was a shame cause the seasoning was very good, and buffalo wings that were really good. They have a great beer selection and their Little Sumpin' Sumpin' hit the spot! In less than 40 mins, the pizza came. And here's where I'm torn... Cause Im a jersey girl living less than 15 mins from the city all my life... I just can't... It was "different". We got the BBQ brisket one, the brisket was absolutely delicious, except there could have been more. The funny thing is... The more I ate the deep dish, the more I liked it... Messy, but good... The location is so cozy and warm with the retro Edison lights and dark wood furnishings. We got a supreme deep dish which takes 45 min to cook, but in the meantime started off with the mozzarella sticks and Caesar salad. The beer selection was quite nice and it was an excellent stop to warm our frozen toes and fingers. I liked the fact that this place has less of that big chain feel such as Lou malnettis and Giordano's and enjoyed my meal there. The pizza was excellent and the star of the meal with a rich deep hearty sauce that was excellent. I ordered a thin crust to go for a friend which took significantly less time and he loved it. We ordered from Gino's East last night since my friends live in the area. They said it would be 45 mins so 2 of my girlfriends and I headed down a bit early to grab a drink at the bar. We met Gio - who is quite possibly the most fabulous bartender you'll ever encounter - who was able to recreate a drink my friend could only describe as "chocolatey....orangey....boozy....smoothie goodness." He knew exactly what it was and made them for us...including whip cream and a cherry. Beautiful drink, but still have NO idea what the name is. We got out pizzas and mozz sticks - the diavolo was delicious, and the mozz sticks were decent cheesy goodness. We did order a deep dish with multiple vegetables on it plus sausage, but all we got was sausage. A big thick layer of sausage and none of our paid for vegetables to accompany said wall of sausage in the pizza. I brought the pizza back down and spoke with Frank the manager who agreed to re-make the whole pizza really quick or at least saute the veggies for the current pizza. We had already eaten part of the pizza and the mozz sticks so I didn't think more food was the solution here. Frank graciously offered to reimburse us the cost of the pizza, which he did. He even said that if we come in to dine that we should ask for him, and he'll "do something nice for us." Very good service So while they messed up the order - hence the loss of 1 star - Frank the manager was exceedingly kind, Gio the bartender was ridiculously awesome, and everyone else working there was shockingly chipper for having to work on a Friday night. I took a group of 24 students to this GIno's East and we had an excellent experience. We had 2 waitstaff helping us, and they were very attentive to the kids the entire evening. The food was quick (we had pre-ordered our pizza) and delicious. The waitstaff served each child individually and even came back to to cut their huge slices in half so the kids could have more. They complimented our kids afterward on how great they were, but I'd like to compliment them on how great THEY were. Fantastic food. Awesome service. 5 stars! read more

Went there last night and the Deep Dish was off the chain. It had that old rico beanie's type feel. Be sure to get the pattie sausage. The crust was buttery and gooey on the inside. The BBQ wings had a good flavor, and the ranch dressing was delicious. They most definitely do something to the sauce. Good selection of beer also. I will go back nice environment! read more
